For an establishment that specializes in drinks you would think they would employ a personal bartender who is accommodating. This guy dictates what type of ice goes in your drink. Awesome decor and atmosphere. Incredible beer and liquor selection. Waiter was attentive and knowledgeable BUT let's get to reason for 2 stars. We had a party of about 16, we had reservations and arrived on time. Upon ordering our first drink we warned the waiter we would be on separate checks. (Mostly couples with a few single people) he assured us it would be no problem and that everyones tabs were by their seat number. After asking for our check we waited OVER AN HOUR. No explanations, no apologies, nothing. After questioning who we thought was the manager he had nothing to say and ran off into the back. Another gentleman came out who we now assumed was the manager, he also had nothing to say about the issue and disappeared right away. No one ever formally came forward and introduced themselves as management. No apologies, no compensation, nothing. Shame, because the atmosphere, food, and drink were great but we will NEVER be returning. Just plain disrespectful. read more

And oasis in the Westside Aurora's food desert, however upon entering this artsy and creative building we were not greeted with a friendly smile. We were curtly asked if we had reservations. Telling them we would like to be seated out on the patio we were asked to wait 15 minutes for a table but there obviously several tables open at the time. Staff was slow and extremely inattentive. The drinks we were served, very high-priced designer drinks and never asked if we would like another. Food portions were small, lacked seasoning..."cheffy" yes...but flavor not so much. Many staff running around but yet no one bothered to remove our dishes, ask us for a second drink or see if we needed anything. They were only moderately busy at the time. I'm hoping most of this is due to the learning curve but atmosphere alone will not keep us coming back. read more

Have only made my way through the appetizer and greens portion of the food menu and from what I've had, it's been pretty good. I'd suggest the pork pancakes as a can't miss, especially if the quail egg is cooked correctly (yolk has to be slightly runny for this dish to be amazing. Have had it served slightly over cooked and didn't think as much of the stack :-). It ties the app together. The whisky selection is large and in charge. Will probably never make it through that! Only minor complaint I have is that the inside is very loud but when you're full to capacity, I suppose that's to be expected. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this place. We had reservations but arrived a little early & were seated at the bar. They told us to just let them know when we were ready for our table & weren't in a hurry to get us out of the bar, which was nice that they were so flexible. Once we were at the table, I was a little skeptical because I have some food allergies & a lot of brew pubs dont have much I can eat, but Hardware has an allergen friendly menu & our waiter was very knowledgeable & helpful when I let him know my restrictions. The brisket tacos are phenomenal as well as most of the desserts (yes, we had most of them)! The whiskey menu is outstanding as well as the hand crafted cocktails...the best I've seen anywhere around! My husband loved all the beers he had & everyone left full & happy! It's pretty pricey, but definitely worth it. We'll be back for sure! read more

My brother had an allergic reaction to nuts at this restaurant. They clearly labeled most of the items with nuts so he thought it was safe to order the tacos. I guess there were cashews in the aioli, which our waitress knew after the fact, without even checking with the kitchen. He had to be rushed to the hospital. Then the manager had the gall to bring the bill to my mom for the full amount of our dinner. Eat at your own risk. read more

Hardware is right down the street from our house. I like it because it is unique and different than anything else around. The only downfall is that, for your picky eater, there is almost nothing that will appeal to them. However, for seasoned foodies it is amazing! They have a huge selection of whiskey, unique beers, and their own vodka. The only things I would change is the portion size. Some dishes have a rather large portion size but others could leave you feeling a bit hungry. Also, I would love to see a few more desserts added to the menu. Aside from that, my husband and I will continue to recommend and frequent hardware. read more

From the ambience to the service(thanks Melissa) to the most important part the FOOD...the bison burgers were probably the best burgers we have ever eaten....you get a choice of sides and we would recommend the yukon smashed potatoes...the octopus appetizer and green salad were so fresh and flavorful...it's even cooler that most of the food, herbs, and beer were made on site....amazing...everything came out at a perfect temperature whether cold or hot...we would definitely recommend the Hardware Gastro Pub to everyone!! read more

