You order at the counter and grab a seat so really not a lot to say on the service or ambiance side. The employees were friendly and helpful. The food was overall disappointing. Good: Biscuit was soft and had a good taste to it. The pancakes were also solid. Coke in a glass bottle! Scrambled egg was fine. Tough to mess that up. Bad: The homestyle potatoes had a decent flavor but they were cold and mushy. They didn't seem to have any ice. Worse: My breakfast meat was kielbasa and it was disgusting. It was cold and undercooked. It really tasted like I grabbed a raw hot dog from the fridge and just started gnoshing on it. I had two bites and that was all I could stomach. We went for Father's Day breakfast and I had high hopes. Really wanted to like this place. The menu looks great but this was not it. I went here on a Saturday mid afternoon. Came to the store, not the restaurant. I have 3 vivid complaints. The whole store smelled really stale and dirty. There were fly traps near the window and there were more than a dozen flies on the glue tape strips. Maybe what I was smelling was decomp. Lastly the food in the case looked stiff, stale, and mass market. I don't know why this place is popular. However there's plenty of bad reviews here. Maybe they used to be good. read more

I have been to Provisions in the past to buy local honey but I've never eaten here before. I decided to try it out for breakfast today with a friend. I wasn't going to post a review but the young man behind the counter was so incredibly rude that I will most likely not return. I've never eaten here before but heard they had pumpkin pancakes. When I asked about them, the young man asked how many I wanted. I asked how many came in an order and he raised his hands up , shook his head and made a face at me and asked again how many I wanted, like I was an idiot. I then ordered coffee and he said I could help myself. I asked where the coffee carafes were located and again I got that rude shrug and nasty attitude look. The carafes were to my left on the other side of an antique cash register and I didn't see them. I asked if the breakfast would be served at my table or if I should wait at the counter. He really treated me like an idiot. Again, I've never eaten here and didn't know how things worked. ALSO he was wearing a Provisions cap that still had the price tag on. I wonder if he was going to put it back at the end of his shift and let an unsuspecting customer buy his used cap. Really charming place in a very charming town! The menu isn't huge, but everything on it looked really good. Everything is fresh, everything is flavorful, and the portions are quite generous. My wife and I both had wraps and we probably could have split them instead of each ordering one. Our kids ordered the breakfast and they were all pleased with their pancakes and eggs. Even my picky mother really enjoyed it. If you're looking for a nice fun casual place with healthy food, reasonable portions and decent prices. This is your spot. read more

Best Ruben that our party of four has ever tasted. This is our second time going there ordering the Reuben and the Greek salad. Every aspect of both is perfection: the quality of the meat, the proportions, the flavor, even the way the bread is toasted and the type of bread. And the Greek salad is so fresh and again even the type of greens chosen and all the other ingredients and the homemade Greek dressing... why can't other restaurants be this good? The Ruben at Provisions is the best. What is the best? It is not greasy. So many places make a huge, greasy sandwich where the kraut overpowers the sandwich. I don't like 1000 Island so I get it without and add mustard. I would prefer brown mustard (My family is German) but yellow is ok. The flavor of each item on the sandwich comes through with each bite. The area where you order is full of take home mixes, honey, vinegars and grab and go meals. It's a great place to seach for specialty items. Stop by next time you are in Waxhaw. read more

This is a cool store in the heart of Waxhaw, NC. Inside there's all sorts of spices and seasoning along with chocolates, taffy and country style knickknacks. They also serve breakfast and a variety of coffees. It looks like two store fronts. One side there is the dining area and the other sides there store. Parking was easy right in front on the main road through the town. I ordered coffee and a breakfast sandwich which came out very quickly. Or maybe it was because I was taking in the store side and lost track of time. Either way this is a cool spot to check out in the morning. read more

