The expression "hidden gem" gets thrown around a lot, but this is one! Such a gorgeous location on the bay, nice people and really amazing pizza. Amazing spot to have a drink while you wait for a pizza to go, or stay and eat there. There is also a grocery if you need, you know, stuff. But we have only gone for the pizza. Sourdough crust, square in shape and truly the best pizza we have had in Kitsap County. Cannot recommend highly enough. Hours are weird and they don't answer the phone, so facebook is apparently the best way to confirm they are open before heading over. But on a nice summer day, there aren't many better spots in the area. read more

It's all about the view. It's nice place to grab a beer, class of wine, or a coffee and stare off into the distance. You may be lucky and see killer whales moving along Colvos Passage. The market also has pizza, snack foods and gifts. The location near the bridge and boat launch make it the hub of the community. They have a nice adjacent building that houses a small community museum that is worth a look. The building that holds the museum can be rented out and frequently holds community events. The owner is frequently there and tries to make everyone welcome. I tongue in cheek complained that they didn't have a hitching post for horses. The owner explained that their food prep license didn't allow farm animals, even though our Norwegian Fjord was the hit of the parking lot. read more

The location is beautiful, and the staff were knowledgeable and efficient, which made the whole experience even better. They're clearly a popular spot, so parking can get tight -- not their fault, just a sign that everyone else loves it too. I recommend going early. This is a touristy dry goods market (think jams, cute cheese boards, bottles of wine, dish towels, etc) that also has a cafe (sandwiches, baked goods, draft beer, and wine). It's basically the only restaurant in this area, so unless you drive into town, this is kind of it for food. The sandwiches are pretty good, not the best sandwich I've ever eaten but not bad either. The best part is the patio which has a nice view. It's substantially sized and has both covered and uncovered seating areas. The staff are friendly and helpful. Had 2 drinks and 2 sandwiches, drinks were, well, drinks hard to hose up a beer and a mimosa. Ordered an Italian and a turkey pesto both on focaccia bread, both were good. You order and pay at the counter then grab a seat. A runner brings your food, that's the extent of customer service, not bad just non existent. My wife and I drove here to try the pizza which, unfortunately, would not be served for another couple of hours. But it wasn't a wasted trip because before that we checked out exhibit (verging on shrine) to medical quack/swindler/mass murderer Linda Laura Hazzard and her "Starvation Heights sanitarium. The owner of the new Olalla Bay Market, Gregg Olson, wrote a book about the whole thing. He's compiled an extensive collection of photos, actual furnishings, and much more in a room in a building off to the side of the market. I won't go into the story but it was truly fascinating to see and read all of it. The building also contains a room for special events and/or community meetings and offers a beautiful view of Colvos Passage. What gives it an extra local relevance is that the one of the roads you take to the market passes by the site of the burnt ruins of the sanitarium. You can't see anything because it's fenced off and back behind groups of trees. And it's on private property anyway. We also found out that pizza is only served by the $5 slice, which can get pricey real fast. We'd been planning to order a whole pizza and enjoy it outside on the shaded deck. Oh well, not to be. Too bad about the pizza but we loved the exhibit. read more

The aesthetic here is very relaxed and local. The staff was friendly. There was only one person manning the counter, making food and coffee, and putting in salad/charcuterie orders. Everyone was very patient but I kept wondering when another staff member was going to jump in to help. The first time we went, we were searching for some basic food staples for our vacation rental: milk - butter - bread - eggs ... So, we left and went to Albertsons. The second time we went for lunch and had to ask what time the salads et al were available because it's not listed anywhere on the web site, FB, IG, or interior menu. [FYI: It's 11 AM.] I got the caprese salad and my friend got the garden salad. Both were very fresh and tasty and arrived pretty quickly! Loved this place from when it was Al's Market until today when they had a Sip and Shop event. Always supported them until today. They had free mocktails but it became obvious after being there for an hour that the gentleman making them selectively sought out who he wanted to give them to. Walked clearing across the store several times passing others to seek out who he selected and they all went to white folks scattered in the store They were the majority of course, but very obvious. Not sure why it was this way but too bad. Bought some hot sauce direct from the Hornet vendor and left. I've been following the remodel of this once funky, dumpy, off the beat little place that we often would like to take out of town guest because of the location and quirky charm and I am beyond impressed at what it has become.You can not beat the views off the back patio and the staff were all super friendly and efficient despite being crazy busy on a week day night. I really don't want the word to get out on this gem in our back yard but I hope it continues to do well and I look forward to enjoying summer nights with friends and family on the patio.
