I stumbled upon this place on accident. While I was looking to find a place to grab a quick bite as I was running errands, 302 Wheaton popped up. From the parking lot, the restaurant looks like it's set in a movie scene from Hallmark. It is in the beginning portion of downtown Wheaton and aesthetically pleasing. Upon walking in, you walk straight into the ordering counter and to the left is seating and merchandise. The service was great and faster than I expected on a busy Saturday afternoon. My sister and I ordered the Single Patty 302 Burger. She got all the fixings, while I opted to customize mine. This burger is amazing and should cost more than $7.50! The fries or onion rings for $3!!! The onion rings are the bomb!!! They remind me of Sonic, but better! Fresh! My sister had the Oreo milk shake and stated that it was amazing!! Love this place! 302 Wheaton has quickly become one of my favorite local spots. The burgers are seriously some of the best I've had--super juicy without being greasy, and the size is just right. Not ridiculously huge, but still filling. Plus, you can customize them with tons of toppings, which is always a win. The fries are delicious, but the portion feels pretty small for $5.50. That's my only gripe--would love just a little more bang for the buck there, so taking off one star for that. They've also got a great rotating beer selection with lots of options, including some local brews. We usually grab a table on the patio--such a nice, relaxed vibe out there, especially on a sunny day. It's just a solid, chill spot for a casual meal. The food here is very average I feel for the hype this place gets. It's pretty pricy for what you're getting, and they upcharge for everything possible. ex: 50 cents upcharge for whipped cream on your milkshake just seems bizarre. It's also very family oriented despite having a bar and it's guaranteed that you cannot eat here without having children running around you the entire time. If it's something you don't mind then great, but definitely something to consider if you don't want that experience. The two worst things about my visit were - The line was seriously long, but it was a springtime Friday at 5:30p. - The old-fashioned was made by people too young to know how to properly make it, and it tasted like it. It was not good. Other than that, I enjoyed my visit. We had a party of 4. As packed as it was, we were able to find seating with no issues. I enjoyed the small-town feel of this restaurant. Kids were running around, music was playing, the Bulls game was on tv, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they sell wine & spirits. It was utopian. The employees are nice. They didn't nickel and dime me for all of the bbq sauce that I asked for. I know the food was good bc my two boys demolished their chicken tenders without hesitation! The menu is limited and geared toward families. The menu includes burgers, hot dogs, chilli, fries, tots, grilled cheese. This is a nice fast food option similar to five guys, that burger joint, etc. You'll order at the counter and pick up at the pick up window. The restaurant is really open and spacious. They have a nice outdoor seating area as well. It's in the center of a shopping complex. I ordered the 302 single burger. It was cooked perfectly. I would definitely get this again! Great place, loses one star because the menu digitally with their QR code doesn't match the menu they have on their board, makes ordering a pain because I couldn't see the actual menu if I didn't go up to make the order Otherwise, food was good, not amazing but if I was in the area and wanted good prices and good food, I would definitely think of 302. Been here a few other times. Always good. New appreciation for the outdoor seating and that you can bring your dog too! The tables all have umbrellas and there is a pergola above the other tables. The garage doors were open to allow indoor/ outdoor seating with ac! Our food came so fast we couldn't believe it! I got the double impossible burger. Always makes me wonder if it's really vegan! My family got the chicken and hamburgers. All so nice and thin. Thick pickles and lettuce, onion and tomato. The fries were thin, a tiny bit too salty but I do love me some salt, maybe say no salt if you don't like or want salt.This place is way cool, we walked past one night and they had dumb and dumber projected in the brick wall to watch while eating!! We couldn't pass up enjoying the beautiful weather this weekend, so we stopped by 302 Wheaton for a few beers!! This spot gives me trendy concession stand vibes in the best way... The food is all straight forward (burgers, hot dog, chicken tenders, pretzels, fries, etc.) but I was impressed with the quality! The burger patty was flavorful and I loved the sauce. The pretzel was also huge and the mayo/spicy ketchup type dip for it was super tasty. I wouldn't come here for dinner on its own, but the food is very solid to compliment the beer and satisfy appetites! They have a huge variety of beer, and the combination of basics and local craft options was perfect. I enjoyed the lemonade beer from a Chicago brewery that I can't remember, as well as the wild berry seltzer!! They definitely have enough variety that anyone can find something they enjoy. The ambiance felt hit or miss - I loved the set up with the dog friendly patio, fireplace, and picnic tables. However, there were A LOT of kids running around screaming. They have projector floor games for kids, and it created enough excitement in the tent that it was hard to talk over their screaming. Both cheesy and surprisingly savory (they are apparently using some sort of special burger blend from the Wheaton Meat Company, and trust me, I noticed), the burger was well balanced and came out with the right flavor and texture. **Lactose Intolerance Review** I have lactose intolerance so I must take lactase pills to help digest dairy. Often I avoid dairy but some places are just too good to avoid. When my wife and I are in town, we stop here. It's a small burger spot with a large outdoor seating area. The burgers are great. I've never had a chorizo burger before and they have one. I've also had their Wheaton burger which is their take on a classic burger. It's great. The pretzel bun is worth the extra dollar too. The portion for fries is good for one person but not so big you can split the fries. The same goes for the burgers. For this type of burger space I was surprised with the number of draft beer options. They carry mostly Illinois micro brews. They also seem to source all their ingredients from local producers or vendors. I really appreciated that. The prices for the quality of food is the best part. I'm tired of paying 15+ dollars for a burger and getting nothing really special. This place charges 10 for their double burger, a dollar for a pretzel bun upgrade and two dollars for added bacon. The fully loaded burger would come to 13. Then if you get fries you're back to 15 dollars. These burgers are worth it. The staff are really friendly and helpful. We really to appreciate their positive attitude and hospitality. I'll say that with lactase pills I had little to no discomfort after my meal. They put American cheese on the burger. I would have appreciated the option to switch the cheese for cheddar. Cheddar is naturally low on n lactose. I still really enjoyed the meal. Worth it. read more
