I had an interesting experience this week with harbor freight. I bought a new power-washer and when I got home discovered the frame was broken in the box. Obviously disappointed I brought it back and swapped for another one yesterday. Last night input the new one together only to find that the engine would not start. I tried and tried and went through all trouble-shooting-no luck. I took it back again today and asked to return it for my money back. The reply was "sure for a $72 re-stock fee". I of course said this was my 3rd time in this week and it's never worked so it's not that changed my mind, I've just had 2 bad units in 3 days. Sorry sir, it's $72 if you want to return. I was pissed to say the least and decided I would go ahead and swap it again to avoid the $72 fee. Oh no.....I had not gotten every drop of gas out of it (though literally shaking it upside down for 5 minutes trying) so they would not do the exchange either. After discussing with the manager only to hear the same options, I walked out with the new one under threat of the police being called!?! Never ever shopping there again. You could find everything you need here at harbor freight however you'll have problems with certain cashiers when it comes to pricing. Let me explain. I found a motorcycle tire changer online original price for 89.99 that was on sale (15% off) for 76.49. When the cashier rung it up he said he could give me the ($10 1 year warranty) plan for it for free and a few dollars off. When I said I'll pass he said "okay I'll just charge you full price then" with attitude theb he tried to charge me full price on the item because I chose to not get the 1 year warranty. It's a scam. The item was discounted $13.50 and he planned to use that to pay for the 1 year warranty on the item so he could benefit from it (commission). I refused to pay full price and showed him the price their website showed with their discount. I ended up getting the item for the discounted price. This is not the first time they have tried to pull this fast one on me before. It's sad when you take your business to them and they treat you that way. If you plan on going in because you saw a discounted price online make sure you mention that to them before they even start ringing the items up if not you will deal with the same thing. read more

I've been coming to harbor freight my entire life. I recently shopped at the location on 104th and Washington. The store is a complete disaster, nothing is in the correct spot and they blast your email with 4 coupon adds per day but when you go into the store and do not have the coupon present they will hold the line up for 8 minutes. When it was my turn I had my hands full and also didn't have the coupon present the cashier proceeded to stand and whistle as I looked thru my emails for the coupon. Mind you there is 4 lines 10 people deep and the manager isaah will just stand with his hands behind his back as if he was a military drill Sargent talking down to his customers like there below him. I will never shop at this location again. read more

I paid for an inside track club membership, which includes hassle free returns. I bought a $500 welding machine and had to return it twice. Both times, I felt like my integrity was questioned by someone who looked like they just got out of jail. I'm a business owner with several thousand dollars in receipts on my "membership" . Boyfriend and I came to look for some tools to aid our backyard project. It was a wee bit difficult to find employees to help us but nothing crazy. I appreciated that the employee that was trying to help us admitted that she didn't quite understand what we were looking for & was able to call over someone else to help so that we got the proper help that we needed. I would like to point out that this same employee did a fantastic job, while aiding at the registers, handling a couple that weren't wearing masks & not being respectful of the 6 ft policy. She was a bit harsh but it was appropriate for the situation & it made me happy to see that she stood by the company's policy & cares about the safety of everyone. She also directed traffic between the lanes for the checkout. Again, a bit harsh but it wasn't inappropriate. I apologize, I don't know what her name is. She had light-dark brown hair in a bun & was a bit on the short side. Piper was our cashier who helped us twice & she was extremely sweet & stayed calm even with all the chaos going on around us. She offered to look up items in the back twice & used great manners! Overall, this store isn't my favorite for tools but I wanted to specifically point out the actions that I saw from these 2 women today! read more

I have shopped here many times other the years and have had no serious issues. However, I recently purchased a bunch of tools including an air compressor. The compressor was defective and I returned it today. I saw that the refund was much less than what I paid. When I questioned that, I was told that there is a 20% restocking fee. I had never been informed of this fee at time of purchase. I reminded the cashier that the item was defective out of the box and that I had never even used it. She said that was the policy and I was out of luck. Needless to say, I will not be returning again and this store has lost my business after all of these years!! read more

