Food and service was amazing! My family loves this place! We come here all the time. It's always a hit!

I've been to their Westheimer location a few years ago and it wasn't anything special for me to return, especially since it's out of the way for me. This was my first time at this specific location and it is relatively closer, plus it's conveniently in Bellaire where I can go to other establishments and groceries in the area. Since they had their 20th anniversary promotion and it being on a weekend, I had anticipated a wait time before arriving. The wait wasn't too bad, we were seated in 35 minutes. This location is bigger than the Westheimer location and have more selection. Our table got the Thai Tomyum broth and it was flavorful. It's been a while since I've been to Happy Lamb, I was pleasantly surprised to see fountain drinks being offered for free. My first time seeing this at an AYCE. Their hot food selection was decent, I particularly liked their chicken. I usually don't think too highly of the hot foods at hot pot places, but decided to give it a try since we were ran out of meat and no one came to check in on us. This leads me to the issue we had. We were seated right in front of the podium where the host stands and where a long line is formed. So there were people standing in front of our table the entire time. This makes it awkward while eating and when we have to get up to grab food. The AC was on full blast so it was cold. Even while eating with the whole pot boiling, we were still cold. All of the waiters were staffed inside, where the rest of the tables were. So it was the host seating us and getting our order. He was busy with checking in the line of people so we don't blame him for not being able to check in on our table. But perhaps management can consider to not have tables in the front and have it where the rest of tables are OR have some waiters staffed to handle the the tables outside. After realizing no one was coming to refill our meat, we had to flag someone down. But even despite the awkward seating arrangement and slow service, this location still left a better impression on me than their Westheimer location. read more

It's been a while since I last visited Happy Lamb, but their 20th anniversary promotion was too good to pass up. We arrived around noon, and the restaurant was packed because of the deal. My mom and I waited about 30 to 45 minutes, but I was impressed with how well the staff handled the crowd, constantly bringing out meat orders and restocking the buffet. The Classic AYCE tier has fewer options than other hot pot restaurants, but the meats are good quality and portions are generous. The Hand Sliced Beef Short Plate was my favorite. Beyond the meats, the fried chicken from the hot bar is surprisingly good, especially when it's fresh. There is now a $4 broth charge, which I think is reasonable. We ordered the Best of Both Worlds with Original Marrow Broth and Mushroom Marrow Broth. I preferred the clean sweetness of the original, while the mushroom broth was still enjoyable. I've also tried the Spicy Marrow Broth before, but found it far too oily for my taste. Overall, Happy Lamb is still a solid hot pot option, but I wouldn't choose it over some of the other places in the area, such as Shabu En. The limited selection is its biggest disadvantage, but the quality of the meat and generous portions are definitely positives. The anniversary promotion was a great deal, and it was nice to see the restaurant still drawing such a strong crowd. read more

When I first came to this location I was not impressed compared to the Westheimer location, but after visiting again, I realized maybe it was an off night initially. They have good, quick service and actually offer more options than the Westheimer location. It seems to be a larger place so you don't have to wait as long either. We love doing the half spicy half non spicy soup to share and all the cuts of meat are great: rib eye, lamb, pork belly- plus they have more seafood options at this location as well. I also love that you can make your own sauce for dipping. We will definitely go again! read more

a solid value AYCE hot pot place for the price they charge. i went during the 20th anniversary when they had AYCE hot pot for $18.98. while it was busy, we were seated within 30 minutes. they have a built your own sauce, vegetable and hot food station. i didn't enjoy their broth as much as other places, thought it had too strong of a mushroom taste. all in all the service and atmosphere was nice and it's a solid place to come for AYCE hot pot. read more

