The selection they have works for people with different budgets, too! We were greeted by Yolanda! She was super sweet and extremely patient when I couldn't find the right setting. We initially took some pieces in to get cleaned and inspected. They did a great job and Yolanda was very attentive and very easy to talk to. My wife had spotted an earring set she liked, so I called Yolanda back to inquire at a later date for a surprise gift. I stopped in and she showed me the set my wife had seen along with a few other sets as additional options. I ended up buying the original set for a great price, but I was happy she showed me some less expensive options in case I wanted to go that route. I was recently engaged and was very particular about buying an engagement ring. I visited a lot of stores around town and didn't find anything that I was drawn to or anyone that I really trusted to help educate me on my big decision. Then I met Yolanda. My wife lost the diamond out of wedding ring several months ago. We had originally planned to go to at least three jewelers so as to minimize the chance of making the wrong decision for a new diamond. A friend of a friend recommended Harold Stevens Jewelers so we decided to make this the 1st stop. As it turns out we actually ended up working with Harold (the owner of Harold Jewelers). Harold was great he took the time to explain many of the nuances of diamonds and diamond selection. We spent about 1 1/2 hours talking to Harold and looking at several diamonds. He went as far as to show us two different diamonds with important GIA ratings differences. Once we thought we could pick one over the other he mixed them up and asked us which was which. We were not able to definitively pick one, yet the price difference was significant. We ended up selecting a diamond that my wife is very happy with. We also had Harold's do some work on my worn wedding ring and fix a couple of issues with my wife's ring. All in all it was a really good experience and we believe we got a good deal. He also helped me select the perfect cushion cut diamond that fit perfectly with the band. He kept me updated on the timing of the ring coming in and once it arrived it was perfect. Just as I ordered. Ryan was patient with me but also helped me come to decisions. I purchased my wife's engagement ring here and they did a wonderful job. They have a great selection of diamonds, including fancy ones. They had a beautiful pale yellow diamond that really went with the vintage style setting I chose. We also purchased our wedding bands here and Yolanda was just great. I yelped the top rated stores in SD and made at least one attempt to visit the top 5 jewelers based on feedbacks and recommendations. We had a fantastic experience at Harold Stevens Jewelers! As we ring shopped, we visited several jewelers in the area and knew that we had found the perfect jeweler when we met Ryan at Harold Stevens. My gemstone watchband needed repairing (again), and I took it back to Harold Stevens Jewelers. They're the only place that can repair it and make it look like new. I cant take it just anywhere, because the gemstones would melt. They covered up the gemstones and did the repairs (both times) with a laser. My fiance apparently went to several jewelers before stumbling upon Harold Stevens Jewelers in Downtown San Diego. He was more than pleased with the service that they provide him and felt that they answered any and all of his questions (and apparently he had quite a few). They helped him find the quality and simplicity that he was looking for in the engagement ring that he finally decided on and he was able to hand pick the diamond, which made him even more happy and thrilled with Harold Stevens. Immediately when I walked in I felt like I wanted to do business there. The staff was very professional and it just seemed like they were different than the rest of the Jewelry stores I visited. I looked on Yelp and picked three stores to visit and this one proved to be by far the best. I was first greeted by the store owner, Harold, who ended up working with me the whole time. I showed him my ring design and told him what type of stone I was looking for. He took the time to really educate me on looking at diamonds and didn't try to sell me on any one particular stone. He brought out a few stones for me to look at and went and got more when we narrowed down what I was looking for. I really appreciated that he let me pick out the perfect stone without pushing me in any one direction. He really made it fun and exciting!!! I also had them create the custom designed ring. I gave them my drawing and once I picked out the stone they got to work. They did an outstanding job with my very tight timeframe without compromising quality. The ring came out exactly like I wanted and my fiancé loves it! Communication was excellent as well. If I had general questions or feedback on the ring design CAD model, they responded quickly. We found Harold Steven's Jewelers when we were seaching for a wedding band for my husband. The service was very good and not pressured as we were still not sure of what style of band to get. Even when we said we were still looking around - they didn't pressure us to buy, they simply took our information so if and when we came back we knew what we had looked at etc. We did end up going back and getting a very nice Tungsten/Platinum band. And although we did not get my engagement ring or band from them, they were very nice about taking my rings in to be cleaned, checked and polished. My husband was so mis-guided and overpaid. I know his intention was good, but he ended up making a