The worst shopping experience I have had in 10+ years. I would strongly recommend absolutely never do business with this store specifically. The GM and management truly doesn't care about you as a customer. They only care about getting your money. I worked with Jorge (one of the managers) and bought a couch. Instead of paying the $300 delivery fee, I opted to go pick up the couch myself. We set the pick up date for January 1st. I asked multiple times if he was sure that they were going to be open New Year's Day, which he assured me they would be. He was wrong. On January 1st, I rented a Uhaul and spent about $75 and 3 hours of my time and drove to the Romeoville location to pick up the couch. I found out upon arriving, that the warehouse was indeed closed on January 1st, but stores were open. Jorge had made a mistake. I reached out and sent him an email saying I was in the parking lot disappointed that I spent the time and money and came all the way here. He responded to me admitting the mistake, apologizing repeatedly, saying they would fix it and make it up to me. It's all in emails. At this point I was thinking they would come Back and offer me free delivery, as I already wasted $75 and my time and was not interested in doing it again when they made the mistake and owned it and said they would fix it. They were willing to do nothing!!!! Zero. Told me basically "sorry, mistakes happen, you got a great deal on the couch and margins are too thin to offer you any more of a discount. Go rent another Uhaul and spend another $75 and 2 Hours" After going back and fourth with them for a few days, they offered me $50 off my couch and told me to go rent another Uhaul and spend my time again. $50!!!! Not even enough to cover the cost of the first Uhaul. So I'm expected to go pay for a second Uhaul and attempt another pick up? That was their solution. I went into the store to talk face to face because as anybody would be - I was incredibly frustrated with the customer service. Arem the GM (I believe is his name) was short with me, disrespectful, and ENTIRELY disinterested in helping resolve the situation. Even though I have emails with them admitting they were wrong and made a mistake and said they would fix since I wasted time and money to go pick up initially when they told me to. I told them to cancel my order then. Then he was suddenly "willing" to cover the expense of a second Uhaul to keep them from losing the sale. I said wanted my first one paid for upfront before I go spend more money, but he insisted they would not do that, and told me to go rent another truck and send them the receipt and that he promised me the next morning within 24 hours he would send an adjusted invoice. 10 days later nobody will return calls or get back to me. I never received an adjusted invoice as promised. These guys will say anything to get a sale or keep a deal in check, but it's blatantly obvious that they truly do not care about you or your experience - just getting your money. I will be returning my couch, happily paying the stupid 10% restock fee, and will be moving in from room place and never doing business with them again. Worst customer service and first time in my life I've ever left a review of any sort because I truly believe people should avoid doing business with them. We had a great experience here start to finish. We had been shopping for a sectional for a while and had seen the same couch in several different stores and had loved it each time, so we figured that this was the one. When we asked for a quote at The RoomPlace we where really disappointed to learn that is was way higher then the other quotes we had been getting. We told our sales person this and with some negotiation we got the price down to what we thought was a much fairer price. We decided to go with The RoomPlace in the end because they offered to get us the couch right away and they were more flexible with there delivery times. We chose a Saturday that worked for us. We where contacted two days before to confirm the date and we were contacted the day before with our 3 hour window. The delivery men showed up within the 3 hour window. I just moved to a new apartment and I was looking for a new dining set. I found my dream table/chairs elsewhere but thought I'd do my due diligence by checking out other places before making a commitment. I was very surprised when I found the same set at The Room Place and for much cheaper!!! The girl who helped me was very friendly but passed me off to her manager when I wanted to get pricing for the table/chairs and a coffee table. I don't mean this as a negative thing, but that the manager might be able to work out a better deal.... This is where the positive portion of my review ends. Once the manager got involved, I felt very pressured to buy. I stated multiple times that I was just looking and would not be purchasing anything during this visit. And just as many times as I said no, they suggested I put down a $50 deposit to "lock in my price". When they realized I wasn't going to bite, the manager and associate couldn't have looked more annoyed! In all honesty, had they not tried to pressure me, I would have bought the table from them. Instead, I went back to the original location I saw the table and they price matched!!! There's something to be said for good customer service and "seed planting". Purchased a bedroom set, and the initial experience and delivery were fine. While inspecting the furniture, I noticed scratches. Costumer service was great, furniture replacement set up. That date was changed total of 3 times, and when the replacements arrived, they were damaged also!! A whole song and dance to get some kind of compensation for my trouble-after all who wants damaged NEW furniture. This has been a whole headache and the thing I know for sure is I will never darken the doorway of this store again. I did deal with a couple nice employees/managers, so the star is for them. I have never met a more unprofessional place in my life. I honestly do not know how this place is still in business. Last year we ordered 5k worth of