Recently spent a few days at this gem of a hotel! We were meeting our daughter and her family ( and in-laws) for a short beach vacation. We had never been to Ocean City NJ before but have been to other shore towns in NJ. From the moment we got to the Harris House I was very pleased! The staff at check-in were very accommodating and let us check in early as our room was ready! They even called housekeeping to make sure that all was ready before we got there! The room was extremely clean, well appointed and convenient to the boardwalk and beach!! The free beach tags were welcome [ even though they never asked to see them at the beach!] The motel was very quiet and the pool was great! I would definitely recommend this motel to anyone!! This hotel is a gem! Stayed in nice first floor room facing the pool; very clean, plenty of parking, nice pool, super nice staff helped us a few times. Police office on boardwalk right next to hotel; very safe! This is an amazing value and worth it; very pleased with comfort, service, location to beach/boardwalk, and overall stay. Coffee in lobby nice is morning, too. Yes, walls a little thin at night but it calms down and you get good rest. Comfy beds and lovely ice cold AC. Shower/tub roomy and nice water pressure. We really enjoyed our stay at Harris House and we especially loved the location...right off the boardwalk at 12th Street! Our room was spotlessly clean and seemed to be recently updated (the room smelled like new carpeting and looked really fresh). The room had a flat screen t.v., microwave oven and fairly large refrigerator (not a full size, but bigger than a cube fridge) which included a small freezer. It's not a fancy hotel by any means, but we felt it was nice for the amount we paid. I found all of the staff to be welcoming and friendly, with warm smiles, and they kindly let us leave our car in their lot for a few hours after we checked out. That was much appreciated! The pool was heated, but we didn't use it as it was very chilly and windy during our visit. Note...the pool is not heated a LOT. It's still cool, but it's not freezing. There were only 2 things we did not like. The mattresses seemed low quality and were somewhat uncomfortable. Also, the walls are thin and we could hear everything in the next room. This was especially annoying because the family in the next room had noisy, bratty kids. All things considered, we really enjoyed our stay and would gladly visit again. UPDATE: May, 2018: We stayed again and we liked it even better this time! I added another star. We had a new mattress which was very comfortable (I think they replaced all the mattresses in the hotel) and the bedding was updated and the room was even nicer than before. Do not stay here if you want a quiet room. The walls/windows are about 5% soundproofed. You can hear every car and person walking by having a conversation. Should've invested in some insulation and sound caulk for their exterior walls. Real bad. read more

Clean rooms!!!!! Very friendly staff!! They let us check in early. Around 11:00 am. You can also stay and use the pool after you check out. Nice size pool. Flat screen TV's in the rooms. The location is great right next to the boardwalk. We would definitely stay here again. read more

Came here with my wife and two kids on the photos they put pictures of their updated bathrooms we did not stay in one that was updated. The room was clean and the rooms were cleaned daily. The staff was friendly and polite and check in was a breeze. This place is excellent because of its location it is literally right next to the board walk. The only thing I disliked is you are not allowed to vape or smoke outside the hotel. I like to vape and having to leave the facility just to take a couple of puffs is quite a nuisance to me since I am on vacation I want to be able to have a good time and relax. read more

Just got back from a last minute overnite stay at Harris House. When visiting Ocean City we usually drive from the Borgata or Golden Nugget to avoid the beachy motels. After reading some reviews we decided to give Harris House a shot so we weren't driving back and forth, and we were so glad we did! The room was the perfect size for what we needed, was clean as a whistle, had a very comfortable king sized bed, and was literally steps from the boardwalk. It had everything we needed in one package. There is also a pool that is even nicer in person then in the photos. The entire staff is so nice and polite and are glad to help in any way! This was our second time staying @ Harris House. Love the location, love how CLEAN this hotel is from top to bottom inside and out! Staff are friendly, helpful and courteous. They provide beach rage for each paying adult. Pool area a plus and again clean with towels provided. There is a shower/changing area in case you want to stay for beach on day of check out. Been staying here for years, love location. Seems to have become a little dated and not as clean as it used to be. Just a few simple upgrades would make it much better. #1 on their list should be new mattresses; they are extremely soft & uncomfortable. The AC units need a thorough cleaning, they were very musty and had mold growing on them. Also, some people in the front office are extremely rude, particularly the women with short grey hair. When someone checks out and just spent over $600 at your hotel a "thank you" would be appreciated instead of a rude attitude! read more

