My wife and I recently moved to the area and Harper's has quickly become one of our favorites. We've gone for brunch and dinner, and both were really great. All the ingredients are very fresh, and the dishes are well thought out. I was really impressed with a pasta sausage dish I had as a main, and the brussel sprouts appetizer. 2nd time we've been to Harper's. i will start off by saying $1 oysters on Monday! That gives them the 4th star in my opinion. But let's proceed to the FSA (Food, Service, Atmosphere) Food: Did I mention $1 oysters on Monday? What a surprise, and very fresh too. Next time we will get a dozen! The menu has a nice mix of meat, seafood, pasta dishes. My wife had arctic char, and I had duck breast. Nice presentation, very tender & juicy duck, with mashed potatoes, spinach, and figs. Good portion of duck I thought. For dessert I had vanilla panna cotta. They also have a pretty good beer list as well. I have a sneaking suspicion that they may make good mixed drinks here too. Service: I thought the service was very good. Friendly staff, lots of refills on the water. They did make a mistake on the bill, but they apologized and fixed it quickly without issue. Atmosphere: I do think there is room for improvement here. It is dark, I think they are going for a downtownish late19th century feel?? According to the servers, the music is played at the manager's discretion and clearly only intended to please him. If creative cocktails turn you on, step inside and get the party started. I particularly fell in love with The Montgomery -- Hendricks Gin, St. Germain Elderower, Fresh Cucumber Juice, Lime, Champenoise Float -- as well as The Hat Dance -- Tequila, Cointreau, Fresh Squeezed Grapefruit, Cayenne-Salt. Dinner here is farm to table, and last week the hubs and I dined in for their Ommegang Beer Dinner, which was 4 courses and 4 beer pairings. We dined on seafood ceviche, pork belly, beer braised lamb neck, and chocolate cherry cake. At $55/person it was a great deal, and a great assortment of dishes for the beers on hand. A coworker of mine recomened Harpers to me so I decided to check it out for dinner on a Monday night. I could not have been happier coming here! The food was out of this world, full of flavor and cooked to perfection! We ordered the SweetBread appetizer (I love trying different/out of the ordinary foods) and Wow!! So much flavor, the meat was soft and melts in your mouth and the sauce was paired perfectly together. I ordered the Crispy Hudson Valley Duck Leg with white beans and pancetta which was outstanding! The skin of the duck was crisped perfectly and it all just melts in your mouth, duck was very flavorful and so was the pancetta..Yum! My dad ordered the Pork and Octopus dish which had an incredible flavor that I have never tasted before and it was so good. Then I thought I was full until I saw the dessert menu which everything on it sounded amazing. I chose the Salted Caramel dessert which is not too sweet and not too salty, it is just right and the salt made it perfect. It was almost like a pudding texture. I love the atmosphere here, lights are dimmed, a little jazz music, friendly wait staff, and candles all around. The wait staff is wonderful and very professional. The Owner, Justin is very caring of his customers and super friendly! He came to our table to see how we liked everything and he had a smile on his face throughout the whole night. Harper's does an amazing job in every category. They are super friendly, and the cozy atmosphere to match. The food and drinks are to perfection. With a seasonal menu (both food and cocktails), you'll never have a dull moment. The food and drinks are to par with many restaurants in the city, if not better. The bartender knows his stuff, curating a delicious variety of drinks, and being open to making something off menu. The food is all around delicious. My go to is the duck breast, while my wife enjoys their roasted chicken. The bread pudding is a must try as well. I could go on and on, the place is worth it! read more

I had high hopes for this place but it was kind of a disappointment. The menu sounds fantastic but the execution was just so so. Our waiter was very nice but each and every course we got, something was wrong. Either they sent food with an ingredient that couldn't be eaten or they sent the wrong food all together. I'd be very careful if you have an allergy. They were not careful at all about that. Wines were nice though. The other thing is that they don't have a vestibule to buffer the cold air from outside. Stopped by here on the way back to the City from a New Paltz/Mohonk day trip. Excellent choice for a very cool farm to table spot in Dobbs Ferry. We sat at the bar and shot the shit with Clark the bar tender during our meal, who knows more than a thing or two about making a great drink. Started wth Mack n Jack bourbon cocktail - very smooth. Then we ordered apps - chedder and apple salad and the brussle sprout leaves with bacon and a poached egg - both of which were quite good. For an entre I ordered the tagliotelle with hen of the woods mushrooms, which was good, fresh and on the lighter side (not creamy), but probz better if ordered it at the appetizer size portion. My wife had the chicken complete with crispy skin, and thick and juicy meat. Ultimately, we had a very positive experience and recommend the place for any occassion. read more

I love this place! I love relatively nearby so one night I finally tried it with a friend. I got an amazing tagliatelle bolognese and my friend got their burger. Both were good sized portions. I came another time with my mom and I got the steak I think, which was also perfect. I've tried their duck also, and I don't always like duck, but theirs was cooked perfectly and I really liked the sauce. My two favorite dishes I've had here by far are the braised short ribs and this shrimp special with beans and a tomato sauce they had once. I think the short ribs aren't on the menu anymore, which makes me really sad - they really should ring t back. I love the atmosphere and decor of this place. The dark wood, the different cute little plates, and the funny little story they have on the side of their menu. Their bathroom is really cool too. The one small complaint I have is that I didn't really like their balsamic vinegar that came on the panna cotta. I loved the panna cotta but kinda ate around the balsamic part and had my boyfriend eat it. read more

