8/5/2026 - My family and I just had one of the worst customer service experiences we've ever had at Metropolitan Market in Gig Harbor. When we walked up to the checkout, the cashier and the employee bagging groceries were engaged in a conversation and laughing together. We completely understand that employees interact with one another, but once customers are at the register, they should feel acknowledged. Unfortunately, neither employee looked up, smiled, greeted us, or said a single word during the transaction. The only thing the cashier said was while handing me the receipt, and it was so quiet I couldn't even understand what was said. The lack of even basic acknowledgment made us feel like an interruption rather than valued customers. Metropolitan Market has always had a reputation for exceptional service, which is why this experience was so surprising and disappointing. I hope this was simply an isolated incident, but it's something management should be aware of. read more

Every time we come to Washington to visit my brother and sister in law we HAVE to stop by the Metropolitan Market for their yummy freshly baked cookies! They offer 2 types of cookies, chocolate chip and my favorite peanut butter cookie! I love that the PB cookie has both peanut butter chips and chopped Virginia peanuts in it and if you time it right their cookies are still warm like it is right out of the oven ! One of the best peanut butter cookies I've ever had! BTW My review is based solely on their freshly baked cookies. read more

We've come here several times, and our experience has been both good and so-so. One commonality is that the workers are not the friendliest, despite the store's appearance. Keeping up with the Joneses prices are imminent, alongside a few sub-par quality items. As an example, we purchased a birthday cake; although it looked pretty on the outside, it tasted dry and overly sweet. On the positive side, we do appreciate the extended offerings. read more

I was decompressing in Gig Harbor for the weekend and spent a lot more time in the grocery store than I'd anticipated. But what a grocery store. Everything here is so artfully arranged, I felt like I was in a calendar shoot for fresh produce. Gorgeously stacked peppers, esthetically arrangements of frisee lettuce and green onions. I was liking coming here despite the exorbitant pricing...until today. As I was looking at the overpriced seafood end cap some short very old bearded pale guy behind the meat counter made eye contact , maintained it, made a face, then looked away. Maybe he was having a stroke? He's very old so it's possible. Has he never seen a black person wearing Cartier? Does he even know what Cartier is? I doubt it. All jokes aside this is ridiculous. You're the help. Ask me if I need something instead of making weird faces. If you dont like black people that are clearly doing better than you than feel free to get on a boat back to wherever your criminal ancestors came from. No more $50 breakfasts will be purchased here! I shared my hesitations due to past poke-related food poisoning, and she immediately put me at ease. If you've missed shopping in a grocery store where clerks are both available and willing to give you great customer service, then this is your store. Yeah, it's a little pricey but it carries stuff not seen in supermarket chains for years--or ever. What amazed my wife and I was the abundance of clerks in the store asking, "Can I help you?", "Do you need help finding something?" and the like. But the light of my review shines on Cathy (not sure if that's how her name is spelled but it's how she pronounces it!), one of the wine stewards. I've never met a grocery store wine steward anywhere as enthusiastic and knowledgeable as she. Kinda reminded me of myself when I worked as a tasting room host for a well-known winery in Sonoma County. Cathy asked the right questions and suggested several wines she thought we'd like based on what we told her we were looking for. My only suggestion for her is to recommend no more than 3-4 wines at the most, otherwise the choices become overwhelming. I think that was Cathy's enthusiasm and desire to serve her customers getting the best of her. But she asked us to to let her know how we liked the wines she suggested we buy and we hope to do that, if she's working the next time we visit. Not only did Cathy make our shopping a memorable and tasty experiences (so far the wines we bought are very good!) but the store's effective employee training shone brightly on another store clerk. There my wife and I are in the tea/coffee aisle, and a clerk is stocking the shelves. He looks over at our shopping cart, sees four bottles of wine, and says, "You get a 10% discount when you buy six bottles of wine." Sold. Back to the wine area and to Cathy to choose another two bottles. So then, my wife and i are standing in line at a checkout stand and yet another clerk asks if we need any help; And THEN during checkout our cashier offers up a little backstory about her life, the courtesy clerk/bagger is sweet and all smiles, and we leave, saying 'We've got to come back here soon." Except the total on the receipt tells us, "Not so fast. You might want to wait a little before spending this much again." I look at the receipt and reply, "OK we will, but it was worth it." read more

