I've been to other Gen locations plenty of times, but this was my first time at the Westheimer location. The food was about the same, pretty good quality, but they dropped the ball on service. Our waiter was nice, but I'm not sure what was going on in the back of the house. It took 20 minutes just to get a fork because apparently they were out of clean silverware. Orders were coming out painfully slow. They were out of noodles and calamari. Mind you, we were here at 4pm, still early in the day and off-peak hours as well. We kept having to ask to check on 2 of the meats we ordered in the first round, and one of them still hadn't come out by the time we asked for the check. It's a shame, because the food itself was good. Higher quality meats than other kbbq places I've been to and the honey soy beef belly was fantastic.

Had to give another KBBQ spot a try for a dear friends birthday and the consensus was GEN, which I was coming into with pretty high expectations after a previous okay experience with KBBQ. First let's talk about the vibe. Some might argue this doesn't really matter but I respectfully disagree. I think a well curated vibe can help enhance your experience and lemme say the vibe was definitely curated. It's giving this modern, low lighting feel that just matches the mood with chowing down on some meat. Even to the grill equipment. Secondly the menu/pricing. Look I'm a simple man, give me the pictures and one set price for the normal AYCE experience. And chat that's what we got. Okay they did have a premium menu but let's be honest, you're gonna go ham on the bulgogi mostly right? I'd definitely stick to the normal menu because there's PLENTY of meat options to choose from! I mean pork, beef, chicken. The holy trifecta with plenty of different marinades and sauces. Even for you seafood lovers they got that as well! You might be thinking, ok that's cool and all but how was the QUALITY. Here's my no bs opinion and you don't even have to watch an ad. It's definitely above average and the certain marinades like the honey soy and garlic were especially delicious. However I feel like some other meats like the carne asada and short ribs were not packing the punch I was expecting. There's definitely some room for improvement maybe with a few meat cut quality and marinade/spice mixes but definite gems. Now the service, we were very lucky to be served by some very nice and friendly guys. Now at first when we got our rice it was a bit cold and ofc you know when it comes to the rice it's gotta be WARM, I NEED THAT STEAM BABY. So we asked for it to be exchanged, and just the interaction itself was no fuss smiles all around and even an apology. Love to see it. One of the gentlemen, Boyce, took very good care of us the entire night checking back quickly for any new orders we wanted, giving his recommendations on items, and clearing away plates. But like what summed it up for me, was he was LITERALLY so on top of exchanging out our grill plate after every 1-2 meats that it really gave us the best grilling experience every time. #bless All in all, great KBBQ food at an appropriate price, great staff, great vibes, and great company. So look, give the diet a break and go inhale 2000 calories worth of delicious meat into ya belly. Right neow.

First time visiting Gen in the H and the experience was good - although they were out of shrimp that day (we still had a good experience, yes love the shrimp with kbbq) Meat selections were good and service was consistent and fast, what threw me off was the rice, not quite sure what type of rice it was but it was not jasmine rice which I am usually used to when hitting up kbbq spot. Ambiance was clean and wasn't smoky because we went during lunch and there were only a few people at the restaurant. Overall a solid experience and a good pick when looking for kbbq

On the day that I went, it was still starting to open so there was not a lot of people. Due to that the service was good and very efficient. I was able to get the cuts that I wanted and tried different types. For people who is curious, stop by Costco and then go and try their premium menu. I think it tastes better due to having a lot of choices.

We stayed over in Houston for our anniversary dinner, and we picked the perfect dinner as we were wanting Korean bbq, walking in the lighting is low making it more intimate. Our server was outstanding providing the perfect slices of meat for grilling. Ordering the premium made far more sense for us, and the pickled veggies really cleansed our palate. Try different meats especially the waygu, and do try the soup, which is spicy and delicious. We will definitely return.

This was my first time here. I was very hungry and excited to eat here but...... it was terrible all around. This will be my first and last time here. There is a lot of work needed in this location and if the food and service is like this at all locations then they need to reevaluate it. Food: - KFC Korean fried chicken! this was not made from scratch. The crazy thing that it looks like pieces found at the bottom of a chicken tenders bag. I have thrown away lots of these nuggets from my tenders bags. So not happy with the dish. - Bulgogi fires! I felt it wasn't fried enough in the fries, cheese weren't melted and taste cold. My girl wasn't happy with it and she likes a good bulgogi fries - cilantro lime rice: it wasn't good. Idk but maybe it is the recipe spec but having chunks of garlic pieces in the rice like that I don't know how I feel about it. Which it should be minced or small dice. Rice was also crunchy and not like a fried rice crunch but an under cook rice. Speaking of rice the side rice that comes with the meal was also crunch or hard. Again under cooked, not enough water in the cooking process. I love rice and raised in rice and damn it was sooo bad that I didn't even make a dent in my rice. That's sad!!! Wow! - protein: galbi 1 piece!!!! Really!! Speechless Garlic chicken ehhh ok. Carne asada a lot of meat but damn no flavor and not good. I took one bite and that was it. Didn't eat it. - taro milk tea boba. We order with mango flavored but no mango flavored. This drink should be cold but it was warm. It was good but the result was not correct. Service: - from all around was ok. - they served the protein but didn't serve the utensils. I had ask I'm assuming your food runner but didn't do anything or return with a tong. I ask our server and she went to get it. Our server didn't really checked on us and I had to flag her down a few times for a few things.