Been coming to Happy Lamb for years.. The hot pot scene in Houston has definitely gotten crowded last few yrs. (Our friends were pushing for Liuyishou or ShabuEn, but due to long wait times, we went with the classic.) Service was solid overall, we had a private room since our group was bigger, and the waiters kept coming by to refresh plates and top off broths (appreciate that). Love that you can mix and match two broths. The spicy ones are still pretty good (rich, flavorful) Sauce bar is fine (I did like the sample sauce combos they had posted), but the overall veggies/seafood/sides selection isn't quite as deep compared to some of the other spots around town. Same goes for the "premium" pricing, we told our waiter we were ordering from the premium section only (because the table can only choose 1 section), but meats from all over the menu kept showing up. Hard to tell what was what after a while. Quality overall was pretty good and consistent. Can't knock that. But the price point is a bit high at $50+ after tax and tip (including one beer), it lands right around what I'd pay at Shabu En, which I'd probably rank higher these days. Happy Lamb is a Houston hot pot staple for a reason. I've had good visits here over the years (both Westheimer and here) and it's still a reliable go-to. Wowow. Hands down my favorite hotpot place because of their spicy soup base. No other hotpot place that I have tried has quite the same spice level and beefy but savory broth like theirs. Their lunch deal is such a steal and I always find myself coming back. This location also has better lamb than most other places I have been to! Their hand sliced beef is pretty good too. Everything other than the meat and the soup is self-serve including drinks and sauce at no extra cost! Their lemon juice is so refreshing and a nice palette cleanser too. This place is AYCE with 2 tier types for different meats, and all the veggies/seafood/water is self-serve. The interior of this location is stunning and can seat large parties. I really liked how they have 2 pots for a table of 6. However, the broth here disappointed me--after just 30 minutes the chicken broth and spicy broth just looked and tasted like plain pork bone broth. The tomato broth was not like Haidilao Chinese style and more like a Campbell's flavor. The tom yum broth was the only broth that tasted good and kept some flavor by the end of the meal. The enoki mushrooms also didn't get refilled after 9 when I went. I do love the bouncy round crab stick type that they have here, and the meat quality was overall quite good with nice plating. There are now a plethora of hot pot ayce options around town, but Happy Lamb Hot Pot will always be the original for me. The only downside for me is they don't give tables two pots of soup unless you have five or more people. Four adults sharing one large pot just doesn't make sense to me. For soups, you can choose between 3-4 options or do a half and half pot. I always go with the classic and spicy options. Beef, pork, and chicken meats are ordered and brought to your tabel by the server. Veggies, seafood, noodles, eggs, meatballs, tofu, etc. are available at the bar and self served. We're talking fish fillets, clams, oysters, shrimp, tofu, fresh noodles, instant noodles, quail eggs, fish balls, lamb dumplings, chicken eggs, imitation crab meat, shrimp paste, and so much more. For the prepared foods, they have fried chicken, stir fried noodles, ox tail, and cakes. Their fried chicken is delicious, except they some times take a while to bring out batches. In those cases, check with your server. I have been to many ayce hot pots but always end up coming back here. read more

Happy Lamb continues to be a solid hot pot option for me. This is the 4th time I've visited over the course of 3 years and I always leave on the verge of a food coma. The adult AYCE package costs $24.95 for dinner which is the cheapest I've seen in Houston. They offer a $19.95 lunch special from 11am-3pm, but keep in mind that weekends and holidays are automatically considered dinner time. I always split the broth 50/50 between spicy bone marrow and tomato. It's worth noting that the spicy broth is not as spicy as it looks. It's littered with the floating skins of chili peppers, but this hardly translates into the intensity of typical Sichuan numbing spice. Still tasty regardless. As for the meats, I like all of their lamb cuts the best but the garlic beef is a great alternative as well. Areas for improvement: - Since drinks are self-serve, waiters check up at your table less often. At my recent visit, the waiter still took our empty plates frequently and refilled our tomato broth without asking, but we had to flag her down once to refill the spicy broth. - The tongs at the tofu/noodle station do not have designated holders so they all hang low at the front (see photo). This can't be very sanitary since anyone's pants or legs can accidentally come into contact with the tongs. I suppose you boil off any contamination in the hot pot anyway but still, not a very good look. - Restrooms could use a more frequent touch-up. Floors may be slippery near the sink. Despite the pitfalls, I enjoy coming here for both the value and taste. read more