We were looking for a new place to eat last night and were willing to drive a half an hour to a different county to find somewhere with so many admirers on Yelp. We also appreciated the ability to get a 7:30 pm reservation on a Saturday for our party of four. The ambiance was quite nice for an establishment described as a "bar and restaurant" and the emphasis is clearly on the restaurant part of the name. The noise level was a bit high, but not unbearable -- it was Saturday night after all and the place was full. The menu choices are eclectic and all sounded intriguing. We chose to take a health-conscious approach to our starters and ordered two vegetable sides instead of appetizers. We shared the large portions of roasted cauliflower and the turnips and both were excellent. Both men had the lamp shank entree. It was nicely presented and very tender. My wife had sea bass, which she said was delicious. Her friend had the special ravioli stuffed with chicken, which we all tasted and agreed was very good. We skipped the desserts. I guess there was nothing that looked all that irresistible on the list. Harper's is well worth the trip and worth recommending. read more

I want to start by saying that this is a beautiful restaurant. The cocktails are delicious and I love the farm to table concept; the food is creative and fresh. That being by said, the service is dreadful. If I were to give a review on food and drink alone, I would give five stars. During my meal, I had to constantly ask for things I had previously requested and a waitress that kept up with our table came around asking questions like, "do you want anything else?" And "is that it?" Instead of "Would you like another glass of wine?" Or "Can I get you anything else before you start your meal?" For the style of restaurant and price of the meal, the service should be at a higher level. I hit the NYSC a few miles away and then was hankering for some seafood. Thank goodness for modern technology--some website or simulated person, told me to hit up Harper's. Folks were warm and inviting. Sat down and decided on the fried oysters--WOW. They were moist, juicy, cooked perfectly, and did I say delicious. So delicious that after eating the three on my plate, looked down and wondered where the rest were? Yeah, the portions are small, but quality is better than quantity, especially when it comes to seafood. The wait staff were attentive and professional. My only gripe was it feel like my server was rushing me out, and since the place had plenty of tables and seats, wasn't sure why the rush. Anyway, I'm coming back to try those chocolate chip bread pudding pancakes they serve at brunch. Whose up for splitting an order??? Lol. Summary--quality food, decent prices but not great portions, place is a bit dark and depending on your arrival time, or dining longevity, you and your remaining food scrapes maybe ushered out... Harper's rocks! With its Brooklyn-esque decor and eclectic palette, this hip restaurant is sure to please. We started with the cheddar cheese and apple salad and had the burgers for dinner. The salad was one of the best I've ever had, and the burger was fit for a king (or queen)! I wouldn't hesitate to come back or to recommend. The only "soft spot" was the roasted root vegetables, which were overly salty, due to the addition of speck, a type of Italian ham. Overall, a great experience. I'd say this is an excellent local restaurant but you can leave off "local" - it's an excellent restaurant regardless of how far one travels for it. With a relaxed vibe, exceptional bartenders making amazing cocktails and a kitchen putting out (consistently) high caliber food one could almost forget that you're just down the road from home and didn't travel all the way into the City of parts of Brooklyn for the experience. The food here is ok to good, the atmosphere is very dark and musty. i have eaten here so many times and i always leave with some sort of aggravation. The service is always bad and there never seems to be a manager. My most recent experience was the worst, lets just say you would get better service at Taco Bell, and the food might even be better. After calling and being told a table was available outside, i walked in 5 minutes later and was told the patio was full and they wont hold a table and take no reservations. A woman walked in behind me with a party of the same size and they were seated outside. I will never go to this dark dingy musty restaurant again, next time taco bell. :) read more

This is not our favorite restaurant. We tried it twice. And probably will not go again. The white wine was sour, and another type of wine was ordered. Possibly our taste in good food does not include over salting. Our friend who practically lives out of a salt shaker turned back calamari. When I tasted it was so salty that it could kill marine life. My husband had chopped liver or whatever it was on toast. My beet salad was very tasty. The duck was very tasty. But still too much salt is used. The pork chop was very good. Desserts were lovely. Too much unhealthy food is used. Fois Gras used to steam onions, duck fat in potatoes. I think you can make interesting food using more healthful ingredients. read more

I hate to write this review since I've been a customer here and enjoyed it, but my boyfriend and I were treated so rudely last night by the bartender that I felt I had to update my review. They have a posted happy hour at the bar - from 5:00-6:30 it's half off all draft beers and wine by the glass- great! I got there before my boyfriend, I was the first person at the bar (maybe around 5:45 on a Friday night) and relaxed with a nice glass of wine and good conversation with the bartender. It was all good. My boyfriend eventually joined me and we were having a good time, and the bar filled up. Right around 6:30 he asked if I wanted another glass of wine to "get one in before happy hour was over." Why yes I do! Great, thanks! My boyfriend and I were having a nice conversation so we hung out and he ordered another beer about 15 mins later. When we go to close out the bill, three of our drinks weren't rung up at the happy hour cost. We politely told the bartender, who stared at the bill, and gave it back to us very rudely and said "there!" However, the new bill only fixed one of the drinks at the happy hour price, leaving my glass of wine that "i got in" before happy hour at the full price. We didn't want to be pain in the butts, but we told him again that that glass of wine should have been half off and he pretty much yelled at us and said "what? do you want me to comp your wine or beer? what are we talking about here?" And acted like we were being cheap! We didn't want him to "comp" anything, we just wanted the advertised price. I don't mind paying full prices for good beer and wine- but why have a happy hour and ask if we want it at happy hour price, then charge full price? And why raise your voice to try to make us look cheap? We felt embarrassed for no reason. Really rude- you lost two customers. read more

This has become my favorite restaurant in Westchester lately. The fried duck leg with cheddar grits is outstanding. (I actually asked for the sauce that they serve with their roast chicken dish on the side, which proved to go very well) The burger is always great. The butter served with the bread is something special. The pastas are outrageous. The other night they had a fried chicken appetizer with a roquefort sauce which was life changing.
