Horrible customer service. Went to pay and they had two registers open. Someone was buying a cart full of items at register 1. Me and another customer was waiting at register 2 as the young lady was wiping some spilled water with paper towels. We both waited as she was almost done. She looked at us a few times yet she didn't say a word. She then proceeded to do one more round of wiping still not saying a single word to me. She then proceeds to say something to the man on register 1 and then walks away. The photo shows both register lights on. Why we asked the elderly man on register 1 about no one helping him ring up all the customers, his reply was "it's always been like that". Would give this store 1 star but Eric was a professional. However I wouldn't shop here again, plus the prices are 2x that of homedepot. read more

The similarities continue with like color scheme, employee uniforms and even the layout of the store. Unfortunately, the high prices that came with the old OSH continues⁠--but without the fantastic service that used to make us put up with them. They've gone away from friendly older folks that were happy to help, to hiring young adults that are more than happy to ignore you than be of assistance. Regardless, this is still a nice clean, well-stocked store that should suit most, if not all, your hardware needs. I arrived in the morning and was approached by Gary, who helped me with gardening questions. I ended up purchasing the items he suggested and I am happy with my purchase. Gary was friendly, helpful, and professional. Maria helped me choose a toilet lid set and she was very helpful. She also informed me of their buy one get one free clearance sale items. She approached me and asked how she could help. Without asking, she remained with me until I made my decision after comparing my options. Overall, experience superseded any expectation I had about customer service there. I am glad there are still people who do great work and share great customer service and care. read more

I came by today to exchange the lid for a trash can that didn't fit. I walked in and requested to exchange the lid for the right size. I waited for about 10 minutes for the cashier and the manager on duty to tell me they couldn't return it (I wanted an exchange). After telling them that I grabbed the lid directly under the trash can (common practice that lids of trash cans are usually right under the trash can that matches) and it didn't fit the manager finally agreed to exchange the lid. He came up to the register and basically walked me to the trash can section to get the correct lid. When I showed him the lid I grabbed was right under the trash can I bought he grabbed a lid that was several trash cans away. He stated this was the correct one and showed me that it fit my trash can. He seemed really annoyed with having to make the exchange. Even though the visit did not start off on a good note I decided to check out the inventory in the nursery. The nursery was bare. There was very limited indoor plant and pots inventory. If today would have been my first visit I wouldn't return due to all of this. The manager made it so difficult to exchange my trash can lid. I can only imagine how it goes with a return. Pretty disappointed with the service on this visit. Specially because I know they can do better. read more

First: Service is great. A Classic "The Nordstrom of Hardware/Gardening - if they don't have it - you don't need it store." Are impressed with the size and the fact that each aisle is beautifully organized. In addition, from the minute you walk in - staff is extremely smart and helpful. We recently Met the Manager....accommodating and smart. Turns out the majority of the staff is very helpful and patient.( Note: Gardening Dept is a do it yourself) I needed help with tiny battery for key fob and the gentleman fixed it in a mere minute. The store staff are very helpful in trying to find the things you're looking for. But the store has limited supply. The choices are not as extensive as Home Depot or Lowes. I was not able to find the parts for the water purifier connection, they didn't carry it. The staff are great though. read more

