classy and very old money esc atmosphere, reasonable prices. The steak frites were cooked to perfection! Great portions for how little it cost, the bread was also warm and served in large enough quantities to fill you up before you even get your meal. Waiters and staff were helpful and friendly and the man playing the piano made the atmosphere and experience 10x better.

Came here for dinner while in town for a trade show. Sat at the bar. Restaurant is part of Gibson's. Diverse menu. Ordered the Whifish plank with mashed potatoes and a garden salad for $34. Had a Blue Moon. Service was prompt. Nice ambiance. Nice salad and bread. Huge piece of white fish and potatoes. All very good.

    Escargot and shrimp cocktail.

Excellent food and service. First time ever having escargot and it was great, shrimp are colossal, steaks cooked perfectly and our server was amazing. The dinner bread was also very unique and delicious, and the live piano provided great background at a very upbeat and casual but upscale experience. 10/10. Pack a little cash to tip the excellent bathroom attendant.

Came here for happy hour and I wasn't impressed nor disappointed by the food. But the prices are definitely pretty hard to beat. Our server was very lovely and accommodating. The ambiance inside was very nice and well decorated.

A classic Gold Coast stable. I stopped in for a late afternoon lunch with a friend. We happen to stumble in upon their happy hour menu. Hostess stuff was a little bit, un accommodating, saying that I can't have my ESA dog that stays in my purse with me outside on the patio. They were a little bit rude about it. Besides that, the food was great. We shared six oysters varying from both east and West Coast. We also shared a lobster roll and ordered two dirty martinis. This was the perfect late lunch/early girl dinner. Hugo's frog bar is always stable and I will continue to come back.

I'm the heart of the V-Triangle lies Hugo Frog Bar. This restaurant is in a shared kitchen with Gibsons, serving top quality steaks and service. This is definitely a space to reserve so you can guarantee yourself a seat in this old school charm of a steakhouse. We started with some appetizers and they're all highly recommended. The oysters were clean finishes, escargot piping hot, and frog legs perfectly tender. All entrees also come with either a soup or salad, a rarity in upper class steakhouses. Steaks are cooked to perfection and fishes are seared perfectly! Oh yes, it's also a fish house, so order from land or sea and it'll be delightful either way. The monstrous cake turns out to be a quarter of a whole cake, which is gigantic, as you can see. Delectable and delightful. The servers and bussers were fantastic. They were attentive and kind. Always helpful but not overbearing. Hugo Frog Bar is a great place for all types of food and impecable service.

This place is so nice. There's plenty of seating including the bar area. We didn't order drinks but the shrimp rolls were really good, especially with the side of homemade chips. We also got their oysters which is half off during happy hour and it was relay good. The eats coast oysters were the best. Definitely will be coming back to try other things on the menu. The service here is absolutely amazing.

Came here for happy hour and it's such a cute and nice place! It's a seat yourself place so where ever there's open seats or table, please seat yourself. Which I have never heard before and it was so nice. We got their oysters both east and west coast and I preferred the east coast more but it was so good. Their shrimp rolls was really good as well with so much flavors and a side of homemade chips. The service here was truly amazing! She gave us her recommendation and really checked up on us from time to time. Will be coming back to try their other foods on the menu.

Hugo's is a gem!! Same kitchen as Gibbons next door, so if you can't get in there, this is your move. The ambiance is one of a real steakhouse and the staff is very attentive and friendly. We kept saying they have real waiters and service here, even better than NYC. Started with martinis and the blue cheese olives, which shocked me because I usually hate blue cheese. These were creamy, mild, and hands-down the best olives I've ever had and we couldn't stop ordering more. Apps were so good! Crab cake packed with real crab, and oysters Rockefeller loaded with creamed spinach (one of the best versions I've had). The calamari was also sooo good and fresh. My friend ordered the clam chowder which I tried and it was also delicious. For mains, the T-bone was cooked a perfect medium-rare, rich and flavorful, and we ordered a side of creamed spinach that was delicious. Creamed spinach isn't on the menu but if you ask for it they will make it. Caesar was solid but standard. Dessert is no joke here and a must order. "Slices" of carrot cake are like 1/4th the cake and key lime pie are massive and both taste as good as they look. You have to get these. This spot is a must when in Chicago and worth every bite. Good was amazing.

