Great market for a unique variety of meats (elk, bison, venison, boar sausage) and lots of other quality meats. There is a large selection of red, white, and sparking wines, too. The seasoning and rub isles, yes multiple isles of spices, are what caught my eye. The reasonably priced pre-mixed rubs and seasonings are priced well and are great for many types of meats. Definitely stock up! Harbor Greens gives a small version of Metropolitan Market and Sprouts. It carries many of the same specialty snacks, meats, and drinks, but has a small town local vibe. After eating their deli sandwiches you will never make a sandwich at home again. The bread and ingredients are incredibly fresh and their prices are low considering the size and quality. The Big Tuna was stuffed with tasty Albacore tuna along with Cheddar Cheese, House Honey Mustard, Cucumber, Onion, Pickles, and Spring Mix. The Italian was equally stuffed with Turkey, Sopressata Salami, Genoa Salami, Provolone, Italian Dressing, Springmix, Onion, Pepperoncinis, Peppers, Olives, Tomatoes and Sprouts on a fresh roll. Got two sandwhiches to go because our water was out for 48 hrs here in Gig Harbor because they were putting in a new line. HORRIBLE!!! for $13 the Mikes had 2 tiny slices of turkey and was grilled with skinny bacon and no cheese to be seen. DO NOT GET THEIR SANDWICHES a T+OTAL RIP OFF!!!! read more

The store has many healthful selections, and we picked up some good items for a picnic that we had nearby in the summer.

*Update: Do. Not. Try. The. Pizza. In an effort to try something new we tried the take and bake pizza. The easiest, most basic, veggie pizza. We baked it within 45 minutes of getting home, followed the instructions to a tee, brushed the crust with the provided garlic butter (which I was excited about) but still. It was the worst pizza. You're better off hitting the frozen pizza section near you. The crust was stale, I doubt it was made in house (I typically make my own pizza dough so I know fresh dough) and the toppings were poorly chopped with little to no seasoning. Papa Murphy's in belfair makes a batter pizza, and that's the worst all around pizza ever. The quick of my review - just don't go there. Let something of value take over this space. Harbor Greens does nothing for Gig Harbor. I am always disappointed by harbor greens. I just don't see the hype, and I'm pretty sure if we could get a real natural food store in Gig Harbor they would be out of business in no time. The selection is super random. Their produce section is small and honestly, has nothing Safeway. Which is sad. The deli is average at best. The sandwiches, while made fresh, taste like they've been sitting for a while. I'm guessing it processed sauces and breads they use. Speaking of breads....why is the selection the same as Safeway? Their cold salads always taste sour, which might be a result of sitting out to long or not using fresh ingredients. Where are the locally made breads, meats and cheeses? Where are the fancy sauces and jams? They exist at Whole Foods across the bridge....why how here? The peninsula has such a robust selection of bakers and farmers, it's a shame it's not better represented here. They have some house plants. But nothing thrilling. And some nicknacks, but the selection is very random and honestly takes up a lot of valuable space in such a small store that could be used to showcase local makers. My advice - cross the bridge and head to Whole Foods. They'll pay your bridge toll and you'll have an amazing selection of produce and deli items, locally produced goods and more. Otherwise, head to Safeway were you'll find the same items for a lower price. read more

I first went to Harbor Greens at their University Place location and liked that one quite a bit. Just recently was my first time to the Gig Harbor location but I get the distinct impression that selection is smaller than the other one. It was a challenge to find some things not only because I wasn't used to the placement of the store but some items just simply weren't there. What I did purchase possessed the same great quality that I have come to expect with Harbor Greens but I still prefer the other location a bit more which is fine by me because it's across the toll bridge, the Narrows Bridge and the University Place location is on the same side as to where I live. Staff at the Gig Harbor location was great as they were very chatty (but not too much) and very friendly. read more

This place has the best deli sandwiches! The employees who make them are always so kind and are always able to make substitutions. I always get the warrior and it's really good! The portions are always pretty big, and the ingredients taste really fresh. This place always has really good deals on produce, and sometimes carries some things I've never seen before. They also have a little gift shop area with really cute stuff. It really seems like you can find everything you need here! read more

While visiting a friend in WA we stopped by this store to pick up things for dinner. I love fancy grocery stores and this spot fills the bill. The outside is gorgeous and looks like a nursery with all the beautiful flowers. Not sure if I took pictures of them, but I had to mention it because it was so beautiful. The meat department had excellent choices of meat to choose from and a wide array of sandwiches were available. The produce section was impressive in the way it was displayed and organized. There is a what also appears to be a nice wine selection too. I, of course, headed towards the beer. The selection was impressively large with many craft beers that were new to me. On the way to the cashier was a plethora of candy and carmels to choose from. I look forward to visiting this specialty grocery store again next time I visit. Cheers and happy eating! read more

