Went here when I was in town for a friend's wedding! Harlow's was a huge part of college days and I hadn't been for years. It was Bourbon and Blues night and I was really fun. A stellar drink list, with fun special cocktails. Staff was super nice and made excellent drinks. Bathroom was clean and maintained through the night. There was lots of seating and a good crowd. The band there that night was great. Now I wish I could find something like this here in DC. Many small local musicians, the largely forgotten and those that have flown under the radar. But there have also been major performers as well. None ever bigger than the now late Prince himself. And I missed it! One night many years back, he came directly here after his concert at Arco Arena was over to grab a bite to eat and gladly gave another (this time free) concert in front of a few very fortunate fans into the wee hours. So much has been said about Harlow's. Sactown's premiere music venue draws in the best and biggest acts, but does it offer an atmosphere suitable for the audience? Yes and no. Earlier this week I went down to watch former Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson and friends as they jammed their wat through a healthy 2+ hour set. The music was fantastic and the acoustics were crystal, but the stifling heat and stench of hot farts made it difficult for me to avoid running out into the street. I'm not expecting a lot, but what say we throw some fans or air conditioning in there? I felt bad for the musicians as well, who, donning classic rocker jackets and hats, were visibly sweating and struggling near the end. Other than this quibble, I really enjoy Harlow's and the bands they pull in. I've seen many a memorable set here and the staff is usually friendly and outgoing. You can get in and out the door without spending a bundle on drinks or the ticket. read more

Cant even begin to describe how fun Harlows is!! They book the best local and big bands (especially the best funk!) Always room on the dance floor! Need a place to sit there are plenty! Friendly hardworking bartenders, don't have to wait to long for a drink. The back patio is spacious and a fun experience (it shares space with Momos night club upstairs and mixes the music crowd with the "club crowd" lol). Harlows I LOVE YOU. Dude. This place was bad. Paid $20 each to get in, fine. What's not fine, is not being able to get a drink for over an hour despite standing right in front of the bartender. Came here recently for my first time checking out the Talib Kweli concert with my friend. The venue was small, yet intimate. I like venues like this when watching people perform. The patio area in the back was nice too and a cool place to chill listening to the opening acts. I also liked how there are restaurants surrounding Harlows so you can grab a bite before the concert. I had a great time and got to see one of my favorite artist from back in the beautiful struggle days perform. read more

I'll have to be honest, we went to this place with a little trepidation as I thought it was mainly catering to the very young crowd. The Band Ekolu (contemporary Hawaiian) was playing and we went on a whim. Drove down at 7pm, and there were only a hand full of people coming in. We bought our tickets and chose a small table next to the stage. I thought to myself, there were not so many tables (maybe 10) so where does everyone sit? As it turned out, most just stood on the dance floor and grooved to the music up close. There were a few VIP areas against the back wall and side which were protected by a small fence. Be forewarned, this venue is loud, with low ceilings, and if you are sensitive to loud music, this venue is not for you. There were menus on our table with food and beverage options, but our server completely ignored us, so their loss on that. Not a big deal, as if we really wanted a drink, I could have picked up my ass and went to the bar, but I was indifferent at that time and just enjoyed the show. The cost of the show was $20 day of, but they did offer a discount in advance of $15. I'm not sure if this was their standard price, or it varied by the entertainment. All in all, a fun evening with high energy entertainment in a small, slightly crowded venue for a very reasonable price. We will be back! read more