After the fitting at Enzo Custom (see review), the Queen and I made dinner reservations to eat at Hugo's. The Queen was excited because she had heard my tales of dining and drinking in the Viagra Triangle back in its heyday, and Hugo's was one of those stops. While the shenanigans of the olden days were not on display, it was good to see that the quality of the food and service was still the same, simply excellent. It felt like old home week Because it was the Queen's first time going, we definitely started with the frog's legs. Those legs are small but oh so good! They are tender and succulent, covered in that lovely lemony butter. I would have loved another order, but we ordered multiple starters and wanted to save room for dessert. Hugo's is known for their oysters, so we got a dozen East Coast ones and the Oysters Rockefeller. We love East Coast oysters as they have a creamy texture and taste that we love. Not sure what it was, but there was this green icy condiment served with the oysters that was intriguing. It was really good. The Oysters Rockefeller were also very good. I know that this style of oyster is not for everyone, but I absolutely love the spinach mixture and fennel on top of the warm oyster. For dinner, I got a steak and The Doctor/The Queen got fish, with several side dishes: the lump crab mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. The lump crab mac and cheese was great, with a nice creamy texture. There was a nice amount of crab meat in the dish, so I was satisfied. The potatoes were very good too, nice and creamy. Didn't try the asparagus as it does not sit well with me, but The Doctor and The Queen said they were good. My steak was just to die for as it was just tender and flavorful. The Doctor/The Queen both said that their fish was very good. I had a taste of the Tuna and I have to say it was pretty good. For dessert we shared the strawberry shortcake which was very yummy and big enough to feed 4-5 people. We ended up finishing up all of the strawberries and some of the cake. Our server was just wonderful, attentive and very pleasant. He was so nice that he sent us home with a giant piece of carrot cake that took us days to finish. While the old floor shows I use to see back in the day have been long gone, the charm, service and food are still there and are still killing it. I will definitely be paying a visit back to Hugo's, if only to get them tasty frog legs.

We had a great dining experience at Hugo's Frog Bar and Fish House. Our server Frank M. was fantastic and attentive, he truly made the experience even better. Starting the evening off with fresh bread and butter is a nice touch. We ordered several dishes, the portions were very large and left us incredibly full. For starters, I had the clam chowder, which was the best clam chowder I've ever had. The restaurant was great to divide our meals for those of us sharing as well. The shrimp with rice and a butter sauce may have been the favorite dish we all sampled. For the price, you expect great food and service, Hugo's did just that!

Sydney was my partner and I's server last night and she made the experience amazing. She was the most intuitive and knowledgeable service we've had in the time we've lived in the city. She was so on top of what we might need that it was all taken care of before we could ask for it. Our steak came a bit undercooked and she whisked it back to the kitchen before we even had the chance to debate if it was worth saying something. She was able to recommend wines based on our preference and offer suggestions for our meal to come out as ideally as possible. We had the crab cake and seared tuna appetizer and a filet to share for an entree with a side of crab Mac and cheese. The food was spectacular as always but having someone like Sydney is what made tonight such a standout, even in a city as known for memorable dining as Chicago.

Wow wow wow Hugo's was even better than I expected!!!!! We got so much food and everything was a 10/10. This place is ALWAYS busy, so definitely make a reservation or be prepared for a little bit of a wait if you have more than 2 people in your party. The inside has a very classic, traditional steakhouse feel to it. They also have a few patio tables. They only bring out bread upon request so make sure to ask your server for some when you get seated. My favorite thing we ordered was the lobster rolls. They did not skimp on the lobster so they were worth the money. The rolls they came in were lightly toasted, soft on the inside and drenched it butter (in the best possible way). The chips were a nice touch, but I ended up using them to each my crab cake which was also stuffed with lots of crab meat. We also got streak frites that came with the most delicious herbed butter sauce on the side. It was so good we ordered 2 more sides of it to eat with the rest of our meal. Our steak was a little more rare than we wanted it (ordered medium rare) so keep that in mind when ordering. Brussel sprouts were also amazing & would order those again along with everything else we got. Can't wait to go back!!!!!!!!

    When is happy hour?

    At bar, Sun-Thurs 3pm-6pm

Do they still have a happy hour for oysters? Looked at their website and current menu but no Mention of any $1 oysters? Thanks!

I think you are thinking of Hugo's Frog Bar on Rush St

Is happy hour still running from 3-6pm with $1 oysters?

Yes it is going on now

Is happy hour still happening and if so, what days and times?

    Are blue Jean appropriate attire?

That's what I wore to sit at the bar. You may be a bit less formal than many patrons but I didn't feel out of place.

