We've lived in the area for 16 years, passed by this it thousands of time and we finally got to try this place. Our neighbor highly recommended this restaurant and we went together. It's a tiny restaurant with only a few tables and there's a bar on the other side. You need to get there early otherwise you'll have to wait a while. It is a family restaurant and it feels like one. The food is good and the burger is excellent. The service is great as well. This place is surely a gem and if you've been there you know it. That's why the parking lot is full and there's a line unless you go super early. There are many good reasons for that. read more

The venue is a pub so what kind of ambiance are you looking for. The service was good and the waitress didn't bother us too much. As for the food, I had the Reuben which was ok but if you're going to have smaller portions serve them on smaller plates. This is far from a family establishment as they claim- it's a module style old crap bar. We sat down, no one even told our sever we were there. Granted we had two small children and waited and waited. Okay fine, guy comes over takes our basic order (tacos, fries salad and butter pasta) and it takes an hour for the food to come out. We are the ONLY ones eating in the restaurant and 2 people at the bar, 1 being the hostess. In addition, he charged us for extra beers since we had to ask multiple times for the beer, but yet he never brought it out. He claimed he was frazzled? Um not sure how with a total of 4 humans inside this place. Food was awful. My steak was full of fat and sour strawberries. Kids pasta was hard and undercooked. My husbands tacos barely had fish in them, and this is what we waited an hour for. I had to go to the bar to get my receipt fixed twice (aside from the 2 trips I did prior to ask for water to drink, that's another story). Hostess proceeded to give me an attitude and when I clapped back "she goes we don't make the food they don in the back". Oh thanks lady. Nice way to run your restaurant while you stuffed your face at the bar during my hour wait. Place is a dump, with crap food. Go elsewhere. read more

Montville has a 'where everyone knows your name' kind of bar. The service is sweet, friendly and fun, the energy is familiar and cozy and the food is even better! I had this chocolate mousse that made me float right up to the ceiling. If I still lived in Montville it would definitely be my local! Harrigans is more of a dive bar How can you justify NYC prices for a standard drink with everyone at the bar yelling an laughing. This was dinner at 4pm but wait happy hour only applies for the bar , not for a table 15 steps from the bar. Stopped in here on my day off with my son to grab some burgers for lunch (don't seem to do this enough with him) since they advertise the best burgers in Montville since 1982. We were seated immediately and I ordered a Black and Tan. Looked over the menu quickly and we ordered Buffalo wings, well done, and two burgers-mine with bacon and fried onions and his with blue cheese. It seemed as though we got through the door right before the lunch rush because the place filled up quickly. Our drinks came quickly, as did the wings. Black and Tan was a little too tan, but it hit the spot. The wings were tasty and came out well done like we asked. A little too much sauce for my liking, but they tasted great. A few minutes after we had finished the wings the burgers came. My son liked his a lot-good amount of blue cheese for him. Mine was just ok. Too many onions, the bacon was a bowl of crispy bacon bits (like they would put on a salad), and the burger was a little over done. The onions were delicious, but they kind of overwhelmed the taste of the actual burger. It wasn't bad, but I found it to be average. I came here last week for my friend's birthday dinner, and we all had a great time. Our waitress was funny and very attentive. She served our martinis with a side glass and strainer of whatever was leftover from each drink, which was a nice touch! We got the nachos and wings which were both great, and I got the scallop and shrimp salad which was excellent too. We brought 3 babies and they were very accommodating with seating. I decided to visit Harrigan's with my mom during her most recent visit because it seems to have such good reviews. On arrival you realize that the building is surrounded by a junkyard AKA rusty ambiance. Should have been a red flag...but we pushed onward because- Reviews! The building is described as "cozy" and that is the same descriptor we could use when explaining Fred Sanfords interior decor choices, so I get it. Also, "Family oriented" again, correct wording because many a busy family has sticky tables, dirty dishes, and an uncle who frequents the bar. Now, the real reason for my review... The menu items labeled as "chicken sandwiches". Mom ordered the Garden BBQ chicken sandwich and I ordered the Spicy Cajun Chicken. They arrived fast and that is probably because both orders of chicken looked like they had been sliced thin and then smashed with Gallaghers sledgeomatic making it possible to cook them in 2mins flat. At about $11 each it was an expensive slice of lunch meat. Lucky for us the bread was so hard it sheltered our mouths from the crispy meat slice hiding within. The steak fries were standard fare and honestly the only thing that saved us from total- sassy- hangry- meltdown. When the waitress came around we let her know we were not happy with the sandwiches, which was clear because they were still on our plates. She replied with, " would you like a box"? Maybe getting some money back or a substitution would have been nice but this way we could could take them home and threaten our significant others or possibly punish the dog. I'm not totally writing this place off because what it clearly does best is run a busy little community bar. If I had enjoyed a pint or two before my order I probably would have cared less about my meal. Don't come hungry come thirsty!! read more

