I was excited to see that a Harold's were opening up in Maywood. I stopped in one day after work and it seemed to be hectic. The woman behind the counter was on the phone taking online orders and prepping the orders. I patiently waited in line until it was time to place my order. I waited close to 20 minutes and I was next in line. I ordered the 3 piece wing dinner with mild sauce on the side and fries. I requested that my wings be cook a little longer to be extra crispy with lemon pepper seasoning. I waited in line longer but 5 minutes to get my food. I was really hoping my food was cooked per my request. Totally disappointed. My chicken was crispy on the outside, but not fully cooked inside, lack of seasoning and no mild sauce. I had to go back inside and asked for mild sauce. Which I stated to put on the side of my order. I came and supported this business but will not be returning back. read more

Known solely for chicken, I recently discovered that Harold's Chicken Shack also has fish on their menu. After discovering that, it became a must visit for me, being that I recently made the transition from lacto ovo vegetarian to pescatarian earlier this year. Though it took me some time to visit this location, I was bound to at some point because it sits within a short radius of a hospital I work out of. And this location itself sits amongst a strip of businesses that I am very familiar with along W Roosevelt Rd in Maywood Illinois. Looking through the menu, I took interest mostly in its selection of fish dinners, which consisted of cat fish steak, perch, cat fish fillet, fish nuggets, and cat fish tali. Out of all within that selection of fish dinners, I ended up ordering their cat fish fillet, with peach cobbler. Whether it be Grubhub or Uber Eats, I love ordering online because it is convenient. Most of the time my orders are completed upon my arrival or near complete. By the time I arrived at Harold's my order was waiting behind the counter during this ordering experience. At the counter I was informed by the employee that there was no peach cobbler available. So as my alternative to the peach cobbler, I selected a slice of red velvet cake. Grateful to have had a smooth online ordering experience because the likelihood of me ordering online again at the location is very high. The whole drive back to my residence, I kid you not my mouth salivated as I smelled my order which sat in the passenger seat of my vehicle. As for its taste, the cat fish fillet tasted wonderful and even surpassed the expectations I had, which included skepticism because Harold's is primarily known for its chicken rather than fish. The cat fish fillet was neither overly nor under seasoned with lemon pepper and oh my was it tender! I would consider ordering it again as a future order next to the other fish dinners that had my interest on the menu. After this ordering experience with Harold's Chicken Shack, I am very open to visiting and ordering from again outside of another one of my favorites in the immediate area known as JJ Fish and Chicken. Decided to try this new location. I called in my order ahead of time and was told to give them about 25 minutes. Went to pick up my order , I was greeted warmly and my order was ready upon my arrival. I had wings and gizzards with mild sauce. The chicken and gizzards were fried perfectly, fresh and hot. When we saw that Harold's Chicken has finally opened near us, we were anticipating a good restaurant. But of course, all Harold's Chicken are not the same. For this location, that is certainly the case. I don't know what happened or maybe it was a rocky grand opening. It was crowded but it was to be expected for a newly opened restaurant. My son and I went in one Tuesday evening at around 6. We ordered 10 wings each. The sign outside said $9.99, but it was ringing up $10.49 before taxes. I'm not going to trip because the cashier was very nice. He told us beforehand that it would be a 30 minute wait. I didn't mind waiting at all. We ended up waiting 45 minutes for our order. Even though we were misquoted the wait time, it was still ok. I was in for a big surprise when my son and I got home. I was excited to dig in and hoping that it would be good. Well, it was not. The wings were VERY salty! They were also stingy with the mild sauce. The only thing that was edible were the fries. I was so disappointed and felt cheated out of my money. I was also cheated out of 45 minutes of my life that I will never get back. My son said the same about his food. My husband was at work but tried the wings later. He also said it was salty. We really want to give them the benefit of the doubt and try them again, but definitely not anytime soon. I will get a smaller order the next time and hope that they just had a rough start. Not like the south side Harold's. I've tried this location on a few occasions since they've opened and they are only mid. Nothing to get excited about. I was very excited hearing that they were opening in the western Suburbs but that has quickly faded. Today, I had a taste for chicken gizzards, but I was disappointed again! Currently staying in Chicago for a couple of days and decided to give this place a shot. This was my first time at any Harold's, and it absolutely will not be the last. When I arrived, I was warmly greeted by staff. I told him it was my first time, and he was very kind in giving me some suggestions, along with allowing me to try out the infamous mild sauce for the first time which was amazing! The food came out 20 minutes later, and I decided to eat in the establishment, where the staff were kind enough to give me bottle of mild sauce for my meal. The food came to me hot & ready. Overall: 4/10 The food was pretty mid. I ordered the chicken and fish combo with a large taffy grapes. Even though I called my order in ahead of time, it still took a long while to be ready. Service was okay-- The bread was stale, which was disappointing. The first time, I was given sauces in a cup that were clearly old; they were stuck together like they'd been sitting for a minute (or a few). That threw me off. I ordered a 10 piece wing bucket. When I got my food it was in 2 bags, so I thought it was 2, 5pc wings in each bag. I drive to Naperville to eat it with family. I opened the 1 bag and it was a 3pc tender meal. I wasn't about drive back to Maywood, so we ate the 1st bag of food. We didn't open the 2nd bag. My daughter opened it later when she returned home. The next morning she told me the 2nd bag was a 2pc leg and thigh. I told her oh no I gotta go back to tell them about that. Now I live in Country Club Hills which is about 30 miles away from this Harold's. Who would make up a messed up order story a drive 30 miles unless their order was actually messed up? I get their explained the order mix up, and the lady ask me why I didn't bring back the food when I saw it was wrong. I explained to her I went to Naperville with the food. So basically she told me I needed to bring the food back so she could see the messed up order. She said how does she know I'm telling the truth. I told her, lady I came all the way from Country Club Hills which is 175th St South, do you really think I came that far with a made up story over some chicken. Does that make any sense? Would you drive that far yourself? She act like I was there for free food, which I told her I just want them to make me whole because they shorted me on food. Just give me something to make me whole. I Love Your Chicken. I don't love the customer service from 1 person who works there. As a TikTok influencer I made sure after I walked out of your restaurant earlier today(1/13/26) I posted my negative experience every time this woman is working there. She has an attitude once I ask how I would like my order to be made. She has NO Patience or TRAINING on CUSTOMER SERVICE. Things that she asked me after my Oder is ready is always "FREE." Example: Plastic bag, the small mild sauce, napkins, and a plastic fork. She asked me would I like a plastic bag?" That should be a given" because the moisture from the heat and the sauce makes the paper bag wet and it rips open very easily. She gives me 2 napkins knowingly I need more because the sauce is overwhelmingly messy on your hands so I would need more than a few napkins. I have to ask for a fork and she gets an attitude when I asked; as if I'm bothering her. I ask for "1" mild sauce and she comes up with 1 for .75 cents and now it's 2 for a $1.00 and last time she said a smart ass remark," I Don't PLAY THOSE GAMES!!!" What did I do to you? When it's for free any other time I go there it's automatically placed in my bag without me asking. I observed her treating men like royalty and black women like SH#+ and she's a black woman!! When she's NOT WORKING HER SHIFT that day or evening. I'm ALWAYS giving the most amazing customer service and positive energy. I've supported your business numerous times and I drive over 30 mins to spend money on the best chicken I've tasted from a Harold's Chicken.