furniture from THE ROOM PLACE. Our sectional was delivered wrong FIVE times. (Wrong color 3 times, completely wrong couch once, and not scotchguarded) NOT including the THREE times they failed to show up during the scheduled window time. So for me that was SEVEN days off of work waiting on them. Fast forward to today: the frame on my sectional has separated due to it being made from poor material. Bc it has not been a year we have the insurance they open a claim for 7 days - so they sent a technician out to repair it. He came during the window time TWO WEEKS ago and broke our couch more then told us he could not repair it today due to it being the end of the service time. We had to call the room place several times to get an update as to when they would schedule him to come back to repair it. Well that date was set for today. I love the room place. A long time ago it used to be called Harlem Furniture, but I'm sure that may have scared some people off so they came up with a more neutral name. We've gotten a lot of Furniture from them over the years. Prices are very reasonable and cheaper than most of the other places around. The styles are pretty good and keep up with the modern theme. Very disappointed in this company. I have always bought from them in the past when they were Harlem Furniture for over 20 years. Bought an expensive electric recliner sectional. Long story short they refused to honor their warranty we paid extra for. What was in the showroom is not what we got. The inside supports were missing so when you reclined you had a huge gap and open air from butt to mid back. We proved it with photos and a rep that came out twice. The only option they gave is to add foam and support but that would void any other warranty because we are altering the sectional... Don't buy from them. read more

My husband and I bought a 2,800 dollar tempurpedic mattress from them. We thought it would have been our dream mattress, It turned out to be our worst nightmare. We had it for a week and I was getting up in the middle of the night to sleep on the couch. It was killing my back. This is my second time dealing with this particular room place and both experiences were great. I worked with Phil both times and he is very good at what he does. He is patient, he tries to figure out exactly what you want, and he tries to help in anyway possible. I did have one mishap this past Friday (6/7/19) with my delivery. I received the wrong table and 2 of the chairs I ordered were actually to short for my breakfast bar, so I refused those items but the issue was rectified right away. Phil and his team found my table and I picked out 2 higher chairs and everything turned out great. My order was delivered this past Tuesday and looks great. We've purchased a sofa and a cocktail ottoman from here before the 4th of July holiday. While our salesperson, Vic, was quite helpful, the post-sale support has been HORRIBLE. We were promised delivery of the couch today, 7/5, and the ottoman on 7/12. We were told that the ottoman wouldn't be available until 7/26 -- backorders happen. I get it. However, while we got daily calls from their delivery department about this backorder, I would call back and go through an automated system to be put on hold. I would wait no more than 5 minutes before I hung up because I don't have time for that kind of nonsense. During the sale, we were told that we would get a call the day before the delivery (yes a call on 7/4 for a delivery on 7/5) in the evening to tell us our delivery window. We received no such call. I called the store at about 8:45pm on 7/4. Thankfully, Frank answered the phone (I was surprised anyone was there to answer), and confirmed our delivery for 7/5 from 1:30 - 4:30pm. He said that they had been making those calls the day before, and we should've heard from them. I got a call at 8:26 am this morning (7/5) to confirm my delivery. I called back at 8:30 am, but got the automated system telling me that I needed to call back when they were open. Frankly, that's stupid. You called me, asked me to call you back, but you don't allow me to return your call? I called back after 9 am, and was on hold for 5 - 10 minutes after someone picking up the call to put me back on hold twice (yes, I can tell when the music stops that you've picked up the line, and when the music starts again that you've just put be back on hold). My husband had the same experience, since we gave his number as the alternate. We were both told the delivery window was from 1:30 - 4:30 pm today (three times this was confirmed). I was offered to take a survey after the call, and when I attempted to complain that this was not the first time I had called about this problem, the system ended the survey. My husband took off the afternoon to wait for this delivery. Time is money folks. By 4:30pm, he called the customer service line, and spoke to Stephanie from Lombard. She was rude, unapologetic, and unhelpful. She notified him that the system ACTUALLY said the delivery window was from 2 - 5pm. Regardless, 5pm came and went. My husband was told at 5:25 pm that the drivers are still 20 minutes away. I'm nearly ready to return the ottoman purchase, since I have little expectation that the service from this place is going to improve. The couch just might need to go back as well, because I work too hard to spend thousands of dollars with a company that has no respect for us and doesn't value our patronage. ** UPDATE 7/6/16 ** The delivery arrived at about 6:15 pm last night. My husband was livid. Given the circumstances, I'm sure that the delivery guys were having a rough day, but they were also unapologetic for being nearly 2 hours past the latest time of the "window" with the delivery, making us wait nearly 6 hours. Their response was, "It's a delivery WINDOW." Well, bub, guess what... No matter how anyone slices it, you failed to meet your stated window of time you were committed to. They left pieces of cardboard and wrapping behind and didn't fully complete the setup of the couch (there are velcro strips on the back of the cushions that needed to have