The reviews do not do them justice. The design is beautiful and when our waitress told us the owner designed it himself without hiring anyone out I was very impressed. It is such a unique concept that you would not normally see in the burbs. They have their own greenhouse and grow their own hops. Pretty much everything is made in how much! I suggest trying their beer fights as you can get an idea of the different types of beer they brew. Also their sausage and meats are amazing! I would suggest getting the Chicago dog! First time visiting and came with a party of 8. Seating was prompt and a large round table in a corner with a level of privacy was nice. Waitress was pleasant but the history/concept lesson was excessive. One thing we should have been told was the correct special seafood option but we weren't. Two non-meat eating diners found the menu particularly limited. I ordered the beef brisket. The sauce was tasty but the beef was nothing spectacular. It was served with au gratin style potatoes which were very cheesy and rich. The root vegetable salad was the best thing I selected. It was tasty and the freshly grown greens were delicious. Two diners chose the house made ravioli. Neither one enjoyed it. The pasta was undercooked, far short of al dente and filling was really skimpy. Three diners selected the pheducken pot pie and loved it. If that sounds like something you might enjoy, go for it. One person selected the market catch but was disappointed when it was served but wasn't the type of fish the waitress said it would be. She brought it to the table and apologized and said I hope salmon is ok as she placed it on the table. The diner doesn't eat salmon and declined it. All other diners were nearly done with their meals when her alternative meal arrived. Apologies were made by the waitress and the manager but no offer of check adjustment or dessert to try to make things better was extended. I am not likely to return. read more

If you like charcouterie, you need to give this place a try - they have a great menu! Wait staff is professional and management accommodating for special events. We brought in a special bottle of wine for an anniversary and they were happy to serve it for us (for a reasonable fee). Definitely worth the short drive from Geneva/St Charles/Batavia. read more

One of our favorite restaurants. All things are very, very good and most absolutely delicious. Service is great. We just had their take-out Thanksgiving dinner, and it was terrific! The turkey was so moist, and the smoking made it divine. Some of the best turkey ever. All of the sides (dressing, potatoes, gravy, cran-citrus relish etc) were great. Especially liked the elote corn, which was a very flavorful addition. Very reasonable price, generous portions, and easy pick up. I am a beer and brewery fanatic and I absolutely love this place. The building itself is stunning, well-decorated, and has a very relaxing feeling to it. Hardware has delicious beer and a nice flight presentation. The food is also amazing. My favorite is the grannie's grilled cheese and my husband loves the BLT and the brisket. I've also tried a few of their salads and have always been impressed because everything has tasted so fresh and the dressings are great. Some people I know think this place is too expensive, but honestly I think the prices are very fair for the quality of the food. I've also noticed that Hardware has a nice selection of whiskies, though I didn't try any. This would definitely be a cool place for whisky lovers to check out. The food was really good. Different, and extremely well executed. This actually lives up to the promise of the whole fresh and local concept. Will be returning again for sure. Had the seasonal Roasted Beets which was better than anything of the sort I have ever had outside of France in beet season. I highly recommend this place. The outside seating is really relaxing and beautiful. We had the flight off their in-house beers first which was great since everything we tasted was highly different and the price was great. The chacuttiere boards are a must since they give such different tastes and textures of meats and cheeses. Great for wine lovers! Our entrees were both filled with such well rounded flavors and were the perfect portion sizes. Hardware has done an amazing job during COVID. They limit reservations. Take temps before entry AND have plastic walls between all tables for improved safety. The food is OUTSTANDING! We have been here a few times lately and look forward to going back again. The charcuterie is the best we've ever had and we get it everywhere it's offered. Love the Turf Room so thought we would try Hardware. Went on a Saturday night for date night with another couple. Had reservations at 7, showed up at 5:30 for cocktails on the patio. Awesome atmosphere, friendly service, drinks were very good and cool, dinner food was good, but....everything took forever! Just drinks were over 20 minutes. Dinner was a 3 hour dinner. We wanted to try dessert, but ran out of time to get back to our sitter. It was steady, but not busy, many open tables. I think can be successful, but be prepared to wait a long time for everything- will stick to the Turf Room. read more
