If the prices are too good to be true there is usually a reason. I had a terrible experience with Hardwood Decking Deals. I purchased 640 feet of Ipe hardwood from them, I couldn't use it right away and when I finally inspected the wood,10 days later, I was shocked to find that 180 feet of it was cracked. If the wood was good it should have lasted 10 days in a garage. I stored it in an insulated garage 30 inches off the ground, following the recommended guidelines. When I reached out to Scott for assistance, his response was incredibly aggressive. He repeatedly claimed not to know how I stored or handled the wood, shifting blame to me. He offered no resolution and essentially washed his hands of any responsibility, despite 30% of the load being unusable. This level of customer service and product quality is unacceptable. I was shopping for decking during Covid and there were shortages everywhere. I happened to stumble across these guys and decided to check out Red Balau (I could not find my original choice anywhere and this was in stock) which I knew nothing about. I wanted to buy local in case of any issues. After I drove over to the business and saw the wood up close, I knew it would work for me. I bought 166 pieces. Delivery was within a few days. The best part was, overall out of 166 pieces, all of them were usable. No duds really. The quality of the wood was really good. And they were all totally straight. The employees I worked with on purchase and delivery were great. I am really impressed by the Red Balau. Its a beautiful wood, very strong, and costs much less than IPE or similar. I emailed HDD looking for lumber for a small project. Scott responded right away and patiently took the time to understand what I was looking for even though it's a very small project. HDD didn't currently carry the specific lumber I wanted, so Scott went above and beyond by getting me location and referring me to the nearest lumber yard that stocks what I was looking for, even providing me with business' phone number. The cost of the lumber at this yard was 60% less than special ordering it from other local places! Although I couldn't use HDD for this particular project, I can tell you that they have _excellent_ customer service and truly care about their customers' needs. Pretty good spot to buy material They offered every piece needed for installation of an Ipe deck. Fasteners, spacers, stains.. Everything needed to finish the project. You should know your footage and needs before calling for an estimate, be clear and request on email invoice. It helps a lot The only con is some people there can be rude when answering calls. Maybe their style of doing business but it was not helpful every time I called. The last time I called for an estimate I talked to Caesar and he was extremely helpful ! He spent the time on the phone to help me get my estimate and same day in person he helped me purchase and load material. $4000 in material I purchased because of Caesar. Thanks ! Ordered Kayu Borneo Plus Mahogany. Seems like a good product. Used for a driveway gate enclosure. This material in the picture was stained with a custom Sansin Eos stain. Talked to the owner before buying the product, seems like a nice guy. I was short about 16 linear feet so will be getting more this week. Wood grain and color is fairly consistent but doesn't matter for my project as I put a bold stain on to get the desired look. Only other suggestion is when I cut to length on a chop saw I only cut one side. Do take the time and cut both sides of the piece to get 1. Fresh cut for good stain penetration at end 2. I've been buying from these guys on and off again for about 6 years now. I'm a lifelong carpenter and have been building high end decks for many years. Ipe was the standard and I love working with it, but ever since I discovered Kayu I've never looked back. I'll visit decks I've built 6 years ago and all my miters are still as tight as the day I cut them. Any Ipe deck I've been back to see there are gaps from the wood shrinking. We exchanged emails and determined the scope of what I needed, pricing, blah, blah, blah. Here's the good part: Scott was honest, prompt, and gave me a resoundingly great deal. I purchased $10k worth of ipe decking because it was a good price. I had my contractor pick it up. When I got it to my house it was clear that this was very sub-par quality. It really appears that the way they get the price lower is by selling the ipe that would be considered rejects - 99% of what I received was unusable. I had to return it all and purchase my ipe somewhere else. I ended up paying more but I got quality wood. If you choose to buy from these guys you MUST personally look at each piece of wood before accepting it. Or, just buy from somewhere else, pay a little more but get good quality without all the hassle. In this case, you get what you pay for. read more

Upon initial contact Scott was informative and thorough, he was straight forward and honest. His warehouse is simple and easy to locate. He also stocks fasteners and though I did not go with his recommendation have no doubt that it will work well. His pricing is fair and I like the fact that he is an authorized dealer that imports the lumber himself.