Was here to return two of the pots I purchased. One of the pots didnt have the barcode, the cashier, Liz didnt even try to look for the pots in the system or ask her coworker to look for it so instead i had to do her job and look for the same exact pot in the inventory. Liz processed the transaction and told me that my credit card cannot be found in their system. I asked to talk to the manager, James, hoping he would be helpful. Had a 30 seconds conversation with him and I can see he grew very irritated. Same error occurred, the system can't find the exact same pot they have in store so they couldn't process my return. Because I dont have a receipt they can't issue any type of refund. I feel like the manager have failed to do his job as a manager for costumer service. He didn't even try to see my point of view, he automatically tell me this is their policy and shoo me away. I have learned my lesson and never to buy anything from here. OH BOY OH BOY AM I EXCITED TO WRITE THIS I want to congratulate the exceptional Ryan of Outdoor Supply Hardware. Never in my life did I believe that I, William Fahey, would write a yelp review. This is now my second ever yelp to inform you all that yes, this place sucks and is shady. After 3 weeks, the great and powerful Ryan was finally able to inform me that I was in the right. Being so commonly in the wrong, (wrong business, wrong priorities, wrong practices) Ryan must have assumed this would be a great relief to me. Well, when you know you are in the right it is actually quite annoying to have the party that injured you explain how and why they injured you. Particularly when you cannot believe their "how" of the situation. Apparently my transactions were linked to phony names because this company uses, get ready for this one, ONE FAKE NAME for all cash and card transactions without a connected account. What a delicious practice, in all of my years of service I must never have heard of it on account of it being a lie. I saw multiple names, so I know it's a lie. The real cream of the crop, I am finally afforded the chance to come in and claim my return and undue the damage from the "misinformed employee". I know that no company cares about it's customers after Covid gave you an excuse to suck at your jobs, but throwing your employees under the bus actually makes me wish prison time on you. Your employee was not misinformed of your fake policies, and if they were... who's job is it to inform them about your fake policy? If your employees are failing it is because you are failing. In closing, there are two stores that offer identical products with additional services across the street. All I have wanted since that day was for people to not spend their money at Outdoor Supply Hardware. I threw away the hose and gave up on the return immediately, because I knew if I could change one persons mind about walking into this POS establishment it would be worth more to me than all the money in the world. I am SO happy that this place has finally made a return! Being located so close to where I live, it's pretty dangerous when you're addicted to buying plants... I submitted the following to the Store Manager of the San Jose - Silver Creek store at 1751 E Capitol Expressway, San Jose, California, 95121, the evening of the event. I was DISCRIMINATED AGAINST AS PROTECTED CLASS: A DISABLED PERSON. And let me tell you, I am very broken. I RECEIVED NO RESPONSE FROM THE MANAGER WHATSOEVER: Since this OSH location opened, my wife and I have been there dozens upon dozens of times. It is also CRITICAL that make it UBANDANTLY clear that I am VERY Disabled. 90% of the time we go to OSH, I have my Service Dog with me. I also walk with a cane. I NEVER leave my home w/o wearing my backpack on my back. This Backpack contains a fee item that, a dire emergency will LITERALLY SAVE MY LIFE! It is of CRITICAL NEED NOT because of my Disabilities, and there are over 20. I have been Clinically Dead 3 times, 3 Stroked, DVT's, Fallen many x's, Vertigo, Vestibular Migraines, etc. My Backpack is, in the purest sense of the phrase, MY LIFELINE!! In all the time I have come into this OSH, I have greeted with smiles, have a good day, let us know if we can do anything, you have a beautiful dog. As we walked in, there were 2 gentlemen BLOCKING entry into the store proper. I do not know the name of the younger gentleman, but his boss, who late, when I asked to speak with the Manager, claimed that he was the Manager. His name is Miguel Gutierrez . Nearly simultaneously, they told me that I had to leave my Backpack at the Service Desk. At this point I told him that I had NEVER ONCE had to do this in the past. Angrily, Miguel proceeded to tell me that I had to do it today. I told him that I was Disabled, and that my Backpack contained a number of things that, should I find myself in distress, will LITERALLY SAVE MY LIFE. I told him that ADA protect my Rights to use this back as it is CRITICAL TO MY CONTINUED WELL BEING. He said he was just following company policy. So, I told him that ADA was Federal LAW and that NO COMPANY POLICY rises to a level as to supersede it. Miguel cut me off midsentence. Again, insisting that I leave my Backpack at Customer Service. He went on to tell me that if I did not want to do that, I was welcome to leave. Needless to say, I was furious. At this point we had been at the door, just inside, near the Customer Service Desk for nearly 25 minutes. He decided to let go in. I did not find what I was looking for after about 15 minutes. So my wife and I started to leave. As we were attempting to leave, I see Miguel coming at me with another gentlemen, who I learned was Antonio Galvan, Assistant Store Manager. He IMMEDIATELY TORE into me. I reminded him that I as Disabled and my protections under the ADA Statues were sacrosanct. Angrily he said he was just following store policy. He said if I came in again, he would have a Store associate follow me while I was inside. INSULTING, VISUALLY DISCRIMINATORY!! Because I have disabilities that require me to have certain items he was going to have an employee shadow me as though I was a known Thief? Unbelievable and INDEFENSIBLE!!! read more

I was trying to return a weeding hoe that broke while gardening. I have the receipt and it's been less than 30 days from the day I bought it. The cashier that was helping me was trying to get hold of a Manager but no one was responding to her. Though one of the Manager named Lupe showed up but she said she is going home and was clocking out from one of the registers. The cashier asked her briefly about my return and the Manager said "no!" She looked at me and yelled that I used it already so I cannot return it. She said that I abused it that's why it broke. We are still talking but she was already walking out door and she said she's going home. I was stunned on how the manager Lupe inappropriately handled the situation accusing me for abuse. We were all confused and I feel sorry for the cashier coz there's no other manager to help her decide to accept the return or not. As far as I know, returns and exchanges are accepted within 90 days with receipt. Good thing there was nice lady that she work with that knows about the return policy so she accepted the return. That's the good customer service that I was expecting so great job to those cashiers. This store is the closest Hardware store in the neighborhood so I'm pretty sure I will shop here again. I just hope that I will not see that Manager Lupe ever again! read more

They have their Christmas stuff 50% off but beware check prices when you get to the register not all the stuff that's on the shelf where it says 50% off is 50% off trying to purchase a blanket that was $24 for $12 the guy said it's not half off then he said oh it was over there I'll honor that price and then for some reason he called I guess a manager I don't know he was sweeping the floors and he said no I always thought that if there was a sign there stating a price or half off that's what you got obviously not at this outdoor supply could have just been the manager too read more

Garden area has a nice variety of flowers, lady working there was very helpful and helped us choose some great blooms for our garden. But when we went indoors to check out the battery operated machines, we were greeted by a rude lady that at first yelled at me and said " Don't touch the machines, if you need to see a machine ask for assistance", I then asked if she could answer a few questions we had and show us some of the machines. Well it was a bad idea, she said that she didn't know the area, so I asked if someone else could then help us. She said the person in charge of that area was not in that day, that maybe we should come back at another time. Then all of a sudden she asked what we would like to see and that only she can touch the product on the wall. I was like "really", so I asked for a replacement chain for my saw. I gave her the size I needed more than three times, she continued to refuse that I look for what I needed, she wanted to hand me the wrong size even though I continued to let her know the exact size I needed. Ugh I will never return to a store that doesn't let you browse around and grab the things you need, Lowes and Home Depot are a way better choice. By the way she continued to walk behind us screaming, until my husband said to her that we didn't need her assistance, we only purchased some beautiful blooms and a few other things we needed. I would give this a great rating but this is only my first time visiting this store. I do hope it does not go out of business as it is much closer than other Hardware stores to where I live. I used to love the original OSH and although this is not the same, it feels the same and the people are just as friendly. I went to find some pest control products. I had no time finding them and they were in stock. I have been to other larger Hardware stores and they always seemed to be out of stock. This place had what I needed at the right place and with easy to find inventory. I will probably use this place now as my main goto for Hardware products before I go to the other big chain stores. The only sad part is there were few people in the store and I remember the original OSH being much more crowded. Please keep this place going! read more
