A local favorite here in Landrum, SC. Very good specials menu which included four fish entrees. I had the Carolina farm raised catfish with vegetables. Better half had special Carolina flounder. Both deep fried but with a light breading. Both were excellentee!! Appetizer was fried frog legs for a 1st time. All was excellent and entree wait time was non-existent. Very yummy. Loved the decor. Very busy, but the hostess was very attentive & they moved quickly to get us a table. The ambience was chill. The only negative it was BLAZING HOT in the restaurant due to the high temps & the open patio. We were dying but the food made up for it. Our waitress was upbeat & very helpful. I got the southwestern salad - my goodness that's 1 heck of a salad!! My hubby got the Pilgrim. He said it's like "Thanksgiving" in your mouth. My oldest - hens burger - it was gone in 3.2 seconds. I called to complain about a pick up order, the background noise was so loud, I tried to speak so that she could hear me, she rudly stay3s she's trying to help me but she's not going to if I continue to yall. She accused my husband of approving the order according to the 'pick up' person. He wasn't aware they charged us for extra such for fish & chips, but there wasn't anything extra, we just charged for it. Passing through Landrum and noticed this pub. We stopped and had a sandwich and a beer. We both tried the BLT and it was a perfectly executed sandwich. I tried their Black and Tan. Guinness and Blue Moon. Also good. Great service. Super atmosphere. The place was packed for a Wednesday lunch. And people walked in the door constantly even as we left a bit after 1:00. Nice little gastro pub in the heart of Landrum. It was popping for brunch on a Sunday. Decor was interesting. Tried the brunch menu and ordered the Chef's Omelet. Interestingly, it was filled with shrimp. The sides was a bowl of fruit and house potatoes. The fruit was cool and crisp but the potatoes tasted old like they've been sitting under a heat lamp. read more

It was a little packed so walking in the aisles was a little difficult and if you are sitting on the side (outside) just be warned that fans may still be on when it's cold (no idea why) and there is one heater at one end of the area (not hear we were.) Visited the Hare and Hound with family a couple of months ago. Good food, good service. They offer a diverse menu with steak, chicken, pasta, and fish plates. The portions cover your plate. Tonight was our first time visiting the Hare and Hound. The atmosphere was friendly and the people were very welcoming. We had such a great time visiting with the bartender, Lance, that we decided to eat dinner at the bar. The service was great. The duck was amazing and the quiche of the day was delicious. Excellent food and service. I liked the little quirky service of bringing popcorn to your table while you wait for your food. Staff was super friendly and very accommodating. I brought my 97 year old mom here and the staff was a huge help, plus they really treated her well and kept checking back to see if she needed anything. Loved the atmosphere too. This was probably my 4th time here but a first for my mom. Just wish I could have bought my dad here too before he passed away. The Hare & The Hound is located on the corner of Main Street in beautiful downtown Landrum, SC. Very popular restaurant/pub among the locals and the surrounding small towns. Me and the wife have always enjoyed our dinner experiences many times at H & H, trying out the many options on the menu. However, on Jan. 14 2023 was, perhaps, the worst experience over all from start to just walking out... We arrived approximately around 4:30 pm, and happily to say we received our table in about 7 minutes of waiting. At that point the evening date with the wife suddenly took a nose dive starting with the server. She walked right up without any form of introduction especially never saying her name. Pretty lady with soft red hair pulled back into a ponytail, glasses. She did welcome us with a forced smile, and quickly asked if we can start with drinks...my wife got a Dr. Pepper and I asked for a sweet tea with an appetizer of potato skins. Like I said, she never gave us her name and us being us, we felt like she just didn't want to chat with us. We were thinking maybe she was just having a bad night or something else going on. In about 25 minutes (5:00 pm), she brought the drinks and the cold potato wedges... and my wife asked for another small cup of sour cream for the wedges, we never got that. We noticed she was friendly and kind of chatty with the other guests but not us. It was almost like she was avoiding us at all cost. Once, she refilled my tea cup but never asked my wife for anything. She wasn't attentive to our needs what so ever! Someone else came by and taken away the appetizer plates and such but after another 20 minutes, (5:25 pm) she walked by and said "our food will be out shortly' without breaking stride toward the next table of guest. We did noticed people that were behind us on the waiting list had already eaten and leaving the restaurant....we noticed others nearby that came in (15 mins or so ) and seated way after us, received their food....just wasn't our night I guess. Our server never stopped to say anything encouraging like, 'she apologizes for slow service, or offered us anything "...some guy with a beard offered us some popcorn but we declined. It was already an hour or so into our dinner date (5:40) wasted so we decided to leave The Hare and The Hound and Landrum altogether. As I stood waiting for my wife to slide out of the booth, our server came up to me to finally apologized but I said, "its okay and we are leaving". She kept on apologizing and again, "we are leaving, have a good night and please don't worry about it"...we walked to the front door where I did mention to the 'floor manager' that "we are leaving and the service we received tonight was terrible"....As we walked out I did hear someone say 'is he serious' and we were approached by a nice lady (from the restaurant) that was offering us to buy our meal and our food should be right out...I told her 'no thank you and we are leaving'. She pleaded for us to stay but my wife kindly said 'maybe some other time' ....we walked to our car and left disappointed but positive. WE ended up at Capri's in Boiling Springs SC. read more

We had lunch there today. I had the fish and chips. They were delicious! The fish (was flounder) it has a nice crunchy coating and the flounder was hot and flaky! Just wanted to say this restaurant has got great food consistently . I recently started eating vegan and wanted something to eat other then salads so I sent an e-mail to the restaurant asking them to consider maybe adding a vegan burger to their menu. To my surprise I received a nice e-mail back from the owner telling me that she hadn't got many calls for vegan dishes but thought she may try a vegan burger. Well today I went in with some friends and Their it was ;.....a veggie burger substitute on their menu. Wow... I was so excited to have a mushroom burger with a vegan pattie ! I was was immediately welcomed in the restaurant with a warm greeting and immediately seated! I took the safe route and ordered a burger which was lacking in seasoning but was cooked to my specification and surprisingly was not greasy! The burger was delicious! I ordered the soup and half sandwich, beloved had the steak and ale pie. Outstanding! My cup of soup was a spicy chicken with loads of corn, black beans, and enough kick to make me scrape the bottom of the cup in order to not miss a drop. My Pilgrim sandwich was stuffed with sliced turkey, bacon, lettuce, and cranberry sauce, all on toasted bread. I could hardly finish half! The star of the show was my husband's steak and ale pie, which was a steaming bowl of luscious beef, carrots, onions, and mushrooms under a bed of fluffy mashed potatoes. Spot on pub food, the likes we have not found since our last trip to the U.K. Service was excellent and our food came quickly. We highly recommend Hare & Hound for an excellent meal!