Harlows sucks me in with cool bands on occasion. You can't beat seeing the Sliversun Pickups or !!! in a smaller intimate venue. Getting a drink is a snap. Prices are average, but decent potency. . It was dark in there, but did notice Stella on tap....always a good option to have. As others have mentioned, Harlows' remodeled. "There are swirls on the wall now!", I remarked to the bartender. Just had my 10-year reunion here this past weekend. I was part of the planning committee and we decided to use this venue like many of our classes before. They were one of the cheaper venues to book and I feel it was a perfect places for an event like a reunion. We had about 90-100 people show up to our event. There is plenty of seating and space to mingle while there is a large bar to hang around. The sound system was adequate also. If I were to make any gripes about the place, the "dance floor" was warped across basically the whole thing. We actually had them cater food for us also. We had 4 different pizzas, pulled pork sliders, some kind of prosciutto tater tots (which were BOMB!!!), grilled cheese sandwiches, and a veggie platter. The food was actually very good! Granted I had been drinking and was starving, but I thought for the quantity and price, the food was a great deal. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food. The management and staff were very friendly and cooperative. There were always available and responded promptly to any of our requests before and during set-up. During the event they were still around to make sure things were running smoothly and keep the place very tidy (picking up empty drinks and plates). The bartenders were extremely friendly and prompt. Two things that were a bit annoying were having the band (who was performing after our event) do their sound check DURING our event. Granted they were supposed to do it 30 mins before our event started and were late so maybe it wasn't all Harlow's fault. The other thing was the people who were coming to see the band kept coming into our private event and since I was greeting our guests I had to continue to tell them what was going on. It would have been a simple and easy fix with a sign on the door letting fans know that there is a private event going on and to form a line outside for the band. Easy Regardless of a few little things that could be easy fixes, I recommend this place if you want to throw an event. read more

The place was packed when I went to go see Tainted Love. I've never had so many tits and asses rubbed up on me ever. I was terrified I was going to suffocate in cheap perfume and butt stench. But that's how it is. The demographic in the club was varied. There were people who were at least 40, young people just starting to destroy their livers, and everyone in between. Tainted Love is an 80s cover band, so that probably explains the older crowd. There were the typical club/bar stereotypes: the straight girls that get drunk and then make out with each other on the dance floor, the creeps that search out for drunk girls to try to take them home, the sleazy guys that prey by the bar to try to buy you a drink, and the weird guys that try to dance up on you on the floor. Maybe I'm jaded. There were two bars, which was nice because the main bar got really crowded. My main gripe was the bathroom. Can a girl get some toilet paper, or is that too much to ask for? By the end of the night there was no toilet paper, seat covers, or paper towel. There was more used paper product on the floor than in the trash can. I'm really glad I had my drink napkin... It was an awesome experience. The crowd had a great vibe. read more

I have got to hand it to Harlows once again! I love coming here! When we found out that Marc Broussard was coming to Harlows, my boyfriend and I quickly went on the Harlows website to snag some tickets ($15/piece = not bad at all). The website said that it would start around 7:30 PM but we knew that Marc would have a few opening performers (which he did). We parked very conveniently on J and 27th (free after 6 PM if you look for the appropriate signs). We showed our IDs, no lines, quick and easy, friendly people at the door. The venue was already packed with locals at the bar, sitting at the tables and on the dance floor listening to the opening performers. It was not difficult to wiggle our way into the bar and get a drink. For a racer 5 and a fuzzy navel at $15, not shabby. We got our drinks and headed to the dance floor and stage area. We really liked the two performers that opened for Marc Broussard. In fact, they were walking around Harlows after they performed and gave us their autographs, CD information etc. The great thing about Harlows is that it truly does feel like an intimate venue. Good crowd and relaxing atmosphere. Bathrooms are towards the back and you cant miss it (pass the ATM machine). The ladies restroom has about 3-4 stalls and never really a line. It's tiny so make sure you ask the lady in the restroom if she's in line or just waiting for a friend. Anyway, I digress. By the time Marc Broussard came on to perform it was about 9:45 PM and I had the front row! This meant easy access for photos and to even talk to him while he was between songs and sets. How awesome is that?! He played until about midnight and the crowd never really got too overwhelming or crowded. Although there were some technical difficulties with sound, the staff were quick to respond as best as they could to the artists. Even when the show was done, I still wanted a drink (actually just a cup of water for the road) and they were kind enough to provide it although you can't bring any beverages from the inside out to the public (regardless of its only water). In last night for the reunion show of the 'Skins, Dave Fraser and friends, we were treated to an evening of great memories, made, and remembered. The intimacy of the stage to seating and dance floor make for one great combination. Price wise, all considered, a deal. We only hit the street tacos, two orders, one chicken one beef, but for me and my two lady friends a perfect little bit. The sound engineer is trash and the security/guy with glasses is even more trash. A guy that really gets off on his little position in life. Have dinner elsewhere prior to the show if your dinner party is 4 or more because you are packed in the eating area like sardines and harassed by their staff if you aren't willing to make room for others resulting in you and your party being arm to arm with others in the area. 0n 3/1/20 we were harassed the whole night by one the members of the Security Team because we weren't willing to dine in environment whereas we were not arm to arm with members of our party and the neighboring party which also limited our ability and the other party's ability to come and go from the dining area because the aisles were blocked. It was clear they exceeded the capacity of people they were supposed allow in the establishment. If there were a fire, people be subjected to being trampled that night. read more