Great local market with high quality items, produce, baked goods, hot prepared food, take and bake in house packaged items, supplements, and so much more. I always walk out with more than I walked in to get. The desserts and in house prepared foods are my favorite. Delicious lunch or quick dinner ideas, and finish it off with a dessert. I grabbed a quick grocery bite to eat, the PBJ with strawberry jam and fresh strawberries! Yum! The cashiers are always friendly and helpful with bagging, and they have a quick self checkout stand if needed. It seems like an upscale vibe, but it's pretty laidback and a good place to get specialty items. read more

This such wonderful gem of a store. It is great having such an asset located just minutes over the bridge from the Westend of Tacoma. This store is well worth the bridge toll. It beats anything in my area. The sister Met Market is the only thing that comes close. Having two fantastic grocery shopping options so near my own area is blessing of such abundance. The Gig Harbor store have produce and meat departments that are just bastion of bountiful selection that is just jaw dropping. The bakery was just godsend during this bountiful holiday season. read more

Seattle based specialty grocery store with nine locations, including this one in Gig Harbor. Very similar to Whole Foods. I like everything about Metropolitan. In addition to great produce, fish, meat, etc., they have an excellent beer, wine, and spirits collection. Add in great customer service. Bathrooms are super clean, thanks for that. Wow, I haven't been to Gig Harbor in years...not since this market was a QFC! But what a great little grocery store! It reminds me of a Whole Foods, but not owned by Jeff Bezos. We wandered in for a snack and ended up with the infamous Cookie, sushi, and drinks. Let me just say, there is a reason that they are known for the Cookie! It was warm and gooey (even at 5pm!), the dark chocolate discs were melting, and it wasn't too sweet. The staff there was really friendly too. And everything was so clean, including the bathrooms. It is on the expensive, upscale side, definitely catering to a certain audience (you can tell just by the number of Teslas parked outside), so maybe not where you buy your everyday items, but definitely come here for your pre-prepared foods! read more

Very disappointed with Met's (Gig Harbor) Sushi, Poke Bowl bar. Whomever is prep-responsible should note the very foundation of sushi is none more important than the preparation and care of perfectly cooked, fresh rice. Our last several takeouts, Sushi rice was hard and very dry; either undercooked or stale. read more

I don't shop at metropolitan market a lot because it's nothing special and always disappoints. That being said, I was next door and just needed a few things so I ran in for a change. I like to buy my mother flowers. I buy them often and have a good gauge for fresh flowers and their price point. There were some pretty, but basic bouquets out front so I thought it was a good opportunity to get some flowers for her. The issue - the complete shock when I checked out and discovered this pretty, but basic bunch of flowers (were talking 6 total flowers, no roses, nothing special) was $42! I could get two bouquets, twice the size at Whole Foods or Tacoma Boys. At Costco I would get a bouquets four times the size for half the price! Lesson learned - there is literally nothing of any value at metropolitan market. I'm done with them. I'll wait till their main and vine again, or whatever is next for that spot since it seems to be an endless display of failing grocery stores. read more

