I was shopping at this Safeway in Gig Harbor while my husband was standing with some strangers at the Pokemon vending machine, hoping that maybe the machine would be getting stocked since there was a line. The manager came up to him and asked him why they were standing at the machine quietly and he said that the port orchard location just had a restock and they seemed to think that the Safeway was next. The manager scott then called him a stalker and said you know what stalking is right. Apparently the manager allows their employees to clock out and scalp the Pokemon machine when it gets filled and then clock back in & also be completely unprofessional and rude to customers. Very unprofessional & I will not be shopping there ever again. Corporate will also be notified. read more

Well, my friend went shopping here and roasts were on sale for a big discount if you spent over $50 minimum. When she checked out, her bill was $180 and she realized when she got home that they had overcharged her $44 for the roast. When she went back to the store and spoke with Kevin and Susie, Kevin said he was only giving her $18 back because she'd already got $30 off of her groceries. The problem with that was the discount on the groceries was for buying other sale items not the roast! As Kevin cheated her out of the sale price for the roast, she told him she would never shop at the store again and he said "That's fine!" Kevin should know that good customer service is huge and he behaved very badly. My friend has told everyone she knows about this horrible experience at this Safeway. The small act of cheating by Kevin has cost Safeway a lot of business. I will certainly never shop there! read more

Sadly this happens way more often than it should- the prices ring up for more than the tag says. Today I had to have them check two items that were ringing up incorrectly and have them change the price. (no, not ones you had to scan in the app to get the price either) they were nice about it- they checked the items and saw I was correct and changed it- however the problem is what if I was not paying attention? How many other of my items have done this without me catching it? I noticed today because I did self check out because I wanted separate bags for certain items. This is not just a today situation- it's happened before. And how much does it slow others down having items priced checked?!? I think this really should be fixed, next time I go I'll check one of the items as they know it's ringing up $2 more at the register to see if they fix it read more

The quality of the deli food has sunken titanic deep. It's all disgusting now. Stop coming out with new things, and focus on your currently existing stock. Your potato salad makes me want to vomit, the antiposto salad may as well be taken off the menu because it looks smells and TASTES like vomit, and your wraps are always poorly made. The only things that's good is the sushi and I've seen the same worker making sushi every single day non stop for the last 3 years I've lived here. EVERY SINGLE DAY WITHOUT FAIL. I've been going to this Safeway for over a decade. They always have the greatest staff--friendly, helpful, and courteous. I've spoken with the store manager several times over the last 5 years and he always has time to listen. He works just as hard as those around him. The produce is decent but used to be better--this goes for all markets though. Harbor Greens, Fred Meyer all have soft or wrinkling veggies sitting for sale. I've tried the newer Fred Meyer on Pt Fosdick; it's ok but I feel like I don't matter (the employees don't seem to care about customers or anything). I would have given Safeway Gig Harbor five stars, but I get annoyed when I see sale prices on the shelf that don't show on my receipt. If the items weren't on sale, I may not have purchased and sometimes it too much trouble to travel back to the store for a refund. read more

I love my GH Safeway! I love all the food selections and for the most part prices are good too. The store's staff are ALL great! Always sincerely cheerful, asking how they can help you, then physically helping you with getting full grocery carts to your car, etc. The friendly guys at the meat & seafod counters go out of their way to help you-same for lady in the bakery. Most staff walk you to the right place when you're looking for an item. Customer Service & mgrs. are top notch & if can't solve your issue directly try to make up for it with a little gift card. The store is clean and well organized. My only suggestions/constructive criticism: I do miss having Quest labs there! One blond lady in Pharamcy seems to always be "unhappy & impatient"? Safeway bakery breads are not as good as they used to be, i.e. sourdough not much flavor (did they change recipes?) & at times store is missing items or has empty shelves but I undertstand the supply chain issues, etc. going on right now for many. FYI I have tried the new Met Market across the street & it may be "pretty" but I'll stick with my Safeway for selections, helpful staff and prices! Thank you. read more

Safeway is my default grocery store in Gig Harbor so this review only applies to an experience with their pharmacy. I scheduled a flu shot for me and my wife about mid morning and completed the on-line questionnaire to help speed up the process. We arrived a few minutes early to check in. The staff was obviously busy. The individual at the window told me that she couldn't find a record of our appointments and told me in uncertain terms that unless I could show confirmations we would be taken as "walk-ups" and there was a 45 minute wait. Fortunately, I was able to show her the confirmation e-mails they had sent me several days ago on my phone so they took us when scheduled. However, she couldn't find the questionnaires that I had previously completed so they had to be repeated. The actual process of administrating the shots went smoothly. They obviously need to work on the front end part of this process but a "word to the wise", be sure and take a record of your appointment confirmation or you may be in for a long wait. read more