I was excited to see Keith Harkin on Wednesday. He is a good musician but there were many times he was drowned out or distracted by the heavy bass beat from the upstairs venue. Several people, including Keith, asked for the bass from upstairs to turned down with little success. I have a feeling that this a common problem with this venue. I can not recommend going to see music here unless you like hearing two different venues at the same time. Definitely not what I traveled and paid to see. This is a review of the night club aspect of Harlow's. I came here for a concert recently and really enjoyed the space. There are beautiful textures and colors everywhere. One side of the room, with the main bar, has this red ceramic/glass/shiny backing. On the other side is a blue tinted gray piece of art covering the wall with an undulating, rippling, textured surface. The outside area was outstanding. There were really nice surfaces everywhere: marble, travertine, you get the idea. The fireplaces were cool, with the gas coming out of innocuous surfaces. I could have used more heat lamps outside, and the sound got a little too loud late into the night. It was an A-OK kind of place, very nice design, but lacking that substance you would expect from such a popular, institutional venue. read more

My daughter felt ill, and wanted to sit for a music performance. I brought her a chair, and was affronted by an employee. He stated that it was not allowed, and leaning on a post wasn't allowed either. He removed the chair, and she sat on the floor. Later, several people added chairs to the floor, no problem. I later questioned him. He stated that he only had one set of eyes, and what was my problem? I said that I wished he was consistent, and that rules were for everybody. He couldn't care less. My wife and I went for a concert last night, and paid big! bucks $$$ for a booth so we could eat and then watch the bands. Good: The food was actually pretty good! Strawberry salad, chicken club, shrimp tacos. Good: The service was pretty good, besides forgetting my beer a couple times in a row, we were happy with the waitress and food delivery Bad: People kept sneaking up into the booths and tables around us thinking they could just get away with it, even though all tables were reserved and had big "Reserved" signs on them. And when they got away with it for a few minutes, they would go get friends and bring them up. Finally security would clear them out. And that happened all night Really bad: An couple did the same thing, and the guy told the waitress his knee hurt and he just *had* to sit down for a minute. She not only let them stay, but they ordered drinks and stayed the rest of the night. And of course they spent most of the concert standing in front of us. Why the F did we pay $150 for a booth to avoid that, and then have these entitled freeloaders ruin our view most of the night? If the waitress and security aren't going to enforce the reserved booth area, they shouldn't charge such a high fee for it. read more

