I ordered a mixed shawarma plate, with Lebanese salad and fries. It came with a side of toum. The portions were good, and the food came out hot, but something was off. The food wasn't seasoned, like, at all. No salt on the fries, no seasoning on the meat. The meat also didn't have the char I'm used to getting. Definitely a head scratcher. The Real Shawarma King, on Drake Road, is THE BEST Middle Eastern in the Kalamazoo area. Doing carry out or eat in, the service is great, they even offer a discount if paying cash. My favorites are the chicken shawarma wrap or falafel wrap. The hummus is outstanding, we also add some of the garlic sauce to it for "extra yummy" hummus. It is the smoothest, creamiest hummus I've ever eaten. The location needs a larger Parking lot however I wouldn't want them to move. Shwarma King is a fantastic spot in Kalamazoo. The food is excellent in quality and highly authentic. I got the Shish Tawook dinner plate with rice and french fries. The chicken was perfectly grilled and was so moist. It had an excellent charbroiled flavor with a wonderful marinade that had an earthy spice. The rice was perfectly cooked and moist and it complemented the chicken very well along with the fries. It also comes with a dip, which I believe was toum or garlic mayo. This place has me giving it a 4/5, however, because the restaurant itself. The floors, walls, and corners seemed like they haven't been cleaned in ages. It was really unappetizing to look at and I stopped being hungry while waiting for my food. The wonderful dishes were a good distraction from the ambience. It was my first time trying a burrito style shawarma (rice inside the wrap) and it did not disappoint. Ifff I get a chance to visit them again I would ask if they would switch out the rice for fries inside the shawarma sandwich - Yummm! Customer service was fast and smooth. My husband and I dropped in for an early dinner. Although, we did dine in it seemed more like a take out place. The girls that greeted us and served us were very friendly and attentive. The dine in area itself was little to be desired though, the floors were dirty and the whole area was a bit dingy. My husband ordered the chicken shawarma and it was so dry he could not eat it, although he did say his French fries were very good. I ordered a combo plate with beef shawarma and shish tawook. The beef Shawarma was a bit dry, but the shish tawook was very good. My meal also included tabbouli, grape leaves, hummous and falafel and they also were all very good. Not sure why the chicken and beef shawarma were dry, maybe an off night, not sure. If I do go back, I definitely would do take out and order a little different and probably avoid the shawarma. read more

I could rave about the quality and flavor of the food for days. Perfectly cooked and seasoned, fresh ingredients and amazing presentation. They have an extensive menu selection that is sure to please all members of your party. What will bring us back is the service and hospitality received. Upon arriving, we were instantly greeted with menus and drinks. I wish I grabbed the names of the gals working up front, because they were all AMAZING. Fast, friendly and very patient and knowledgable. Their smiles alone are enough to keep us coming back! As we were cashing out at the counter, we had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Nidal. He was MORE than incredible, as he went above and beyond to introduce himself, ask about our time at his restaurant and in the Kalamazoo area, and even went out of his way to provide us with free samples of their amazing hummus and addictive tea. I truly cannot remember that last time I had such a personable and enjoyable experience at an establishment. Our whole group was blown away but how amazing our experience at Shawarma King was. As cliche as it is, you can really taste the love and passion in the food. We have already made plans to return next week! Got the Chicken shawarma wrap with feta, along with the fattoush salad and lentil soup. Also had a Turkish coffee. The salad was large and the soup was very flavorful. The wrap was amazing, full of chicken and very flavorful. Amount of chicken to pickles was perfect to give it a nice tiny bite. Yikes, the Turkish coffee will definitely put hair back on your head! Outstanding lunch for me. Daughter got Veggie Combo and a side of hummus. She enjoyed all of her items and said they were fresh tasting and full of flavor. All items came out quickly and was very tasty. During the meal, the Owner came out and talked with the customers. He was raving about his employees and how his main hostess/waitress has been working with him since she has been 16 years old. He calls all of his employees "family" and does not consider them just a number. The employees were joking with him, so you can tell he is a wonderful and caring owner. One other thing I enjoyed was the HUGE "Masks Required" on the door. Everyone was wearing a mask, including kitchen staff. Tables and menus were sanitized between customers. Clean place! Go here!