We stopped in here because of the concept of the restaurant and general store. Super cute inside, mismatched tables etc. You order at the counter and they bring food out to you. I ordered the egg scramble with sausage which ended up being dinner sausage (not what i expected). Portion was not great and they don't allow subs if you can't have bread. Took a jaunt down to Waxhaw and stopped by Provisions while here visiting my sister. What a cute spot! Wonderful market with nice staples like local honeys, spice mixes, and homemade sauces. We did not eat, but the breakfasts were looking really good, too. And who doesn't love an Alpaca wearing a winter hat! Such fun stuff.....and the ladies there were very friendly and attentive. I'm a coffee aficionado (translated: snob), and my lavender latte was not much above average, but this little spot is worth visiting. 3 stars for the coffee, and 5 stars for all else. bk read more

The breakfast burrito was ok. I had it with all the meats. Did not know there was a $4 uplift. It was well made, just 85% potatoes. The meats were present, just not $4 worth. Asked for extra Salsa and yep $0.50 charge. My wife had the bacon eggs and pancakes. I ordered her eggs the way she likes them over medium. They came out just over easy. The coffee was self serve, however the coffee containers were frequently empty. While the store was interesting, I am just not a fan of counter service with restaurant prices. All in all, it was ok. I love the idea of a general store and restaurant, but this place completely misses the mark. Their provisions aren't particularly special or unique from what you can find in other places. The decor in the cafe is all over the place and not in a cute, eclectic way. The food isn't memorable and my meal today was just bad. The tomato basil soup was one of the worst and most bland I've ever had, and the side salad was sad. I thought I ordered a regular matcha but ended up with an espresso and matcha drink, which I ended up tossing. It's really too bad bc they have so much potential (as does waxhaw in general) and the staff is very nice (hence the two stars). read more

Over the past thirty years, historic downtown Waxhaw, located a short hop south of Charlotte, has evolved from a tired little farming town into a charming mini food mecca. Even though it has only one stoplight, there is a constant line of traffic flowing thru it from all directions. Provisions is located in an old brick furniture building off Main Street across from the railroad tracks. Parking is located out front and in several other nearby public lots. You enter through a screen door into an authentic old country grocery store with original oak floors and beadboard ceilings, then place your order at the checkout counter to the right and find a table in the country electric dining to left. Chairs and tables offer differing levels of comfort, so choose carefully (you'll see what I mean.) I went with the "the Best Corned Beef Reuben"($11), which was loaded with lean, thin-sliced beef, sauerkraut and two slices of swiss cheese on buttery toasted marble rye. To make it lo-cal, I subbed out the Thousand Island dressing with spicey mustard. It was pretty doggone good but the house-made broccoli and cheese soup that accompanied it was even better. Thankfully, I made it back to my car with only minor heart palpitations. My wife ordered the BLT ($6) with a bowl of seafood gumbo. The BLT was perfectly prepared and the gumbo was made in house and had a slight bite to it. Fountain drinks are not offered but a variety of canned and bottled beverages are available in a glassed display case near the counter. I'd prefer a fountain but free tap water is available in glass jugs. No ice is available however. Considering how delicious the food is and the friendly service, this was only a minor inconvenience. When you finish your meal, grab a cone of ice cream and spend some time meandering thru the store aisles where all locally produced "provisions" are displayed for purchase. Overall, this place is a Gotta Try in my book. Lord willing, we'll be back! read more

I'm a small-town boy so this place fits me like a glove. The wood floors and doors, with their telltale wear marks and years of caked paint, creak with the sounds of serving the area folks over the years. It is a damned shame we tear these old buildings down for something shiny, new, and sterile. But not here. We love to get there early to both beat the crowd as well as the heat, so we can sit outside at one of the few tables along the sidewalk. Watching people pass by while sipping our morning coffee is a ritual that satisfies deep in the soul. The ham, egg, and cheese bagel push it over the top--so very good. There is plenty of interesting items inside, too. Look around and see what else you might need--I love it. Provisions in Waxhaw clangs all the bells on my "Give 'em a whirl" meter. I was recommended this great little shop with a restaurant by a local storeowner when I asked for their best lunch picks. She said her sister worked here and to give them a try. So very glad I did! You order your food at the front of the store and take a laminated seed packet to your table to identify your order. They'll bring that out to you when ready. I suggest you browse the store before sitting down to grab some bougie gourmet food items. I saw marinara sauce, flours, jams, jellies, etc. The dining room is a happy place, with murals, brightly colored tables, and fresh flowers. I chose a spot by the big picture window to people-watch as I ate. The food is delicious, too. I ordered a bowl of tomato basil soup and a scoop of chicken salad. The tomato soup was great! It was very fresh tasting, with a punch of basil. Perfectly seasoned, I needed no salt and pepper. The chicken salad is also good, but you should know that it has nuts AND grapes in it, which are polarizing ingredients. It was good, but I prefer a more savory chicken salad over a sweet one. I probably wouldn't get that again. No matter, there are so many more offerings here, I can't wait to go back and try something new. read more