The 44" tool chest was on sale for the lowest I have seen, so I got one, along with the top chest and the side box on March 13, for a total of 3 box's. Was told they could be on this weeks truck, but could take up to 2 weeks. After 2 weeks I didn't hear anything so I called them, only one of the box's came in, you would think they would of call me and said there was a issue and be apologizing a little, but not the case. And was told the other box's would be next week, on April 1 or so called again, cause no one called me. But again disappointed. But have 2 out of 3 box's or here, Ask to talk to a manger, and that was a waste of time. They blamed it on the Coronavirus. The box's should of be here before stay place order here Colorado. But he did say they, the box would be here the 8th. Called on the 9th no box, said I could pick up 2 and get my money back on the 3rd. If didn't want the third I wouldn't of got it. I need all 3 to change from old to new. Again they are using the Coronavirus for the delay and not taking any of the responsibility. And now the box will not be in tell the 20th. You would think they would contact me and explain the delay and how sorry they are for the delay, but working to fix the issue, not the case. It went from 2 weeks to over 5 weeks and I don't think they care. Even with Coronavirus 5 weeks, really. I think my biggest problem is like they don't care if I get the box's or not. Will not order anything from them again, will go else where and pay more if needed. read more

This is coming from and employee of Harbor Freight. I'm just going to say it like it is...Harbor Freight SUCKS! I've been working there a little over 3 months and I do not agree with any of their policies at all! Whenever I leave the warehouse for 3 minutes or longer to help a guest either find something in the back or on the floor, I'll get yelled at by the Store Manager or the Warehouse Supervisor "You don't get paid to help customers, you're paid to keep the store clean." (I was hired as a salesman). I don't think this very fair towards the guests or me with my prime job being to generate sales. Most of the employees that are there don't even want to work there or are there just for the discount, they tend to be on the snotty or rude side, and most of them will talk behind your back. Having said that, IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A JOB, LOOK ELSWHERE. When i was hired, I was promised full time 40 hours after the setup of the store was finished. Now a month afterwards I'm stuck with part time 12 hours a week (with the highest sales percentage of everyone). None of the employees there (that legitimately need to have a job) can survive on that paycheck. Personally what I thought would be a fun place to work has turned into the worst retail nightmare ever. Now that you've got the inside scoop on that particular store, do with it what you will. read more

I didn't have any real problem with this place until now. I bought an air compressor, brought it home tried to use it, found it to be defective and tried to return it. I was pleasant and respectful. I asked for a refund and told that the compressor was defective. I was told there was a restocking fee and I refused to pay that since I was not told that when I bought it and it was defective and not my fault. I had to battle with them to get my refund and the manager came out and finally told me he would give all my money back but told me I was thrown out of that store forever for asking for my full refund. He also said he was going to inform his "loss protection" team of me. I was calm but firm so I don't understand the need for what he said. I will never return to that store. You get charged for bringing something defective back and get yelled at for wanting your full refund and told to never come back?? What a crappy place. I will take my business elsewhere! read more

3 weeks ago I purchased a Drill Master 1/4 Sheet Orbital Sander in this store. I didn't get a chance to use it until today. When I opened the box, it was missing the dust catcher bag and it wouldn't run, the motor just buzzed. I went back to the store to exchange for one that worked. I was told without a receipt they couldn't give me my money back - I told them I don't want money, I want one that works! I couldn't find the receipt and I was told no exchange because I couldn't prove I bought it there - even though Harbor Freight is the only retailer in the area that carries that brand. I gave them the sander and told them to throw it away - it was of no use to me. I don't understand their exchange policy, they know I bought it there, they know it doesn't work, all I wanted was what I should have received when I bought the sander - a tool that works. It cost me 13.99, what it cost them is customers, neither I or any of my family or friends will ever shop there again. It's not surprising that the business is struggling - that's what happens when you treat your customers like crap. read more
