My girlfriend and I ate dinner here tonight for the first time and it was great. The other reviews are definitely correct when they say that the portions are HUGE! We started with the crawfish and shrimp fondue, and it was very tasty. Came out smoking hot and the bread used for dipping was perfect. For dinner my girlfriend ordered the grilled Tilapia and said that it came out perfect. Great seasoning and cooked great. I had the BBQ Shrimp for dinner. If you're not familiar with it, it's not your typical BBQ shrimp dish. It is actually jumbo shrimp cooked in a spicy lemon butter with the shells on, served in the same pan it was cooked in. It was incredible! We liked the sauce so much we actually took the rest of it home. So all in all it was a great place to eat dinner. We left there around 7 and the place was getting packed! I got a shrimp po-boy and fries take-out. The po-boy is just a sandwich with shrimp and vegies. There's no remoulade or tartar sauce! It's just a little oily from the cooked onions and peppers. It's like a crime aginst the po-boys! The fries are plain. They probably have cajun seasoning at the tables but it's not provided for take-out. I guess I should have asked for it. This is the best thing that has happened to Tyler in a long time. Parking lot packed but still seated us immediately. Server was prompt and friendly. Food was put like lightning and it was insane. Took my family to eat here about one month ago. We thought the food was great and affordable considering the portions that you get. We had an appetizer of onion rings, a fried chicken/fish plate with grits, fried catfish with red beans and rice, and we finished it off with bread pudding. Let me tell you- this was way too much food, we ended up taking quite a bit of it home. The fish and chicken were very flavorful, the grits were the best I've had. The dessert was fresh made and colossal, it fed a family of five with some left over. My only (minor) complaints were that the music was cranked way up and that the service staff didn't seem too thrilled to be there. This was right after they opened so maybe they have worked some of these kinks out by now. Overall great experience and we will certainly be back. read more

While in Tyler for my dad's knee surgery, my mom and I were ready to get out of the hospital and grab a bite of dinner before going back to the hotel. I took a look at yelp and at the top of the list consistently was Happy's Fish house. Also, while in the waiting room of the hospital, I over heard a man telling a lady about how good Happy's was for good freshwater fish and fix'ens. So, with that knowledge we set out to find Happy's. Happy's fortunately was very close to the hospital. We were lucky, we hit it at just the right time. It seemed the parking lot was thinning out as we arrived. I was impressed by the ambiance of the restaurant, it reminded me of an old fishing vessel with nets and mermaids hanging around. We were welcomed as soon as we walked in the doors. After being seated we ordered some tea, sweet for me and half and half for my mom. Our waitress was very helpful and explained the menu to us. I recall ordering shrimp and fish while my mom ordered the fish. Our plates were full, with sides of coleslaw, hushpuppies, and french fries. The fish was very tasty, thin cut and crisp with the perfect amount of salt and pepper in the batter. Our experience was so good while we were there, that when we went back a month later for my dad's follow up visit, we insisted on taking him there for a lunch. He was also impressed and the staff was very helpful and accommodating of his knee issues. Happy's is a must stop and eat when in Tyler. read more

This is a fun place! Nicely decorated . While sitting there enjoying my meal i kept having this feeling we had the gulf coast behind us. All that was missing was a sea breeze! The service was great anything we needed appeared quickly. The food. I had a cheeseburger. It was one of the i have ever had! Tasted as if it came of a charcoal in the backyard! Simply amazing! Nice and moist full of flavor. My wife had the rice and gumbo. She enjoyed as well. I look forward to going back soon. read more