The credit card transaction logged 11:59am when we place our food order today. We got our order eventually at 12:48pm. 47 min of waiting!!! That's how long the wait on a Sunday lunch! Oh and wait was in addition to waiting to be seated which was about 10 min. We were told that they will not take food order until they have a table for you to sitdown. The location is in quaint downtown Waxshaw. I was hoping this restaurant matched the pretty location they are in. I tried the lavender vanilla latte listed as one of their specialty, pricey for a grande size equivalent when compared to other coffee shops. That coffee was awful! The lavender essence is overpowering creating this weird bitter taste and after taste. I understand oil essence was used. The coffee barista was very nice when I asked my coffee to be remade. Although, the women taking order at the counter was not the friendliest, she was a little snappy. I tried their French toast. Disappointing. Nothing special about it. We also ordered bagel sandwich with egg ham and cheese. Blah. No extra effort put into it. The bagel was not even toasted for color or flavor. With all that for 47 min of waiting. Disappointed we are as timers here. The lady who kept the dining room clean and sanitized was very pleasant. We catted briefly, she was friendly. We shared our feedback and she understand our frustration and apologized. We told her we did not expect anything as we know that there is nothing that she can do immediately except share our feedback. There is something wrong how this business run their kitchen and staffing on busy time as evident. There is street parking right outside and across the building. Keep in mind that this is right in the middle of the downtown so finding parking on busy time might be difficult. Overall for me, it was not worth the wait, not worth the time or spend. read more