Worth the drive! This store is needed in the area. Very fresh flower section (as soon as you come through the door). Baked goods looked to be of high quality and freshly baked. Wines, cheeses and meats were presented nicely and the entire store is clean. Prices are slightly higher than the local commercial grocer, but worth the quality. I want to be up front that this 3-star review is all because of one employee named Caroline who works at this location. Otherwise, I would give this store higher ratings. I walked in the other day to return holiday clearance items previously purchased from the Tacoma Met Market. Important to keep in mind is that I walked in with items. They are legally mine and in my possession. Caroline was helping to return my items. For some reason a few items were not easily/accurately reflected on my receipt. At that point I was accepting of the fact I couldn't complete the return. I was disappointed, but understanding. At that time Caroline grabbed my items on the counter and pulled them away from me. I asked her what she was doing. She stated that because i "didn't pay for the items" she was taking them. I corrected her, and told her that I did pay for the items but didn't know why they couldn't find them on the receipt and that regardless I walked in with those items and they were mine and she couldn't just decide to confiscate them. She argued back and forth with me. I was totally dumbfounded at this interaction as she 100% failed to realize that she was actually trying to steal items from me. Finally, she told me to "just take the stuff" and then gave me a sarcastic, "and Merry Christmas." Although I was frustrated and surprised, i have to add that I stayed civil throughout this horribly awkward and embarassing interaction. Additionally, after my experience I spoke to a family member who lives in Gig Harbor and at that time my family member expressed that they've also had negative interactions with this woman. I spoke to Sue, the manager. I appreciate her as she was patient and seemed understanding as she listened to what probably sounded like crazy ramblings due to my being shocked, angry, and feeling violated. Again, the other interactions I had with all the other staff at both the Tacoma and Gig Harbor Met Market locations were very pleasant. However, Caroline is a legal, public relations, and customer relations liability to the store. The unprofessional and almost illegal actions of this employee should not be allowed and customers should not be subjected to that type of treatment. read more

I called the store manager yesterday at the Gig Harbor location of Metropolitan Market, requesting to put in a deli order for special clients that were coming into the office the next day for lunch. I specifically chose the Metropolitan Market due to their reputation of excellence. The manager requested that I physically come into the store and select my menu, so I did that at 4:00 pm yesterday. The specific request was for 7 deli sandwiches warmed up and cut in 1/3's for my clients to enjoy, to be picked up at 11:45 am. Not only did they not have my order ready, but they failed to warm and cut the sandwiches or have them on a tray - but in 2 bags with price tags on them. The lunch was terrible and disappointing. When I called to discuss afterwards with the deli manager, I was basically told "too bad for you". I will never support Metropolitan Market again. Way too expensive for what we got. As a food enthusiast, I am a huge fan of Metropolitan Market. I live in Boise, Idaho, where we don't have one. Fortunately, my father lives on Fox Island, Washington, which is relatively close to the Tacoma Metropolitan Market. Every time I come to visit, I make a point to visit the Tacoma store. I usually end up spending at least four hours in the store, checking out all the new product, and determining what to purchase. Needless to say, I was elated to learn that Metropolitan Market was coming to Gig Harbor, which is close to Fox Island. I visited the Gig Harbor Metropolitan Market for the first time on May 18, 2022. I returned for a couple more hours the following day. I could have easily visited the store each of the five days I was visiting because it is even larger and more wonderful than the Tacoma location. Each time, I took so many photos that my iPhone battery died. These photos represent just a small portion of the store, the section that is the furthest to your left upon facing the store, the bakery, prepared foods and cheese section. If you take a look through the photos and extrapolate all the wonderfulness to the other sections, you'll have just a tiny sense of what to expect. But it can't begin to compare to the glorious experience of visiting it in person. Researching locations, I see that there is a Metropolitan Market in Sandpoint, Idaho. As an Idaho native, that's not where I would have located the first Metropolitan Market. I would have placed it in Southern Idaho.Based on the demographics, it would make sense to build one in Boise, if a large enough retail space could be located. If not, Meridian would be the second best option. Second best would be Meridian. I hope the Sandpoint location is doing well, and that in time, Boise to will get a Metropolitan Market. If the Sandpoint location isn't doing as well as expected, I hope that isn't held against Southern Idaho, which has a completely different demographic, one that's much more likely to support a specialty grocery store of this caliber. Until then, I will continue to visit Metropolitan Market every single time I am in Gig Harbor. Highly Recommended!!! read more

Visited this ovation for the first time 8-28-2022. We only stopped in quickly for The Cookie & some drinks, we did not browse the store. While their prices are on the higher end, you usually get better quality. I ordered the green smoothie which was good but a little tart, my teen wasn't a fan. She had an Italian soda which was overflowing with whipped cream and made a huge mess as we put the lid on, the drinks do not come with lids we had to put them on ourselves. As we sat eating our cookie, which is delicious but falling apart and very messy, there were a ton of flies at the table section which is right next to the front door. Not sure if they can do anything about this but it are for a not so pleasant experience and cut our visit short. Go for the food but do not stay to eat there. read more

