I was shopping at this location on Sunday, March 15, 2026 around 3 PM. I was looking for a steamer. I approached the manager and she was already busy with another customer and she politely helped the customer and helped me at the same time. Her name was Casey. Very well polished uniform was neat. Her store was very organized and clean, and she was very approachable and professional. I can't say enough of how great she was. I just got nothing but great energy from her. This is the place to shop at if you are trying to get decent tools or hardware for cheaper than the big box orange guys, because let's face it, you really don't need to shell out the big bucks when you are still figuring everything out. That said, there are still some misses, ahem their countersink drill bits, where you probably won't be a happy customer. Just remember the old adage that you get what you pay for. This location is also in a sketchy-ish location and you get the vibe with all their shoplifting prevention. But come on, if you're buying tools at a bargain price then this is far down the list of deterrents. Especially when you get a very similar experience at the orange big box guys. The costumer service given by Nicholas the manager was very unprofessional, I've being here two times to do a return and he keeps saying that they have no money to proceed with return with a bad voice tone, the cashier who was helping me at first was super helpful and I wish I could have gotten his name to write a great review about his costumer service but I got distracted by the bad service given by the "MANAGER" hopefully next time I come this incident don't come in my way again, people with that type of voice make you feel uncomfortable, not welcome to this store. read more

I visited the Story road location because I needed a watch repair kit. The manager who was bald and had glasses, Don't know what his name was because there were two of them. but he was rude and had a horrendous attitude. I would rather drive to a farther location than ever have to interact with him again. The watch repar kit i was looking for was not even in stock. So bad customer service and they don't stock their items. I also overheard him being rude to his employees while i was there. NOT COOL. Hi, but after "Phone Number" was the first thing I've heard at the cash register, I was confused and the cashier just repeated it again "Phone Number" while looking at the computer, not at me or my mom. Then I gave my phone number and he said "Name" and I was like what's this for? "Membership". I declined and said "Oh sorry I don't want to sign up right now. Maybe next time." Then he said in a bit of a sassy way "Ok, but without it, you cannot return this then." I replied back instantly along the lines with "it's okay, I expect this to break within months anyway and I'll need to replace it." Yah, I was not feeling good customer service vibes from him. Things can be handled better and it was definitely not how he did it. If he asked if I would like to sign up for membership, sure I'd sign up, I was actually thinking of it but how he did it, was not it. I keep repeating this because dang, that's not how you ask someone LOL. Maybe he wasn't feeling it today or something but shouldn't people already know not to put your stress upon others? Eh, idk. He also "seemed" to lie that without a membership, I cannot return my order, which confused me because I've never heard of a membership only return for a store. I looked online and Harbor has a "no question asked" return policy on all their products. On their website: RETURNING ITEMS PURCHASED IN STORE If for any reason you are not satisfied with an item purchased from Harbor Freight Tools, you may return the product within 90 days for a full refund or replacement, whichever you prefer. The limited warranty term is 90-day beginning on the date of invoice. You must provide the original receipt to receive an exchange or refund. However, I do see that it does state: The manager has the right to refuse returns of any item, at any time, for any reason, regardless of receipt So it looks like this place has the power, so for this store, no membership, no return. So technically, he didn't lie. I'd stay away from this store and find another friendlier place who'd accept returns and asks nicely if people want to sign up instead of forcing it upon its customers if you care about returns and a welcoming atmosphere. I'm only putting two star because my mom said just give them a chance, they will learn. I'd personally put one star but I'll just be good and be nice to my mom. I went to the east San Jose store for my first time. I looked on-line and showed I could find jewelers loupes there. Nope! Nothing like it . Just two empty shelves at the bottom . So that was a waste of time. Further, all they had was a grandpas magnifier and watch repair kit. But the thing that irked me the most was the employee that 'helped' direct me to that empty shelf. He was a few aisles away but when I asked him the question, he seemed to roll his eyes at me accentuated with a big deep sigh. He dragged his feet three aisles to point out that shelf. Very bad customer service, I came to get a propane regulator and before I ask a team member I was looking for this item because the store it's kinda small so I thought was going to be easy to find it, but after a 15 minutes searching for it I asked to the employee rich and he just told me it's agains the wall I mean which wall? If there is 3 walls and each wall has a lot of items on it, this person even didn't look the picture I was showing on my cell phone and he didn't even look at me. I understand everyone it's busy, but I knew it was gonna take 30 seconds to help me to find this thing. Well let me explain. I was a very satisfied customer for years at your Story Rd facility in San Jose. I will no longer enter that establishment. I walked in and could not find a certain item. I went up to the register and saw two employees, ( Gabriel and Edger). I ask Edger after he was finishing up with a customer that if they had a certain item. He looked at me and turned around to write something down. I was still waiting for an answer. No answer. The other cashier Gabriel asked me what I needed, while Edger was just standing there with nobody at his register. I just turned around and went to look for the item myself. Shortly after another employee who was working on the floor went to retrieve the item from the back of the store. That employee took the item to the front register. After my shopping I proceeded to the front and saw my boxed item at Edgar's register. There was 2 people in front of me. When I arrived at the register to pay Edger decided to leave his register and not say a word that he was closing out. So I proceeded to Gabriel's register. Gabriel observed on what was going on, but kept quiet. I really would suggest sending Edger back to training, so long time customers like myself would not be putting up with that type of attitude. read more

