    Tonkotsu Ramen

So I ordered takeout last month from this place for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised they were not your average teriyaki joint. The menu is extensive. Every item I ordered was on point.. So I decided then I was going to come back and eat in the restaurant. I'm so happy that I did. The sushi quality is good. The hand rolls were amazing in comparison to all the other top-tier sushi restaurants they're double the size 1st of all. The fried calamari was amazing and the sauce that they make in house is awesome. I love to mix wasabi with QP mayo as an extra sauce on the side, which I would advise everyone at least try. The tonKatsu Ramen off the hook. This is a must try spot definitely!

A craving struck for sushi and I've been meaning to visit Happy Teriyaki since it's fairly close to me. Came here for a midday meal during the week and I was able to be seated right away. Comfortable, hole-in-the-wall type of atmosphere and really kind staff with quick service. Perfect lunch spot, if you ask me! You're started off with complimentary miso soup, which was delicious. Always nice to warm up with that on these cold days, too! I ordered a California Roll and the Spicy Ninja Roll. The California Roll was packed to the brim and super delicious. The Spicy Ninja Roll was the star of the show, though. It definitely has a kick and was STUFFED. It has spicy crab, torched salmon on top, and then drizzled with a spicy sauce. My mouth is literally watering thinking about it right now, so I might have to order some for lunch now... I noticed they also have pretty solid lunch deals too. The rolls I ordered were priced accordingly to the taste and quality. Can't wait to try more of the menu!

2 Dinner bentos - top: chicken teriyaki with the yummy yummy roll, bottom: chicken katsu with sashimi

Oh em gee, besides being a chicken wing connoisseur, I am also a chicken teriyaki connoisseur too. I looooove me a good teriyaki spot. I'm still working on my rotation with at least 3 spots, right now I have 2 and this one is included. Coming back to WA I was really looking forward to having access to teriyaki. I've been to many places and WA hands down is the spot for teriyaki. Happy Teriyaki is a def go to. I go back and forth between getting rolls and the bento. You can't go wrong here. The vibe of this place has an old school teriyaki feel. The food, from the sauces to the freshness of the fish is chef's kiss. Also, the BEST salad dressing from a teriyaki spot as of now. Don't sleep on it! They have it bottled, get yourself one before you leave. The consistency and taste elevates iceberg lettuce like no other! I love the crunch from the katsu and the portions are great. I need to veer off into the Chinese food menu because I hear that's also bomb. So that'll be my next thing I order when I go there again. The service is great as they check on you frequently. I know Fife is random and it's worth a detour off I-5 especially if you're stuck in the Fife traffic #iykyk

More expensive than I'm used to ($50 after tip) being from the south, but a good food and a wide variety

I was told (among other dissatisfied responses) that they spoke with the server. Not once did they ask where we were seated, so how could you know where we were seated, to know whom exactly of your staff to have that talk with? Very poor encounter from management, and I see why their employees are no different!!

(FYI, for weekends and holidays, you'll be charged the dinner price all day). Since it was our first time, our server kindly explained how the ordering system works. You place your sushi orders through one phone with a limit of 15 items every 15 minutes. Drinks and refills are recommended to be ordered directly through your server so they don't take up item slots. Even if you order less than 15 items, you still wait the 15 minutes before placing another round. It sounds a little confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty simple! One of the cutest parts of the experience was having our food delivered by a little robot server with a cat face. Just make sure to grab the food from the section glowing blue so you don't accidentally take another table's order. Super fun and honestly memorable! By the time we were getting full, my family joked that the cat face looked menacing, because we were hoping no more food would be brought to our table lol. The orders don't all arrive at the same time and some can be delayed, so I'd suggest somewhat trying to keep track of your orders if you don't want to go overboard. The sashimi was delicious and the portions are HUGE, so definitely pace yourself because they do charge for leftovers. My son got a little too excited and overordered, so we ended up paying the leftover fee. However, I was genuinely impressed that Sumo Sushi actually allows you to take leftovers home, even with the fee included. I mean, you'll have to pay the fee either way, but I've never been to an AYCE sushi restaurant that allowed leftovers as takeout before. I really respect how serious they are about reducing food waste. They also have a small buffet section you can grab already prepared/cooked food from while waiting for your sushi orders. My absolute favorites were the miso soup, seafood boil(?), and the tempura fish that lives rent free in my head (I should have asked if I could order that fish for takeout!). They also had other hot foods, meats, and seafood options that were tasty. The dessert section was more basic (flan, jello, fortune cookies, etc.), so I skipped dessert this time (besides the fortune cookies hehe). The service, in general, was fantastic. While we were dining, a child nearby celebrated a birthday with their family and the staff went ALL OUT singing happy birthday with light-up decorations and so much energy. It was adorable and way more effort than most restaurants put in. My only small critique is that the "French Fries" listed on the menu are actually sweet potato fries. They tasted good, and I normally like sweet potatoes, but it definitely caught us off guard because it wasn't what we expected. When we left, the staff kindly said goodbye to us, including an older gentleman near the door who consistently seemed focused on customer service and even asked if we wanted condiments packed with our leftovers. We had such a lovely experience and I would consider Sumo Sushi as probably one of the better AYCE sushi spots in the area. We'll definitely be back!

