Finally got a chance to try Mala Town's dry pot! The interior was clean and easy to navigate, with an option to choose your toppings as you make your way to the register. Upon checkout, they measure based on weight and allow you to pick your prep of choice (tom yun, tomato broth, spicy beef, or dry pot). Delicious!!! And so glad it is vegetarian friendly!

I came back to Mala Town to try the spicy mix with peanut sauce, but I wasn't really into it. I like spicy food, but I definitely prefer the beef bone broth base. The flavor and spice just didn't hit for me this time. As always, the staff are super friendly and the place is always clean, and I'd still love to try some of their other bases next time I visit.

Sichuan was more than I could handle

Great concept and delish ramen! I love to create my own meals so this is perfect for me. I was able to go heavy on the things I like making the perfect bowl. I went with Sichuan the first time and I regretted it. It was FIRE and I wasn't strong enough to handle it. I ended up getting medium spice the next time and it was perfect. I drive an hour to eat here and I never regret it.

The concept for this restaurant is unique and awesome. You walk in and grab a bowl, put in whatever ingredients you want in your soup then they will weigh it, you select the broth and you pay .. I had the sichuan base and it was soooo flavorful and spicy. I did add some extra soy sauce, garlic and oyster sauce. It was phenomenal. I'd go back for sure.

I go to this place a lot since they opened! Super good malatang and I'm so glad there is finally a place in Edison. This place is a pay your weight (at the moment is 15.99$ a pound) where you pick everything up from a buffet style area and then they cook it in the soup you like. I'm obSESSED with the Szechuan soup base. It's an extremely spicy soup base but it just hits differently!!! I tried the spicy stock soup base but it doesn't hit the right spots like the Szechuan one does. The selection is super big as welll! They have all the goodies that most places don't have like hotpot noodles, quail eggs, haidai miao (sometimes :(( ), and more! The service is always good and the place is cute. There is a self serve bar with sauces and drinks. The tea definitely helps a lot with spice, so if you don't want your nose running the whole time I recommend drinking copious amounts of the tea. I parking though is horrible. There is very little parking which I think is sad since on Saturdays and Fridays or just at night in general this place get pretty packed.

I love hot pot and couldn't wait to try this restaurant! When I arrived I parked in the lot. The place was packed when I walked in. Helen helped me, and I had a tad wait. When a seat was available, I got my bowl and put in the items I wanted: Scallops Shrimp Spinach Corn Egg ramen chicken Rose blossom lemonade I weighed the items, and the broth I added was beef broth medium spice. They cooked it in the back. It came out in about 15 minutes. I tried the food and it was very good but super spicy. The drink took a while to come out, which was the only real issue. I also had the tirimisu, and that was frozen, but when it thawed out a bit, it was good! All in all I had a good experience!

Love this HotPot and the whole concept. The place is clean and the hot pot self service ingredients section has quite a wide variety of selections. We have been here a few times and have gotten the different combination of sauces and have always enjoyed the bold flavors. Staff is great and I wish they open up a location in Morris county.

Great place to try the hot pot. You choose the ingredients, weigh them to pay for the meal. They prepare it in a hot pot soup or dry hot pot ( no soup). The place is packed with patrons but the turnover is very fast, so it is easy to find a table. Advise is choose your ingredients wisely. Pick them based on quality. You pay for total weight.

Love this place so much!! It's a bit off the beaten path, past the H Mart complex. Drove past it a few times and finally decided to stop in. I am so glad we did because this place is really really good. You pick whatever ingredients you want, and there are so many options, protein, seafood, veggies, tofu, noodles, etc! Then you can pick the broth or do the dry pot for the ingredients to be cooked in. Take a seat and they will bring you the food in less than 5 minutes (seriously, how do they make it so fast!!??) I personally love the dry pot and the chicken broth. Also, the free iced tea is absolutely delicious, and perfect to offset the spices. My new favorite place and can't wait to come back soon!

Upon walking in, it reminds me of a cute small little family owned business! We did not know what to do, so the person at the register walked us out and gave us a walk through of what to do! There are many different options for base, whether you want a soup base or a dry pot. I opted for the dry pot because it's peanut flavored and you can adjust spice level. You have options from all different veggies to all different cuts of meats and noodles When you're hungry you end up getting heavy handed, and for both pots we spent $60 Each pound of food is about $16! So, come hungry -- but be careful! They also have a self service sauce bar that is covered with sliding doors (super hygienic and safe imo) Would definitely come back!!

