The good with the bad - the staff was very nice and fast. When walking in there is a bar and some 2nd floor dining down the hall(?) to the right and a what appears to be a cozy dining room off to the left. The decor is better than it used to be but the dining room has an underlying odor of mold which lingers through whatever they used to cover it up. On to the food we both ordered the grilled jumbo shrimp. First the "jumbo" shrimp were medium sized at best and looked anemic on the plate. I got 6 medium shrimp equivalent to about 3 jumbo shrimp. They were delicious there is not enough to fill you up. Charge me more and give me Jumbo! Hubby got a 2 bite mini cup of coleslaw which did not satisfy and we both got fries which were tasty and cooked perfectly. Let me just state, from food, to service, everything was absolutely fantastic and accommodating. The workers were very helpful with my finance. She can only do gluten free for health reasons and they had gluten free flour so she could enjoy everything with ease. We stopped by this quaint little spot on New Year's Eve and had a great time! There was a DJ playing music and while everyone enjoyed themselves and danced together on the dance floor! They were cooking only fried food this evening so we had chicken tenders and fries with sweet tea! The Tea was great the food was fresh, hot and very tasty! Good effort on having more than one type of fry but they were freezer burnt. They just need to bring a chef in that cooks good, fresh food. I went for breakfast this morning and never got acknowledge or made eye contact. The waitress waited on others but never came to my table. I spoke to her manager and her response was that she was very busy. I told her acknowledgment and letting your customers know you see them goes along way even when your busy. Stopped in for lunch the other day. When you first walk in the place looks like it needs a good cleaning and make over. The lunch menu is pretty big, which always concerns me when it comes to freshness. No concerns here tho. Lunch portions are huge!!! Hubby had the beef gyro plate and he couldn't finish it all. I had a taco salad.. I must admit it was one of the BEST taco salads I've had since moving here, including those from Mexican restaurants. Waitstaff was attentive to our requests. I brought my family of 4 here. There was an awful odor coming from the back rooms. When me and my husband brought it to the manager Jessica's attention she couldn't give an explanation for the origin of the smell. We let that go and just tried to make the best of it. Later when our food arrived cold we asked the waitress to fix it, we overheard her tell the manager and then the manager made it loudly known to everyone that we had a problem with our food and it was obviously a huge inconvenience for her to help the girls and make sure things come out correct. read more

We dropped by last night and the first thing my husband noticed how empty the place is and a little dirty. We sat down and it was about 10 minutes before we even got a menu. Okay so Harmancos had a hard time in the past I will admit but under this new management it is the BOMB!! My mom was recently diagnosed as gluten intolerant, big problem in a small town in the south where everything is fried, covered, or smothered if you catch my drift but this place right here? This place has been a absolute lifesaver! Everything except for the seasoned fries and mozzarella sticks can be made gluten free; EVERYTHING! Yes, you will have a longer wait at times because anything gluten free that has to be fried needs to be fried in a separate frier but honestly it's worth the wait. Their gyros are absolutely amazing as well as their burgers and don't get me started on the Mardi Gras chicken! They even have pancakes and waffles that are gluten free for their breakfast menu! They truly don't get the recognition they deserve and I applaud the staff and management for going so far to meet the needs of their customers and making it taste good too. The overall vibe of the place is really nice especially now that they've just remodeled, it looks extravagant compared to before and I will absolutely be back very very soon! I can honestly recommend this place for anyone, gluten free or not, that wants a good time, excellent food, and a great waitstaff. Finding a place that's both interesting in it's decor, friendly and has good food is something hard to come by in Albemarle, NC. This place seems to do a pretty good job with all that. Having grown up in this town I remember when it was a little bit smaller space and it looks like they have added onto the original building to build out a nice patio and bar area. The bar area actually had a second level also. I tired the caesar salad with grilled chicken and it was actually really good. My girlfriend and mother were with me and they had a BLT and club sandwich, both of which looked really good and they had no complaints. There was A group of 11 that visited harmancos this weekend and the food was delicious! The owner makes the Mac and cheese from scratch, and it was sooo good and cheesy. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, the staff was very friendly and the owners are so down to earth and so kind. I will be going back to try the shrimp fettuccine it looked amazing. Since getting some news coverage back in February, we have been patronizing this place weekly. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Quite often the owners will come around and make conversation as well. The food has always been excellent and the menu is very diverse, offering something for every taste. This is hometown service and cuisine at its best. A lot of the negative reviews here are tribal politics and not reflective of the quality of this establishment, so take them with a grain of salt and come find out for yourself. We always sit on bar side the other side is to dark and outdated but I would highly recommend for a home cooked meal. This place is located on Main Street just outside of downtown Albemarle. If staying at the HIE, you can sneak down Leonard Ave and find this place on your right. This restaurant/bar is split upon entering, take a left to the smoke-free restaurant side, slide right for the bar area which offers the full restaurant menu. I head into the bar as I feel like catching ESPN. I grab a seat at the bar and get serviced quickly. I ask for a suggestion for my meal and get "everything is really good. I like it all." Great answer :-/ I decide on the Kickin' Pasta with cajun chicken. This comes with a caesar salad and garlic bread. Salad was probably dressed at 4:30 and as put in the fridge for the nightly service. Soggy. The food comes quick and hot when served. There was nothing kickin' about the pasta or chicken. I think the chicken was that precooked stuff you buy in the store next to the lunchables. This dish totally lacked texture and flavor. I tried to doctor it up with hot sauce, salt and pepper but it didn't help. Priced at 14.99, I'm not sure how this place has been in business since 1958 - maybe lack of options brings people in here.
