*Would Hire Again*…read more [Project Scope] Re-roof on a one story single family house, including new underlayment, drip edge, composite shingles, plus sheathing repairs and ventilation updates. FWIW, in my line of work we nit-pick over details & craftsmanship. I bring those expectations--for better or worse--to maintaining my house. Unsurprisingly, I tend to find some level of fault with any contractor. [Communication] The project manager (Danny) and front office (Melissa) were quick to answer the many questions I had via email, text, and phone. They were patient while I took my time selecting a contractor. They also coordinated directly with my solar contractor so the rooftop PV system was off the roof for no longer than necessary. The PM was out briefly each day to check the work and collect payment. [Availability] I didn't need the work done urgently, but Smart Roofing did start work within two weeks of signing the contract and finished within 3 days. [Warranty] One reason I chose this company was their standing as Owens Corning Platinum Preferred, which gets a workmanship warranty backed by Owens Corning (except the solar penetrations in our case), should the contractor ever go out of business. [Workmanship] Crews (separate tear-off and install) were on-time, respectful, and cleaned up each day. Overall, the work appears to be done well, though I'm no roofer. The way some of the holes in the roof were cut and flashings set did seem to be rushed, but so far it's watertight and that's what matters. The original sheathing had large gaps, which I asked to be fixed, although they may have done so without my asking, that wasn't communicated one way or another. They handled the addition of an exhaust vent flashing, relocation of a vent flashing, and removal of an unused vent flashing as per my request. [Issues] At some point, the furnace b-vent was pushed into the attic, breaking an elbow inside the attic. I ended up getting the part and doing the repair myself. Similar as well with the water heater b-vent: it was pushed down and crushed a section, but wasn't caught by the crew. Plus, the vent was reset at an angle so it's now pressed up against the house. Finally, while cleanup went fairly well, there was still trash and a few handfuls of nails scattered throughout the property, roof, and gutters--a small complaint and probably par for the course. Slightly-related... at no point did a Simi Valley building inspector come onto our property. For both inspections, a truck appeared across the street, yet no one got out. No looking at the back of the roof, no rooftop inspection, no check that sheathing was sound and work done correctly. What a joke, that $560 payment to the city. Decided to do a full roof underlayment replacement, searched on Yelp and received 4 quotes with almost identical materials from 4 different licensed roofers. Quote from Evi at Smart Roofing is the lowest with a bit more coverage, and Evi always answered my questions in a timely manner. Eventually signed a contract with Evi, project started in March during the hottest week. Evi kept me posted on a daily basis, and their crews are friendly and hard working, cleaned up before leaving every day. 1st day to demolition, 2nd day for city inspection and material delivery, then it took 3 days to complete the installation of Westlake Royal TileSeal HT underlayment. Smart Roofing offers unlimited plywood and tile replacement as needed, and they do not subcontract, all crewmembers are employed by Smart Roofing. Evi brought company's insurance document along with different underlayment samples when coming for an estimate, my project is backed by 10-year labor warranty and 30-year underlayment manufacturer warranty. Need to wait for the rain season to see how everything holds up, many thanks to Evi and all the crewmembers.

They are to a great degree capable and learner in the action that they do. Natan used to met with us every morning to go over what was to be improved & worked upon and toward the day's end checked in with us to perceive what had been done as such far. I am greatly happy with the work they did. I was also having issues with a developing divider and having it pummeled by termites. We had high hopes for this company, but the fence started having problems shortly after completion. Rain is causing the wood slats to separate. The latch doesn't close properly. I just don't feel the quality is worth the price they charged. Natan fixed something once, but how many times can you ask them to come back and fix what is shoddy work. Whenever I hire a contractor, I always make an effort to observe the workers to see how they do their job. With Angel(project manager) and his crew, however, I did not have a single incident where I thought they did a subpar job. It was always a pleasure to see how much attention they pay to the details. It was obvious that the crew takes pride in their work. It didn't take long before I felt perfectly comfortable to let them do their work and only check on the progress once in a while. Each time I go check, my spirit is lifted anew by all the fresh signs of quality workmanship. Besides the satisfaction with the workmanship, I much appreciate Angel's emphasis on safety. This is especially important to me because our deck is on a hillside. I was thrilled to see Angel's team putting in more than 50 deep footings(yes, I counted them), each one down to the bedrock supporting the deck. They constructed and erected…read morea 7ft. tall steel post and panel fence on two sides of our ADU (we wanted non-combustible material because the fence is close to the house, but the steel fencing has a wood pattern on our side and is white on the alley side). The fencing includes a 12 ft. long motorized rolling gate of the same material for our carport. At our request, the gate includes a pedestrian door within it! All of it is so sturdy and maintenance-free that I won't need to repair or replace it for the rest of my life. The fencing is perfectly straight and tall (even if my camera distorts the angles). Best of all, Aleksei and Vlad are great to work with: honest and punctual; affordable in price; hard workers; extremely communicative about every detail of the task (even though English is not their first language); creative in design and execution; and just plain wonderful people. They are too young to be jaded in their work; instead, they are enthusiastic about getting the best possible result. As they put it, "We want it to be strong and smooth." After the Eaton Fire, heavy winds and rain had blown away and damaged shingles on our roof. Water began leaking into one of our bedrooms and left water spots on the dining room ceiling. What could have been a nightmare repair project turned into a smooth and reassuring process thanks to the team at FHS Construction. From the start, the crew was thorough in their inspection and diagnosis. They quickly identified the source of the leak and checked for hidden damage in the roof and ceilings. To prevent more water from coming in, they put up a temporary cover right away until the full repair could begin. The roof repair itself was handled professionally from top to bottom. Damaged shingles and underlayment were removed and replaced, everything was thoroughly inspected and sealed tightly to prevent future problems. Inside the bedroom, they removed water-damaged drywall and insulation, treated and cleaned areas affected by moisture and mold, and ensured the space was completely dried out before restoring it. When the remediation was complete, they patched everything up with new drywall, fresh paint, trim work and new carpet so the room looked as good as new. The same attention was given to the dining area ceiling where water spots had formed. The crew was consistently punctual--showing up on time every morning--and respectful of our home. They cleaned up after themselves daily, and even arranged for a professional cleaner to come through once the project was finished, which was a thoughtful touch. A special shoutout goes to Javier, the project manager. He kept us informed at every stage, explained what was happening, and always had answers for our questions. He also went above and beyond by helping us communicate with our insurance provider, State Farm. His guidance made a big difference in getting a fair payout to cover the damages. On top of that, he made a kind personal gesture by surprising my wife with a birthday card and a bouquet of flowers during the project -- a thoughtful gesture that meant a lot. The work wrapped up in about two weeks, just in time for us to host a big family gathering. When we discovered the ceiling fan lights in the bedroom weren't working, we called Javier. He immediately sent someone out the next day to resolve it. That kind of quick follow-up shows their commitment doesn't stop the moment the job is declared finished. We are seriously happy with the results. The roof is secure, the bedroom looks brand new, and the whole experience was far less stressful than we expected given the circumstances. FHS Construction delivered quality work, clear communication, and outstanding professionalism from start to finish.
