I absolutely love this restaurant! It's really a hidden gem. And I am soo happy I live pretty close to it too! The inside is amazing!! I seriously want to come back and sit in a different area each time lol. The food and drinks were so good!! And their service was amazing. They are following all the rules and made sure we wore our mask until we were seated. All their cocktails we ordered were amazing too! I was a fan of their mrytlecreek margarita and passion fruit margarita that was a daily special. And where to start with their food! My baby green salad (requested with no grain) was soo tasty! I added salmon to that and it was made perfectly! I was also a fan of their fries and I recommend the crispy deviled eggs 3 ways! Everyone else loved their meals too. So many yummy things I wanted to try. My friend who ordered the crispy buttermilk chicken sandwich loved it, the portion was great too! So not to worry if you are hungry, you will find something filling here. My friend also said the New England Seafood chowder soup was great. The Grass-Fed Bison empanadas was also a hit at our table! Hidden gem for sure. Unassuming from the outside but super swanky and cool vibe & decor inside. The drinks are on point. We had the venison & scallops and both were fantastic. To be honest I hated scallops before but tasted a bit of my hubbys and omg they were delish. Important to note this isn't a "get a bucket of food" type place. This is more like tapas and drinks. Excellent!!! Just came home from an evening at Harlow's. We would have never known about this place but we were given gift certificates as a Christmas gift. (Thank you Aubrey Doss). Harlow's checked all of the boxes. Located in Bonsall, this is literally the definition of a hidden gem. Our cocktails were smooth and flavorful. I had a Sazerac (two). Tami had the French Martini. From there the hits kept rolling. We split the Roasted Beet, Burrata & Heirloom Tomato Salas as an appetizer. Superb! For my main course I chose the Moroccan Spiced Lamb Chops. One of best decisions of my life. The Chops literally melted in my mouth. Tami had the Lobster Stuffed Sole. She generously allowed me a taste. Again a perfectly cooked dish. For dessert we chose the Bread Pudding. While normally not a fan of such, this Bread Pudding was curiously addictive and the perfect ending to the best culinary experience I've had in years. read more

It was our first time there last night. It looks a little rough on the outside but there's a very pleasant and interesting time warp into the past once walking in in the door. It is tastefully stuffed with memorabilia from the 40s and 50s, a big bar (with a leaning towards whiskey drinks), and lots of overstuffed club chairs to relax in while enjoying conversation and drinks. The menu items are larger than appetizers but not overly large for dinner portions - with a stated leaning towards sharing dishes. We shared a large charcuterie board and two other dishes, which was enough for 4. The cocktails were enjoyable, but were not heavy pours when considering the single oversized ice cube in each. Upon arrival, the hostess was overly friendly and immediately started telling us about her busy day and how she was feeling "scattered". When our guests arrived the staff couldn't remember where they sat us and neither the guests or staff could readily find us. Table service was friendly but not overly attentive, and later got our order wrong. The wait staff came across as "Bonsall country breakfast restaurant" friendly instead of in keeping with a more refined and upscale (but cordial) "treat you like a valued but regular dinner guest" service that would match the unique era and decor the owners pulled off so nicely. "Hi! My name is..." should be replaced with "Good evening. May I offer you our menu, or a cocktail?" The restaurant was busy, but not full. The delivery of our food took FOREVER. Various staff kept coming back to us with apologies for the long wait and references to "kitchen issues". It took 3 HOURS to get through dinner with no offer of a billing adjustment, complementary dessert, etc.. The menu is limited, with an unusual/odd assortment of offerings (the menu is online). That limitation works best when the food is destination excellent - but while it was attractively served and enjoyable, it was not outstanding. I recognize that the long wait probably took some of the blush off that rose... This is a restaurant that could easily earn 5 stars for character and being unique but the service was an overwhelming negative on this visit. We really wanted to love this place upon entering and "going back in time", but ended up not sure we will go back. Every restaurant can have an "off night", but its on-site managment should be monitoring that and proactively compensating to improve the experience for the guests. The full tab for that failure shouldn't have to be shouldered by the patrons. read more

This is our third time at Harlows. First, two times were a great experience but tonight everything was off. Our drink order was mixed up and a Martini was spilled on wife. The entree arrived before finishing our salads. The lamb medallions were thin and dry. Usually there are 4 ribs on the plate ( like the picture ) but tonight only 2 ribs thin and on the dry side. The lobster stuffed sole was also on the dry side. Maybe a different cook tonight? read more

