Shrimp PoBoy
Jorge P.

Happy Lobster is a great place to go for lunch or even if you're feeling some flavorful high quality seafood. You don't see too many places like this in Chicago, that is fast food. I saw them making lobster dishes and sandwiches and it all looked so fresh, surprisingly. A lobster grilled cheese came out before mine and I got mad I didn't pick that instead... haha it was mouth watering from a distance. Cheesy goodness. A bit pricey for my Shrimp PoBoy ($15) but the experience was worth it. Good service with a smile too. This specific Happy Lobster was in the UrbanSpace food hall and was one of many restaurants I could have picked from. I'm glad I choose Happy Lobster that day. Thanks for a good experience! Personal Review: 7.1/10

Lobster roll and slaw
Jose G.

I ordered a regular lobster roll and slaw for dinner. I thought the price and portion size, we're misaligned I thought I received a kid's meal. I thought using a brioche bun was a unique touch. I thought the slaw was a bit on the dry side. I thought "maybe this is how they make cole slaw in Chicago." I thought the server was very friendly. I knew I would be hungry later. Real rating : 3.75

Pleasantly surprised by the flavor, but terribly disappointed by the serving size/cost. I ordered the "junior" lobster roll, so I knew it would be on the smaller side, but even with the chips and coleslaw (which was quite lackluster), it's hard to justify the price. There are many other options in the Urbanspace food hall, so I'd suggest skipping Happy Lobster unless you're reeeally craving a lobster roll.

Happy Lobster was my selection when I recently visited the new Urbanspace food hall. I will admit that the lobster roll I had was absolutely delicious. However, at $22 for the roll, a bag of kettle chips and small cup of vinegar coleslaw, I find the price not fully worth it. The coleslaw was absolutely not that great. Given the small portion, I would expect the slaw to impress, which it did not. The two young men working at the counter were extremely professional and represented the brand well.

This is my second time at The Happy Lobster, and I was very pleased with my experience both times! I had the lobster grilled cheese, which was very tasty and had generous helpings of lobster on the sandwich also! The fries are seasoned well, and are crinkle cut. I had the angry lobster roll the first time I was there and it was also pretty good! The only thing I would say is that it was a pretty small roll if you are really hungry. I would definitely recommend checking this place out though!

Lobster sandwich

Very good sandwich. Very pricey though, $31 for a regular sized sandwich or you could get the slider size for $18. If we are basing would I go back on product, the heck yes! If it's on price, only on very special occasions maybe once a year.

The cost is pretty ridiculous for what you get. I understand it's lobster, but it wasn't anything special. The sandwich is uninspired and sooo so small. Bun was cold and tasted a bit stale. The coleslaw seemed old and limp, I didn't eat it after a few bites. Disappointing.

Pretty pricey for what seems to be a greasy standard hamburger sized portion. The happy lobster (what we ordered) was $24, plus tax =$27. While it's understandable for the price given that it's lobster, there was nothing that was special enough for it to be $27 a sandwich. Probably would go else where for a lobster roll instead for that price!

We waited like 5 minutes for a table but were seated at a small two person booth/table. Our server was pretty busy but attentive and knew a lot about the menu. We ordered the wedge salad and the yellowtail sushi roll. It was spicy and had a nice touch of yuzu on top and the fish was relatively fresh. The wedge salad had plenty of dressing on it and it was pretty good. For the main we got the Chilean sea bass which was very sweet and savory. The scallops had a perfect sear and they were pretty very rich and buttery. The broccolini was steamed and fresh. He finished off dinner with the crème brûlée and the Keylime pie, both of us we had to take home because we were so full. I think overall this experience is pleasant, not something very memorable, but I'm happy I've came here!

My favorites were the crab cake, Cobb salad, and short rib. The crab cake was very soft and had a nice texture to it. It was one of the best crab cakes I've eaten. The Cobb salad was also very light and shareable. The short rib main course was very tender, and it came with crispy potatoes as well. Some of the other items such as the Philly cheesesteak and Asian tacos were just ok. They were also both very small in quantity relative to their price. The desserts were magnificent as well, especially the deconstructed key lime pie and sticky toffee pudding. Both of them were phenomenal. The service throughout my meal was excellent. My waitress gave us some nice recommendations, and the staff came by often. I would definitely recommend to visit Bar Mar, and I look forward to coming back myself when I am in Chicago.

We really admire Jose's philanthropic work and want to love his restaurants but truth be told, if you forget about the glitzy decor, the food is just average. We tried several appetizers; the Hamachi Cone, Caviar Cone, Asian Taco, Neptune's Pillows, Shrimp Cocktail and Iberico Jamon. We also shared a bottle of Cava. Everything was fine but to be frank the Shrimp Cocktail was the best thing we ate, simple and perfectly fresh. The service was pushy, when a server wants to take you order less than 3 minutes after sitting down, it feels like you're on a conveyor belt. We felt the prices were way out of line, with tip I spent almost $500 for a bottle of cava and appetizers for two people, for that, the food should have been more memorable. We spent the same amount for two off us to have the 12 course tasting menu at Atsumeru a couple of weeks ago and Bar Mar's food isn't in the same league. We will continue to financially support Jose's World Kitchen but not his restaurants.

They offer personalized menus therefore I requested one with the reservation. When I arrived I noted two menus behind the hostess stand but they were labeled and neither with my husband's name. I asked the hostess if there was a menu for my husband. She looked up the reservation, said "no and it's probably too late to make one". (Although we were half an hour early having drinks at the bar.) Then she stated that they had a generic birthday menu that they could give him with no attempts to try and provide what was requested ahead of time. We were sat at an extremely small table and he was provided a regular menu which was given to him per the directive of said hostess. The manager came to the table to greet us as I'm assuming the sever was behind. I spoke to him about the menu and he asked if I made the request along with the reservation and I told him that I did. He said that he needed to verify. After doing so he came back and agreed that I had and said happy birthday to my husband and offered us a half a glass of "bubbly" which we reluctantly accepted. Then everyone went on as if nothing happened. We didn't receive an apology. There was no offer to satisfy us in any other way. (A decent table upgrade would have been nice,) Then I see the same glass of champagne wing offered to another couple celebrating a birthday while sitting in a large booth. There was a large table next to us with a couple celebrating an anniversary. Then a younger couple came in and was told to choose a table wherever they would like. The food was great. The wait staff was excellent but I did not appreciate the way we were treated. I don't want to say it was racism but I was made to feel... different. Side note. I visited Maple and Ash (a sister restaurant) in Arizona for my birthday a couple of years ago. They printed the menu for me but spelled my name wrong. When it was mentioned it was immediately corrected. That's why I'm so confused as to what the big deal was.