The salty, truffle umami was so delicious and the noodles were perfectly al dente. After briefly mentioning we were at Gilt to celebrate a special event, the waiter shortly brought out gelato on the house. We got the mango gelato and it was so refreshing!! Service was top tier. 9.5/10. They genuinely cared about making things right when something went wrong. Our server even covered the forgotten Espresso Martini. The Chocolate Martini (9.5/10) tasted creamy and chocolatey and was dangerously easy to drink. The French Martini (9/10) was fruity and smooth. The Espresso Martini (7/10) was better than a lot I've tried but could've been sweeter and foamier. The Prosecco (9/10) was fantastic. The Fried Chicken Sliders (8/10) were crispy, juicy, and perfectly coated in Nashville hot sauce without being overly spicy or drenched in sauce. The bread was a little firm, which reminded me of Parker house rolls from Trivoli. The Onion Rings (7/10) were crispy and oily with a nice spicy mayo. The Truffle Mafaldine (8/10) was unfortunately room temp, but the al dente pasta, creamy sauce, and truffle bits were heavenly. The Steak & Ale Pot Pie (9/10) was fantastic. Tender brisket, flaky crispy puff pastry, and creamy mash underneath made it feel like short ribs and mash in pie form. The Prime Rib French Dip (8.5/10) had tender, flavorful meat, but the bread was pretty plain and needed more crunch. The Chocolate Layer Cake (6/10) was a little dry and not quite chocolatey enough at first, but it got much better drenched in the hot fudge and paired with the vanilla gelato. Interestingly, when I had the leftover cake straight from the fridge the next morning, it was perfectly moist and much more chocolatey. Overall, great time with amazing cocktails, top-tier service, and solid food. Definitely coming back with a reservation to experience the dining room or library.

I wanted nothing more than to ring in year 45 with a great glass of natural wine... and I walked out having had a 7-glass flight and one of the most memorable evenings of the trip. The bartenders deserve their own star. They weren't just knowledgeable--they were genuinely fun to talk to, the kind of people who make you feel like you've been coming there for years. We went from discussing funky wine profiles to diving deep into '80s horror films, which is absolutely my idea of a perfect tangent. Their enthusiasm and curiosity made the whole experience feel personal and spontaneous. As for the wine: unique, surprising, and delicious, even the pours I didn't expect to enjoy. Good Funk leans into exploration in the best way--nothing feels generic or predictable. Every glass had its own personality, and the flight felt like a curated adventure rather than a lineup. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, stylish without being pretentious, and perfect for either a solo wind-down or a lively night out. It's the kind of place that encourages you to linger, taste one more thing, have one more conversation. Good Funk turned what could've been a quiet, forgettable evening into an unforgettable birthday-eve celebration. If you're in Chicago and love natural wine--or just love a spot with genuine heart--don't miss this place.

We ordered a flight of whiskey sours, which contained whiskeys from Japan, Vietnam, and Wisconsin. I also was able to order an amaretto sour, which they made with freshly hand beaten egg whites, which was a nice cherry on the top. As far as the whiskey flights go, I think the best one was the Vietnam flight because it had a slightly lemongrass twang and was a little bit lighter than the other two. The heaviest one was the Wisconsin which came with a little bit of a bite at the end, but it still wasn't bad if you're trying to blackout on a $15 budget. I would definitely come back with a larger group this seems like a great place, but is a little bit loud- so if you be prepared to yell or wear earplugs. The bathroom took my a second to find, which should have been intuitive considering it was on the opposite end of where you come in. I blame the lighting as things are already pretty hard to find in the dark, but eventually I made it there-Pat myself on the back.

Since it is a rooftop, you are greeted by a host downstairs that calls an elevator for you and then by a host upstairs. It's mainly outdoor seating. They offer some food, but if you want something more substantial, Avec downstairs is your best best. Our server was fun and guessed what drinks we would like most based on our vibes. I was happy when he said mine because I was already between two drinks and he picked one of those! I loved the Side to Side cocktail. My bestie wanted more from her Golden Oldie. It's a pretty spot.

The vibes here are immaculate. You walk into a building and check in and they send you up in an…read moreelevator to the roof. It's so iconic. Every server was kind, but we lucked out with Ingrid who was extra special! Quick and the drinks were very good. The food was just amazing. We got so many things I didn't get pics of. These dates wrapped in bacon were a highlight. Honestly you couldn't go wrong with anything you try here!
