Harmony Yoga is the best yoga studio in the South Bay. If you are looking for a work out, and the opportunity to practice new postures, this studio is the place to do it. I've been doing yoga here for close to 8 years, and over time I have been to many other studios in different cities. The teachers are all really good and they provide adjustments to their students. They also offer the opportunity to practice more difficult postures, which not a lot of studios do. Sometimes the classes are packed, and other times the classes are really small and intimate. Harmony Yoga is known for being a "flow" studio and it's a pretty hip place. Almost all the classes from Level 1/2 to 2/3 to All Levels will make you sweat but particularly any class by Chappell you better bring a towel. It's been in business for eight years so there's definitely a "family vibe" which is nice in the world of card swipes and computers. The place is decorated with beautiful wall murals and plants. The retail area has a lot of options including candles, jewelry, and clothes. The front desk is very helpful in answering questions if you need to choose the right class for your practice. I absolutely love this studio and Najla is by far one of the best instructors i've ever had. Lisa, Julie and Jamie are also amazing as well. I have always been a very active person and loved boot camp style workouts and other high intensity activities. That is until I got injured training for the Tough Mudder run. That's when I considered doing yoga. I always thought yoga is too calm and not challenging enough. I was wrong, Yoga has been life changing for me, physically, mentally and spiritually. I have been practicing at Harmony Yoga for about 2.5 years now and I am so sad to be moving out of the area soon and leaving a place that I absolutely LOVE! Whenever I leave a class, I am a brand new me that I try and incorporate into my everyday life. Of course much has been written about Chappy and Najla and their classes which I love for their own very different reasons. However, one very much overlooked and under appreciated instructor is Kimberly Blaine! Her class is an amazing workout but yet her soft spoken, soothing voice guides you seamlessly thru your practice. I am enamored with her strength and varied poses...I only wish she taught more classes here! Good news though: she owns her own studio in Palos Verdes~Palos Verdes Yoga & Fitness. I'm signed up for Harmony's 30 day trial. As background, I've taught yoga before and have practiced mainly Ashtanga and Vinyasa in studios that do not play music. I am into strength and breath and not frilly slogans, copious amounts of small talk tangents during classes, and constant directions of how to be meditating and listening to my breath (how can I hear myself when I have to listen to you talking?). That said, I'm not super impressed with Harmony. It's close to my house and their schedule is diverse and they have good hours. But a lot of the classes have obnoxiously loud music that interfere with cues and hearing my own breath. Oona is better about this than some of the other instructors, and I've enjoyed her classes the most. There's just also too much instructor jabber during classes, little of which really has to do with alignment. I think the silliest thing I heard was in Roxan's class: "everything has it's opposites [...] like male and female" (as a feminist I'm like wut? we over gender binaries, and what's this to do with my pose?). Chappell's classes are pretty slapdash and I was surprised to hear he used to own the studio. Apparently he isn't going to teach here any longer and he spent a good portion of a Power class talking about how he doesn't care the studio is replacing him, that "this wasn't his calling anyway," "this is not his livelihood," etc. Like ok, bro, I get it, I'm not into reggae music and instruction that sounds half-drunk either. And do we have to talk about who has gone to XYZ concert during class? I found this whole scene unprofessional and not welcome in what was my daily practice. There seems to be a clique of students who are into his style of "teaching" but this kind of environment just doesn't appeal to me (is that what Harmony means by "non-dogmatic"?). Anyway, the vibe just doesn't feel super personal or invested. But then it also doesn't feel pretentious or cultish either. Also, no complementary water is a bummer and the bathrooms are in a corridor with not the cleanest of floors. read more

This place is good depending on what you're looking for. PROS If you want a great, dynamic yoga workout, then it's a great place especially if you take Chappy's class. Some of the other teachers are also good. It's also very reasonably priced. You can buy a series to save money but even if you buy a single class, it still is very economical. Plus you get your money's worth especially for Chappy's classes that extend up to 2 hours. Parking is excellent. CONS If you're cute, good looking (single or married) and Chappy takes a liking to you, look out. Because he makes sexual gestures and innuendos that are totally inappropriate. If you're looking to start on time, forget it. The old start time was 9:00A on Sundays. Well, first Chappy would show at 9:05, then 9:07 then 9:12. So, he changed the time to 9:15. Well, it started at 9:20, then 9:25 and now I think we're at 9:28A. The class also goes longer which is fine if you don't work or have anything else going on. So, if you leave your house around 8:45 or 9:00A on Sunday, don't expect to be back before noon. The music flow is great but Chappy used to play it SO loud that I literally, and I'm not kidding you, used to wear ear plugs. Seems to be better now. If you're looking for something spiritual or yogi-like, this is not the place to be. Be sure not to sit near a guy (sorry!) but they sweat so much that it completely will gross you out (especially in the summer). I'm not sure how often the place is cleaned and the bathroom is just ok. read more