DO NOT GO HERE - fraud, rip off. The waiter literally changed the tip to 200% after we left and left a 20% tip. We had to go back and asked to see a manager but conveniently no one was available. The waiter himself knew he was wrong, admitted he "made a mistake" and after we came back said he would take the tip off for us - as if that was any concession to outright overcharging us. This was all after the hostess sat us at the first table when you walk in the door. We asked for another table more in the back because we were celebrating an anniversary. She said "oh no you want this one because there is great live music". There was no live music- only a lot of people walking past our table all night since we were right at the front. This place is excellent! My husband and I went here on a date night and were just kept asking ourselves why we haven't been there before. The drinks were so yummy! The service was amazing and the ambiance is so fun! I'm not an adventurious diner with my food, but my husband is. I decided to go all out and try some of his dish and to my surprise, it was so delicious! I ordered the sliders for myself which were oh so good. We will definitely be back! The awesome part about this place is you would think it's not a place for kids, but when we were there we kept saying it wouldn't be horrible if we brought our daughter for dining, especially for an early dinner when there aren't many people to bother. BUYER BEWARE!! The bartender made some wonderful drinks for us! However, what I signed for on the bill and what they charged my card was completely different and not in my favor. Same thing happened on all my friends bills as well. $31.00 for one cocktail $72.00 for two cocktails Etc etc etc. Evidently, Management is in on this one! When I called the restuarant, no one returned my call. Thankfully my credit card took care of it. So bummed that this happened, it was a great drink and I totally dig the speakeasy vibe. Super cute and kitschy Casablanca throwback. Fabulous staff. Super slow kitchen. Oddly limited menu. Haley was our waitress. She is fabulous, they should pay her more money! Restaurant is super dark, so bring a flashlight, and it's freezing inside, so bring a jacket. The food was good - everything is sharable... but they bring you tiny plates and no serving utensils. Very odd. And the bathrooms are so small if you are over 5 feet tall, you won't fit in the stall! read more

I struggled on how to rate my experience because I really, really want this place to succeed. So I'm erroring on the side of being generous. The place really is a hidden gem. It had a very cool vibe and is nicer and bigger than I was anticipating. Service was amazing and you can tell they are passionate about what they are doing. That being said I think they are a little too passionate about what they are doing without much thought for what their customers actually want. The menu is perplexing. Honestly we put off going here several times because unless you want boar or elk or duck there just aren't many options. There isn't a single chicken or beef dish on the menu (other than the sliders which were amazing but hard to make a meal out of). The quail could have been amazing if it was chicken, but fried quail anemic quail is just an exercise in frustration. So much breading and bones and so little meat. This place has glimpses of greatness which is perhaps the most frustrating part. If they mixed up their menu a bit I would be a regular. As it stands now it's a great spot for drinks and desserts but unless you are really craving game or seafood there is almost nothing else to eat. Totally understand the owners can serve whatever menu they want but I hope they read this review because I think the restaurant could become a real jewel of Bonsall if they just offered a few more standard proteins and sides. read more

I am so excited that Harlow's is open for business and better than ever. We were so impressed with our dining experience, and will absolutely be back again and again. The cocktails are creative and delicious. Made with fresh and unique ingredients. I also like that they have options for really good non-alcoholic cocktails. I definitely want to come back and eventually try every single item on their menu. We had the quail, venison, salad, and falafel, plus both dessert options. The dishes were unique, well thought out, and were delicious combinations of fresh seasonal ingredients. I am glad we shared, and I look forward to trying the other dishes as well. The staff was incredibly professional and friendly. They were happy to welcome us and I can tell they are proud of the restaurant. I am amazed at the luxurious decor and comfortable yet elegant atmosphere. This is just a service and maybe management issue, the drinks were great. I took my wife for an early Valentine's since I will be traveling. She was very sad we ended up being sat directly next to the bar. Tons of foot traffic and unfortunately had the bartender as the server. He was great and the drinks were amazing. It just didn't seem right and he was rushing to help us and the bar while there were tons of open seats and tables away from the bar. We had a small plate which was good only, the manager I believe had to bring it out because the bartender was serving the bar. He was nice but he was just all over the place. Maybe it was a bad day but it wasn't busy enough to make the bartender be our server that was our complaint. We left due to that. read more

Came to Harlow's this past weekend and enjoyed our time. When you walk into this place, you really feel like you are somewhere else. I'm not sure how to explain it, but it is super fun and quirky. Our waitress was wonderful she got everything right and was very sweet. We ordered a few cocktails olive, which were really yummy. For food we started off with the halibut ceviche which was yummy. For dinner I got the scallops and my partner got the quail. We both really enjoyed our dishes however the scallops run $46 and you only get three rather small ones since they are not jumbo scallops. I was still very hungry after that so we ordered the beet salad instead of dessert which did then fill us up and was very tasty. The gentlemen playing guitar was wonderful and super entertaining. I definitely recommend this place for a special occasion for the two of us, our bill ran over $200 as a price point. read more
