My friend is a customer there. This was the opposite at this store. After being passed off to the manager by a sales associate, she asked us if "we were there to buy shoes". Is this store a front for something else? What did she think we were in there for? I felt like we had to apologize for walking into the store. We were made to feel as if we were bothering them. Perhaps the employees could be taught to act happy or glad that we walked in. Perhaps they could engage in friendly conversation with customers. Suggest something! This could and should start with the manager. Who knows, with a little different attitude by these store employees, we might have bought something in this store. I do not recommend this shoe store in Astoria.

The store really shines in its housewares section, with a great selection that felt like a mix of practical finds and unique pieces--almost like a bit of Seattle charm made its way to the coast. The ladies behind the counter were genuinely friendly and welcoming, which made browsing even more enjoyable. Prices were low compared to the Goodwills we go to, and we had a great time digging through all the little treasures. It's the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time just exploring. This Supercenter seems a bit smaller than some of the other ones I have been to but I have also been to smaller models also so as far as size and variety goes it falls about in the middle. The Garden Center is quite a bit smaller than other store locations and therefore when it becomes a seasonal area for the holidays the selection there too is influenced. So all in all this store falls in the middle for most of all those things as far as my rating goes. I can say however whenever we are out in Aberdeen we usually are coming back from Westport, a favorite small town of ours to visit...we almost always swing by this Walmart on our drive to "powder our noses ".

I found out that they were really old shoes and should have been donated, instead of put in a sale. The foam rubber was coming out the sides of the soles. It had completely broken down. Because the owner has a policy of no returns if the shoes have been worn, (how can anyone not wear their shoes to find out if they work - stupid!!) not having the original receipt and not having the original packaging, no return or refund. I talked to a young man who was VERY SWEET who talked to the owner and she refused to refund my money even though they were clearly defective. I've worked in retail here on the island since 2017 and every place I've worked, we give full refunds with no questions asked. That is the mark of a good business owner. A bad business owner puts profit and greet over their customers and community. If she was there, she didn't even have the courage to come out and face me herself, which makes her a coward as well.

Then he'd go into the stockroom in the back and return with a few boxes of shoes in your size to try on and he'd help you with the fit. For the most part, all that's gone now. And that's why I was delighted to discover that Beck's Shoes still gives that same personal shoe sizing and fitting service I remember from years ago. Kevin, the shoe salesman on duty, was the personification of the highly trained and experienced shoe professional I was hoping for. But what made him truly valuable for me was his understanding of the balance and other issues I face with peripheral neuropathy because he deals with it, too. Before I stepped onto the foot measuring device he held up an arm and fist for me to cling to because he knew I was afraid of falling. That was immense for me, and Kevin immediately became my buddy. Kevin was a marvel. While my wife and I were there, three other customers came in and Kevin showed us all personal attention without any of us feeling neglected. That's extremely hard for a one-person store and yet Kevin did it effortlessly while maintaining friendly and personal service with each of us. You bet I trusted whatever advice he had for me after that. I left the store with two pairs of New Balance shoes and two pairs of Aetrex insoles that both my podiatrist and Kevin suggested. I'm now walking far better and more comfortably despite my neuropathy thanks to my new buddy. This store has a huge stock of shoes so finding the model you like in the size you need should be fairly easy. They sell a bunch of accessories, too. What's cool about the store is all the photos documenting the chains 105 year history. And that says something: The likes of Thom McAn and Kinney Shoes are long gone but Beck's Shoes is thriving. The chain offers exceptional customer service that should never be considered old-timey, and fair prices, discounts and rewards. It's the only place I'm buying shoes from now on.

Dude did an AMAZING job making the new rubber sole fit with the original shoe. They look BRAND NEW (and these are shoes I've worn heavily for a few years).