I've went in to the deli to get food for my kids and I. There were 5 slices of pizza left, 4 Margherita and 1 Fungi. I asked the employee if I buy a whole pizza, would they make it, the employee said no. I asked if they can asked the manager and the manager came over and I explained the same that I would like to buy a whole pizza and they said no that's all we have and we won't be making anymore for the day. In all my 20+ years of customer service, I haven't found a single management refused a sale for a customer until now. read more

Swanky joint for a grocery store. Lots of fresh seafood and an awesome bakery department. They also have a coffee shop inside and plenty of parking. Think Whole Foods but with a much better selection. My only complaint was the restroom. It was clean, but the water in the sinks came out hot. By hot I mean hot enough to boil a lobster in! Wow - so cool to have a Metropolitan Market location come to Gig Harbor!! This chain has been a favorite for years, but it always meant a drive all the way out to North Tacoma to get to one. But no more!! The new store in Gig Harbor just opened today - we were in the lot to get some things at Ace Hardware and saw the crowd and buzz - and what a treat to happen on the place on the day they opened!. HUGE new store and beautiful inside. I honestly think this must be one of the largest Metropolitan Market stores around (I've only been in a few but this one is really big). We wandered all the departments, and the variety and quality of food and such is just overwhelming. The fish counter alone makes it worth a stop - every kind of fresh fish you can think of, this side of Pike Place Market. Isle after isle is just endless varieties of specialty foods as well as staples. The wine department is huge - with wines ranging from the sublime to the most amazing. We bought a few things - some fish from the market and some teas we were out of - but this will very soon become a regular stop. My one caveat would be: if you're able, park away from the store. Don't try to get up front. I don't know what they were thinking when this parking lot was designed years ago, but they were never expecting the traffic levels we have today. The parking lot is pretty insane - not just for the Market, but the fact there's other big stores in the same small lot. So if you're into getting a few steps, I'd recommend parking more down towards Ace and walking in. Thanks so much for opening up this location! What a total treat to have in the area. read more

Amazing experience every time!! I always feel so fancy shopping for my groceries here! The best experience looking for items and had the meat counter reach out with such kindness to make sure I was given the best experience picking out what I wanted. And then onto the dairy section where the most kind guy went above and beyond to find some kefir and he search for me through the store to bring me what I asked for. While we usually LOVE Met Market (and walked into this beautiful space absolutely giddy for more of the same), our chosen prepackaged sandwiches were not good. To be clear, we tossed one of them. So, REALLY not good. For the prices you pay at MM, you really expect everything to be fresh (and at least edible). The disappointing sandwiches acknowledged, we did purchase a pie that was incredibly delicious. And, everyone at our gathering who tried a piece raved about it. So, there was that :) This was our first time visiting this Gig Harbor location, so we will probably give it another try, but... they really do need to ensure they are holding to MM standards regarding quality and service (especially if they're charging the same high end prices). Pro Tip: Don't miss out on one of the famous MM cookies! They are perfectly crisp on edges and gooey in the middle! Glorious! read more

I also love all the plant based and vegan options this location carries; I actually think it's better than the one in Tacoma in that regard. Vegan items in the bakery section too! This place is the worst. They send out coupons but do not have the coupon item in stock. They will not substitute a similar item. The prices are already insanely high. Why send out BOGO coupons and not have the item in stock at 10 am Monday morning. They've lost me as a customer. read more

I love this place! I was so excited when we finally got one in Gig Harbor and I didn't have to go all the way to the proctor district anymore. Stop here is so helpful. They will stop what they're doing and take you to what you are looking for. The food is always fresh. I will never buy my fruits and vegetables from anywhere else as I can count on them not being rotten like at some other local grocery stores. The marionberry pie was a great disappointment. The crust was hard and difficult to cut with a fork, and the berries were not juicy. It was like gelatin was used to solidify it. Don't bother buying it. read more
