My husband and I go to the store regularly. If he is looking for a specific tool, this is always his go to place, rather than the Home Depot. The store is large and has a great selection of most items. The items are also very reasonably priced. We appreciate that they have several store brands that allow for the opportunity to get the item you need at a better price than you might if you had to pay for a national brand, which are often overpriced. The staff are friendly and helpful. Today our cashier was Jessica and she was great. She even remembered us from previous trips to the store. If you are looking for a no-frills store to get quality tools and other home related items, definitely check them out. I was in desperate need of a drill and wasn't willing to pay the high prices for one for the little amount of time I was actually going to use it. Harbor Freight always pulled through for me in a pinch and I know have a drill that I will use, lightly. I came here looking for what I was looking for. I needed no frills, I just wanted the basic drill to do the job. Which was to just drill a few holes to hang something up. I found the most basic, plug in model they had and made my way up front to pay and go. Lord, I wanted to have a great experience at this location, but once I got into that line it all went out the window quicker than I was able to exit this store. The line at checkout was long, it snaked its way from the counters back up one of the aisles which you have to guess and play frogger with to figure out who really is the last person in line to join the line. This lined moved slower than a line at a DMV run by sloths. Why? Oh, it might be because they only had a two people running registers with one taking returns. They also allowed a break to be taken which then took that number down to one. This line moved as fast as a grease clog. When I finally got to the register it was a long process. The person working spoke so low that I couldn't hear half of what they said. I just wanted to pay and be on my way. To say this place is busy in an understatement. To point out they are sorely understaffed is obvious. But if you want a tool on the cheap that will do just as well as a more expensive one, this is your place. read more

Lots of bad reviews but I feel very differently. This place is awesome!!! Place is packed like crazy with cheap stuff!! You definitely get what you pay for but at HF their products are oftentimes about as good as name brands. At least for cheaper stuff. I went with a buddy and got some simple stuff: workshop rolling seat, eye protection, ear protection, and some floor mats. I've got a woodworking shop and I'm always needing those minor things. Decent selection for all of these items. Went away happy. Definitely be careful when buying large dangerous items like table saws. For not much more you can get name brand machines that definitely have more built-in safety stuff. But in general HF is great. Oh and this one is easy to get to, easy to find, and has a huge parking lot. And customer service was excellent. No problems at all; they easily answered all of our questions. read more

I have never been to harbor freight. I just bought a new company and I needed tools and equipment. I came with a list of things I needed after viewing everything online. I honestly had the worst customer service experience of my life. I couldn't find anyone to help me and asked several people before I finally found someone who they referred to as Mr. Anthony. Well, I am not sure why or more importantly how Mr. Anthony has a job. He was absolutely no help. I showed him the things I wanted and he said "oh that's on clearance. You won't find that in this store or any store in this area!" so I moved on to the rest of my list. As I searched for other items I ran into him several other times and he refused to show me where anything was. He would not assist me and when I asked him to please help me find a specific item he said every drill bit was on isle 1. After browsing for 10 minutes I was out of luck and asked again he said " if you can't find it there it's not in stock." I explained that online it says it was in stock and he said " they always say everything is in stock, but they are wrong in California!" I was flabbergasted. I just wasted 30 valuable minutes and I finally found what he said was not in the store. I then told him that his costumer service skills were lacking and that I really needed help. He said, " well I can't help you!" I explained that I would have to make a complaint because this was the most ludicrous situation that I have ever encountered. He said " well good luck with that." Needless to say, I ended up leaving and going to home depot and I was able to get the help I so desperately needed. read more

We like HF but often times we seem to encounter rude employees. Usually, we can get no help here. Yesterday an employee jumped from behind a box and harassed us about inspecting tools. We recovered and got far away from dude. Still like HF but they seem to hire more unstable employees than most. Got some great stuff though! read more

I love Harbor Freight, but this store has the worse customer service. 1 register open, almost 20 people in line. About 7 employees walking around and the manager don't see that line as a priority. Bought a Predator tiller/cultivator on sale from nearest HF (30 miles). Got it home: didn't work. Called Tech Support: They couldn't fix the problem so told me to take the tiller back to the store and exchange it. I checked the store's website, which had a banner ad saying they were restocked on tillers. Drove the tiller back. Was told there were no tillers at the store. (While informing me of this, the clerk took the opportunity to make a snide remark about my poor judgement in trusting what I read on their website.) I asked if I could leave the broken tiller and pick up a new one once they were in stock. Was told that I could not, that all I could do was get a refund on the tiller since I had already brought it into the store, that I would be charged a $40 "restocking fee" (for them to restock the broken tiller?), and that if I wanted to buy the tiller again, I could not get it at the sale price but would have to pay full price. I'll buy my tiller elsewhere. The sticker price might be higher, but in the end it'll be cheaper than being ripped off by HF. read more

This is your standard cheap tool Harbor Freight. Don't sleep on the tools made in Taiwan "Pro" tools. Their quality surpasses Chinese made ones. Surprisingly so as a matter of fact. It's the same stuff sold at any other big box store at 1/2 the price. This store has a stocking/inventory problem when it comes to basic things. 3/8 inch ratchets, 3/8 inch socket rails, sale items, etc. With the prices, I guess it's hard to keep up. Unfortunately they don't honor coupons from their website if they have a misprint. I went in for long reach jack that I've been eyeing for some time now. Found a coupon on harbor freight website but it wouldn't scan for this particular jack that stating "long reach". The guy at the cash register got and attitude at both me and his manager and wouldn't help. The manager was helpful trying to figure out why the coupon wouldn't work, search it by item number but the item number listed were for the standard low profile Daytona. I was very happy the manager was trying to help and being very polite to me . However she wouldn't honor the coupon. So wasted trip to closet HF, I guess I'll be going to Waldorf or Glen Burnie location for now on. read more