Started off pretty rough with no host in their position by the door...We stood there for a couple of minutes until someone nonchalantly walked towards us while still scrolling on their cellphone. Not a good look, especially when people are hangry. Luckily this was the only bad thing that happened tonight. First off, menu is extensive! I've been to Gen before-- their first location, but I don't recall having so many choices. Very pleasantly surprised. Another shocker was the sizing of their apetitizers! Other K-bbq places their appetitzers would be half the size, but here they actually give you a good portion. For appetitizers I liked the soondooboo soup and tonkatsu. Mandu was nothing too special, but it wasn't bad. Japchae is an easy pass-- very bland. First time trying ricepaper with k-bbq, did not know it was a thing till tonight. Not bad. Now the meats, all of them were tasty. No complaints. Usually there would be at least one meat choice in every k-bbq place I go to where there would be a miss, but today everything was solid. Beef bulgogi somehow always ends up being #1 at any establishment that we go to, but tonight crown goes to Hawaiian steak. Okay and to top everything off, our lovely server tonight, Roland! You made my mom so happy, I don't think she's ever been so impressed with anyone like this before. You impressed her so much that it made me impressed because she's pretty hard to please. Management if you're reading this, if you can, please give him a raise. He truly deserves it! As mentioned earlier, we were pretty dissatisified from the beginning, but Roland managed to change the whole night around for us.

It was our first time trying out this place, as it was a recommended by a friend of ours. It was a very pleasant and delightful experience our waiter, Jacobie, was very down to earth, easy to talk to and very attentive to our table. The food for the price blew our mind, it was pretty good quality food for the price point, we went particularly just for the dinner service. The ambiance was very chill when we walked in and pretty inviting to us when we went around dusk/late evening. Would recommend this location to others in the future!!!

One of the cheapest AYCE KBBQ spots in Houston, at $30.95 per person. They can accommodate huge parties of 16 easy, at least based on the birthday party group that was there. Lots of meats to choose from, and plenty of sides to order from as well. Favorite meats to order were the chadol, gochujang beef belly, and of course the galbi. They replace the grills at a good frequency. A few areas where they lost points: 1) only 1 order of galbi at a time, and the slices are super thin 2) some of the sides took forever, the cheese katsu probably took 30 minutes, and we asked about it 2 times. 3) they ran out of the rice wrappers, and we arrived at 5pm... 4) cheese katsu, soondooboo, and hotteok were disappointing; would not recommend any of them.

Receipt for 29 adults Premium Menu ($31.95+$20=$51.95) even though they ran out of Premium Marinated Long Bone Short Rib Steak and Shrimp.

I was at Gen's Westheimer location on Sunday 2/2/25 and will NEVER return to this location. As you can see on my receipt, we had 29 adults for a birthday dinner. We made the reservation in advance and paid a $200 deposit because we had a large party. We are extremely familiar with the Gen Midtown location which we love but decided to give the Westheimer location a chance because it was closer for the majority of our guests and parking is easier/more plentiful. We arrive and the manager lets us know it can only be a maximum of 2 split checks (same policy as Midtown). She then lets us know that there is a Premium Option which is $20 more per person and a Regular Menu ($31.95 per adult). The majority of our group wanted to try the premium menu and a handful were okay sticking with the regular menu. When the manager saw that so few people wanted the Regular option, she encouraged us to do Premium for All guests and offered 8 carafes of Soju to make up for it. As hosts of the party, my husband and I did our best to spread our time between the 2 tables. 15 minutes into us being seated, a few of our friends let us know that the Premium Marinated Long Bone Short Rib Steak as well as the Premium Cajun Shrimp were out. We immediately flagged down the waiter and he confirmed this. I told him we only ordered 1st round and you're already out of the main things we wanted to try on Premium, I want to go back down to Regular menu or at least receive a discount on Premium. Our server was very understanding and said "Look, I haven't charged you guys for anything yet, let me call my manager out to see how we can make this right" Manager came out, we explained how we felt it was unfair of her to sell us on Premium when she's out of the main items making the extra $20 worth it (nobody is paying an extra $20 to eat Al Pastor, Carne Asada, and Pollo Asada). She stated that since we had already started ordering that she cannot charge us for Regular and that the register only has 2 options-one for Regular and one for Premium and that she's not able to give a discount. We asked how she planned on making this right and she said Gen is still able to charge full price for Premium as long as they have some Premium items. She told us we could still order ribeyes. We asked "What ribeyes? Where is that on the menu?" She looked around our table and returned to the front to grab a few laminated sheets that said we could have 1 Ribeye per person. THAT MEANS IF WE HADN'T had issues, we would have never even known it was an option to order ribeyes. We then ordered ribeyes and they came out FROZEN. I called the Manager back and said "can you tell me how to grill frozen ribeyes that still have ice on them?" This was the 1st time she actually seemed embarrassed and said she would go and get me the "non-frozen ones". When she returned I asked if she wanted the frozen ones back and she said yes. I am 100% sure that the frozen ribeyes will be served again to other customers despite sitting at our table for 10 minutes. My group didn't tamper with anything but who is to say that if this happened to another group they wouldn't have spit or cough on the steaks? GROSS!!! To make matters worse, the waiters kept bringing out the same cuts of meat and they were meats we hadn't ordered. I had to pull aside our server Rolando (that's what my receipt says his name was) and told him not to bring anything that was not ordered from a member of my party. He was apologetic and kind. The receipt came out and they tried to highlight 22% (options are 18%, 22%, and 25%) but we immediately said to change back down to 18%. TLDR Long Story Short: 1. Gen Westheimer Female Manager from Sunday 2/2/25 IS TERRIBLE! MEAT ALSO SUBPAR. Will never ever return to Gen Westheimer location. 2. Make sure Gen actually has all Premium Menu Items Available before opting for the $20 more expensive premium option ($51.95 vs $31.95). 3. Don't cheap out on tip for waiters/servers just because their manager is the worst (we still tipped 18% on receipt despite being straight up cheated).