This is the best place for cheap tools; that's why it gets 5 stars. I don't come here for Klein made in USA hand tools for electrical or telco lineman work, because those are premium tools. Just like I don't come here for Dewalt, Makita, Milwaukee etc. power tools that I can get on sale at HD, Lowes, or Amazon. You will get cheap but decent tools here it you do not need professional level tools. Although some professionals will use Harbor Freight tools depending on the application. Harbor Freight false and misleading adverting practices continuer. 30% store wide for items under $20. So a maximum savings of $6. The item I wanted was $14, a savings of $4.20. Harbor Freight cashier refused to honor the coupon. I explained that I understood this requirement if it was Thursday and the coupon was only availble to "members." Today was Saturday the second of their supposed 3 day sale (Fri, Sat, & Sun.) to the public. I pointed out that there was nothing on the coupon that indicated that I had to give a valid working phone number to used coupons. The cashier said that no phone number no coupons was the policy at this store. Harbor Frieght is back on my very short list of avoid like COVID 19 all because they refused to honor a coupon that had a retail value of $4.20. This place had what I was looking for and was a little closer to me than the Blossom Hill location even though that one was slightly bigger than this location. If you're looking to buy tools like car jacks or welding masks or drills, then this place most likely has what you're looking for. The employee that I interacted with was nice and helpful. The parking lot was limited as it was shared with other businesses in the small plaza. I was in and out on ten minutes with my new pole saw. Sign up for their coupons, I saved twenty percent. Now I don't have to drive clear across town to get to a Harbor Freight store. Closer to 2.5 star. My first experience with this brand and specifically this store was not satisfactory. After luring me to their store with their advertisement, they did not even have the product in stock. No willingness to substitute or compromise. Showed me the super tiny fine print that was barely readable. Consumed my time and fuel to go there and got nothing for it. I saw other things to buy, but did not buy since I became unhappy. I tried ANOTHER store and had a vastly different experience. The store manager understood and was willing to provide the product when they got it shipped the next day, even though the offer expired that day. That was nice. I did not go to purchase it, but it was nice that he offered that. Have not gone back as of yet to the Story road store. I may give them another try, as I did not even know they existed, and I'll compare them to Home Depot, Lowe's, and Ace. My advice is to call the store before you go there to check on item availability. One good thing is that they do answer their phone. read more

I bought the expensive 5,000 watts jubilee power inverter with the extra 2 years extension warranty. The machine broke down in 4 months after I bought it. I come back to get the new replacement and they make me buy another 2 years extension warranty. This is not right, since I did bought the 2 years warranty already. So what is the point of buying the 2 years warranty, when I only used it only 4 months and have to buy another 2 years warranty? Or else my new replacement will not have warranty coverage. By far the most incompetent worker I have ever interacted with on the phone. I called in to see if they had any neodymium magnets. The worker had no idea what I was asking for. Every time I said neodymium, he would hear something else. I even had him repeat after me phonetically and he still couldn't say it right. Me "I need neodymium magnets, do you guys carry any?" Store has no shopping carts: How do you expect your customers to purchase items with no shopping carts. I walked in today with a large list of miscellaneous items and asked the front counter where are the shopping carts. They told me all they had was one cart and someone was using it. I explained to the acting branch manager that I had several items and that I need a Cart to carry all my items all in one shot and I was pretty much dismissed. I became upset and asked the branch manager to get all my items so he can feel how the customers feels with no shopping cart. I was then told he wouldn't get my items and that I had to help. Is that because he couldn't carry all the items to the front of the register? He then pulled out a tool cart and proceeded to pick up some of my items while my coworker and I picked up the other half of the items. I left the store with a purchase of over $400 dollars with several items and supplies. If your on disability and need help with carry merchandise or depend on strong customer service...then this store isn't for you. read more

Absolutely love this Harbor Freight location. There is always some kind of sale going on. Especially near or on holidays. The store is well organized and the staff is friendly. The only thing that sucks about this location is the parking lot. It's crowded getting in and out of the shopping center to get to any of the stores here. This is the cleanest Harbor Freight I have ever been in to, even the bathrooms were clean! The store was well organized, and the shelves were fully stocked. The staff was pleasant, upbeat, and very helpful. The knowledge of where items were within the store was impressive (the woman working the register was able to direct people to what they were looking for with impressive accuracy). I typically don't expect much from HF, and given the location of this store, I was expecting the worst, but this location was by far the best one I have been into. Always a good experience here to pick up cheap tools that I will only use a few times. Only downside is the check out line. Yes, there may be two registers opened, and only 1 line that feed into them. But, there's always someone that will jump the line and walk up to the next open register and cutting everyone in line. Bought the Variable Speed Oscillating Power Tool and ONLY used it twice and the power switch broke. The tool itself is a unique and versatile tool but the quality of the switch failed. After spending an hour on the phone, Harbor Freight was UNWILLING to give me a break even though the tool exceeded the warranty period. You get what you pay for is the lesson learned. read more