Usually love the sandwiches here but this time I couldn't even finish half of it. I called thirty minutes before closing asking if they still take orders, they said yes so I order the same sandwich I always do. I LOVE this little grocery store. The produce is fresh and local. The made-to-order sandwiches are incomparable (and close to a mile tall). The staff is friendly and extremely helpful. There are some exotic cheese and meat selections (I love a great paté). Want chocolate? They carry Seattle Chocolate! Want local beer? Yep, they have it! Der Scharfe Maxx? Their selection of beers, fresh produce, and local fare are excellent, however their cheese monger is rude, dismissive, and dishonest. I inquired as to the availability of a speciality alpine cheese from Switzerland. Not only did the cheese monger speak down to me about "knowing it was a Swiss cheese," he went on a lengthy diatribe about how only local products were featured in his selection. "I could have a worldwide selection," he prattled on. I wanted to tell him that Murray's Maxx was available from a Portland based cheesemaker, but he'd succeeded in turning me off from the conversation. Der Scharfe Maxx, I've discovered, isn't available to any of the local markets. I suppose he wasn't aware of that, either. For those of you who'd enjoy a proper selection of cheeses, Murray's Maxx is available at the Fred Meyer up the street. If you're in the mood for a trip across the bridge, try Metropolitan Market in Tacoma or wait for them to open in the harbor. Again, Harbor Greens is, generally speaking, spot on. Their cheesemonger, though, is rude, dismissive, under informed, and didn't bother to try and help. He seemed more interested in puffing himself up. I personally absolutely adore this grocer. Their customer service has always been top notch. Their produce is some of the finest around. They have beautiful, healthy plants for sale of all kinds. Daily soups and Theo sandwiches are dynamite!! We're not talking some whimsy anemic sandwich either, if you're looking for hefty scrumptious sammy... come here. They even have veggie sandwiches. They have a decent specialty cheese section and some specialty grocery options in the dry goods area. A large wine selection and good liquor selection. Their meat counter is also just great! I've never purchased one piece of meat here that I wasn't completely satisfied with. Cost wise varies greatly depending on what you are purchasing. This place is worth the patronage. read more