The customer service was bad until they found out I was trying to make a reasonably large purchase. The young lady at the counter actually waited on a person who walked up while I was staging waiting for her to finish with the customer before me. She knew she was skipping me because she told me that the line starts in aisle 6. No one was in line while I was standing there in front of her register. And aisle 6 was literally 2 feet to my right. That's why I didn't understand why she would look passed my and tell someone else to step forward. The guy at the register next to her, yep there were two registers and to employees both ignoring me the only customer standing in front of them, finally looked at me. I told him what I needed and he just stood there. I finally said, "Do you understand what I'm saying?" and he looked at me like he was high. I repeated what I was looking for specifically a 3 ton floor jack that was not low profile. Eventually he started helping me. Rung me up and sure enough charged me for a low profile jack. Thus was the first time I went into Harbor Freight. The deals are good but the service means that I'll be ordering my tools online or better yet through AMAZON. read more

The staff that I've dealt with have been helpful or at least tried to be helpful within the scope of their knowledge. So ya wanna build a deck, remodel a kitchen...... hell why not just build yourself a house from scratch. Well guess what...... you can and you could start right here at this place. All the tools you could ask for and more they have right here and best of all the prices just can't be beat. No they don't carry Dewalt but they'll have something similiar for less than half the price and does the job just fine... now don't you worry. The quality on their tools are from decent to quite good for the prices and another good thing is that if it breaks it only cost a couple of bucks so go ahead tear it on up, they be more than happy to sell you a new one. Just keep in mind though they are not a lumber yard nor do they sell kitchen counter tops or bathroom fixtures nor paint. Just as their name imply they are a tool company. I discovered this place through my brother who practically lives here. He is here every week and I can't really blame him either. If you need a butcher knife they got it.... a power generator they got that too and all sorts of things in between for home or auto to construction. Lots of pros shop here for all of their gear. If you don't see it well don't be a stick in the mud just walk up to one of the helpful folks working there and they'll be more than glad to assist. What's double nice about that is that it's not crazy crowed in there like a Home Depot or a Lowe's. This is more like your good old fashion corner hardware store that some of you might remember if you are old enough before the days of the big box fancy mega shop till you drop break your wallet stores. It is well worth the travel out to Laurel to get things that I need from here. They also have a store located in Gaithersburg that our very own Fenny L has written a great review for. Hubby and I "do" harbor Freight two or three times a year; honestly, I love this store. Today's trip was for punches; but as always, there were extra grabs. Today's extra grabs? A torque adapter for any standard ratchet - with adapters, a fire starter stone and those indispensable timers that you plug into lamps and fans and things. Previous "grabs"? Everything from our 4'x8' folding trailer that we bought a few years ago (assembly required) and the lights we put on it, to an arbor press and the replacement pump for the birdbath in our yard. Is this lifetime warranted high quality tools? No, but unless you are professional mechanic (I used to be one of those ASE certified people in a former life), this is decent quality for the money and a great place to buy a hammer, wrench, grinder, welder, knife, drill and bit set, stethoscope (mechanic type), air compressor and air tools, saw, light kit, flashlight, tweezers (mechanic type), wire brush, tin snips, scissors, etc, etc for the do-it-yourself. read more

This review is for the whole chain. I find the staff helpful by phone and in person when they aren't overwhelmed. The tools vary in quality but are generally on the low end for a good price which is fine for many apps, however I'll stick with better brands for tools I expect to last and those that spin at high speed like router bits. I also find their on line store behind the times. It takes them too long to ship, you are not informed if an item is on backorder, and you need to call to change or cancel an order. read more

So you are thinking about buying that HarborFreight Haulmaster trailer. You may want to factor in this factor: missing parts and replacement parts. My experience has been frustrating. Originally the anchor plates at the tow hitch were missing. Delivery took three weeks. Then I decided to order a spare hub for my spare tire. I asked if a castle nut was included, because either it was not on one spindle, or I lost it. Customer service said, yes, it comes with the castle nut. So I wait another 3 days to get my second tire installed. Hub arrives in a beat up box, and no castle nut. So I call customer service a third time, asking if they can sent a castle nut. They then reply that they cannot send a castle nut separately, but rather have to send it together with yet another hub assembly that I have absolutely no need for (I already upgraded to Xike bearings, so I probably have more than I will need for the life of the trailer). So this time I get the hub assembly, but the tape is loose on the box top, and I am thinking "not again". Guess what... still no castle nut. In the meantime I found a castle nut that fit, but spent hours filing deeper slots for the cotter pin. I was hoping to have a spare castle nut, but Harbor Freight let me down in a major way. I won't set foot in their store or buy another product. I am frustrated now that I could have spent a few hundred more and gotten a Malone trailer specifically set up to haul kayaks without all this hassle. read more

Very rude cashiers, even more rude manager to the point they both continued to make snide comments about me and other customers. The rudest and poorest customer service I have ever received over the phone! I called the store to find out if they actually had a wheelchair in stock, or whether it was an online only item. The Neanderthal who answered the phone, stuck the phone in my ear, when I asked him if he could actually go out into the store and check stock. I called back and talk to an absolutely wonderful lady named Sarah, and she told me that they had three wheelchairs at the end of aisle 3. I said my friend to go get one for me, and they gave him an open box item. When I opened it up, it was a much smaller wheelchair then the one advertised, and I could not fit in it. Not only did my friend end up having to go back to the store for a second time, but the lady, a different lady, refused to open up a different box, and see if they had the correct one. She was also horribly rude on the phone as well. I will make sure to avoid this store at all cost from now on! read more