It was Father's Day, so of course it was busy. But the food was subpar, it came out in indefinable intervals, and we weren't really checked on at all. The sushi - when it finally showed up - was good, but the grilled beef was fatty and greasy. The Chicken 'Katsu' was soggy. Some items - despite taking what seemed like forever to arrive - felt and tasted like they'd been sitting under a heat lamp for too long. Horrible experience for $100. We won't be back.

My broth was pretty quality also, but could habe used a slight bit more flavor in my opinion. After finishing, my biggest takeaway was: how has this place managed to stay open for so long? Environment: The place is clean, and both the sushi counter and the freshness of the ingredients are evident to the eye. The chefs' uniforms are also very neat. Taste: Sorry, it's hard to put into words! I ordered the lunch combo. The server asked how I wanted my beef done, and I said medium rare would be fine. But the beef was really tough! The tempura was okay. My friend had the pork cutlet rice bowl--the cutlet wasn't crispy, and the sauce was poured directly on top instead of being served on the side as we requested. So neither of us finished our food and we left. Fun fact: Tempura, though it's deep-fried, actually has the second-lowest calorie count among all Japanese dishes. So what's the lowest? Sorry, I forgot. A long time ago, Japan was considered the end of the continent, so many things that made their way there were seen as reaching the ultimate destination. As a result, the Japanese would thoroughly study everything that came--whether it was swords, food, tea ceremony, etc.--which eventually gave rise to what we now call craftsmanship or the spirit of mastery.

The cabbage rolls are delicious, the meatballs are fantastic, and their fresh-baked breads and pastries are some of my favorites in the area. That being said... I made the mistake of coming here on a Saturday afternoon. First, the parking lot. Wow. It took me probably 10-15 minutes just to find a parking spot. There simply isn't enough parking for the number of people that come here on weekends, so everyone is circling the lot waiting for someone to leave. Then, once you finally find a space, people don't leave enough room to get in or out because traffic is coming from every direction. If driving stresses you out, I'd honestly recommend visiting during the week instead. Monday through Friday around lunchtime has always been a much easier experience for me. Inside was just as busy. The deli counter had a huge line, and the store was packed with people. It was difficult to move around because shoppers were constantly walking in front of each other without much awareness of those around them. None of that is really the store's fault--it just speaks to how popular they are--but it definitely made for a stressful visit. The reason I stopped in this time was to finally try some of the desserts, and I'm so glad I did. The honey cake was absolutely incredible and easily my favorite. I'll definitely be buying that again. I also tried the Spartak cake, which was good, but the honey cake stole the show for me. I couldn't decide on one of the mousse cakes because they all looked amazing, so I asked the employee behind the counter to pick her favorite. She recommended the mango mousse cake, and she was right--it was delicious. The white chocolate shell gives way to a light, tangy mango mousse with actual pieces of mango inside. It was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully made. The only downside is the price. The mousse cakes are roughly palm-sized and around $10 each. While they were very good, I finished mine in one sitting, whereas the honey cake and Spartak lasted me much longer and cost less. Overall, I absolutely recommend this market. The food, bakery, and hot deli are excellent, and I'll definitely keep coming back. My only advice is simple: avoid Saturday afternoons if you can. You'll probably enjoy the experience a whole lot more.
