Took the regional rail into center city for brunch here. $10 train ride 6min walk If you prefer to pay for high parking there's a lot right at the corner. I enjoyed brunch at Harp & Crown and will definitely be back. The buffet had a great variety of both breakfast and lunch options. My favorites were the smoked lox, shrimp cocktail, fresh salads, mini sandwiches, and the French toast. They also had biscuits with chicken sausage gravy, a juice station, and plenty of other hot and cold selections. The desserts were decent, but the food was definitely the highlight. The service was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. One thing I actually loved was the small plates they provide. It naturally encourages you to take smaller portions so you can sample more of the buffet without overloading your plate. Mimosas are available for $10 each. There were three of us, one person ordered a mimosa, and our total came to $134 before tip, which I thought was very reasonable for the quality and variety. The only downside is that there's no obvious sign outside letting you know you've arrived at Harp & Crown. Just head to 1525 Sansom Street it's right next to Giuseppe & Sons, which also has a great happy hour. Overall, great food, good service, reasonable pricing, and a brunch I'd happily recommend. read more

The décor and ambiance make it an excellent choice for a date night or special occasion, and the service throughout the evening was outstanding. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the same standard. The menu feels like elevated bistro fare, but several dishes fell short. The lamb meatballs were disappointing. They did not taste like lamb and seemed to contain too many fillers. When a dish is simply three meatballs served on their own, you expect the quality of the meat to be the star, but that wasn't the case. The steak was very good, but the octopus was overcooked and lacked the tenderness you would expect. Overall, I would gladly return for the atmosphere and excellent service, but I hope the kitchen improves because the food has the potential to match such a beautiful setting. read more

BLUF: Amazing decor, fun cocktails and hearty food about a mile away from Independence Hall. The first time I visited Harp & Crown I was blown away. The decor is dark and moody with lots of vintage hardware and decor plus lively plants. This time, I equally enjoyed the decor including the thoughtfully designed bathrooms. However, I don't think it was worth the visit given what we paid for a round trip Uber from South Philly. Service was slow at 5pm on a Friday and the food was a bit salty. Admittedly, we had the cheesesteak egg rolls, fried chicken and steak frites so we probably should have ordered a salad in lieu of one of those heavy dishes. The cheesesteak egg rolls, and the wrapper in particular, were heavier than I imagined. The steak frites was cooked perfectly - medium rare steak and crispy fries. The fried chicken portion was generous. Food aside, I still love the decor. I felt like an old person having to use the flashlight on my phone to read the menu but I guess I am an old person now. I saw several others doing the same so I don't feel so bad. Something that was quite awesome was how chilly it was in the restaurant. Despite being a "feels like temperature of 115 outside" it was a very cool 70 degrees or less inside and that was much appreciated. Brought my daughter here for a Valentine's Day dinner on a last-minute reservation, and I'm really glad we pulled it off. The space alone is worth the visit -- beautiful interior, the kind of place that feels special without trying too hard. We went full small plates mode and shared four dishes: burrata with leek, walnut, and sourdough (a classic done right), chicken dumplings with basil, jalapeño, and lemon (bright, a little heat, very good), grilled octopus with tomatillo, chili, and lime (tender, well-balanced, my personal favorite of the night), and a margherita pizza that was simple and exactly what it needed to be. The whole spread worked really well together. I had a Maker's Mark Manhattan that was, frankly, fabulous. No notes. Service was a bit slow -- we sat with empty water glasses more than once -- but it was Valentine's Day and the place was packed. I'm not going to pile on servers for having a brutal night. First stop on my day trip to Philly was at Harp & Crown for brunch. Located in downtown Philly, Harp & Crown is cozy and inviting and provides dope atmosphere. As for the food, there was everything you could possibly want for brunch. Pancakes, waffles, eggs, potatoes, a carving station with prime rib (which I heard was delicious) and made to order omelets to name a few. The service was great and I hate that I can't remember our servers name because she was an absolute sweetheart. She made sure to check on us often and she and the staff were quick to clear plates when we were done. All in all I definitely enjoyed my time at Harp & Crown and will be back to try out some of their other menu items. read more

