This place is great for a snack - not exactly a quick snack since everything is made fresh, but a simple mid-to-late-day pick-me-up. I've only tried their chocolate and regular waffles, as well as a few of their tea options. Compared to the tea, the waffles and toppings are very mellow in flavor, while the drinks can be quite sweet. I haven't tried reducing the sweetness because I like the way they make their tea--at least, the ones I usually get. I prefer their fruit-flavored teas over the milk-based ones, but the milk-based options are also good. The inside is small and clean, with plenty of seating and enough separation for a bit of privacy if you're with a date. The place is very well lit, and you can watch the workers as they prepare everything. The workers are almost always pleasant and communicate well. However, on my last visit, they actually made me upset. I didn't say anything, but let's just say I had to wait to get my order after everyone else received theirs, even though I had ordered for three people. This meant they got their items, and I got mine after them, along with other random waiting customers, and even those who showed up in the next ten minutes. That was frustrating. Happy Lemon is still going strong. I've tried a few drinks and now I know what I like here. I often order the strawberry jasmine green tea w/ rock salt crema, 30% sugar level. The drink itself is quite sweet so I recommend getting a lower sugar level. I usually get the drink with boba and/or pudding - they go very well. I've had Happy Lemon from other parts of the country, and they're all about the same as the one in University Village. Service is quick, and drinks are always just average/mediocre. SLU Happy Lemon is one of their better locations in my opinion. I loved when they had a Strawberry Green Milk Tea with Crystal Boba and Crema. It was advertised as "the drink you can eat." Not sure if they still offer it because I haven't visited in a while. A little pricier than the average but that's due to the toppings. If you were to separate everything, you'd pay more so you do save a few cents. Everything also blends together pretty well to create a creamy tea with a strong green tea flavor as well as introduce unique textures from the crema and cookie crumbles alongside the chewy crystal boba. I got the drink half sweet no ice but it was still way too sweet, so keep that in mind when deciding what sweetness level to get. Solid spot for boba and was happy when they opened a few years back, given there were not currently many places in the Belltown/SLU area for bubble tea! It seems like they are doing well as the lines can be long. However, it moves quickly, they have a good system and the staff is pretty efficient. I asked for NO taro balls in my ube drink. You can see on the receipt that it says "sub taro balls", however the system added another $0.50 to my drink instead of subtracting $0.50. It's a configuration error probably. I alerted my cashier to this error but they didn't even look to understand what I was telling them and just handwaved it and told me to paid. I didn't want to go back and forth over $1 but small annoyances like this add up. About the drinks: I think the fruit drinks are the best here. I recommend the lemon black tea. If you work nearby and crave bubble tea, this is a great place to check out. In my opinion, it's the best bubble tea in the area. However, Happy Lemon drinks are quite pricey, but if you're working in the area, this probably doesn't matter to you. A memorable story I'll share about this location is experiencing someone losing their 'boba virginity'. These out-of-town folks from Montana asked me how to drink bubble tea. Two of them had the typical plastic cellophane to seal their drinks and the other person had an actual hard lid on his with an opening. They all had toppings at the bottom of their drinks, so I highly suggested that they shake their drinks to mix them. Then, I showed them how to pierce the top of their drinks with the straw in one go. I advised the fellow with the hard plastic lid to not shake his, but to stir his drink by poking his straw through the opening of the lid. Judging from the looks on their faces and what they said, they enjoyed what they ordered and would return had they not been visiting out of town.