They have comfortable seating - having been to the JC location , the food here isn't as fresh and the soup base wasn't as flavorful. The mala was spicy chili water and too extreme, like I ve had mala but at least it's flavorful and the tom yum was ok but soup wasn't super hot

    Mariam -.

My friends really enjoyed their signature beef broth. I wouldn't recommend the spicy brother it just felt like super watery chili oil. It was cool to make your own soup with all the different offerings. Would def recommend to others who want a late-ish night spot and craving some soup

Went to have dinner here with our Catholic Nun Friend from the Sisters of Christian Charity North American Province. They have a unique way of choosing and picking the veggies, meat, seafood and other items by having all your items on a plastic bowl. They weigh in yours and tell the cashier the kind of soup you want for your hot pot. I ordered Seafood and Veggies Hot Pot on a Suki Yaki soup. It was served on a metal bowl, It's delicious. Serving Staff are friendly. Nicely decorated and well lighted hot pot spot. I should have given them 5 stars, but their bathrooms have no paper towel. I already informed the front counter guy about it, expecting that they'll take action, but after a couple of hrs, went to use the bathroom and sadly, still no paper towel.

The seafood is extremely fresh, the broths are rich and flavorful, and the selection of small dishes is huge. There are tons of options for sides, appetizers, and even BBQ items before the meal. The dessert selection is also impressive. One thing I hope they can improve is the ice jelly (冰粉). The current red version tastes a bit like Jell-O, which feels a little off compared to authentic Chongqing ice jelly -- would love to see a more traditional texture and flavor in the future. My personal must-haves here are the lobster, crayfish, beef tripe, and pork aorta (黄喉) -- always fresh, always delicious. Overall, amazing quality, super fresh seafood, and great variety. There is such a large selection of seafood to choose from, for the price of $63.99 per person, it is not bad especially considering how much seafood and meat costs. Ordering is easy as each table has their own tablet to place orders but my only gripe was that staff need to enter a code before you can submit to the kitchen. Drinks are self service and you can get as many as you like, from sodas, water, soy milk, green tea. There is also a sauce bar that is kept very clean. Decor is amazing as staff informed me that the paintings on the walls were hand painted by an artist from China. For every 2 people, you get an option of a lobster or another type of seafood. Seafood options range from mussels to class and even razor clams. Plenty of meat and veggie options as well. Although this is supposed to be a hotpot and bbq restaurant, hotpot is the only thing available as the restaurant does not have the proper ventilation installed for the bbq grills, although the grills are right next to the hotpot. That's unfortunate as I was looking forward to grilling some of the seafood. For dessert, they had durian which I tried for the first time. It was super creamy and sweet! I've been missing out this whole time! Overall, our entire experience was great and I would definitely return.

I remember this hot pot place from a long time ago when it was called Little Sheep. It was supposedly regrouped and rebranded as Happy Lamb in 2017. It is a bit old-fashioned in that instead of an individual hot pot for each seat, it offers one stove per table and up to two different broths for the pot. Also, aside from the proteins which you need to order through the wait staff, we get to grab the rest of the side ingredients ourselves, unlike at more modern hot pot places which must be explicitly ordered. In this way, I can take just one piece of calamari and one slice of winter melon, grab more if I like it without troubling anyone, just like at a regular AYCE buffet. Another plus is that it's finally possible to track your own items!!! The thinly sliced meats are always nice. The mala beef was really spicy, even after swishing it in the broth a few times. The giant prawns were the star of the pot--so sweet and tasty--until I realized none were deveined, at which point I stopped eating them. The beverages (e.g. plum) and dessert soups (coconut sago and white wood ear), while sounded tempting, were all disappointing. They were poorly rendered and over-diluted. Service was on point. Ambiance was so so. Price was fair. 3.5 out of 5.

Large square hot pots split into two soups if you wanted with a single clear broth in the center circle in case you needed to cook something not as spicy. A few different broth choices; some at an extra cost (like the pickled mustard + intestine). Meats, seafood, some fried dishes, veggies and noodles all available. Sauces much more limited than what I'm used to elsewhere, and the soy sauce is just labeled as a "special sauce". Big tank of sesame oil, though, that seems to be used a lot by the folks who frequent this particular style of hotpot, so it makes sense. Special dishes like the green pepper-covered beef are great for those who like spice. Meatballs and house made shrimp balls were ok. The noodle I asked how long it'd take to cook, and they basically told me to test like I would with spaghetti- take a piece, break it open and see if it's fully cooked. No sense of time or anything extra in the way of service. Overall too spicy and oily for me, but the lamb was good quality and the ice jelly dessert was an interesting mix of clear jelly, sour plum-like juice and some dessert haw flakes and spices.
