Dan worked with us to build a top tier dodger for our Jeanneau 43DS sailboat. Since this is a deck salon model, we went for a medium profile design. Dan came out with his team and worked out a good height to keep windage down without sacrificing visibility. Proper supports and safety grab handles were also added. Since we did not want a full Bimini, he engineered a very effective awning that can connect to the dodger at anchor. Well done! He also made a full dodger cover, something I suggest to anyone since it can triple the lifespan of a dodger. I used Harbor Custom Canvas to do a complete enclosure on my flybridge. First of all, when they removed the canvas, they taped some plastic sheeting using standard packing tape on the flybridge. I will give them credit that they did have to pay a detailed to relive and wax the flybridge. He emailed me before the job was completed and asked me if I could pay it in full because he was hurting for cash and in exchange, he would make a front window cover for me. That part was fair and I agreed. The canvas had leaks in it and Dan wasn't returning my phone calls or wouldn't show up when he said he would to make the repairs. Not until I threatened to sue him did he show up. I have a visible ring camera on my flybridge and I could hear him and his worker talking crap about me and that I was going to sue them if they didn't fix the problem. A few other choice words they used as well. The canvas job was really a poor job and I still continued to have leaks but it wasn't worth trying to get him out there again. Now the whole front canvas is falling apart and I had someone else take a look at it and said that the canvas wasn't cut properly. It's really unfortunate that his work is so subpar and there is an obvious reason why he was hurting for cash. Buyer beware! read more

Terrible customer service, attempted to get a quote initially for an enclosure to connect to a hard top and subsequently for a full flybridge bimini top and enclosure. Spoke with Dan Loggan on 2 occasions who assured me would come and then provide a quote. Never showed up! Never returned calls after that. I have used Harbor Custom Canvas several times for my sailboat dodger/Bimini/connector piece and solar pockets for my Bimini. Never had a problem with them at all. The work is fantastic and Dan has always put a little extra into it to make it better than what I had in mind. The young lady in the office is always very friendly and helpful. When I bought my boat it already had Harbor Canvas for the bimini and dodger. So, since they were old and needed replacement, I figured I should call them first and assumed they would be eager to help a boat they already did that had their product all over it. Instead of eager I got disorganized and poor communication. Apparently if you get the mythical "Dan" he is great, but he is kind of a one-person show. If you manage to get hold of anyone else, they are going to "leave a message with Dan and he will call you" and guess what, he never does. Bottom line they are either so busy or so overworked and understaffed that they do not call prospective customers back. They do not follow up. They do not have anyone else to give estimates or make canvas but "Dan". I finally gave up. I am going with another provider. Its a shame. I really like the work I have on my boat, but I'll have new canvas and patches with another name on them now. Your loss Harbor Customs. read more

I wouldn't normally waste my time leaving a negative review, but seeing how much of my time Harbor Custom Canvas has wasted, here goes. Dropped off an awning for an estimate, it took close to a month to get that estimate. By the way, the estimate I got was just short of triple (3x) the price I got from someone else. Needless to say, I declined their services. When I returned to pick up my old awning cover, I got nothing but an incredulous attitude from the secretary. He told me I would have an estimate in a few days. After 6 days I left a message with the secretary, as he calls her, but 2 business days later I haven't had a follow up call let alone an estimate or even a revised eta. read more

Harbor Customer Canvas is the best boat canvas installer in Los Angeles and they are true to their estimate, very reasonable price and hard working. Harbor Customer Canvas came to my boat with crew and did a wonderful job. I was referred to Harbor Custom Canvas from a friend who replaced his fly-fishing bridge canvas enclosure and the owner Dan came highly recommended. I'm VERY HAPPY with my Biminis top enclosure, the slopping-cockpit cover and the dinghy cover from Harbor Custom Canvas. What I liked best about Harbor Custom Canvas is they provided a clear estimate and provided recommendations to improve the longevity such as more durable stitching, using hard plastic Strataglass that looks like real glass instead of that old flimsy clear plastic vinyl that scratches and can warp over time and to top it off, a simple cover to toss over the whole thing to keep it looking like new. I have had to replace my boat cover 2 times in 10 years and wish I came to Harbor Custom Canvas first... as the job they did will last twice as long as the other local shops that only used my old canvas as template which never fit right. Called for a quote 2 months ago and gave out all of my information and specifics over the phone. Was told that Dan would check out my boat and call me back. I can only assume that a full cockpit enclosure and sail covers was too small of a job on their priority list. At least a courtesy call would be nice. I've contacted them by e-mail and phone. They will not return my call. Seems that Harbor just randomly connects with customers rather than using a proper scheduling system. I had one company (canvas) call me back within 24 hours, those are the businesses that will get my business. It's 2020 guys, time to starting acting more professional and track your business. read more

Similar complaint to others. I dropped off one canvas panel for a hem repair and was told it would be ready by the end of the week. After three phone calls and FIVE WEEKS it is still not ready. I wonder if they let customers be late five weeks with their payments... Their web page says they have been in business since 1916. DAN @ Harbor Cistom Canvas is the man for canvas. We had all of our canvas replaced on our sailboat, added covers to our inflatable & rowing dingies and some special items covered as well. HCC did an excellent job. From the initial meeting Dan was proffesional, knowledgeable and friendly. My biggest concern was fit. I really didn't want them to use existing canvas as a pattern. Which they did not. Every thing was measured to fit. Just like a custom suit. My wife and I are very pleased with the craftsmanship and would recommend HCC for your canvas needs. read more

MIGHT BE GOOD IF THEY WOULD JUST SHOW UP. I see there are two five star reviews so far. Maybe Harbor Custom Canvas does good work. Unfortunately, they didn't give me a chance to find out. I called on a Saturday and spoke to Dan, who said he was the owner. We discussed a new cover for our dingy. We talked about exactly how it would be designed, and Dan told me it would cost about $700. I agreed the price was fair. Dan said he would go to our boat at the marina later that week to measure and then call with a final quote. Three weeks went by and he never called. Finally I called back and spoke with someone else. She took my name and number and said Dan would get back with me. That was a week ago, and so far Dan still hasn't called. Three days ago I hired a different canvas company. Two hours after my call they were on my boat, measuring the dingy. And they only quoted $400. read more

Harbor Custom Canvas had been unresponsive and I had every reason to be upset, but the owner, Dan, apparently searched for my phone number in his files (I was a returning customer), and left me a very professional, apologetic message. He explained that the company had been shorthanded and that this caused delays. He promised a quick remedy. When I called back and spoke to Alice, she was aware of the situation and told me how much Dan was disturbed about the negative review. I must say, I am impressed that a business cares so much about a poor review and am definitely willing to give them another chance. If I knew how to remove the negative post, I would do so. read more

As one of the other posts mentioned Harbor Canvas does good work. However, I think they are now too busy to really care about any one customer. When I inquired about getting a new enclosure made for our boat I just couldn't get Dan to come out. He kept saying they were very busy and when he did come out we would need to book it right away to make sure they could do it. After 4 weeks I gave up on trying to get him to bid on the job. But, I did need him to repair our cover he made 2 years ago and that didn't go any better. His front desk girl (Denise) kept saying they were too busy and it would take 3-4 weeks to repair a rip in the canvas. I couldn't imagine it would take more than an hour to place a patch on a 1/4" rip but I guess they are too busy to stand behind the work they do. There are some other shops that do equal quality work with much better customer skills than this. Dan has made three covers for me in the past but he won't be doing anymore work for us. read more