My friend and I went to Harlow's last Thursday to see the California Honey Drops. The band was great! Harlow's was really fun, the staff is so professional, friendly and helpful. If your looking for a spot with hip hop music, momos night club upstairs on Friday and Saturdays is the place to go! Fair warning though, with hip hop music comes the ratchets and people with no class. We were here on Saturday night, a group of girls tried to punk & pushed my friend as she was walking alone, she didn't even know them, it was drunk girls acting classless. The security was on top of it and quickly separated them. We had a bottle/VIP -Drinks are strong and our cocktail waitress was patient and pleasant! The inside is modern, nice and that night since it wasn't over crowded it was pretty spacious, the ladies bathroom was nasty! We went to see Goodie Mob last night. The concert was 5 stars but the establishment was not at all. With one exception. The amazing security guard who escorted us to reserved seating. He was amazing and I'm sad cuz I can't remember his name. Anyhow. He doesnt even know how much of a godsend he was because my BF hurt his leg playing softball earlier in the week and it was sore and swollen.. thank you so much!!! I purchased these tickets for my boyfriend's birthday and paid an extra 60 bucks for the signed poster and the website said if you bought it you can have VIP entrance into the club and not have to wait in line. We get there and were told we still had to wait in line! The poster was not worth 60 and on top of that the lady at the door handed me a creased poster. I asked for a new one and she acted like she couldn't hand me a new one and got upset. I showed her the crease! For 60 bucks this poster was not worth it because the website was misleading when I bought it. The only winner here is the security guard and goodie mob. Not the venue. read more

I see a range of talent usually book shows here, and i've always been curious to catch a show at this venue. My girl got a tequila soda for $7 I believe, not mad at a cheap drink. THE SOUND SYSTEM NEEDS AN UPDATE! This venue could offer so much more if their sound system could actually keep up with high power acts. We saw the upcoming Yay Area's own AllBlack and Louisville's Jack Harlow last sat, and the crowd really made the show. The sound system just really failed these dudes. read more

I came here 3 years back, when I was below the age of 21. I saw a friend's show of mine and not soon after the show ended, they singled me out and kicked me out because they didn't want under age people mingling after a certain time. I was alone and honestly just wanted to find new friends. I was NOT there to get alcohol out of anyone. They did not give me a heads up they would do this, they just did. All i did was sit down at the patio. I felt so singled out and actually discriminated just for how old I was. I never got treated like that by a venue before. Here I am 22, turning 23 and I vowed not to give this business my business or money. No matter how much i want to attend the Vampire Balls that go on here. I also think Shannon should figure out a different venue for that. Its always, always Harlows. Smh. There ARE better venues for that. First and last time I'll ever step foot in there. Long story short, you'll get treated like a criminal if you are under drinking age. Even if you just wanted to see a damn show or find friends. F*ck this place for that. read more

Dear Harlows: I know it's been a while since I have visited you. While I do enjoy coming to see live bands here, and understand the standing room only, and crowded ass bars during these kind of shows...... I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY on god's green earth, you would charge $20 for a burlesque review (which was great by the way...), and then not accommodate for those of use who paid to see said show? My friend and I LITERALLY had to go from table to table to ask people for extra chairs that we could sit in. Now, while some people were nice and gave up their spares, most people gave dirty looks and said they were taken (which they weren't as we noticed later on in the night). I actually ended up sitting on my ex's lap, in the middle of the floor, no table..him in a chair for most of the show. Do you know how uncomfortable that is for him AND I? There were a crap ton of servers and staff milling around, and NOT ONE of them came over and offered more chairs, tables etc. WTF HARLOWS? You're considered one of the more upscale venues in town and have been around for a while, but this crap is unforgiveable. Why don't your staff and management be a little more observant? I've gone to holes in the wall, that make way less $$ and were far more accommodating! read more

Assholes !!! plain and simple. I went there for a concert which was sold out. I had a ticket for said concert. The concert started without me because they oversold and were over crowded. So their bouncers held up the line there without saying anything for a good 20 minutes. By then I was boiling pissed off and the only way I found out is because I went and got in the managers face about it. He didn't seem to care that he was leaving paying patrons out in the street only getting to hear something they paid to see. Total douch bag. read more