One dinner evening, I stopped by for a dinner meal/snack at the Deli for takeout. It was a quiet hour, maybe somewhere between "dinner" and closing. The gentleman there was happy to assist my needs in a good sandwich. I forgot exactly from a few weeks ago but it was some veggie sandwich customized with vegan and GF bread options. The store is neat with a pleasant selection; maybe not exact but reminiscent of any good local co-op, PCC or Whole Foods. I love Harbor Greens. It's conveniently located. They have great produce and items on their shelves that I haven't seen elsewhere. A little pricey (that's relative to your personal wallet!) but their specials that come out on Wednesdays can sometimes more than make up for it. Look for their flyer. More than anything I absolutely love their staff! They are knowledgeable, friendly, they greet and recognize you. This is my favorite grocery store in Gig Harbor. It has a higher-end selection of items you might be looking for (along with the norm). They have a variety of local produce along with the standards. Not a large selection of organics which is one of the few negatives. But overall, this is a local market that you can mange and not get lost in the aisles. They have a butcher and a deli. I work about 2 blocks away from the Gig Harbor branch of Harbor Greens and have been inside the store multiple times. Some days I've made purchases; other times I've just browsed. My most recent purchase at this store was yesterday morning. Most times I've visited, I've carried a small canvas tote bag with me (about the size of a book bag). I sometimes use this as a shopping bag; my main reason for having it with me, though, is to carry things to work (beverages, snacks, or whatever I might need). See, I carpool to work and I'm sometimes dropped off early; on these days, I've made a habit of getting a tea or coffee at MarKee next door, then perusing Harbor Greens before heading to my office. At no time during any of my visits did an employee EVER mention my small tote bag to me, nor have I ever noticed any sign about not carrying bags inside. *** This morning, after my usual beverage at MarKee, I walked as per usual over to Harbor Greens; I was looking for little candies or gifts to distribute in these stockings we have at my office. I didn't really see anything that looked right (or rather, that wasn't overpriced), so I left without making any purchases. I'd walked about 2 blocks, when I noticed two gentleman step outside of a vehicle parked at the real estate agent's office across from my work building. The men called out "Excuse me, ma'am" (or something to that effect). I thought that they must need directions or something, so I stopped. The men told me that they were from Harbor Greens. My first thought was that they were going to take some sort of survey. I was just about to reply "Oh, I was just there!" when I found out that ... these two men already knew. Instead of taking a survey, or asking me if I'd witnessed some incident there (another fleeting thought), the men wanted to know if I had a receipt from my trip there this morning. Apparently, they'd gotten into their car and creepily FOLLOWED ME after I left the store to head for work! I told the men I hadn't bought anything. They didn't look happy to hear this. They told me that some other Harbor Greens employee had noticed me come in "with an empty bag", then leave. It was obvious what the men were implying at this point, so I offered to let them see inside my tote bag. I held it open for them, and they peered inside. When the two men didn't see any stolen merchandise, they apologized profusely, then got back inside their car and I moved on. *** As a repeat customer, let's just say I was left VERY disturbed by this incident. Yes, I understand that stores have to take measures to prevent shoplifting. But other than carrying a shopping bag-sized tote bag into the store -- the very same bag I've carried inside there at least 15 times, and have basically DISPLAYED to cashiers while in the process of making purchases (none of whom ever said a word about me carrying it) -- I did *nothing* that should have made anybody inside suspect that I was a shoplifter. (For heaven's sake, I'd made a $10+ purchase, carrying the same bag, a mere 24 hours before!) *** I might have been more understanding (albeit very annoyed) if somebody had stopped me *inside* the store, or at least in the parking lot or something (and questioned me in PRIVATE). Instead, I'm rather horrified by what actually happened -- that two men I'd never seen before in my life (but who were apparently eerily watching me as I browsed their store) got into a car and followed me down the street before stopping and questioning me. Is this even legal?! What if I hadn't made eye contact with the men, or if I'd ignored them when they called out? Would they have followed me inside my work building and questioned me there? It was embarrassing enough to be stopped in the middle of the sidewalk (one which cars are frequently zooming past); I can't even imagine how humiliating it would have been to be questioned at work -- all for the horrendous crime of carrying the same small bag I've carried inside the store over a dozen times, and not purchasing anything (this time) to put inside it. *** While the two men weren't aggressive in their questioning, and while they did apologize -- there is no way in heck that I will EVER feel comfortable setting foot inside a Harbor Greens again. This includes both the Gig Harbor and Tacoma branches. I'd be too afraid that the employees would be secretly eyeing me while I shopped; and even more afraid that they'd get into another car and follow me again if I decided not to buy something! I'm disappointed (as well as embarrassed and annoyed) because until this morning, I actually liked this store. Yes, it's overpriced, but it has some interesting foods and cute Christmas stuff. But yesterday morning's purchase there was my last. At least I can walk into Safeway or Fred Meyer and feel fairly confident that nobody will get in a car and follow me, or question me in the middle of a sidewalk two blocks away, if I leave without making a purchase read more

We stopped off here after reading some yelp reviews on Gig Harbor natural foods stores. On vacation, we wanted to buy our own groceries, & cook for ourselves. We were really impressed with the quality & freshness of their products, and the kindness & helpfulness of the staff. I sampled some habanero salmon spread that was just to die for!! The prices are higher, but we prefer quality organic & fresh whole grain products. I really do not see a difference in price with other natural foods stores even from 1000 miles away-but we are looking forward to dining on some of the most beautiful veggies I've ever seen. Produce selection is small, and the same as any other store, nothing special or unique. over all selection is meager, and its all overpriced. The staff is a bit holier than thou, no reason to shop there. Fred Meyer is just across the lot, dollars better spent. read more

Harbor Greens is my jam. This is an excellent grocery store with tons of locally sourced options. The owners are great guys and genuinely care about how this place is run, who they employ, and the satisfaction of their customers. They will often times be the guys helping you out to your car. The wine selection is on point and the produce is always top notch. The only complaint (and pretty irrelevant) I would have with Harbor Greens is the amount of time it takes them to make a sandwich. I get it, don't expect restaurant like service at a grocery store. I'm certainly not complaining about the quality of the sandwich, they are delicious. I've been in here a hand full of times now. I always want to like the place. I always walk out thinking, "Goodness the prices are ridiculous" regarding 90% of the store. Yes, they have some things I cant find any other place between tacoma and poulsbo (Newtree Lavender Milk Chocolate, great jarred curries).. but, the quality of their meat always feels like it's a bit past prime... and the veggies arent higher quality then the organics section at the QFC, but they are more expensive. Is it just me, or is the world moving towards niche stores? I, for one, am grateful for the change. Smaller stores that accommodate just a few things that you need, with better knowledge and customer service. Case in point: Harbor Greens. We stop by at least 2 times per week for meat and fish. Their seafood, when bought in quantities for 1-2 people, is very reasonable. The fish kabobs come out to about $1 per skewer, and the cajun spiced one is delish! The crab cakes come out to about $2 a piece and are very good, as well. And they always take such good care of us! With food from this place and Dave's Meat and Produce in Tacoma, our house may be the best place to eat in the harbor! read more