Harmony Yoga is my place....I love the intimate setting and the amazing teachers for ALL levels. I've literally tried almost every class with every teacher in the first two weeks..Of course, I have my personal favorites (Tom - Lisa - Katie) but there is something for everyone. Tracey and Lily are great up front - very friendly and welcoming....All the teachers have been engaging and very instructional. Do not waste your money. I would not recommend going here for yoga. The studio is extremely small and right next to the noisy street, where you can hear EVERYTHING. Not very peaceful at all. It does not seem to be run very professionally and the floors were pretty dirty. I've had better experiences at the Yoga Loft or YogaWorks. read more

I got a class package from Groupon and had never visited this studio before. The teacher noticed a new face and immediately came over to introduce herself, ask about injuries and my yoga goals. All of the instructors are wonderful and the classes are amazing. The best yoga studio I've even been to. The only downside is that the classes can get quite full and sometimes it's a struggle to find enough room for your mat and "elbow room." read more

The space is nice, a huge room with a big window (although facing PCH) They have speakers throughout for those instructors who play music. Be warned, some of the classes they really crank up the sound and you can barely hear the instructor. This is a very popular yoga place, every class is packed - I've never been when there is a lot of empty space. If you're looking for a consistent schedule, I do like that they pretty much have vinyasa classes every weeknight at 630pm. As to the style, I don't find this to be a super spiritual yoga studio - it's very much about sweating and going through flows FAST. I like it well enough when I'm in the mood for that. I'd say none of the classes I've been to are beginner-appropriate. The instructors I've experience generally do not spend a lot of time making small adjustments or gradually easing into poses. They seem to expect you to know the poses. Definitely try the 2 weeks for $30 as a new student here, it is a good deal. But if you're looking for slower, more spiritual yoga that focuses on breath, mindfulness, and going at your own pace, I'd look elsewhere. read more

First of all I have to mention that Harmony Yoga was voted Best Yoga Studio in the South Bay by the Easy Reader. Need I say more? Of course will. I have been doing yoga on and off for years and mostly in gym settings. When I found Harmony Yoga it was such a breath of fresh air not to hear thumping music from a spin class or see weight lifters staring at themselves in the mirror. Harmony's studio has no mirrors, is spacious and flooded with natural light which is so relaxing while practicing yoga. I've taken other classes but my favorite classes are those taught by owner Najla. She's patient if you don't know a pose or are trying something for the first time. Her adjustments are gentle and helpful. The music she plays is very KCRW and adds to the flow of the class. The people who attend classes at Harmony are there to improve their practice and spend 90 minutes in a quiet and reflective state of mind. very sweet staff here and friendly students for the most part. the studio is modestly decorated which goes great with the hippie vibe of the place. this studio the venice beach vibe brought to redondo, complete with the smell of incense and hippie refreshments after class. very refreshing after some of the stuffy yoga studios i've been to in the south bay. classes are not a lululemon fashion show and the students seem to be a welcoming, closely-knit group. i got a follow up customer service call after my first visit, which i didn't expect. definitely worth a visit! parking is a breeze and the neighboring businesses share the same vibe. read more

I was extremely disappointed with this music studio. My son was invited to have a trial lesson. He enjoyed the lesson so we paid for 4 more and fully expected to continue going there for an extended period. We got a reciept saying we had 4 lessons remaining and the woman told us they would email us because they were having a shutdown for the holidays and would have to confirm when the start date would be. A few weeks later she called and claimed we missed his lesson and I informed her we were waiting for notice and recieved none. She said they dont do that and then appoligized saying there must be some sort of miscommunication. That was weird but fine, fast forward two weeks and my son has gone for 2 more lessons and they decided that's all he gets. They have given 2 different excuses that he only gets 2 lessons when we paid for 4. Either because of the missed lesson we weren't even told he was supposed to have or because the trial they now want to be paid for. It just seemed like she was trying to tell us whatever she could think of in the moment to scam us out of more money. My son will be going to a professional studio now and he is really looking forward to it. read more

They were informed via doctor's note I would not be able to take the summer solstice class after I paid for it, but did not offer a refund. I couldn't take the class, due to poor health, yet at no time did they call to tell me there was a deadline on the class nor that I would stand to lose my $100 which is a lot of money for me living on social security. Then they refused to refund my money. There is no harmony in "Harmony" yoga. There is simply greed. Shame on you Najla and Tracy. read more