I went there for brunch. Finding the place was the hardest, I was on the right street and address but didn't see the name of the business. When I finally got inside because a person walking by said that the business I was in front of is Harp & Crown; I went in. I met some friends there. We sat at a booth near the bar area. That area doesn't get natural light and is gloomy and just too dark for a morning brunch. The food was just okay. The did have a variety of options but everything I tried was just okay. I did like the Mac & Cheese. The juice was pretty good, not sugary but I'm used to that; my friends on the other hand didn't like that the juice wasn't sweet enough. The bathroom said WC and I wasn't aware that there would also be men in there. When I came out of the stall there was a man entering another stall. I was surprised by that. All in all, they had a good variety of food and our service was pretty good. Their drink menu seems to change often, and this time we tried the Spritz, with vodka instead of gin. Please be advised: we were informed that they are a "straw-free" facility, which is a bit annoying - when it comes to certain drinks, straws are necessary. So bring your own or be prepared to walk next door from the deli and grab one! We tried a variety of items: The good: Fig Ricotta toast (my fave of the evening); Mushroom Truffle Pizza; and the Sweet Potato (addicting!) Went here last week for pre-birthday drinks and dinner for my boyfriend. We really liked the drinks and vibe here the last time we came here some months ago, and felt the same way this time. The dim lighting at night gives it a more lounge, sexy/romantic feel. We sta at the bar like last time. Our bartender was cool, super friendly and made the drinks really really well. We got a few drinks and some apps to share. The Garlic Prawns were good size and tasted very fresh. I don't eat pork but took a bite of the ribs and it was pretty tasty. Also enjoyed the chicken wings. But the stars were the drinks. So we'll made, great balance so there isn't an overpowering taste of liquor but they were definitely strong! Nestled at the midpoint of the many restaurants on 15th and Sansom sits Harp and Crown, a Schulson collective spot with a cheap, affordable happy hour that lasts everyday. I visited in a party of three for their small bites and wine which didn't disappoint. To preface, the entry is a bit confusing. I walked right past it, despite the signage above from sidewalk view, because its double doors blended in with the curtains and foliage. It's easy to view inside looking out... but a bit harder the other way around. I was sat in the outdoor entry space, which provided a lot of natural lighting but also made us privy to the frequent movement from other customers and their staff. While we didn't sit inside, it looked to be much darker as other reviewers have noted. Harp and Crown also offers a downstairs bowling alley that you can rent, perfect for parties and reserved fun. As for the food, each of our bites were delicious. My favorite goes to the specialty pizza they had on offer (which rotates by the day), but applause goes to the mac and cheese and lamb meatballs too. I think that five dishes are enough if you're also in a party of three. The atmosphere brings a great time, and also speaks to the accessible quality that is a Schulson-owned brand. read more

For the bad - I came in for brunch on my reservation time and I had to wait over 10 mins. I was seated, but I wasn't explained the brunch situation and I had to wait a decent amount of time for my waitress to come by and not even give us a run down on the brunch situation. The decor is very nice however I went there at in the evening & I can't even see what's on the wall. The interior is so dark I have to use a flashlight to read the menu. This place will start off by telling you that you need to order all this food when you really don't need to. Our waiter was telling us he ordered three small plates, a pizza, and entree and was content. Meanwhile he's like this ent. Realistically, a cocktail, a small plate or two, and an entree would suffice. You don't need 5 orders per person. Lamb meatballs were okay. Little on the gamier side (but not too bad), and the sauce was decent. I prefer spicier. I wasn't too fond of the date relish, but that's my mistake. I knew I wasn't big on sweet and savory combo. Spicy sopressata pizza was ok. I don't like shishito peppers since it tastes bitter to me, so I asked if it is possible to sub it for poblano. Waiter says maybe, but maybe not since it may be pre-mixed in. Fair enough. But if they can they will. Pizza comes out. More like pepperoni pizza, but it's the same - not like I'd know subtle differences. I'm just not use to seeing tiny sopressata. The shishito peppers were topped on, not mixed it. So it looks like it was doable to use. Poblano they just didn't feel like it. So instead of sweet and spicy, it was more sweet and bitter. I just picked the shishitos off. Scallops was my favorite of the three I got. Not one of the better dishes I have had, but the best I've had here. I think it was four scallops within corn and poblano peppers and mint, which you can't really taste, but I'm not too concerned about tasting mint with scallops. Broccoli side had a fishy after taste. Their dessert menu description could use some work. Berry mousse is more like a berry cake. Menu said mixed berries with pistachio ice cream. Not even close. There were no fresh whole berries involved. It was mixed/naked in to this crumpet looking thing. Whoopie pie - not a fan at all. I will admit I ordered this not knowing or understanding what a whoopie pie is so I'll give them a pass on that part. But the blueberry sorbet? It tastes like a sorbet version of those dried fruit rolls you but for 50 cents at the grocery store counter. My whoopie pie ignorance has been cleared. Service is good though aside from the deception as to how much to order. Water glasses were constantly being filled, and plates were cleared swiftly. The service would be more of 4, and food 3.
