An over-baked "dessert" concoction that simply couldn't be eaten

Was looking forward to the return of some (35 YO) old school, 5-star Harper's but... Somewhat cold feeling with none of the "warmth" of our Original (Mall & SP) Harper's. You order at the counter with food delivered to your table? Seems the location does a brisk to go business? Note: My visit was in August so hopefully the staff has survived their training and learning curve? I chose The Egg-cellent Burrito - nicely prepared & presented but the filling ingredients were not blended at all? And the tasty house made salsa, hardly enough? Tried a slice of dessert with ice cream but it was so overcooked it had been made rock hard? Seemed that the GM was trying to get his arms around the operation but unlike the (closed) locations nothing positive has drawn me back four months later?

I squealed with delight when I heard that the owner of the original Harpers in Southpark was opening Harper's Cafe in Pineville. I was heart broken when the original Harpers closed and have been craving their chicken Supremes and dipping trio ever since. They are only open from 7am-3pm M-F and that is my only compliant. They are still serving up delicious food like they did at their original location. The menu is tailored towards breakfast and lunch since it is considered a "cafe" and not a full-blown restaurant that serves dinner. They have a special running for a breakfast sandwich and a drink for $8. The breakfast sandwich with bacon on a croissant is to die for! The chicken Supremes are just as amazing as they always were and are a throwback to my teenage years growing up in Charlotte. I hope that everyone checks out this new venture by the Harpers crew. Tom and his team have really done a great job bringing Harpers back to life. It has been surely missed by everyone in Charlotte.

Same take on some of the popular dishes. Counter service with a few small tables inside. Serve breakfast all day and salads, soup and sandwiches. Salad was delicious!!!! Burgers also looked good.

The restaurant was busy, but there was no wait, and we were seated immediately. Our server, Sada, was attentive and took our order within five minutes. The food arrived within ten minutes and was really good. I say "really good" instead of "great" because I've visited the original locations in New Orleans (Ruby Slipper), and you just can't beat food in NOLA. We ordered the same dishes we had there to make a fair comparison. I had the catfish and grits with a side of one cinnamon swirl pancake (a perfect combination) and iced coffee. My wife had the avocado toast--she said it tasted the same and loved that they cut the toast into four pieces here. My food tasted almost identical. I think the gravy here didn't have tasso and was a bit less seasoned (which isn't a bad thing, since dishes in New Orleans can sometimes be overseasoned). The pancake made me smile, and the iced coffee was good too. I'm happy to know I can get this meal anytime I'm in Charlotte. Ruby Sunshine is definitely at the top of my list for breakfast/brunch.

The standout for me was the blueberry lavender mimosa, easily the best mimosa I've had. It was a generous pour, too, which made it even better. As for the food, the fried green tomatoes were a bit disappointing, coming out rubbery instead of crisp. On the other hand, the biscuit was absolutely amazing, perfectly done and definitely worth ordering. Overall, a mix of hits and misses, but a few items really shined.

Biscuits and gravy are a southern staple and rarely have I had any that were really good, except here at Vicious Biscuit. Biscuits are their business. The most important elements are the biscuits and the gravy. Additions are many and varied, but if the basic two items are not both excellent, you will have a disappointing experience. The Vicious biscuit is the size of a hamburger bun. It is soft and there are bits of spice in the dough. These biscuits do not fall apart, but stay together and serve to soak up the wonderful sausage gravy that is poured on top of it. You can order just a biscuit with gravy for $8. And if you are timid, start here. Otherwise, there are add-ons like very good fried chicken, shrimp and grits, ham, pulled smoked pork, crab, bacon, fried shrimp. fried eggs and other combos. Super choices, so take time to study the menu which is extensive. Portions are great, very generous. I had their Vicious ($12). It was their Cheddar jalapeño biscuit, crispy fried chicken, maple sausage gravy, cowboy candy, with maple syrup drizzle. I was hesitant as to the maple syrup, but it is just enough to give accent to the gravy, but not super sweet. Wife had Fried Green 'Maters ($9.50) which were four fried green tomatoes, their signature pimento cheese with a pickled okra garnish. She could not eat it all, so I helped finish off the lone tomato and a bit of the cheese. Very good. Vicious Biscuit is more that a meal, it is an experience, even a journey, through this traditional southern staple, biscuits and gravy. Enjoy the trip. We might see you there.

Everything was good except the chicken was a bit dry. This a fun departure from your run-of-the-mill breakfast joint. I'd recommend giving it a try. Note they close after lunch at 2:00 though.

A lovely discrete treasure, a blessing to the South Charlotte food scene…read more This easy to find yet tucked away café was the best breakfast I've had in many years. The meal started off with an iced rosemary lavender latte crafted with their in house syrup made with cane sugar and fresh herbs. Rosemary and coffee has been a revelation to my palate and I'll be back for this alone. Which I will happily enjoy in this comfortable and cute dining area. Breakfast was made to order from fresh ingredients, piping hot and intentionally seasoned. As their bright and cheerful owner puts it, the main ingredient is love. And trust me, you can taste it. This is the first time in my two decades of eating tofu that I can actually shoutout how delicious it is. And the aromas coming of this photogenic waffle were mouthwatering. While Charlotte has become over run with corporate and copy cat restaurants, it is truly a thing of comfort to enjoy a delicious meal made by good people that care not only about what's on the plate, but who is eating from it. 6 stars

We didn't wait for too long for the table as people were just leaving. It took a bit for the waiter to come to our table and took even longer for him to get our food orders in, which we noticed he got the food orders in for the other tables with people who came in after us. This then lead them to getting their food before ours. I ordered the breakfast combo which came with 2 eggs, bacon, and waffle. I was a bit surprised that this place didn't have any chicken or turkey protein side options as I've seen is common with brunch places. I also got my eggs scrambled which, as you can see by the picture, came out as an omelette. When asking the worker about the confusion, he doubled down on it being scrambled eggs and even gossiped to his coworker about it as well. Upon the unfair wait and the egg situation, I will not be returning here again.
