Having Jenn and Michael as our instructor trainers were probably the highlights of the entire thing. The fact that I was able to learn so much and still keep it positive and uplifting was very refreshing! We had such an amazing group and it really eased my nerves that we had such a great group of instructors and participants to share ideas and adopt new ways of instructing really made the entire experience super collaborative. I worked with Bryan R. to try to coordinate a lifeguard for our 4th of July party. I'll start by acknowledging that I reached out on June 30 for a July 4 event. I understand that wasn't much notice for what is probably one of the busiest weekends of the year, and I knew from the beginning that there was a good chance they wouldn't be able to find coverage. They ultimately refunded me, and this one-star review is **not** because they couldn't find a lifeguard. It's because of the communication, or lack thereof. After I submitted my request, I received an automated email that said, *"I will keep you updated as we work to secure coverage for your event."* That never happened. The following day, I emailed Bryan to explain that if I didn't know whether a lifeguard had been secured until right before the event, I would lose the opportunity to find one elsewhere. His response was that I was welcome to look elsewhere if it would "make me feel better." After that, I heard nothing for three days. The day before my event, I reached out again and received a brief reply that he hadn't found anyone "yet." I responded that I understood and simply asked whether he was still actively looking or if there was a point when they stop searching and issue a refund. That email was never answered. In fact, I never received another response. There was no confirmation that they were unable to staff the event, no explanation, no apology, and no follow-up after I emailed to share my frustration with the experience. I completely understand that not every request can be fulfilled, especially on short notice. What I don't understand is leaving a customer in the dark and then disappearing entirely. Even a simple update or a quick "we've exhausted our options and won't be able to staff your event" would have gone a long way. If responsive communication is important to you, this was not my experience. read more

Jenn and Kimberly were fantastic! We needed an LGI course on short notice- within days Jenn and Kimberly had not only agreed to work with us, but had setup our course through American Red Cross, contacted the participants and Kimberly arranged a cross-country flight to lead our course personally. Everyone in the class agreed- Kimberly is a fantastic teacher! She's seen and done just about everything in the aquatics industry, and her knowledge and passion was evident in everything she led and taught during our class. Each of our guards came away inspired, impressed, and with the skills they'll need to lead classes of their own in the future. Kimberly was even willing to briefly audit our facility after completing the course. Hired a lifeguard for private event, one month before the event. They canceled 3 days before the event. Do not recommend them. As a reply to the owner. That is a gross misinterpretation of what actually transpired. I responded to each text and phone call. I asked for assistance immediately, but actually did not get any response regarding a lifeguard and was only told I would get a refund. Your employee called me approximately 36 hours after you canceled, to offer to work at that party. I, of course, had already found someone else by that time. Given your other reviews, this seems to be a common practice for your business. I still do not recommend your company. read more

My fault was emailing the owner Jenn Tyler with one simple question. "If my daughter did not pass the swimming test, do we get refund for the CPR/First Aid class that she did not attend?" The reply was highly unprofessional and a disrepectful long email, teaching me parenting and questioning what kind of a parent am I? I was shocked by the attitude and the tone of the email containing many capital letters. I was wondering " is she yelling at my face?, is she ok? " Owning a buseness does not qualify anyone to feel empowered to harass their clients with such emails. I am keeping this written document (her email) for my records. read more

CHRIS IS THE BEST INSTRUCTOR! He was very well educated in everything he taught us not like other past lifeguard instructor classes I have taken in the past. I have never been more confident in knowing all the rescues. I had the most disappointing experience with Happy Swimmers. I contracted with them and paid for three life guards on May 10th for a corporate event at my CEO home. On August 17th, one day before my event they emailed saying they wouldn't be able to keep the contact and sorry for any inconvenience and that I would get a full refund. I had 120 kids coming for an event that was fully planned months in advance. I NEEDED the service I paid for. No explanation. No response to my email asking why. Very poor business strategy. DONT USE THEM. Save yourself the stress. RESPONSE: yes, we had used you twice with positive results. I've only reviewed my last interaction. What I didn't write & should have is that my emails went unanswered until I wrote this review. 20 minutes after writing this review you contacted me. In your emails to me you were more concerned with my review and how it makes you look and less concerned with my experience. I did hire lifeguards the morning of my event. College students not full fledged lifeguards like I should have had. I hope for future clients sake you do have a policy in place so that this doesn't happen to anyone else. read more

I had the opportunity to renew my CPR certification with Gloria Walker. She is by far the best and most competent trainer I have ever had the pleasure to work with. She was organized, thorough and knowledgeable. it was actually a really fun and informative class but be warned she's not there to play! She takes training very seriously and she has no problem shutting down nonsense. It shouldn't be a problem if you're there to really learn. I would definitely recommend her specifically, she is fantastic. I can't speak to the rest of the company or it services. read more

