I used to frequent the original location and Franklin Ave back when I was going out in Hartford. Back then, it was very busy, you had to wait and depending on who you got, language was Italian with enough English to get by.. Not a bad thing, just how it was. Stopped into the Plainville location yesterday because I was there and it was there. Have not been a big fan of expansion as in the New Haven pizza world, quality and consistency has suffered. That was my fear with Mozzicatto. However, as they are one of the few who make a ricotta pasticiotti, so I go. I bought 3 of the ricotta and a ricotta square (noticing a pattern here?) which were delicious and were as good as they were 25 years ago. They were fresh, form and the filling was delicately sweet. While I can't speak for all the desserts, they still seem to know what they are doing. It's not easy maintaining this type of specialty business as the market of patrons and tastes is a bit different. IMO, they remain a gem and I am thankful the kids have endeavored to stay true to what brought them success. It is pricy compared to the crap you can buy at the supermarket/Costco? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes. I will not pass Mozzicato's without stopping. You shouldn't either. Salute! read more

Mozzicato Bakery was so sweet and helpful when we placed a last-minute cake order, totally saved the day! The cake looked great, though it did seem a bit stale, but of course it's always fun to see what's on display in the cases (those Easter lambs are adorable ). Thus far my experiences haven't been disappointing with Mozzicato's. The ratings seem to be bad up here, so there must be some inconsistency or just staff members that aren't as pleasant. Per my visit, the establishment had a pleasant ambiance, & felt welcoming. This time we had decided to grab another mixed cookie batch, which I unfortunately didn't photograph. The batch we went with included some rainbow cookies, black/white cookies, almond cookies, coconut macaroons, and some other options. I will say that they do have a nice selection of cookies and other pasties, which is nice! We also ended up taking one of their pies home, they had a few options available that day. We decided on their Nutella & ricotta pie, super interesting flavors together. To be honest, I was hesitant but I ended up really liking this combination, & everyone else agreed. I also felt that the crust of the pie was decent and noticed it had sugar lightly coating it. For this one, I would recommend keeping it refrigerated if not eating right away. read more

Every single time I get pastries from here, whether it's a cake, a cannoli, a cookie I always regret it. Do they look pretty? Yes. The flavor however low quality and lacking. The price point is too high for such a low quality pastries. The chocolate cake didn't even taste like chocolate, the cannolis had no sweetness to them whatsoever which also meant no flavor. Not worth eating. The cheesecake square was somewhat decent. Is the building pretty? Yes, are they open late on a Sunday? Yes. I'm torn between leaving a 2 or 3 for Mozzicatos. I've been here a few times. They have ample offerings of cookies, cakes and pastries. However nothing is labeled with what it is in the display cases and nothing is labeled with prices. There is no board listing prices either. Everything is guess as you order. In the past when I have inquired with the staff what a specific cookie or pastry was, the staff looked annoyed to have to elaborate as they just wanted to get my order processed and get through the line of customers. Solid bakery. Plenty of options and beautiful cakes. The quality is decent-- I don't love their cakes/ frosting but I'm a little picky so can't dock them on that one. Got an Italian Rum cake this morning. The woman who helped me could not have been nicer to me and the man before me. The cake was not good. The filling tasted spoiled and absolutely no rum flavor. Went there on a Saturday afternoon with my daughter because I was craving a good cappuccino with the nice pastry next to it. I have to be honest and say that I was disappointed that I didn't receive the cappuccino in the famous mug.II will definitely try the other locations because I love the pastries that they make and I love second chances. Plainville location was very busy ,people were in and out , with a nice flow and 3 people at the counter. My daughter had the chocolate rainbow cookies (her favorite) and I tried one of the rum baba . They offer to fill it up with vanilla cream for me which I thought it was a nice touch however I ended up having it just the way it was ,with lots of syrup. This Mozzicato is smaller than the original one. I was there on a Saturday afternoon. Most of the cakes were sold out. So went with a blueberry pie, which as ok. Their chocolate dipped almond cookie was really good. It was a hard cookie, with a lot of almond inside. It looked small, but single cookie was heavier than I thought. read more

Terrible treatment by the owner of this buisness! After over 10 years of being a loyal customer, I was treated with such disrespect and disregard. All my husband wanted for his birthday was a vanilla cake with raspberry mousse. Easy enough! Unfortunately, we received a chocolate cake with raspberry mousse. No one likes chocolate cake in our house, so I called to notify them the cake was wrong. We weren't angry, we just simply wanted what we ordered. They again remade the cake but this time with raspberry jam and a lot of it. Hate complaining but again, just wanted what we ordered. That's all. The owner called me back and suggested I come in for a refund and take my business elsewhere. I have been a loyal customer since moving to Plainville for all of our cakes. I have never complained. In this instance, we just simply wanted what we paid for. I received no apology from the owner. In fact, he told me I ordered a cake incorrectly by saying vanilla instead of white cake. Somehow, I got chocolate though. Moving forward, I will warn all of my friends and family to stay far away from this bakery. I've never really understood the appeal of this bakery. Every time I try an item, and it really doesn't matter which location it's from, all I get is the taste of old oil. I guess I get it ... they've been, as a whole, around for awhile. People get comfortable. Coffee is great. Customer service is good. Everyone appears to really love being there. However, Being an outsider, not from Connecticut, I prefer smaller, more mom and pop bakeries, and I've been to a few that was tremendous! That's where the magic is. Being out of town, I was looking online for a local bakery for a nice arrangement of cookies to give as a gift and sent a family member to pick them up after I paid over the phone for a 4lb cookie platter. The arrangement looked nothing like it does on line and I was actually quite embarrassed to give it as a gift. The cookies are vacuum sealed so tight the cookies are broken and crumbled. Mozzicato's used to be my favorite Italian bakery for cookies. From 2021 to 2023, I frequently ordered a pound of Italian cookies, and they were primarily delicious, although a few were stale, they were still a big hit at my house. However, a few days ago, in January 2024, I decided to order some Italian cookies again, and this time, they were awfully stale and tasted like soap. It was almost as if the cookies were sitting out for weeks, absorbing whatever cleaning products or chemicals/soaps were in the air. I know this is disgusting and probably too much information, but I had to spit the cookies out because they were that grotesque. It was disappointing, to say the least, and a waste of money. Terrible, don't waste you're money. This used to be a phenomenal place to get your Italian pastries but these days, the quality of baked goods has gone down (things are frozen/rock hard) and the quality of staff has gone down even further. They just aren't friendly these days.. Mangiaficos on the other hand, great staff, great food and prices that make sense. I ordered a cake. My granddaughter picked out her mothers cake and wanted rainbows on the cake. They said they could not do rainbows but they could do rainbow color flowers. When we picked up the cake it looked horrible. The flowers were not rainbow color at all. It was so obvious my granddaughter said "that's not rainbow colors and my moms birthday is ruined". The cake itself was disgusting. Buttercream was to be the frosting. It was way too sweet for buttercream and there was entirely too much frosting on the cake. More frosting than cake actually.