poor selection, overpaid and the story only goes down hill from there. I hardly give out one stars and there are plenty of other five star customers who are happy, wonderful for them. However, if anything doesn't go swimmingly well... or you are not a high roller, then consider yourself ill-advised to go there and should truly shop around, unless you have money to gamble and waste. Gems of La Costa would give you better value and service at their modest location. You feel confident and walk away pleased, knowing the certified appraised value if needed. When picking out my engagement ring I was super excited! They did a very good job of hooking me. I looked at several different styles of rings and then I decided on a pear shape with a halo and diamonds halfway down the setting. Being that I am a very active person I also purchased a plain band from them to wear instead of my ring. I barely wore the ring and I lost a diamond on the setting. When I went into the store I felt very belittled and like it was all my fault, I began crying in the store. Being that my mother is a gemologist she stepped in and eventually they agreed to fix it. Not much longer after that I had gotten back to school in Georgia and then the shank on the ring snapped. I have had my ring for about two years now. And that all happened within the first six months. Just a few weeks ago I lost another diamond in around the halo. and that's why I decided to do a review now. I have completely given up that I will have this ring forever and that so disappointing since this is supposed to be my forever ring. I now understand that the setting I have picked out is one that is likely to have these problems but if I was told this before purchasing there would have been no way I would have bought this ring. On top of that my long term plan was to eventually upgrade my center stone and they said they would take exactly what I had paid for and put it towards another ring if I were to traded in. When I went in one day talking to them about it because they had a sale going on and the ring I had wanted but was way out of our budget was in the sale area. They then called me back to talk more about it and told me they would only give me the value for my center stone and that the ring I had saw on the floor was accidentally left out and not a part of the sale. Overall, the purchasing process was easy but in the long-haul I would think very well long and hard before going to a family jeweler again. I now have to carry very expensive insurance on my ring because of all the work I have to get on it to make sure it stays the way I purchased it. read more

I would like to say that I purchased a custom made ring here a couple years ago and never really felt like they appreciated me as a client. They didn't take the time to sit down with me to really figure out what I wanted my ring to look like. I gave them my budget, and they said they could work with that, then drew me a sketch. When I came back to view the sketch, since they didn't do it in front of me, it was way too big, too much white gold, and I wanted it smaller. Even though they made it smaller with considerably less white gold, they never told me it would be cheaper. I was never in there for more than 20 min each time. When I received my ring, the white gold on the inside was carved out to make it less white gold. I never felt like valued customer here. I am only now writing this review because I keep getting mail from them, which always reminds me how I wouldn't purchase anything from them again. He was able to quickly identify my style and showed me a good number of rings that suited me. He took the time to explain the difference in each ring, how it could be customized, how it was made, pros/cons, etc. Once I narrowed down the top three rings, he helped (kindly) guide my decision making process by educating me on all factors of those rings, the settings and the diamond(s). My fiancée got a stunning ring here! But when I went in to get it resized they overcharge and are snippy. I wouldn't recommend this place for service or competitive pricing. They will be polite when you're dropping several thousand on a piece of jewelry but not polite to you for customer service issues. We are having an amazing experience with Ryan K. at Harold Stevens. We were in search of the perfect engagement ring. I actually found them by way of their TV commercial, it was classy and not cheesy as we had found most other jewelers to be. It took me to their web site where I found an amazing selection, which in turn brought us in to their store. This is a big step for us. I was worried about being intimidated. Not the case Ryan, was so very helpful. We found "the ring" but I was not in love with the stone so Ryan suggested they could order a selection of stones and I could pick which color I liked the best. He worked around our schedules, we came in and picked out the most beautiful stone and..... wah lah, our gorgeous ring came to life!! I then knew this is where I wanted to design my wedding band. Ryan was very attentive in seeing and hearing what I liked and didn't like, he came up with an amazing custom creation. I can't wait to have it finished! I also would like to note we had a pretty limited budget but they have been able to work with us and we are so very pleased! They also did an amazing restoration to a ring I had received from my Grandmother who had passed, they meticulously cleaned it and sized it. It came back to life, I never could have imagined what beautiful ring I had until they did their magic. All in all it has been such a pleasure working with Ryan and Harold Stevens.