Awful deli manager. Yesterday about noon I ordered a combo chicken meal and asked if I could have two chicken thighs instead of 1 leg and 1 thigh. The young gentleman kid had no problem with it but the female manager shook her head and said no! She wouldn't even look up at me and I commented on it and said why are you taking it so personal it's just chicken. I felt bad for the poor gentlemen kid because the embarrassment on his face coming from his own manager towards a customer he even apologized to me. Then there was another female employee that chimed in with this manager to show her loyalty and I explain to both of them it's just chicken you're going to throw half of that away anyway at the end of the day. Neither one of them offered me that I could still purchase, just À la cart... the answer was just No! Very rude very snooty attitude. Quick reminder, it's food people it's food and I was paying for it. Shame on Safeway, some of your employees might need a class on customer kindness and simple adjustments. Safeway is back in town after the entire Haggan debacle and I couldn't be happier about it. The parking remains the best for any of the groceries on this end of Gig Harbor, the prices are reasonable (and certainly an improvement over the Haggan price bumps). Safeway also tends to keep enough cashiers and baggers to get you in and out in a hurry. The wing bar is a particularly welcome new addition to this location and I've become especially fond of the salt&vinegar and buffalo ranch wings. My one minor gripe is that they are no longer 24 hours, between Safeway and the QFC there used to be two all night options in the area and now there are none. Still for a no hassle shopping experience (which is important to me) they serve well. read more

I just don't understand the prices at this store. This use to be my primary store for groceries until they merged with Albertsons ownership and the prices all went way up. Best place to get your orders wrong, is at the starbucks. Everytime I order a drink they are out of fruit. I was sold a drink that was supposed to be the new mango dragon fruit refresher and paid full price for a drink that was basically water and pumps of classic pumps. After work, I took most of my drink to the counter to try and get a new drink or something and the girl says, " we dont have the fruit, but that's the same thing." NO it's not the same thing, it was basically clear. RIP off!!! I WONT be back as a customer. I dont like drama, so I just walked away. After the Hagen's catastrophe, Safeway reopened but has lost its former shine. There is a sullen, smug, and arrogant sense of entitlement in the air, as if all former Safeway customers should feel grateful for the store being back in operation. The management lugs around a decidedly unattractive chip on its tiny shoulders. And every single grocery item is 20 to 30 percent higher than the exact same item at other local stores--every single item. read more

Love this store has everything stocked. But there was a one problem yesterday. My husband and two girls needed to run in grab a few things quick and we always wear our mask. Yesterday we had to drop things off in a mail drop off box and and run into Safeway didn't have our mask but stay a 6ft distance. The older guy at the door talking to a young worker as we walk by, heard him say look no mask come on kids let's get the covid. Well we have been quarantined since March 15th and when we do go out we always take caution. Everyone else there has been great and we appreciate all your hard work and putting your health on the line to serve everyone you guys are hero's as well. The new Safeway store is very large has all the typical deli produce meat sections as in most new Safeway stores. The problem is its check out set-up. Question: Who came up with making people stand in a line wrapped around a mini aisle of candy bars (like at Best Buy) with a pull out divider and signage saying 'Line starts here'? I felt like I was in a DMV line. How awful and very tacky. Sadly they had one checker at 10am on a Monday and one 'DMV' line for 15 items or less. When I asked why no self check outs, the clerk stated people couldn't enter the codes correctly. Seriously? So am I to believe people in Gig Harbor with their IQ cant figure out how to do self check out but those in more impoverish areas can. I notice all this is going on with long lines while a store manager walks around with 2 executives checking out the store while customers are waiting in a wrap around 'DMV' line. Safeway can do better. read more