Cute little pub. Entrees were surprisingly great. I loved the split pea soup and my balsamic chicken was good but they went a little overboard on smothering the chicken with sauce. My husband got a 16oz steak that he really enjoyed. They were very busy for a Friday night dinner crowd yet we had attentive service and our food came out quickly. An obscure place to find. Avoiding the Barbecue Ribs is the best advice I could give. They are pressure-cooked to the point of mush then laid on a plate with a heavy overabundant of thick highly acidic sauce smothered in that made me cough. The worst part (if that's not bad enough) is that there are pieces of cartilage that are not edible. I had to take them out of my mouth one piece at a time like I was eating fish with bones in it. The staff is kind and relaxed, much needed when you are trying to get away from the busyness of places. I ordered the eggplant parm with pasta. The serving was HUGE. Unfortunately, they did not hit the mark flavor wise, I was pretty disappointed. The wife and I took in Happy Hour here on a Friday night and it was a hopping place.. I think every single watering hole in my neck of the woods is packed between 4 and 6pm every Friday for Happy Hour... We arrived just a tad before 6pm and a gentlemen at the bar offered his seat to me so my wife and I could sit together.. Thank you whoever you were!! So, like I said, we got there about 5 mins to six.. Happy hour ends at 6.. So we ordered drinks about 5 minutes after Happy Hour ended, but it was very obvious we were sitting at the bar before 6pm (more on that below...) My wife ordered a Chardonnay and I a Black and Tan. When I got my draft I had to wait a few to let the foam settle on the top, which then makes the glass not full :-(. This is an Irish Pub and they should know to pour a Guinness Draft to perfection - and use a Guinness Pint Glass!! So, that turned me off and my beer wasn't as cold as I like it either. Fast forward a bit, I ordered another Black and Tan, and this time, different bartender, much better pour - and to me it's the little things that you expect to receive at certain places. I absolutely HATE ordering a Guinness and get it with 1/3 to 1/4 full of foam still settling on the top of the glass, especially in an Irish Pub... So, we took a look at the menu and dang, the food prices were pretty high. I had to look outside and reassure myself I wasn't transported to 42nd and 6th, which are the prices you'd expect to pay in the city - not in Montville, NJ. But, I will say, the restaurant section was pretty full, so I can assume the food is pretty good, and better be for the prices!! So, we finished our drinks and for two Black and Tans, and one glass of wine, $24.00.. Wow. That's insane and let me refer back to the time we got here. Just before 6pm when Happy Hour ends. Wouldn't it be a nice gesture to charge our first round as Happy Hour? Hmmm.. it's the little things like that and the pour that separate the really good places to the just ok places. I've been eating here for 40 years and never was disappointed, until now. I ordered their famous steak sandwich and it was small and overcooked, my wife ordered wine it was past its prime. The onion soup which is what we mostly would come for was not up to par, it was very dark in color and not a pleasing taste at all. Great local restaurant and bar. Delicious food and great drinks. Went on Father's Day and had such a good time we went back the next day to celebrate my son's birthday. Make sure you get the chicken wings. They are big and moist. Try both the buffalo and Thai versions. Burgers are great and their steak sandwich is mouthwatering delicious. Julia our server on the second visit was wonderful. She made some great suggestions for our main courses. Order a pint of Guinness, their bartender does a perfect pour. read more

Holiday weekend and we needed dinner while traveling. Read Yelp reviews and decided to stop and try the burgers. Thanks Yelpees!!! The burgers were good. I love toasted buns too. My Cosmo was great - I had two! Sweet potato fries were over-cooked, sent back, and came back over-cooked again. Both orders tasted and smelled burnt. How can you serve burnt food twice and not notice or fix it? The second order came out fast but were not cooked on the inside. Waitress was nice but used a "fakey nice" voice. She was talking to friends when we came in and seated us once she finished talking, and then went back to talking to her friends. Checked on us a couple times but it wasn't busy at all for a Friday night at 10pm, so that might not be the norm. What pissed us off was that she offered us free dessert to make up for the fries, which we declined, and then she left the $2 up-charge for sweet potato fries on the bill. I didn't even eat them and you left the charge on??? We took it off the tip (and then some) and we usually tip at least 20%. Won't stop here again. read more

Holy crap! We've been in Boonton for 7 years and just found this place. Started with the Nachos. Not mexican cuisine, but delicious bar-nachos. Exactly what we were hoping for, PLUS fresh jalepeno slices on the side. Waitress recommended the Thai Wings and she was spot on. Delicious, crispy, moderately spicy. VERY, very good. Finally we all had burgers. And it was a real treat to get three burgers that were cooked to a perfect medium rare. Meat was also seasoned and salted, so the burgers were not only cooked perfectly, they were DELICIOUS. A+. Probably nets out to 4.5 stars for the food, just because the Onion Rings had a burnt oil taste to them, so I wouldn't order them again. But aside from the disappointing rings, everything we tried was great and our server Annette was kind, attentive and spot on with her recommendations. This is our new go-to burger spot. read more

Haven't been here for probably 15 years. You have to appreciate the local flavor of the ambiance and collection of locals. I really wanted to give it a better review, really should give it 2.5 but 2 would be unfair. They are very nice people and definitely make you feel welcome but unfortunately the food is just short of really good. My wife got here salad, looked up and said "I don't ever recall Blue Cheese dressing being watered down". I couldn't recall ever experiencing that either, but one taste and sure-nuff, watered down. Her chicken dish looked outstanding, fell just short of tasty. Probably too much flour in the sauce? I don't know. The steamed vegetables were very nice and plentiful. All my Steak sandwich needed was real cheese, why use processed cheese?? I don't eat processed food, being melted only by the heat of the meat made it look like tasted, plastic. Again, all just short of good. I hope this doesn't seem harsh, they do allot of things right and the local relationships seem to be a big aspect of bringing everyone back. We do not recommend. My daughter and I stopped in because we had a long day and needed to get out of traffic and have dinner. We saw the sign on 287 and decided to try them. We got there at 5. I was a little undecided about the outside appearance but we were starving and the parking lot was pretty full. The potato skins were good but when my daughter unfolded her paper napkin the inside of it was filthy- it had been used! I told the waitress and she was appalled, apologetic but nothing happened other than that. My meatball sub was average - meatballs probably out of a bag. My daughter's mashed potatoes seemed from a box and her salmon over cooked. Waitress nice but forgot tarter sauce for salmon.
