They say that you should never grocery shop hungry, so I really appreciate H&B offering complimentary popcorn while you shop. They have some really good prices on sale beer (I'll let you know by the time it's put on sale, it's past it's prime of freshness), some legit baked goods, and an incredible butchery. The grocery and produce is generally a bit overpriced -- basically what you'd expect from a neighborhood grocery store -- but it's convenient when you need one or two things. They also have one of the best prices in town on propane tank refills for your gas grill. But I would think twice about buying firewood there -- It look like everything they had in stock was moldy when I last visited. read more

This little grocery store is located on a strip of land between West Lake and Austin Lake, with views of both from the parking lot. As such they've found a niche in supplying lake residents -- in the summer being out-of-towners, such as from Chicago -- with all the necessities for casual living and partying at the family vacation home. The first clue is the bundles of firewood at the entrance for campfires on the beach. Inside, you will find a great supply of beer, snacks, baked goods, deli foods, and most importantly, fresh cut steaks and other meats prepared by their own butchers. (Today I saw three at work and should've thought to snap a photo for Yelp.) But of course, you don't have to live at the lake to benefit from the convenience of shopping here and enjoying its selection of quality foods. Our favs include their freshly baked hot dog and hamburger buns, bread, cookies, donuts and other pastry items. The deli is a good stop for a quick lunch; they sell individually wrapped sandwiches and subs that include packets of condiments, plus sides such as pints of potato, macaroni and other salads. People also will drive to shop here for its reputable meat department. H&B isn't a "fancy" grocery store with soft lighting and organic foods -- although the installation of wood flooring throughout was a nice upgrade -- but it is exceptional at what it does as a friendly, locally-owned, quick in-and-out grocery store with its own specialty indulgences. If you don't already, come here. If you live nearby, this is a fantastic Hardings-style grocery store. The kicker is they have a fantastic bakery, make fantastic sausages, make great potato and egg salad, and overall have great employees. I just love H & B Market. I walk in, grab a small bag of free popcorn, and stroll immediately to the bakery department followed by the meat department. While their selection of fresh-baked goods isn't as large as an actual bakery, they do make them there and they are delicious. As for the meat department...fresh, creative, good prices! What more could you want...except a propane refill, which as of this writing continues to be just $15.99. read more

Great little grocery market, good variety of product for the size and hands down one of the best meat departments in southwest mich. prices are reasonable and the service is excellent and usually comes with a smile & a greeting. I like the meat variety but the employees are very rude, there was one women who was friendly but I lived down the road so I was in there quite a bit, I refuse to go in there after the time I walked in with my son in his strolle, I bouth a few things for dinner than after I walked out a cashier chased me outside to check the stroller, after he seen I didn't steal anything he didnt apologize, he just walked right back inside, I was embarrased and appauled at the situation, In my opinion some of the employees really need to pull the sticks out of there asses. read more