I have taken TWO courses with Happyswimmers.com. I have been an Aquatics Professional for nearly 20 years and due to injury my LG and LGI certifications lapsed. Happyswimmers came to the rescue. I booked them for 10 Lifeguard students- including myself and instructor Chelsea was a rockstar. She provided fantastic feedback and ensured everyone fully understood all skills. I had the opportunity to take my Lifeguard Instructor Course with the owner- Jenn and another instructor Joseph. Jenn contacted all students multiple times to ensure everyone was prepared for the intensive course. She managed to balance the sobering realization that we could have an effect on whether someone lives or dies due to our instruction while still giving kind, constructive feedback. Not everyone can be a lifeguard, or lifeguard instructor, but those who finish their certification through happyswimmers will have been given the knowledge that is needed to save someone's life. They provided life guard training - they were professional, engaged, entertaining and thorough. BUT, what really compels me to write a review is the personalized service I received from the owner and one of their instructors. I received the shallow water lifeguard certification which was organized through 24 Hour Fitness for their aqua aerobic instructors. But I also wanted the deep water cert. Happy Swimmers went WAY out of their way (without inconveniencing any of the other participants) to include me in just the piece I needed. Their detailed instruction saves lives. This is a follow up to my original negative review of this company. The owner of the company got involved and found a lifeguard for my party. She also offered a discounted rate for the frustration. While I still don't condone the excuse of a policy and procedure failure due to 'being very busy hiring people that it fell through the cracks, I applaud the way the owner stepped in to make things right. This was a party that could of had major disappoint for my granddaughter since the invitation announced a certified lifeguard and that parents need not attend. Recently just took a lifeguard review/recertification class in Redwood City, and I feel as though this class was as efficient as it could have been making this class go from the normal two day to a one day. I live out of the area, so it was extremely nice to only have to come for one day. I was with two instructors, one of which I appreciated a lot for her engagement with the class and her dedication to ensuring that we understood everything that we would be tested on (Jenn). The other instructor, while a bit harsh, was understanding and answered all questions I asked in an efficient manner (Gloria). The exams were much more engaging than previous courses, and I felt like the material was applicable to my job to keep others safe. The instructors stayed late with me to finish up my exam, and were passionate about making sure each individual person had their techniques perfect and their understandings clear. Some may think this class was nit-picky, but I believe that without the attention to detail that Happy Swimmers showed during recertification, we would have less safe swimming areas. I decided to sign up for this class because I wanted to become lifeguard certified for my future career. I left this class feeling completely confident in my abilities and knowledge to be able to save a life if I was ever placed into a situation that required said action. The instructor, Chelsea, was incredibly knowledgable and kind but also made sure the students knew how vital the information was. If the class was ever unsure of how something should be done, she would demonstrate and then make us practice until we were all confident in our abilities. If students began goofing off or began to lose focus she masterfully got everyone back on track and focused. The two day long class was packed with lifesaving information and drills finished by demonstration of the learned physical knowledge as well as a written exam. I would recommend this class and instructor Chelsea to anyone who is getting certified. read more

Both my sons did there lifeguard certification here, one passed the exam last year and my other son did it a week ago. He was warned by his brother: Hey bro, prepare yourself, they are far from nice, the atmosphere is cold and they try to teach you the lessons in a very harsh way. And of course this is a life saver course, so it is super serious, we totally understand, but there is no reason to structure this course like that and act so that students get uncomfortable. My son didn't pass, had 8 faults in stead of 7 with the written test and the second time again, 8 instead of 7. We wrote the owner Jenn Tyler a friendly email to express our feelings and ask if he could redo the written tests. He forwarded those messages to his instructors and WOW they were very harsh on him again. They refused to let him redo the test, one of the instructors said: maybe next year, she said:I personally didn't feel the maturity level is there. Why didn't they say that in the beginning? So many people were sent home but my son was so committed and passed every other test. When we asked our money back, Jenn refused to give it back. My son needs to do the whole course again, 2 full days from 8-7pm instead of redoing only the written test. We emailed back and forth, our biggest disappointment is that Jenn Tyler refused to have a telephone conversation with my husband about this matter. Wow, is this how you treat your clients? Take their money, 275 dollar, and then sit back and relax instead of facing the problem and have a professional, clear conversation on the phone. I think he was super scared because he knows that his instructors failed in there way of communication (and in there emails later). Furthermore he had some very unprofessional, almost rude assumptions about what kind of kid my son was. Wow, bravo for the owner that was scared to face the situation and did not have the the politeness and guts to talk on the phone. Super disappointed. read more

I took their lifeguarding course over the weekend, which was my second time being certified as a lifeguard. I was definitely disappointed with the quality of the instruction by the main teacher, who owns the company. The other instructors seemed to feel completely undermined, as the main instructor would change the guidelines they had given us. The class was unorganized. We were threatened with being sent home many times. I learned much less than the last time I took the class, and it was more time consuming. There was unnecessary swearing at us, and some of the instructors made inappropriate comments, such as telling us that a girl with a larger build was the best floater in the class. I would recommend finding a different lifeguarding class for a more efficient and helpful lifeguarding course. read more

We booked with Happy Swimmers for my son's 7 year birthday/pool party last July of 2016. Susan was our lifeguard and she contacted me right away when she was assigned to our party. She was great at answering questions and letting me know what she needed to make the party go smoothly. She arrived right on time to the party. She was professional the entire time and did an amazing job watching the kids. The parents were also impressed with her and so glad I hired a lifeguard which allowed them to relax and enjoy the party rather than worrying about their kids in a pool.