My wife and I ate here for breakfast when we were house hunting in Tyler and had an amazing meal. The coffee was delicious. After we got moved we went back once for lunch and once for dinner and had a great meal with excellent service both times. We will be back! After my husband and I took our fall pictures we came here for breakfast, we never had the breakfast and wanted to try it. Me: I had the pancake breakfast with bacon and Cajun potatoes. I will never go to IHOP for pancakes again. The cakes were hot and had the best taste. I served them with pecan syrup and that was even better then IHOP. I had the coffee and it was served in a cute little cup. They don't have flavored creamer, which was a bummer, but it was good coffee. Husband: he had the shrimp and grits and he stated they were good and we're better then metro diner in Jacksonville, FL which is like his measurement for good shrimp and grits. Service was still good as usual and we found parking right away for 10am on a Saturday morning. ***We brought my sister and brother-in-law here recently and they were wishing there was one in the DFW area! read more

I went there for an event last night and the greeters up front were super rude. We had a reservation but they claimed they couldn't find it. They said it would be an hour wait even though the restaurant was almost completely empty. People who came in after us were seated immediately. My wife and I visited Happy's in Tyler this evening and were really disappointed. First, the service was slow and there were not that many customers ( 7 PM). My wife ordered the Senior Breakfast and would you believe, it did not include Toast!!Everyplace else that serves Breakfast does. I ordered a larges Seafood Gumbo. $16.29 and it had at the most 5 shrimp and 90% Sausage. The flavor was good though! We are Tyler residents and doubt very seriously that we will return. read more

Delicious breakfast! Big omelette overflowing with delicious melted cheese. The omelette was soft and delicious. The breaded fish is decent as well but the breakfast is great. The restaurant is filled with colorful decorations and the waiting staff was superb. read more

First time to visit. Food was very good and service was excellent. We ordered different meals and different sides so we could sample lots of items. Boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, fried catfish, hushpuppies, coleslaw, dirty rice, creole potatoes, onion rings and red beans and rice were all delicious. Sounds like a ton of food! We ordered the lunch baskets that come with an entree, coleslaw, hushpuppies and your choice of two additional sides. The servings were certainly more than eno After eating here a few times we returned with guests. Of course we had told them the food was excellent only to be proved completely wrong on this visit. Four out of the five people in our party ordered boiled shrimp. HUGE mistake. The shrimp were so overcooked they were tough, rubbery and impossible to peel. The hushpuppies were burned and the red beans and rice were soupy and bland. Overall a very embarrassing situation since we had been so complimentary of this place. Went there last Saturday for a late lunch and a smiling hostess greeted us immediately, holding the door open for us as we entered. We were seated quickly and our server showed up immediately despite the fact that the place was fairly busy at 1:30. She took our drink and appetizer orders and whisked off while we admired the casual New Orleans/Cajun style decor. Our appetizer of boudin and crab balls came almost immediately, piping hot from the kitchen. And, ooooh, they were so good! The boudin balls were light and crispy and oozing melted cheese from the middle. The crab balls were crispy, flavorful and not at all greasy. Then came the only hitch...a pretty long wait for the rest of our food. However, the waitress came out after about 20 minutes and apologized, indicating there had been a mixup in the kitchen and our food would be right out. She ALSO said the manager was comping us for the appetizers to compensate for the extra wait time. Impressive, huh? Moments later our food came and, OMG, did it look good. My husband got the grilled shrimp with fresh veggies, dirty rice and corn. He said the shrimp was as good as he has had anywhere. Plenty of sides - he was happy. I got the 1/2 and 1/2 with fried shrimp and shrimp etouffe. The fried shrimp was enormous with a light, crispy breading and I devoured every morsel. The shrimp etouffe consisted of a rich, flavorful sauce but was a little skimpy on the shrimp (The Catch has better etouffe.) Still acceptable, though. Loved the Cajun potatoes and hot, crispy hush puppies. This place is definitely a do-over, despite a bit of slow service and the not terribly impressive shrimp etouffe. Again, another themed restaurant with very interesting (fun) décor. It was cool to look at all the old boat motors, lures, floats and especially the Corona-bottle chandelier they have. The catfish is among the best I've had in Tyler. Very yummy. Again, great service: personable, friendly, attentive. Kept our drinks straight and glasses straight and filled, orders were fast and correct, food was varied and popular with the diners across the board. read more