This review pertains to the restaurant portion of Provisions and has nothing to do with the retail part of their operation. I noticed that the reviews are primarily on the retail section and the old time cuteness of the store. Not the eating side. BTW, Yelp!: Vihaan K's five-star review of one sentence is her only Yelp! review, so most likely is close to the owners or an employee. Yelp! usually catches those and puts them in the back room. We were very disappointed, but now we know why we never hear anyone suggesting Provisions for breakfast of lunch. Based on our recent and first ever breakfast experience: it is cheap, limited menu and do-it-yourself. The eating area was fairly packed, so we were further surprised at how popular it was. WRONG! It was because Stacks was closed for their summer vacation. We asked the people around us and when we were leaving. Cutie-pie interior with a mish-mash of old furniture, tables and chairs not matching and of all colors. You order from the cashier on the retail side. There are menus there and the offerings are sparse to say the least. No omelets, just one plate "hungry man" with choice of meat, two eggs, choice of way over-spiced home fried potatoes or grits, toast or biscuit and am not sure if I paid separately for coffee or if it was included. You put the marker on your table and sit down for the meals to be served. There is one person who brings out the meals, and a couple of times a woman aproned-up as the cook comes out to serve. In addition to those two people, the cashier completes the count on the sparse number of employees. We sat for a bit and I finally got up to see about the coffee we ordered. Cashier said a fresh batch is being make. I asked where? Well, it was behind her and then she indicated that I could pour my own, when it was ready, and use mugs that they provided. I did so later from two carafes, one medium, one dark coffee. The meals came only to be greeted with disappointment. Seemingly very low budget as organization this is, the portions were minimal, but met the descriptions on the menu. I had the "hungry man" and there is little doubt in my mind that that hungry man would leave hungry. Got the two over medium eggs (good and nicely cooked), the sausage consisted of one slim slab from the plastic packaging (certainly not thick or a decent amount), the aforementioned awful little potato chunks skillet fried with an over-dose of seasonings (yes, awful and so loaded with salt that I bought a soda at another location when we left) and one slice of toast (yes, one slice). Wife had a BLT which was fine, just on two very small pieces of bread. The potato salad was, we both agreed, very good. Opposite of the over the top seasoned fried potatoes, the potato salad allowed us to taste the potato and was tasty and fresh. I looked for condiments. Not on the table. I saw someone go to a side piece of furniture and THERE were hot sauces, ketchup, mustard and the cheapest no-name packs of jelly: apple and mixed fruit. To go on my one piece of toast. Part market. Part cafe/diner. Provisions is a good place to grab lunch on Main Street in Downtown Waxhaw. I ordered a a club sandwich with a side of potato salad for my lunch. Turkey, ham, bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomato. Not at all a bad sandwich. Though not what I would call a traditional club. It was not especially stacked and there was no middle piece of bread. Not the biggest sandwich in the world but tasty. I liked it better than the potato salad. That's not to say the potato salad was bad. It was a bit heavy on the black pepper though. It had a kick to it. Overall, a good experience here. Friendly staff and a good lunch. We were even told that we could move the tables to accomodate our large party (11+ family members). Stopped in for breakfast today as we were passing through Waxhaw. Don't waste your time, the food is just nasty. I ordered 2 pancakes, fried potatoes and a side of ham. My wife had 2 eggs, bacon, and 2 pancakes. The side of ham is $3. For that you get 3 small pieces of lunch meat ham. I mean it's thinner than the bacon! The fried potatoes were inedible and cold. No seasoning whatsoever. The pancakes tasted ok, but came out cold. The plate they were on was very cold. And nobody came by to see how anything was...I guess they already know the answer. read more

I have been to Provisions Waxhaw twice. I went there on Sunday after my workout session to grab breakfast for myself and my husband. I ordered him the veg head, oatmeal, and a triple stack of pancakes. The pancakes as my son said, were fluffy, light, and delicious. They were the perfect color. The oatmeal was good too. The veg head in the other hand, was not good. The potatoes were undercooked and under seasoned. The avocado on the toast was small and brown (very unappetizing and not attractive). I came back inside and they didn't even bother to look at the receipt or order, they just told me I was mistaken and only ordered 2 which didn't make sense based on the total. My wife and I have been here several times for lunch and it has always been delicious. The mushroom rueben is absolutely AMAZING! I decided to take my mom here for breakfast and it could not have been better. Hands down my new favorite breakfast spot in Waxhaw (and we have plenty of options). I had the grit bowl and my mom had the French toast and both were great. Service is always super friendly, but I would say be patient as it usually the isn't the quickest place which I'm fine with when the food taste as good as it does. I ordered the grits bowl. I read the ingredients and ordered with no potatoes, no cheese, only requested bacon. They don't do poached eggs and I ended up ordering sunny side up. I was aware of garlic in the grits, but they were whole cloves of garlic in them and with the chunks of garlic and very greasy eggs and the soggy bacon pieces the tastes off all together was not pleasant. The biscuit I ordered was top with a large amount of cracked pepper. I asked to exchange it with one with no pepper. I was told they make all their biscuits with black pepper. Since they said there are no substitutions or returns it wasn't taken off the bill. They did offer me toast, I declined. The coffee was great. Not planning on going back. read more

This is a cool lil spot in downtown Waxhaw w/ in and outdoor seating. Breakfast and lunch are served all day along with a few specials. My friend and I sat outside on a nice day and were able to ppl watch. The food came out a little slow and we were unsure if we had to go back in and get it or would it be brought out. Food was okay. I had the Korean tacos which were chicken (tofu I think was another option) which was odd that there was no beef choice. Flavors were good (ask for light cilantro next time). However the food came out cold. Like ice cold. I think it had been sitting for a while and not under a heat lamp.
