upscale moody bar, decent happy hour, but otherwise mediocre restaurant. conveniently located in center city, harp and crown is surrounded by restaurants i personally think are better. the large space, the dim lighting, and the elegant decor do make harp and crown a good spot for a date, a work outing, or a business lunch/dinner. i think that the bar is decent for an upscale bar, and the downstairs are moody and have a fun bowling alley. definitely a one of a kind event space. the happy hour is decent with a whole pizza for $8, but the rotating specialty is hit or miss. the meatballs and the mac and cheese are both fairly small, and the cheeseburger is one of the saddest cheeseburgers i've eaten at a restaurant. not pictured, but i've also been for the brunch buffet, which was fun the first time but i wouldn't go again. $38 per person for food isn't cheap, and the options were fairly basic. the brunch is a good option for larger group outings with friends or family. overall, harp and crown is a safe option for food but the bites are rather lackluster. i'm sure I'll be back again just because of its convenient location. read more

Brought my daughter here for a Valentine's Day dinner on a last-minute reservation, and I'm really glad we pulled it off. The space alone is worth the visit -- beautiful interior, the kind of place that feels special without trying too hard. We went full small plates mode and shared four dishes: burrata with leek, walnut, and sourdough (a classic done right), chicken dumplings with basil, jalapeño, and lemon (bright, a little heat, very good), grilled octopus with tomatillo, chili, and lime (tender, well-balanced, my personal favorite of the night), and a margherita pizza that was simple and exactly what it needed to be. The whole spread worked really well together. I had a Maker's Mark Manhattan that was, frankly, fabulous. No notes. Service was a bit slow -- we sat with empty water glasses more than once -- but it was Valentine's Day and the place was packed. I'm not going to pile on servers for having a brutal night. They were warm and clearly doing their best under the circumstances. Would absolutely come back. First stop on my day trip to Philly was at Harp & Crown for brunch. Located in downtown Philly, Harp & Crown is cozy and inviting and provides dope atmosphere. As for the food, there was everything you could possibly want for brunch. Pancakes, waffles, eggs, potatoes, a carving station with prime rib (which I heard was delicious) and made to order omelets to name a few. The service was great and I hate that I can't remember our servers name because she was an absolute sweetheart. She made sure to check on us often and she and the staff were quick to clear plates when we were done. All in all I definitely enjoyed my time at Harp & Crown and will be back to try out some of their other menu items. read more

Harp & Crown is a stunning restaurant in downtown Philly - seriously, the vibes here are incredible! They have a very diverse menu, which I appreciate as a vegetarian. Their drink menu seems to change often, and this time we tried the Spritz, with vodka instead of gin. Please be advised: we were informed that they are a "straw-free" facility, which is a bit annoying - when it comes to certain drinks, straws are necessary. So bring your own or be prepared to walk next door from the deli and grab one! We tried a variety of items: The good: Fig Ricotta toast (my fave of the evening); Mushroom Truffle Pizza; and the Sweet Potato (addicting!) The ok: Mac & Cheese - just could've used a bit more flavor/salt The blah: Brussels (sauce was too acidic and not well balanced); Roasted Beets; Eggplant Overall, I definitely had higher expectations for all the incredible reviews I read, but our meal was not bad per se. read more

I came here for brunch - I really wanted to like this place. For the good - nice ambiance with dark lighting and decent food. For the bad - I came in for brunch on my reservation time and I had to wait over 10 mins. I was seated, but I wasn't explained the brunch situation and I had to wait a decent amount of time for my waitress to come by and not even give us a run down on the brunch situation. As soon as I got there, I was waiting for plates to be brought out so I could get started on the food. Where I was seated, a piece of wood was popped off that kept hitting my head. They replaced most of the food in a timely fashion, but the chocolate frosting for the donut station was out the entire time I was there. Went here last week for pre-birthday drinks and dinner for my boyfriend. We really liked the drinks and vibe here the last time we came here some months ago, and felt the same way this time. The dim lighting at night gives it a more lounge, sexy/romantic feel. We sta at the bar like last time. Our bartender was cool, super friendly and made the drinks really really well. We got a few drinks and some apps to share. The Garlic Prawns were good size and tasted very fresh. I don't eat pork but took a bite of the ribs and it was pretty tasty. Also enjoyed the chicken wings. But the stars were the drinks. So we'll made, great balance so there isn't an overpowering taste of liquor but they were definitely strong! Nestled at the midpoint of the many restaurants on 15th and Sansom sits Harp and Crown, a Schulson collective spot with a cheap, affordable happy hour that lasts everyday. I visited in a party of three for their small bites and wine which didn't disappoint. To preface, the entry is a bit confusing. I walked right past it, despite the signage above from sidewalk view, because its double doors blended in with the curtains and foliage. It's easy to view inside looking out... but a bit harder the other way around. I was sat in the outdoor entry space, which provided a lot of natural lighting but also made us privy to the frequent movement from other customers and their staff. While we didn't sit inside, it looked to be much darker as other reviewers have noted. Harp and Crown also offers a downstairs bowling alley that you can rent, perfect for parties and reserved fun. As for the food, each of our bites were delicious. My favorite goes to the specialty pizza they had on offer (which rotates by the day), but applause goes to the mac and cheese and lamb meatballs too. I think that five dishes are enough if you're also in a party of three. The atmosphere brings a great time, and also speaks to the accessible quality that is a Schulson-owned brand. read more