There is little left our communities of community spirit. However, Gig Harbor safeway truly captured the community spirit on January 9, 2019. I arrived from an international flight and stopped at safeway for a few necessities because of the snow and storms . When I arrived the store was in complete darkness with zero power. I was allowed in, under the pretense the generator or power would soon be on. I lost track of how much time I shopped with my phone flashlight but power never returned. Before Albertson's took over (and then the brief, ill-fated Haggen's nonsense), this Safeway used to be my default grocery store, mainly because their in-store bakery was head and shoulders above that of any other store in the area. However, since the Albertson's takeover, they sell their "fresh baked in store" bakery goods as fresh for FIVE OR EVEN SIX DAYS after they're baked. (And that's if I give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that the "packed on" date is actually the same day they were baked.) If you must buy baked goods here (or at Albertson's -- same ownership, same policy of selling stale baked goods as if they were fresh), train yourself to *always* check the dates on the package. If you forget, you're likely to be suckered and get home with baked goods that should have been marked down as "day old" literally days earlier. read more

I recently held a small wedding reception my house in Gig Harbor WA. It was a last minute one week advance notice. I ordered flowers from Safeway's in Gig Harbor, also platters of foods from the Deli. Plus a beautiful two tier cake from bakery This store staff were wonderful. Even with short notice of time 6 days. Each of the departments came thru. On time, exactly what I ordered. With wonderful presentation. I can't Thank the Staff at this store enough. read more

Was happy to have Safeway come back after the Haggen experiment. However, it just is not anywhere close to what it once was. Constantly too many times where there are not enough checkers. For example, I stopped in once to grab some eggs, that's it. It was about 7:15 pm and the express lanes were closed, and only 2 or 3 "regular" lanes were open. I don't get whey they removed the self check out. Quick trips to grab 1 or 2 things have turned into 15 minutes excursions. I just don't understand it. read more

I've been a longtime Safeway shopper for years now - shopping at your Gig Harbor, WA Store. For the past three months I've notice prices increasing at a rather rapid rate AND am finding that your sales (weekly ads) provide much less savings than they have in the past. I used to be able to save about 20-25% using your weekly ads, and now find I'm only saving 10-13%. That is a substantial change when coupled with your rising prices. Add to that the often long lines and frequently no help in carrying out groceries - I'm no longer a fan. As a result, I will no longer be shopping at Safeway. They are building a brand new Fred Meyer in our neighborhood and I have decided (along with a few of my friends) to begin shopping there. I'm really disappointed as I used to LOVE Safeway. I know that prices go up, but in the last month alone, they have really gone up in our Gig Harbor Safeway Store. While you may have limited control over that, your weekly ads could be much better. read more

We were on vacation and staying in Gig Harbor for over a week. We were tired of eating out and found that Safeway still has a Chinese/rice bowl section in their deli. What a nice surprise. We needed a prime rib roast for an early Christmas dinner and we spoke to Kristopher, the butcher. He was so helpful and informative. He is truly a butcher and the shopping experience was so much better because of all the help Kristopher gave us. The other lady butcher was just as helpful with great suggestions. I am only critiquing the pharmacy here at Safeway in Gig Harbor. I have been a regular and constant pharmacy here. The pharmacists and assistants know me and have had no real problems until Sunday evening. I had been to urgent care and they called my prescriptions in. I was at the window at 5:57pm, he had already closed the gate over the window and was there. I asked him if he could get my meds as I had a flight to catch the next morning and he said no I will be here at 9 am tomorrow morning. I said that's too late and he walked away. I went up front and tried to get customer service attention, this took a bit because she was helping someone, I asked what time it was and she said 6:01pm. I told her what happened we walked back and she said, this happens every weekend. He was gone and there was nothing she could do. I have worked sales and retail for many years, this is not how you treat a customer, especially a good customer. I spoke to the Store Mgr and he agreed with me and said he would speak to the pharmacist. He also gave me a $25 gift card. Which is nice but will not bring me back to the pharmacy. If you are looking for a friendly customer oriented pharmacy this is not it. read more

It's ok in that it's better than nothing, sometimes though, it's just barely better than nothing. We got our order of over $150, nice guy and all that, but they literally left off our most important items IE Milk, Ground Turkey, Coffee Creamer and several other items. They were on the ticket given to us and we paid for them. We immediately called and they had the gall to say it would cost us a delivery charge to bring those items BACK to us when clearly or likely, these cold items were left in the truck perhaps. Charge us either 7 or 10 dollars to bring us. They had to credit us for things we didn't even receive but that's not the point. The POINT of the whole business is to help keep elderly people, and others, from having to go out into busy stores and taking chances when it could easily be avoided with a tad of efficiency. I'm sure we'll have to use them again, but with considerable trepidation. read more

The staff here tries really hard to be of great service, in any department. The deli could use more staff, but the selection makes up for the wait. The prices are good and the wine department is excellent! Tons of choices for bread and cheese and the meat department is wonderful. read more