Beer price on menu is $9, got charged for $12.98. Did not check till got home.

A 2-year Michellin star BBQ joint was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. My friends and I got there around 10am and were lucky enough to grab a number. The number secures your spot in line but don't worry if you show up and they run out, there's a spot on the porch where the non-number line starts. We ordered moist brisket, garlic sausage, and the beef rib. For sides, we went with mac and cheese and beans. Everything was superb! The brisket melted in your mouth, no knife needed. The sausage had a nice snap to it and get great flavor. The bark on the beef rib was *chef's kiss*. The mac and cheese was creamy while the beans had a nice sweet and tangy flavor. The taste of the pulled pork tacos was great, but it was honestly too wet and made the flour tortillas too soggy and there was way too much coleslaw on top. I feel like if Killen's is going to serve pulled pork tacos there needs to be three things done. 1. Serve the tacos with an option of corn tortillas because I feel corn tortillas would've worked better to give a great contrast/pairing with the sweetness of the pulled pork and sauce. 2. Serve the corn/flour tortillas on the side so that they don't get soggy and wet. 3. There are some things that just don't belong on a taco of any kind and that's coleslaw. My partner and I also tasted the banana pudding and to say it was divine is an understatement. What I really like about this pudding was that you could taste real bananas in this pudding and it had been mixed well all together. Our total was $80 after tipping, which is a little pricey for some of the items, but honestly I would definitely come back to Killen's Barbecue when I was in the mood for barbecue.

Visiting from out of town and decided to give this place a try. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door. I was not sure what I wanted to try, so Sam, the owner, gave me a sampling of everything; brisket sandwich, spare rib, potato, salad, coleslaw, beans, macaroni and cheese, jambalaya rice, and french fries. Everything tasted better than expected, especially the french fries, as few BBQ restaurants are able to get these just right. I will definitely return tomorrow to try something new. Definitely ordering the macaroni and cheese and potato salad again. Special thanks to Sam, the owner, who definitely took care of me. He knew I was from out of town, but treated me like a long time customer, which I greatly appreciate. Give this place a try... You will not be disappointed!

The ribs were nice not dripping with fat, but not dry either. The brisket was moist and very tender. The potato was super loaded with cheese, butter, sour cream, bacon bits and sprinkled chives. This place is next to a gas station, but not attached to the station shop. The restaurant is very clean, and everything looks brand new and spotless.

I love Texas BBQ so I've been to all the Austin, Dallas, and Houston spots especially on Texas Monthly. Brisket was dry, chicken was brined for a little too long and gave a tire texture. Potato salad was too wet, too fatty, and didn't provide the acidity to contrast the fat. The sausage was decent, I give 4/5 stars. It was thick, juicy, and was similar to other places such as Truth, Corkscrew, Terry Black's, etc. The elotes was also too acidic for my liking and the cheese on top didn't mix well with the dish. Finally, the brisket was just ok. I must've gotten a lean piece because it had the texture of chicken thighs. The bark wasn't flavorful or smoky. Barbecue sauce was what I expected. Worchestchire, ketchup, and brown sugar elements make up for an average BBQ spot. Overall, I would come back and order 10 of the brisket egg rolls and call it a meal.
