So, placed a to-go order online via their website... fairly easy to do. Went to pick it up... I guess I should have checked the bag- rookie mistake, though I'm not a rookie, just in a hurry. We ordered Lettuce wraps- spicy, some kind of noodle dish- again spicy, and veggie spring rolls. First off- NO Lettuce for my lettuce wraps!!! Tried to call them 3 times & no one answered. Everything was tasteless.... plus they use MSG in everything! I wish these cooks knew how to make food that actually had flavor & tasted good without the need to add MSG. We asked for spicy & got some jalapenos. The lettuce wraps (minus the lettuce that I didn't get) was the weirdest I have ever seen. Ground chicken with a few sliced red bells peppers & 3 jalapenos... that's it! I do not reccommend the wraps, nor the crispy noodle chicken dish my husband got. We keep trying this place out because we are so limited with good asian food (or any asian food) in these parts & we keep being dissappointed... 3 strikes & we are out. We won't be back. It was my first time to eat from this restaurant. My adult daughter and I ate inside. I enjoyed the "Happy Family" dish. It was full of fresh vegetables as well as good protein of shrimp, chicken and beef in a nice savory brown sauce. Fried rice came on the side which was tasty enough. My daughter ordered the Pho Tai Chin (rare eye round, brisket), She LOVED it! For an extra treat, we ordered four Crab Rangoons which didn't disappoint at all. Service was quick and order came out soon enough. We ordered a little after 1:00 PM today right after the rush hour. Had we been earlier, we would have had to wait for a table. As it was, the restaurant had cleared and made for a delightful quiet lunch. The restaurant is spacious enough. The back wall is adorned with gold looking cats that all have moving arms. This decor seems a bit much, but it's not a distraction; just not something that this old man is accustomed too. All in all, it was a very good first time visit and we will be returning soon. Well, I ordered food about two hours ago. Needless to say it was not worth it at all. My daughter thought it was just ok. My husband said the orange chicken from Panda Express is better. That says a lot to me all on its own, and then my potstickers came with 6 potstickers and NO SAUCE. Who wants dry potstickers? Never in my life have I ordered potstickers and got no sauce at all. Just 6 potstickers by themselves. I didn't even eat dinner. What a waste of $40. I wish I could go back and not buy food from there, save $40 and go some where else. Still the most decent and consistent Chinese place in Liberty Hill. Pretty good lunch special, food over all is good. We get take out for dinner quite a bit, they need to be better about providing sauce cups and packets without having to be asked for, for example if I'm getting a bunch of egg rolls then sweet and sour should automatically be included. Let me start off by saying I love Happy Wok and my family does enjoy their food! With that being said, today I ordered the Pho Tai which normally comes with jalapeños. I wanted extra and I added them AND PAID FOR THEM through the app. I walked in shortly after to pick up my pho and because I have had previous issues in the past with this I asked the host/waitress if they added the extra jalapeños that I added. She replied yes and so I went home. I got home and not only did I not have the extra jalapeños but I was only given 1 1/2 jalapeños. I tried to call several times before closing and got no answer. We will still be returning because we like Happy Woks food, but if you do ever order anything to go or online please please please make sure you check it before you leave. We visit here fairly often because it's convenient between school and home for the evening. Service is quick and mostly friendly. Most of the food is quite good. Very good eggrolls very good General Tso's chicken and sesame chicken. Phad Thai is average to good most times. Our big negative Sadly, though = Egg drop soup and also Lo Mein they are amongst the worst we've ever had. But overall; we are glad to have this restaurant in our neighborhood. There are several items we really like; but occasionally some items fall short. Maybe it depends on who is cooking that day. ? I would say you just have to find what you like from here and find other places for those other items. I've been to Happy Wok dozens of times on my lunch break. If you are looking for good Americanized Chinese food (not so much the authentic Cantonese/Szechuan/etc. cuisine), this is a great spot which is what I'm basing my review on. As far as I know, it's the only Chinese restaurant in Liberty Hill. For a ~$10 lunch special that includes an entree, rice, soup, and egg roll, the meals are a bargain with generous portion sizes. You'll have plenty of leftovers to pack home. Their egg drop and hot and sour soups hit the spot. Don't sleep on the more authentic Vietnamese dishes like Bo Luc Lac (shaken beef) and Hu Tieu Ap Chao (panfried rice noodles). The steak from the Bo Luc Lac is super tender! I think their Bo Luc Lac is even better than Sunflower in Austin. One small critique I have is that the food can be a bit saltier side, so I ask them to use less salt on my orders which is perfect for my personal taste. Their new location is very clean. Service is quick and efficient. If you're in a hurry during the lunch rush, you won't be waiting too long for your food. This is a family-owned business. 5star take out for sure - it's close and everyone gets what they want. We order takeout here regularly and thought to dine in on a Friday evening as a way to get out of the house. Parking was somewhat full but not an issue. On Entering no staff were up front - fair number of tables seated but majority of tables dirty with stacked plates. We found a table that was not dirty and order summer rolls and took our time with the menu. Rolls were fresh and what we ordered. Decided on Pho and Szechuan chicken. The take out orders flowed like a river - people coming and going. Front of house not so much. Sesame chicken arrived .. sent back for Szechuan. Pho arrived no issue. My feeling it was not well written on the order (yes paper :-) or just a stress reaction . The manager came out and spoke to the two waitress about clearing/cleaning the tables. To be fair they also handle payment, take out, and running table orders as well as cleaning - a tall ask. Get a feeling they have not connected seating to tips as yet. We take our time and eat well. The food was good - the Szechuan chicken spot on. The pho choices limited but well executed. As we readied to leave the rush was clearly over seated customers where few (yes the tables were clean at this point) and take out had slowed. Dine in was more like a lunch. Of course - eating out - No dishes is nice and the food is good. Personally there are better Pho choices but it served well as the quality was high. Overall high marks in freshness, food readiness and a general menu to address wide tastes. Plus located in Liberty Hill a growing community! I tried the chicken vermicelli bowl and wonton soup. Wonton soup was fairly average and a bit small for $3.50 but good. The vermicelli bowl was great! There was a generous amount of well sauced chicken and the overall portion is huge! Plenty of veggies, good flavor and it was brought out pretty quickly. Totally would try this place again. My one complaint is they charged me $1.00 for cilantro. First off I can get a whole bunch at the store for that price. Two- server should really give a heads up on up-charges.
