Really good neighborhood bar! Emphasis on neighborhood, as this place has a slew of regulars that pack the joint. I came for lunch during the week, and everyone who was there knew everybody else. Sat at the bar and service was rock solid. Otherwise visual what an Irish bar looks like, and this was it. Only difference is that their tap list is much better. Got the Horseman burger. Beef was very fresh and cooked to a perfect rare. Nothing fancy, just really well made. Toppings were very good, as was the bit of chili they put on the side. I'm more of a Texas chili guy and I like some heat, however this was solid. All in all it was the most pleasant and satisfying lunch in recent memory. I really, really shouldn't have been surprised at how busy the main streets of Sleepy Hollow get during late October Coming back home from a weekend in the Catskills, we took a detour into Sleepy Hollow to see some sights and grab a meal. We walked down Beekman Ave with an eye towards grabbing a table at Bridge View Tavern, quickly turning around after hearing a table for two would be an hour long wait. J.P. Doyle's had just as long a line on the trek towards the water but thankfully cleared up during the walk back. We got a table without a problem at this laid back, Irish style pub. The menu sticks to the basics: salads, sandwiches, burgers, and a few entrees (shepherds pie, fish and chips, penne Alla vodka). My girlfriend went with a veggie burger while I had the French dip. Along with our 3 week old daughter, he ordered a burger and I ordered the Mac and Cheese. Both delicious options with zero disappointment. Staff was so friendly and attentive. Popped in here mid afternoon for a late lunch / snack and it was pretty busy! We sat at a high top at the bar and my cousin and I shared the BEST potato skins ever (not your typical skins, sliced thinly in triangles and covered in cheese - I am still dreaming about these) and some steamed edamame. They list themselves as Halloween central but there's not much special about it. Some standard Halloween decor and lights. Only weird thing is they don't have a cocktail menu. They have a liquor menu but no mixed drinks. Had to ask the waitress if they had any cocktails or specialty drinks and she recommended the pumpkin spice martini. My friends and I had to wait for 3 hours before we were seated, and when we were seated we realized that there were tables available for a party of 6. We would have been more understanding of the wait if there was a shortage of staff or there truly being a lack of space. read more

The service from the manager (I am assuming the owner due to authentic accent, older lady) was amazing. She kept checking in although she was not our waiter. Jokes with my son, brought him paper to color and even gave a free ice cream scoop. The food on the other hand missed the mark. On the steak sandwich was the cheap fake I think Kraft plastic cheese that when cooked burns instead of melts (as seen in photos). The chicken sandwich just had a weird awful taste and was really wet inside but not juicy wet if that makes sense and had to be sent back. The potato skins were good but they are sliced more like potato chips and skins which was unique but good to know before ordering. The service saved the grade but sadly won't be returning. read more

For a restaurant that looks like it has had generally good reviews, I can say that I am disappointed by this place because of the way my party and I we're treated here. I can't tell if it's due to the fact that we are of asian and south asian descent, but it almost felt like they did not want us here and gave us nasty looks throughout our time at this establishment. My party of 6 got in yesterday at 10-29-2022 around 4:45PM and wanted to stop by for a quick beer originally. We were told by the front hostess that we can go order drinks by the inside bar and carry them outside. When we went to the inside bar, it almost felt like we were being stalked by this hostess because she was worried that we were going to grab a table. She told the bartender at the bar inside that we are only getting drinks. Yeah....don't worry, we won't steal a table... Inside bartender was a nice man and appreciate his hospitality so my hats off to you. Once we got our beers, we went to the backyard patio area. There must have been at least 5 tables that were open. We were of the impression originally that only inside dining tables were the ones we can't sit at so we accidentally sat at a table outside. The hostess came running downstairs again and told us "these are reserved for customers please go in that bar area!" We kindly moved to the outdoor bar area that you see in my picture below and sat at a empty table to be told again "bar meaning that actual bar." Her tone sounded annoyed and saying