Customer service was really great and friendly, everyone served us and greeted us super great, that I give them 5 stars. The smell was really overwhelming in there, it was a very pungent lamb smell (ikr who would have thought with the restaurant being called happy lamb?). It was really strong to the point where I had trouble keeping an appetite. I'm not sure if the lamb is butchered right in the restaurant or if they just get huge orders of it. The buffet selection looked like it had the food sitting out for a hot minute. We did come in on a Sunday around 6 pm, so it wasn't that busy when we got in. It perhaps were sitting out from the lunch rush. I thought the broth itself was just okay, I thought for the mix and match you could choose your own flavors so we picked Thai and another one, but they ended up giving us the standard ones. It was a bit too salty and too much pepper corn. Overall, I just didn't really eat much of the food here, it just wasn't appetizing to me. We had a wonderful experience at Happy Lamb. The manager LJ was super attentive and informative, as this was our 1st experience at a Hot Pot place. He guided us patiently through the process and helped us order all the right things. The food we ordered (we ordered a bit of everything) was very fresh and tasty. Food is as delicious as always (though when you cook it yourself does it really count?) But the service was questionable. We had a semi large group with a toddler so we had a lot of baby stuff. They put us at a small table where we were extremely squished together. I wouldn't have left a review at that point. But some of our friends were going to join us and so we got to move to a larger table. (Which I really thought we should have been in at the first place but a party size is a party size I guess) They ended up not coming because of unfortunate circumstances. The waiter, once he found out, said a nasty comment to us "so you all just waisted my table when I could have fit more people?" And was generally rude to us after that. read more

If you like lamb, ignore the low average rating. The food was great! However, this is not a place for someone who comes to hot pot for meats other than lamb. The meat options are limited, and I personally didn't care for the non-lamb options after trying them. The self-serve area is kept relatively clean and the flavor of the broths (we got the original and spicy version) were great. The fried chicken and chinese fried buns they have out are so good! The fried chicken could use more seasoning, but the cook on them is very nice (crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside). Unfortunately, they ran out of lamb bones so I didn't get to try them (you request them through your server), but I will be back during lunch hours to give them a try! read more