When people say that Chappy is a "pervert" obviously they have not been to an Ashtanga class. I mean these people crawl all over you. It's part of yoga, just because the teacher touches you and adjusts you does not mean that he's in love with you. My first experience with Chappy was a bit odd for me as I was not use to being adjusted so much, it was weird but then I went to an Ashtanga class and it all made sense. Bryan Kest is still my favorite. Bryan and Ally Hamilton!! However, when I moved to Torrance, it was harder for me to make it to Santa Monica and I tried Chappy's class. I LOVED IT!! Now I'm a teacher and I base some of my teaching on his Music Flow Class!! read more

Love this studio! I have been coming here for 2 years. I have tried other studios but end up coming back because I love the teachers and the consistent schedule. I also love that the classes are challenging. Tip: The beginner classes are meant for beginners and the "all levels" classes are meant to make you sweat! So beware, you will get your workout in! Every teacher is different so it is a good idea to try out different classes to find your fit/style. Also, I love the music. But it can get loud so if you have trouble hearing sit toward the front. It doesn't matter where you sit anyway. Everyone sees everyone stretching and it shouldn't really matter. Everyone is friendly in the classes. The space is clean and well decorated! I would like to see people wipe up after themselves after practice... But that is an issue I have with some of the customers not the studio. The only thing I would like to see more of are couples classes! My husband has been to a couple workshops with me and he loves them! Wish there were more! But it's just a friendly suggestion ;) read more

My husband and I have been been going to this studio for a couple years now. We really enjoy Najila's classes (as well as other instructor's). Unfortunately, they recently hiked up the prices significantly (from 10-11/class to 16-17/class). It's just too expensive and not worth it in my opinion, especially considering the southbay is full of yoga studios with more reasonable pricing. We'll be finding another yoga place. read more

I have been taking Chappy's class for about 3 years. It is an amazing class. His flow is flawless and his music choices are motivating and fun. My first yoga experience was in his class, so about a year ago I thought I'd venture out to see what else was out there. While there are some other great classes and studios around the area, his class is just different (in a good way). This is a different kind of yoga studio. I have been practicing yoga for 3 years and I like this place because it is laid back. I was sick of the overly spiritual attitude of some studios and the hypocritical attitude where the teachers preach of opening your hearts to and being welcoming to all while you are clearly looked down on by the rest of the class and sometimes the teacher if you don't come in with your $200 dollar mat and your $300 lululemon outfit. This place is a place to exercise. Sure a little spirituality, but if you come in in your sweats with a towel for a mat, no one will care. Its comfortable and relaxed and if you go to one of Chappy's classes you will get a kick ass workout, which is why I do yoga. read more

We have been coming to this beautiful space for 8 years. When I first walked in I fell in love with the beautiful murals hand painted on the walls and the spiritual Hawaiin feel of it all. Chappy has completely changed my body and mindset about exercise. My husband even got into yoga because of the great music Chappy plays and how comfortable he makes guys feel. We travel quite a bit for my husbands business and have been gone since Feb. Arriving back into town I was so excited to get back to my Sunday morning kick ass Chappy yoga class. When I walked into the studio I almost fainted. It was completely different. All the beautiful paintings were off the walls in the lobby, the plants were gone, it was so "un" Feng shui. Much to my dismay I overheard some girls talking about how Chappy sold the studio to Najla, the bitchy Chappy protege who kinda makes my skin crawl. Now it all made sense, the cold feeling, the bad decorating...etc. I will keep coming here because Chappy is staying and teaching and I would follow him anywhere. His workouts, meditations, workshops, retreats, and energy are the best I've ever experienced. You gotta check out this guys classes!! The second he leaves which I pray does not happen, I will stop coming here. It's no longer a sanctuary. This place used to have the energy of a temple. So sad :( P.S I heard Najla is painting over the AMAZING mural! If this not just hearsay and really happens I think I will actually pass out! read more

I have only been to Harmony Yoga a handful of times and the classes I took with Lisa were great. I love her energy and humor, it's what I need in a yoga class and teacher. She is informative and attentive and talks to each student as if she's known them for years. Love Keren's Sunday class and Najla's evening classes! These are tough-90 min. classes. I am in great cardio shape and I find these classes extremely challenging. Studio is very zen-like and clean. Room kept warm (85 degrees) but not hot. Wood floors cleaned after every class. Great deals on bulk classes and newbies can opt for unlimited classes for 2 weeks for $30! read more