the word please does not account for your nasty tone. We decided eventually to just have dinner at this establishment and put our name on the waiting list. It was a forty minute wait which is perfectly fine. While at the outside bar, I noticed that the same 5 tables that were empty outside continued to be empty. I thought to myself, they must have probably been taken by Casper the ghost and his friends.....That's why they aren't disbursing them to customers! Or maybe it's because they just don't want to make money on Halloween weekend...Business must be excellent for them then! I noticed during our wait for a indoor table that the waitress outside had spoken to the hostess. She also was not very pleasant either. She was quite pleasant to everyone else, but not with our group of 6 asians and south asians. She had this look on her where she looked annoyed with us, but we couldn't figure out why. She was a lot more attentive of other patrons and not very attentive with us. She was also kinder with other patrons in comparison to us. It almost felt like there was some sort of hate towards us. Eventually we were able to get a table inside. Our inside waitress was a lot nicer and we appreciated her way more than the outside bartender and front hostess. The food was not bad since we got mostly appetizers because we just had a bad feeling about the place and didn't want to stay here any longer due to the treatment from the previous 2 staff. We had the "Nicky's Mac'n Cheese", "Spinach and Artichoke Dip", "Wisconsin Style Cheese Curds" and "Homemade Potato Skins." The Spinach and Artichoke dip was the highlight of the appetizers and highly recommend it if you are of caucasian descent and thinking about coming here. Wait...I completely forgot that I am half of caucasian decent and got treated poorly so I retract that comment. Overall the waitress inside was lovely. I think she saved the day somewhat for this place and if I could give this establishment 0 stars I wish I can on YELP. The front hostess and the outside bartender from yesterday is the reason this establishment is getting 1 star. Don't come here because it looks like if you aren't caucasian you will be treated poorly. Look at the last 10 reviews. All of them have been written by people of caucasian descent. I thought I give this place a review from a none caucasian perspective and shed light on the terrible treatment my party and myself got here. Decor was a little dated & basic staff were warm & Friendly. Drinks were solid only had a Cider with a Guinness topper but the food was excellent. Loved the French onion super hot tasty & cheeses was perfectly melted. Was not that hungry following the soup So went with a simple Fish & chips once I confirmed the Fish was fresh. Not only was it fresh but it was perfectly cooked in a light batter that was perfectly cooked. My wife had the French dipped steak Sandwich that was also very tasty simple food perfect for a sweaty dude & his bride dressed casually. The food was super hot just how we Like it. You can't accuse this restaurant of not being in the Halloween spirit. The decorations out front and inside were fun and just a little irreverent, and the wait staff was hopping to accommodate the increased October tourism. The fried chicken sandwich, which we were warned is a friend chicken thigh and not breast, was good, but it is huge--easily enough to split if you're not starving. The macaroni and cheese had a delicious creamy consistency, piping hot and checking all the comfort food boxes. ***3 1/2 stars*** My chums and I came here this past Saturday for lunch after an underwhelming nearby estate sale. J.P.'s was easy to locate (though we were delayed a minute searching for quarters for the meter - keep that in mind if you intend to park nearby), and we were seated immediately in a dining section just off the bar area. We could hear some lively chatter in a room to our left (one of our more observant companions noted that they had an official party room there), but it definitely wasn't a negative/distraction. I didn't have a palate for it, but if you're of a boozy disposition, this is definitely more of a beer place - there wasn't a cocktail menu, just straight-up beer, wine and spirits lists. I'm more of a wine drinker, and I tend to just go with something non-alcoholic at a public house like this if I know there's more of an understandable focus on the beer. But regardless, you have options. Everyone at the table went with something from the sandwich menu. I opted for the pulled pork sandwich, which was good. The cheese was a LITTLE rubbery/congealed on the edges but taste-wise was fine and a decent complement to the pork. The aforementioned pork was appropriately tender, and I can always get down with ciabatta. A solid bread choice in almost all