You can't depend on any consistency at this Harold's. Sometimes the chicken is hot and crispy, sometimes not. Sometimes you call in an order, and it's ready when they say it will be. Sometimes you call in an order, they tell you 20 minutes, then when you arrive you have to wait another 20-30 minutes. I patiently waited, thinking at least it will be fresh and hot. but today it was cold and rubbery. It takes more than dropping food in a fryer to properly run a restaurant. I wish they would pay a little more attention to customer service. read more

I hate when they tell me 20 mins and I'm waiting an hour. Their sauce is not authentic Harold's Mild sauce. I don't visit this spot very often, but my children wanted Harold's. The one in Chicago Heights is much better. This Harold's Chicken is the worst.. you call I'm a order and they reply "20 mins" you arrive 30 mins later and the order is not ready then the customer have to reorder because there is no record of the order. This have happen twice. They need to close this Harold's Chicken Down. They are unprofessional and unorganized. The service and food can be hit or miss at this location. There are times when I have walked out due to poor customer service There seems to be a rotation of people behind the counter. I'm never going back to this location. Twice in a row they screwed up my food. Friday I ordered the six piece special. When I arrived home and opened my order the chicken pieces looked as if they came from a sparrow. The meat was tough and stringy. We tossed it. A waste of money. These were the tiniest toughest and nastiest bird parts I've ever seen or tasted. If they were even bird. This is not the first time there's been problems with this location. My visit prior to this one I was given stale bread and they forgot my coleslaw with the order. On a previous visit the food was over salted. The food and service used to be excellent at this location. They've declined to the level of crash and burn. Like baseball, three strikes and you're out. I'm done. I'm pissed that they felt it was okay to serve miniature animal parts passed off as chicken. To add insult to injury, they don't have the decency to answer their phones most of the time. On the rare occasions someone picks up they place you on hold then disconnect you. In retrospect I should have saved the pieces of alleged chicken and had them analyzed by the health department. Most locations you order through bullet-proof glass, although the one in Matteson does not. There's also a waiting period for your food, approx. 10 minutes. However, keep in mind, this means they're cooking your food to order, FRESH, not picking wings off of a drying pan that have been sitting underneath a heat lamp all day and drowning them in sauce. Ghetto and loud. Customer service is non existent. I won't be frequenting this location ever again. I will make the drive to Homewood or even the city. We are in a middle of a pandemic. Which is very hectic but if you're gonna have your business open in the midst of it have some structure! How are you expecting people to order and wait for the order to be called from outside? Common sense would be to have somebody in position to handle that. But whoever's bright idea was to yell at the top of their lungs as if you're gonna hear them from outside was hilarious. Also how are you asking a customer that called in a order what was in the order? Did you not write it down? If I wasn't treating my staff to this bogus establishment I would've walked out. Also if you're going to be open during a pandemic don't answer the phone in one hand and handle food in the other. When I received my order the chicken was fried too long very dark coloring it only had mild sauce on 3 wings and no hot sauce no lemon pepper. The other 3 wings was completely dry. Every Friday at work a bunch of get Harold's Chicken. It's the highlight of everyone's week. Like a victory meal for finishing a hard week. The food is amazing. Although I generally only get the 4 tender meal with mild, I've tried other items and never been disappointed. The price is hard to beat, extremely reasonable for the quantity of food you get. The staff here is really friendly, they always take good care of us when we come in. We generally have some interaction with the owner, cashier, and guy preparing the chicken when we come in, never just at a "clerk" level. Quality customer service. I'm pretty sure that if I was on death row and they asked what I wanted my last meal to be, I'd be asking for a 4 Tender Meal w Xtra Mild from Matteson Harold's. Love this place. read more

I love Harolds, but I hate this location. Every time I go, there is SOMETHING wrong with my order when I get home. I always order wings with extra mild sauce, fried hard, lemon pepper and salt&pepper. I have no problem getting my order done correctly at locations in the city, but never at this one. They make my chicken however they like. Sometimes its extra mild without the seasonings, other times its not extra mild with the seasons. So I'm left with unseasoned wet chicken or seasoned dry chicken. The worse part is that they charge for ANYTHING extra. So I'm being charged for things they forget to put on there. read more

This isn't a place you want to visit if you don't know the staff because even after calling in an order and being told 15 minutes for your order you can arrive in 15 minutes pay for your order, and then expect to wait 25 more minutes for your order while someone who knows the staff with a call in order can come in 10 minutes after you, change their order and still be able to walk in and out in less than 5 minutes. I love this Harold's Chicken location in Matteson! They fry it good every time and the mild sauce is that traditional mild sauce, not BBQ SAUCE! Get chicken wings with mild sauce and black pepper. It's so good. Sometimes they're skimpy with the Mild sauce so make sure they put enough. Service is ok. read more

I visited Harold's Chicken Shack on my last visit to Chicago. I always hear people talking about how awesome it is. Well, this location is lackluster at best. The customer service is very sh*tty. Not to mention, it seems that the head bad customer service chief in charge is the manager or owner. The way they operate makes me think that they feel as if they are doing you a favor by allowing you to purchase their chicken. The chicken was OKAY, nothing to write home about or maybe my taste buds were disgusted by the negative energy in the place. Who knows. Of course, my order would have to be incorrect and they fixed it but there was no empathy toward my inconvenience or anything. Word on the street is that they get more biz because they're open later than the other location in the vicinity. I don't know that to be true, but what I do know is that I WILL NOT be returning to this location. read more

Got just hatched chicken wings, 1 toasted piece of bread with hardened grease spots, half-filled container of coleslaw and 1 SMALL container each of hot and mild sauce- since I got baby wings the 2 was enough. NEVER going back. I need regular sized wings or atleast a few extra if I'm gonna get chick wings, atleast 4 oz of sauce each and even though I don't eat them, 2 slices of soft spongy bread and a full container of coleslaw. read more