fabric protectors removed). I think it's worth mentioning that we PAID for the service of delivery. The Room Place isn't doing us a favor by bringing it to us, and I think that they really ought keep that in mind. Now that the sofa is here, we are happy with the purchase so far, although we've had possession of it for less than 18 hours. We'll see if it stands up as a quality piece that they claim it to be over time. We still haven't decided if we are going to keep the ottoman or night. I am shocked that I'm writing a review for a furniture store, but this one is worth sharing. My husband & I had been furniture shopping all over town and decided to stop into the Roomplace in Aurora while out visiting family. In the past I've been annoyed with pushy sales people or those that stalk you thought the store. Not the case here, folks! Such a relief to be able to shop as a couple and talk about what we were really looking for without a stranger pushing us. Then cut to James... the wonderful man that approached us with Halloween candy. Nice move! Instead of asking us what we were there for and going into a pitch, he offered us trick-o-treating candy since it was Halloween night. What a nice ice breaker! As we started talking and explaining what we were looking for - a comfortable sectional that had neck support & not to deep for my short legs - he was able to make a great recommendation of a set that was the perfect fit for our needs. Even better? It was *less* expensive than the one we were originally looking at! But that's not why I'm writing the review... When James asked where the delivery would take place, we told him we lived downtown. He explained that he was concerned about the freight elevator and if our piece would fit. James googled the standard size to be sure our 102" longest part would be able to work with our high rise freight elevator. That hadn't occurred to me at all, so I reached out to my building manager this morning and learned we're below the industry standard at 96" high. I called to postpone the delivery since we knew this wouldn't work, and Yolanda and the delivery team were great about it. I am still so surprised that James even told us about this. He's a sales guy, after all, and usually they're not too concerned with what happens after the same. WOW! He saved us a lot of time and energy in what could have a been a really frustrating delivery effort.. and the risk of not having any furniture at all since we were planning on selling our other set the day before delivery! Really great service, and proof that there are some really good people that just happen to have the title "sales associate." I've been looking for a bedroom set for a few months and found one online that I loved. Went to see it in person and my sales person seemed like I was the biggest inconvenience to her. Never even learned her name until I called the location to complain. She asked for my social to run my name for a credit card when I never even asked for that. I had been upfront I were there to pay in full.. Once I chose to not get the entire set so I can get the heck out of there I assumed I was picking up the set from the store. The cashier later told me the location was in Woodridge.. NOT my sales lady! Once I changed it to delivery, she just walked off. Never thanking me nothing. I feel like a complete moron for giving her that sale. I should've cancelled and ordered online like my first thought. Awful service. I bought a double recliner sofa. The one in the store was just what I was looking for. I wanted softer cushions. When I sat on that one my feet touched the floor. The head cushion had some give and laying on it was comfortable. I did not find out about return policy until I was in the process of paying. Today I got the sofa. It looks the same, but it definitely is less comfortable than the one in store. I went back to recheck. This one feels stiffer and my feet dangle off the floor by an inch. The store itself is actually not the issue, it's the delivery service and their customer care team that is trash. My wife and I went in to the showroom looking for a bed. The salesperson was very helpful and got us everything we were looking for. We bought our set on a Tuesday night (9/4)and our delivery set up for that Thursday (9/6). Thursday comes and the delivery people brought the wrong headboard. They had the correct headboard on the truck but for a Queen, not a king like we bought. One of our box springs was ripped as well. The delivery drivers forced my wife into signing paperwork saying completed delivery even though it was incomplete. They rescheduled our delivery for a week from that date (9/13), which blew my mind since when we bought everything we were able to schedule it for two days out. Actually more like 1.5 days since we were buying our furniture at night. I called customer care to report the issues and the woman I talked to was able to change my delivery date, with verbal confirmation, to the following Tuesday (9/11). Come today, (9/10) we find out that our delivery is moved back to Thursday (9/13) via a text confirmation. I called customer care and got zero help. I was told that although she confirmed Tuesday (9/11) with me, she neglected to put it in the system. So now we're waiting a week for them to fix the issue. We've also had to live for the headboard wrapped up in blankets, because even though they messed up and gave us the wrong one, we're stuck with it if there is even a scratch on it. I wish they were that consistent with stuff people buy and get delivered. Also was told, after having to ask, that they will inspect our delivery before they put it in the truck. Isn't that something that should be done with every piece of furniture? I wish his company got different delivery companies and better trained customer care associates. These guys will have you pulling your hair out. Found a nice looking living room set. Bought said set. Set was delivered. Quickly notice love seat was dusty and damaged. Called to swap. Received loveseat #2, actually worse than the first. Didn't accept delivery. Took another day off