We finally got to try their happy hour. So it was a little embarrassing because it took like 5 min to get inside because we couldn't figure out which doors to go through. There's no sign and we had to ask a random guy who thankfully knew. The bar was full so we waited for a little. Several people came and went when they couldn't get a seat at the bar- their happy hour is obviously popular. Then one of the hosts kindly offered a table for us where we could still order off the happy hour menu. Our server was really sweet and helpful. The decor is very nice however I went there at in the evening & I can't even see what's on the wall. The interior is so dark I have to use a flashlight to read the menu. I ordered 3 items on the menu ; & a glass of wine. I ordered the bread (yes you have to pay for it) then a tortellini & salmon. The pasta is not great ; the salmon tastes pretty good. A must try place for their restaurant week menu - one of the only places that does a 7 course meal for RW anymore (im pretty sure their tasting menu for $55 pp is the same but i havent tried it so don't quote me on it) Roasted eggplant is a must have from the veggie section, anything from the raw section is great, and the rigatoni and spicy soppresseta pizza are what you would expect (not rave-worthy but im happy with what you get). Giving it 4 stars because im not a huge fan of the selections on their happy hour menu, and their steak frites were kinda dry and left a lil more to be desired. This place will start off by telling you that you need to order all this food when you really don't need to. Our waiter was telling us he ordered three small plates, a pizza, and entree and was content. Meanwhile he's like this ent. Realistically, a cocktail, a small plate or two, and an entree would suffice. You don't need 5 orders per person. Lamb meatballs were okay. Little on the gamier side (but not too bad), and the sauce was decent. I prefer spicier. I wasn't too fond of the date relish, but that's my mistake. I knew I wasn't big on sweet and savory combo. Spicy sopressata pizza was ok. I don't like shishito peppers since it tastes bitter to me, so I asked if it is possible to sub it for poblano. Waiter says maybe, but maybe not since it may be pre-mixed in. Fair enough. But if they can they will. Pizza comes out. More like pepperoni pizza, but it's the same - not like I'd know subtle differences. I'm just not use to seeing tiny sopressata. The shishito peppers were topped on, not mixed it. So it looks like it was doable to use. Poblano they just didn't feel like it. So instead of sweet and spicy, it was more sweet and bitter. I just picked the shishitos off. Scallops was my favorite of the three I got. Not one of the better dishes I have had, but the best I've had here. I think it was four scallops within corn and poblano peppers and mint, which you can't really taste, but I'm not too concerned about tasting mint with scallops. Broccoli side had a fishy after taste. Their dessert menu description could use some work. Berry mousse is more like a berry cake. Menu said mixed berries with pistachio ice cream. Not even close. There were no fresh whole berries involved. It was mixed/naked in to this crumpet looking thing. Whoopie pie - not a fan at all. I will admit I ordered this not knowing or understanding what a whoopie pie is so I'll give them a pass on that part. But the blueberry sorbet? It tastes like a sorbet version of those dried fruit rolls you but for 50 cents at the grocery store counter. My whoopie pie ignorance has been cleared. Service is good though aside from the deception as to how much to order. Water glasses were constantly being filled, and plates were cleared swiftly. The service would be more of 4, and food 3. And the Carroll Garden cocktail rules. Unfortunately food did not wow me enough here. read more

I've been to this establishment each time I travel to PHL. The vibe is laid back and the garden room is so cozy to enjoy the food and great, interesting drinks. While the cheesy grits and pot de cream were amazing...everything else was similar to a fancy hotel buffet. And why was there apple cider vinegar next to the maple syrup? We were seated in the garden room which was beautifully decorated and spacious. We started off with two cocktails and by request, our server was able to make a strawberry mojito happen for my friend (shoutout to Kyle!!). By recommendation, we ordered a few plates across the menu to explore all they have to offer. Upon some tough decisions, we ended up going with their homemade perogies, caesar salad, tomato pie, and mac and cheese. They had happy hour going till 7PM and it had the perfect ambiance with the interior decorations, the crowd, how nice the drinks were, etc. The happy hour deals were great and we both opted for pizzas which was a decent size pizza for $8. Our drinks were both $8 each so overall would say it was worth it. Because of how busy this restaurant was, they did have the front portion of the restaurant for those who wanted to do happy hour for one hour, but they do get your food and drinks out to you quickly. read more
