After hearing this bakery was on so many network TV shows I couldn't wait to try it. Walking in we quickly noticed there was a slim selection of bake good items. Since they have won first place for their cupcakes we chose a red velvet cheesecake cupcake, and a R.O. Apple cider cupcake. We could not have been more disappointed. The cupcakes were cold like they just came out of the refrigerator, and did not taste fresh. They were also dense and lacking flavor with an overpowering sweet frosting. I definitely will not be returning.

SO impressed with the cupcakes/Big Daddy cupcake we got for my daughter and husbands bday. I reached out to Hardcore Sweet Bakery because they advertised being allergen free; there is a child with a peanut allergy in my daughters class, and even though they probably wouldn't be consuming the cupcake I wanted to make sure we were safe on all fronts. Not only were they delicious and moist, but the icing was perfect and they were decorated so well - simple but just what I had wanted. And the service we received was a plus! Will definitely be using Hardcore Sweet again for future celebrations

"My grandma and your grandma Were sittin' by the fire…read moreMy grandma told your grandma "I'm gonna set your flag on fire" (Dr. John) Abuela, Bubbe, Grand-mère, Oma, Avó, Obā-chan, Nǎi Nai, or Ammamma are terms of endearment to say "Grandma" around the globe. In Italy, the word is "Nonnie" which just happens to be the name of an amazing Italian bakery we visited today. To be honest, calling Nonni's a "bakery" really shortchanges Grandma, because it is SO much more than that. Yes, of course they sell an incredible variety of beautifully crafted cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and cannolis, but you can also buy breakfast sandwiches, pizza, stromboli, arancino, stuffed breads, grinders, chicken cutlets and more. Their store is awesome, and you'll find yourself staring at their showcases and refrigerated cases. Service is top notch, with plenty of helpful and smiling folks helping you. We picked up an eclectic group of odds and ends - croissants, donuts, danishes, and a big arancini stuffed with meat and vegetables. We attacked that first as an appetizer with dinner, and it was terrific. I can't wait to sample the rest of their wares. PRO TIP Their Italian cookies look amazing, and we will definitely be back to supply our Thanksgiving dessert table with their Rainbow and Birthday Cake cookie cubes.

I used to frequent the original location and Franklin Ave back when I was going out in Hartford…read more Back then, it was very busy, you had to wait and depending on who you got, language was Italian with enough English to get by.. Not a bad thing, just how it was. Stopped into the Plainville location yesterday because I was there and it was there. Have not been a big fan of expansion as in the New Haven pizza world, quality and consistency has suffered. That was my fear with Mozzicatto. However, as they are one of the few who make a ricotta pasticiotti, so I go. I bought 3 of the ricotta and a ricotta square (noticing a pattern here?) which were delicious and were as good as they were 25 years ago. They were fresh, form and the filling was delicately sweet. While I can't speak for all the desserts, they still seem to know what they are doing. It's not easy maintaining this type of specialty business as the market of patrons and tastes is a bit different. IMO, they remain a gem and I am thankful the kids have endeavored to stay true to what brought them success. It is pricy compared to the crap you can buy at the supermarket/Costco? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes. I will not pass Mozzicato's without stopping. You shouldn't either. Salute!

The cake looked great, though it did seem a bit stale, but of course it's always fun to see what's on display in the cases (those Easter lambs are adorable ).