work to receive loveseat #3. Guess what? I'm pretty sure it was love seat #1, slightly cleaned and kinda repaired. Obviously didn't accept. Called store explained frustration, and was going to return, sales manager ( I think is a good guy) pleaded for one more chance "promised to get it right". "I'll make sure they look it over real good". WRONG! That one was missing buttons and they actually tried to space out the buttons to cover up where the missing ones where, how pathetic is that. They don't value their customers. Mind you this wasn't from the ding and dent section. Nor was this a cheap set. It was the primo one right by the door when you walk in. Didn't matter, now it's all going back and I have to furniture shop all over again. Complete waste of time. Unless of course your blind, don't mind wasting your money, and enjoy meeting many delivery men. During this process I went to the store a few times to inquire as no communication was coming from them. I was shown emails from corporate stating that they spoke to me when their were no calls made nor voicemails left as stated by the corporate emails. They lie! Here is the letter we just submitted to the Better Business Bureau about how my husbands credit was run WITHOUT his consent: My wife and I visited the store on 3/14/15 to purchase a small amount of furniture via layaway. Bob Garro helped us. When it was time to make the purchase, we told him our intent was to put our $600 purchase on layaway. He told us we should consider a credit card. We are in the process of buying investment property so we immediately and simultaneously shut that idea down. He then told us about a 90 day same as cash option involving making payments via a checking account. Qualifications are based on income which then determine how much furniture you're allowed to buy. He told us this was the best option as layaway runs the risk of our items not being in stock. We agreed to the option via a company called Progressive. He asked us a series of questions. Our application was declined ONLY because he misread the numbers on the bottom of the check. He made a call to correct his mistake and we were approved for 4 times the amount we needed-as we knew we would be. He then neglects to tell us about the $79 application fee until he had already submitted the application-he claimed he was new and didn't know all the details on the program. RED FLAG! We put $300 down on a $600 purchase. Delivery date is set and now we wait for our delivery. Fast forward to today, Friday, March 20, 2015. We receive a letter in the mail via our credit monitoring company, indicating I had applied for credit. WE NEVER APPLIED FOR THEIR ROOOMPLACE CREDIT CARD!! WE NEVER CONSENTED TO SUCH A THING! Why would we be in the process of buying property and apply for credit?! Anyone who knows anything about finances knows this. I called the manager Nick Morgan who failed at every attempt to downplay the magnitude of this situation. We are awaiting his Monday phone call as he promised. This is a clear violation of the Fair Credit And Reporting Act. If this situation is not corrected-INQUIRY REMOVED FROM MY CREDIT REPORT-we will be seeking legal counsel! I felt a bit like chum in a shark tank when I walked into the showroom. A very "enthusiastic" salesman with lots of aftershave approached and started his pitch. I asked a question and got a response that was blatantly false. Not wanting to walk out immediately, I did take the time to look around. After walking around for about 5 minutes I realized that their furniture just didn't appeal to me. I was looking for simple, minimalist, clean lines and most of their furniture is fussy, glitzy and shiny. read more

I wish I could give a negative review for the Fox Valley Store. I just went to this showroom with my mom, and experienced the most unprofessional, uncalled for, irrational customer service I've ever been witness to or part of - in any type of business. As is typical of a visit to this facility (and yes, this wasn't the first time, but will most DEFINITELY be the last), we walked in and were pounced by the litany of 5 or 6 employees standing by the door with sales fliers. When asked if we needed a mattress(?), my mom indicated she wanted to browse and had already spoken to a sales person on her last visit (who, by the way, followed us through the entire store for the entire duration of our visit at that time). She was then asked the name of that sales person and declined to give it until she was ready to make her purchase (yes, she was planning to spend $1,200+ today). Her thought being that she would like to browse without being followed around and bombarded. She already had something picked out and was planning to purchase additional items, as well. One of the women at the front of the store, a brunette with a bob, very loudly explained to what I think was her manager, that my mom "refused" to give the name of her sales person. What she failed to indicate was that my mom would let them know who that person was when she was finished browsing. Again, she didn't want to be followed around but leisurely browse for a bit before finalizing her purchase. At that point, I told the sales rep this and received a rather curt reply. My mom and I decided at that time that we would depart the store. I mentioned that our business was good and they just lost a sale (and likely MANY more since several members of my family shop there). There are a LOT of furniture stores out there...to which I received the reply "BYE, Have fun shopping at another furniture store." At least 4-5 sales people took part in - or simply stood by watching - this attack. I am appalled at this treatment, and will share this story with my family, friends, colleagues and more. I will NEVER place another order with this company or with any other company with which they are affiliated. Today, these rude sales people lost $1,200 and many more purchases down the road. The good thing is there are plenty of furniture stores out there to choose from, so we - as consumers - don't have to put up with this type of treatment. read more
