At 9:30pm, they were open and that's good for a star right there. The store was well stocked and the cashier who rang up my purchase was quick and friendly and humorous. As supermarkets go, it seemed a bit less bright and a bit less fancy than some, but the merchandise was well stocked, there were no carts outside needing to be returned and there was no trash. I found a good snack in the deli area even though it was closed and wrapped up. Shelves were tidy, the floors were clean and really, that was enough for A-OK. I'm not sure, but I'm just going out on the line here and guessing that the owner or the store manager of the store is extremely old. I mean that no disrespect.. It is just very apparent and the merchandise that is carried in the store and lack there of. Things that are very popular or always readily available anywhere else, you won't be able to get here. Like energy drinks,toiletries etc. the food has to be checked for expiration dates because they always sell food way past the date on the shelves. With the prices you may as well go to fresh and thyme and get decent,quality food. It's so expensive and older feeling inside I'm not sure how it outlasted the pharmacy in the same the same parking lot. I only go here bc it's the closest to my house but only when nothing else is open. Very sad this is what my neighborhood has to offer. The store needs to be updated and renovated. With the money it costs to shop there it shouldn't also look like walking into 1950's. I do like and appreciate the nice and helpful staff They are great,no complaints. read more

Extremely unprofessional staff, just visiting back in the old neighborhood for the weekend. It used to be a fairly decent store to shop, that is no longer the case. The cashier, while checking out the people in front of me kept repeated a dollar amount figure in thousands, $10.50 was stated at $10,050.00 due Then while standing there a customer walked up to inform them that their bottle/can return was full. She made a derogatory remark saying; how do you know it's full, can't you read.. "it says do not open, ask staff for help." The guy looked baffled and indicated there was a guy back there that showed him it was full on the screen, as well as the door had been opened by the guy using the bottle return. Then she stopped checking people out and made incendiary comments about the man that just informed her it was full. Not professional or relational, just plain mean and nasty! The people behind me, and in front of me in line ALL commented that this is normal for this location? Everyone has shopping choices, my sister that lives down the street indicated that's the norm for this Harding's staff. read more

I'm going to be generous with the rating because this neighborhood store seems to be improving a bit. The other reviews are absolutely right: in years past you had to be very careful not to buy outdated (sometimes VERY much past their sell-by date) items, including things that would be spoiled or unsafe to consume. I complained to corporate and finally heard back from the local manager, who apologized but didn't really take responsibility for any the detailed, specific problems I documented. Lame and unprofessional. Over the past 3-5 years, things have started to improve: minor store remodeling, better general cleanliness, more cordial checkout service, and some improvement in the limited stock. Still, you can't find much produce here, and we don't get our meat or seafood here either. In sum, it's not as bad as it once was, and seems to be on a slow uphill climb to improvement. Best for quick stops for staples, so you can avoid the long trips wading through a cavernous store like Meijer, and much cheaper of course than D&W (but also generally lower quality overall). read more

Hardings Friendly Market, specifically this location has been anything but friendly. The least friendly individual at this location is the the general manager who oversees this location. Overall: pretty dated, limited selection of items, over-priced, stagnation with rotation of products (lots of dust on products). Produce selection is poor and this section of the store is usually filled with fruit flies. This location is incredibly convenient to my home, however, the service and store quality is so poor I drive to other grocery stores much further away. read more

I have to totally agree with the first review. You have to watch for outdated items. The dust is a clue. The manager is not friendly and the cashiers are marginally so. Two years ago I thought they were going to do a remodel and I was excited. Like the first reviewer, this store is convenient for me and I like that. The remodel was nothing more than a little add on to the front. Other Hardings stores will carry out groceries and this is non existent here. It's too bad this store isn't a friendly, clean, and up to date with industry standards. Our neighborhood deserves this. read more

I recently visited Hardings Friendly Market on Cork Street and was pleasantly surprised by the wonderful service I received. I do most of my day to day shopping at Meijer (Walmart is out of the question) but on this particular day, I only needed a few items and did not want to go through the hassles that come with a large store. First off, there were several people stocking shelves (but not in the large cart blocking off the isle kind of way) - so when I needed help, I had no problem locating anyone. Not only were the stockers happy to help, but they knew without question what I was talking about and where I could find it. When I got to the check out with my small cart of items, I was happy to see that several lanes were open and that the wait would not be long at all. All lanes had two people: a cashier and a bagger... a tradition I thought had all but vanished. The two young gentlemen on my lane were both very polite, while also working quickly. They also gave me the option of whether I wanted paper or plastic... I hadn't heard that one for a while either. When the process was complete and I was prepared to push my small cart of groceries out to the car, I came to notice that they were loaded onto a two-wheeled grocery cart. My husband and I looked at each other in shock as the pleasant bag boy smiled from behind the cart and insisted that he would take them out for us. Over all, I was entirely impressed. I had gotten used to the big store grocery mentality whereby people are expected in many cases to do their own work. For the small number of items I purchased, I would have been in a U-Scan at Meijer, scanning and bagging each item myself (as normal lines are WAY too long) then putting the money into the machine, taking my own receipt and listening to a machine tell me thank you... Instead, Hardings provided a look back into the good old days, where people are still important. Yes the prices are a bit higher there, but I would rather pay a bit more when knowing that they still opt to hire employees rather than machines... a rarity these days. Rather than replacing their baggers with a "cost effective" rotating bagging rack, they have decided to provide jobs for a few extra people... BRAVO HARDINGS! read more

I really like shopping at this store when I need some items and don't have the time or inclination to venture into a mega store in town. This is a basic necessities store where the staff is friendly, helpful and available. These are not fancy groceries, but it is convenient and that is important for busy folks. read more