instances. There were unannounced pickle slices on the dish that had to be evacuated to nearby plates, but their presence only affected one or two bites of my sandwich. (Half of our dining party squealed in terror at them, the other half rolled their eyes and took the pickles. I feel like that's what always happens with pickles.) Given that it's a condiment/garnish that easily permeates nearby food, I really think menus should reference them if they're going to be on the plate. We also ordered cheese curds to split as an app, which came with marinara sauce. They definitely didn't look like most cheese curds I've seen (disclosure - I've never been to Wisconsin and I'm pretty sure the vast majority of my curd experience has happened at a Chili's, which probably gives me zero street cred), and one of my chums thought after looking and tasting them that they were mislabeled mozzarella sticks. I think they looked more like tater tots, but regardless of appearance they were well received by everyone and didn't last long. The service was very good. We had a wise-cracking native Staten Islander in our party, and the waitress had the perfect amount of savvy/moxie to good-naturedly banter with him. Additionally, all of the food and drinks came out promptly. J.P.'s seems to be pretty popular with the locals, but I honestly didn't encounter anything food-wise during my visit that distinguished it from other American restaurants/bars in the area. They really hit the spot. For entrees, my wife ordered the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich. I ordered the meal that J.P. Doyle's is most well-known for: The "Horseman" Burger! This is the very same dish that was featured on "Man vs Food". It features a Kaiser roll topped with Chipotle Mayo, Pickles, Lettuce, Tomato, Burger Patty, Irish Sharp Cheddar Cheese, Bacon, and then finished off with their homemade Chili. It was the juiciest, most delicious bacon cheddar burger that I've ever eaten in my life. It was good enough for the Headless Horseman himself. I washed it down with a delicious Pumpkin Ale from Schlafly Brewing. My wife and I were very satisfied with our meal experience. We'll always make sure to stop at J.P. This was a cool little local place in town, came in with a friend before some Halloween fun in the area So start with the fish & chips were great, the batter was perfect, not sure if it was beer batter or what but was so crispy and not soggy at all!! The Mac n cheese was really good as well, it's a 4 cheese layer with one being Blue Cheese (it took a min to figure it out), the only thing I would like is a little texture with it, maybe bread crumbs or the cheese to be layered on top & bubbly? It was soooo good though so it would be a just a little bonus to add that texture in. I thought the atmosphere was really nice, deff seems like a place where locals hang & you can get a decent priced beer or cider. Service was fantastic, the only thing that I didn't love was the back door opening and closing (it was super windy that day) and it kept freezing me out. Tara, Tara and MORE Tara! The vibe here is incomparable, and the food is absolutely incredible...but what keeps us coming literally year round from a 90+ minute commute is the bartender Tara. She remembers you and what you ordered 6+ months ago, and treats you like family every time. The food feels like home, and Tara feels like family. We come here every fall for Halloween festivities, and today randomly decided to come in the spring to see how this quaint town north of the city is...and we popped in before grabbing our train out and were just as impressed in the spring as we were in the fall. This was a pleasant surprise in Sleepy Hollow. They had a huge outdoors Bier Garden with plenty of tables and waitstaff. The staff was prompt, friendly and had a complete working knowledge of the menu. Our waitress was a young lady named KC, who was a pleasure and a testament to the family atmosphere you will experience at this eatery. The menu is simple with chicken fingers, burgers, sandwiches, etc. I had the Horseman Burger which I order "headless" (lol), which was homemade and tasted great. We also had their Buffalo Chicken bites which were freshly prepared and a hit with my guests. They also have steaks and some higher priced items which I will try on my return. Veggie burger was huge and quite good. It wasn't the type baked with veggies and spice, but more of the Beyond Burger type. Skinny fries were pretty good. Regular burger had a very smoky flavor from the bacon -- a bit too much but otherwise was told by others it was a good burger. French onion soup- definitely something better to get in the crock while in the restaurant-- not for take-out but had no choice.. The place was packed and we still don't want to dine indoors.