I asked 2 waitress for egg noodle tray is empty. They are ignored after 23 mins I asked again finally they said 5 more mins. Then we always tips 15% on our bills... Tonight they decided yo auto charged us 18%. I asked them why are you auto charge 18% tonight. She said you have 4 Adult one kid that's 5 people. You are not allow to auto charge tips with party less than 6 people. Also I been coming here I always tips 15% no matter what why 18% tonight she said that's the Law. I ask so asked her I'm being kind I'm tipping every time I'm here 15%. I had a very disappointing experience at Happy Lamb. The food quality was poor, and the management was unknowledgeable and unhelpful. Before ordering, I specifically asked whether the broth contained peppercorn because I have an intolerance. I was told no, but once the broth arrived, it clearly contained peppercorn. After realizing this, I stopped eating. Despite explaining the situation, management still insisted on charging me for food that I did not eat. This shows a lack of accountability, poor communication, and disregard for customer safety and satisfaction. I expected much better transparency and customer service. Came here for dinner and it wasn't crowded. I like it that the tables and chairs are spaced out so each table has its "personal space". Service was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful. I had the Yuan Yang guo (best of both worlds) pot. The original marrow broth was ok. I was hoping for a deeper flavor. The spicy marrow broth was good. The spice level was perfect. There was a good spread of raw and cooked food. Though the raw food ingredients were fresh especially the meat, the food items were kinda common. The meat tasted good without any sauces, just like what the restaurant advertised. The cooked food were decent despite being "instant". They changed this place quite a lot over the past few years and it's still as good but the service style is different now. They offer all you can eat for $25-30, which is pretty good deal for hotpot. You can choose between the regular or premium meats which has a price differential of about $5. We went with the regular which you can get all types including lamb, beef, pork and chicken. You go to the buffet and pick whatever you want in terms of sides. You can't go wrong with Hot Pot especially on a cold/rainy day, when you're sick or hungover. My friend and I decided to try this spot & glad that we did because we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The decor is nice with a lot of space & the service was pretty attentive as well. I usually only get veggies & seafood when I get hot pot because most of the time their meats aren't that good in quality. Here are some pros and cons of our experience. Pros: * We ordered two different broths (Original marrow broth & spicy marrow broth. Both were extremely flavorful. * Soda/Tea/Water came with the meal. * They have Beer/Sake/Wine for purchase. * They have like a snack area filled with fried chicken, egg rolls, fried buns, sesame balls etc. The fried chicken was crispy and full of flavor. I think this is a good idea especially if you bring your kids & they don't want to eat hot pot. * You can build your own sauce in case your broth isn't that flavorful or use it as a dipping sauce. I loved their peanut sauce, it was creamy & nutty. * Fair amount of meat selections. * The pork dumplings were one of my favorites, I'm not sure if it was made in house but it tasted fresh. * There's free ice cream once you're done with your meal. * Their sweet tea was the bomb. Cons/Improvements: * They need more veggie & seafood options. It'll be a game changer if they had snow crabs. * There is somewhat a decent amount to choose from, but definitely not as much as Shabu Zone. * More varieties of sauces/seasoning. * We ordered Lamb, marinated garlic beef & chicken filet. I do not recommend getting the beef because it was chewy & had an off putting texture. * More broth selections. * While the spicy marrow broth was full of flavor, I tasted mostly cumin. I do understand cumin is potent but they added too much of it. Let's just say when I got home I was burping up the smell of cumin for at least 7 hours & my sweater smelt like it as well lol. If you want the Premium AYCE lunch it cost 23.95 & Dinner is 28.95 (this includes all the meats from the classic). Finally, if you want the Supreme AYCE it's 28.95 for lunch & 31.95 for dinner. The food is basically the same but you can now grab your own food, hot foods are included, and the beverage is included in the all you can eat price. You have to get meat from the server but you can get everything else yourself. The broth is delicious as always. The selection of items is good and I had a good time here. The only thing I would note is that the table is small and our burner didn't heat evenly. However, our waiter gave us an expanded table on the side to place our dishes. Honestly, you really just need one round before you get full but to really get your moneys worth, you got to go for round two! The parking lot makes this place look drab and unkept, but once you step inside, you'll find that it's actually clean and modern. Service is not so great but isn't too bad either. They missed a bunch of items and the kids aren't as profession behind the counter, but to make up, they did check on us and later bring the missing items. I recommend this place! Had dinner on a Saturday night. Made reservation for a party over 10, we had a slightly privet room. The room was nice, but on one side it was a long bench so when the people in the middle wanted to get out for buffet or RR, everyone on the bench had to get up to let them out. Not a giant issue, but worth noting. The Good: nice ambiance, very large selection of buffet items. (The fried chicken, dumplings, Kobe Beef, shrimp, mussels) Not a bad price for all you can eat hot pot. The OK: the first time I was a bit overwhelmed and tried a bit of everything. Now I have a better game plan on what items to focus on. The broth is not bad, but not the best thing ever. the spicy broth was not spicy at all. The Bad: When the broth was refilled "they do it often", some of the times it was with just water, so by the end of the meal the flavor of the broth was gone. Table service seemed non existent at times. Dirty plates tended to pile up on our table and were not picked up often. Just felt the service was lacking in general. Tips: Avoid the dried noodles, they are a waist of stomach space, pollute the pot and absorb very little flavor. Get lots of sauces for your table, you will need them to dip things into. The Kobe is the best meat I tasted, if you go that direction dont waist you stomach on anything else. several times a party member requested meat and none was ever brought. All in all not a bad meal if you are looking for a hot pot. I would like to think some of the issues that lowered my grade were based on it being my first time and being part of a large party. Overall, it's has pros and cons. The waiter, Hu, I believe is very nice and friendly. He made our experience great. The meats are limited when compared to other places but they have a variety and for the price the meats match. They were out of two items by the time we went at 7:30 so that was a bummer. The meats were decent quality. No issues there. I like that they had two lamb options. The vegetable options are limited compared to other places, but fresh. They do have a lot of seafood options. Desserts are limited but again compared to more expensive places, the price matches what you get. So I see this as a more affordable hot pot experience. The spicy and the Tom Yum broths are very good. A big plus. The fountain drinks tasted weird. We got two different sodas and it seems like the water is the issue. We did not drink our drinks. My go to place for buffet hotpot. The meat quality is better than shabu zone but lesser condiments to put on your meat. The sour plum juice is a nice touch to help you digest all the greasy meat. My son really likes their fried chicken and sesame balls. Lots of options. The one less star is because they can keep the place cleaner.