I was pleasantly surprised that the actual facility was even better than the pictures Recognizing this is a beach hotel I was extremely pleased with the front desk staff, the maids, and the person servicing the pool. The pool was nice and clean with plenty of towels. The hotel is literally steps away from he boardwalk and beach Room was clean and maintained. We decide to stay her purely off of Yelp reviews as we decided last second to book a vacation to OCNJ. We had never been here and we weren't sure what to expect. The location is ideal! Super close to the boardwalk but not in the main hustle and bustle. The staff is very friendly and were happy to accommodate us when we asked to switch from the 2nd floor to the 1st (due to my dads neuropathy and to no fault of theirs) The rooms are very clean and the staff does a great job everyday of keeping up with the rooms. So easy to walk back and forth from beach to room when the kids inevitably forget something in the room ;) Steps from restaurants, shops, ice cream, crepes, pretty much everything you need. Severely Disappointed - we stayed last weekend as we went to a show in Atlantic City but wanted to wake up in OCNJ. Being off season I didn't expect a lot to be happening but if your going to be open for business you should be accommodating. The room was available when we arrived, which was earlier than check-in but then again it was Oct. We put our things in the room and went up to walk on the boardwalk, eat lunch, etc. Upon return we needed to get ready to go the our show in AC. Turning on the shower I thought I was doing something wrong, the water pressure OR LACK THEREOF, was barely a trickle. I asked my husband if I was operating the shower incorrectly and he came to take a look as well. Unfortunately we weren't doing anything wrong. I could not wet my hair enough to even shampoo and rinse. We were in a time crunch and couldn't do much more than let the front desk know about our experience, her reply - "I've never heard that complaint before" her only offer for solution was to move us to another room but then she commented oh you're only staying one night. As if that wasn't enough, the sheets on the bed were horrible, the pillows were WORSE. We turned out the lights and the outdoor walkway lights and street lights lit up the entire room even with the curtains drawn. I woke up at 5:30 AM and couldn't wait to get out of bed and check out of that room. I think I would have been more comfortable sleep on the beach. Upon check out at 7:40 AM I spoke to the front desk person again, he couldn't be bothered to turn off his ringing cell phone, I again mentioned that the water pressure was non existent, again he had never heard that complaint. He had absolutely no comment and no offer to compensate us as I said I have never been so uncomfortable at an overnight stay. He couldn't be bothered to attend to my disappointing review so I figure it was better served to post it here on Yelp. Stay away from this place there are so many other choices I know I will surely never stay there again. read more

I've been coming here for years but sad to say It's time the Harris house updates its facility. Moldy shower curtains, horrible beds, outdated and worn everything, and everybody in my group sneezed non stop while in the room. Let's hope for some improvements soon because the only thing it's has going for it is the proximity to the ocean. read more

Great location! Literally steps to the heart of the boardwalk. Very clean friendly front desk. Tight parking lot but no problems getting a spot. Only complaint was the air conditioner. Inside you can't adjust the flow of the air so it literally blew right in your face while you were sleeping. Tip, use the chairs to clock the air flow. Outside if you sit on the balcony the hot air blows right on you. Otherwise it's perfect for a couple day stay!! read more

My girlfriend and I were looking for a place to stay for a reasonable price on a saturday. Many places were $250+ and were to far away. We spoke to Mike and he got us a room for a good deal. It's located right on the boardwalk, had a pool, and free parking. The rooms are clean, the showers are hot and cold, and the air conditioner is pretty nice. I booked a room on tuesday 26th for this coming weekend, friday 30th. I called the actual hotel office to book and spoke with a lady named Lynne, they took a $298 deposit to hold my bed, I called back not even 2 hours later and had cancel due a family emergency, the same lady that i spoke with said I would get NONE of my $298 deposit back because I would have had to call a week before arrival KNOWING THAT I JUST BOOKED IT TWO HOURS AGO!! CALLING A WEEK BEFORE WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPOSSIBLE. I was not informed whatsoever when booking that it would be impossible to cancel!! I'm wondering why in the hell is it even allowed to be booked 4 days in advance when you have to call a week before to cancel. They told me I would of had to call on june 23rd to get any of my money back at all when I booked it on the 26th!!!!! read more

Booked last minute, prices were the best I could find near the beach, by far. Room was average, but for a last minute booking, at the lowest price around, I was floored. Every employee was pleasant and accommodating, pool was nice, location was superb. A minute walk from room to the board walk. I'm pretty surprised at the cost, they could charge more. What a horrible night in at the Harris House in OC NJ. The expression of "paper thin walls" doesn't begin to be accurate. I heard phone alarms 3 rooms down. I found by turning the noisey ac unit on high, it narrowed the noise down to just hearing next door! Bed was so soft we ached all day. Wi-Fi was spotty at best. Okay, so I had my reservations about staying here, and honestly, it is exactly what I expected, so shame on me. I called one time prior to check in and the woman on the phone was so rude that I almost canceled my reservation. I should have known. However, the guys at check in were great!! It cost me $965 to stay for 3 nights, so I was hoping for a little bit of a better experience. Let's start with the pros: a parking spot. You can literally walk everywhere, so there is really no need to move you car. Second, they provide beach tags, but only for "paying adults" so be careful how you make your reservation. Now for the cons: the room smelled terrible when we arrived. A combination of air freshener and stale/musty air - we left the door open and it was fine. We needed a cot for an extra person. They provided the cot, but there is no room to set it up. Of course we got charged for it, and I was not going to argue about it, but the rooms are very small, so........ There is a balcony to sit on, with chairs provided. The problem is the smoking. Every time we tried to go outside, someone was out on the balcony smoking (not exaggerating). Be careful where your room is located. We were on the street side, and the noise from the trash trucks and food service trucks at 5:30 am would wake the dead. Last but not least, I really enjoyed the free coffee in the lobby, but it is 2016. Why are you still using styrofoam cups?? This is a solid family-run hotel. Its my family's first time staying here and we are not disappointed at all. The room isn't huge or fancy but it is comfortable and doesn't feel cramped. We are on the street side, first floor, which is a little loud but that's to be expected staying right next to the entrance to the boardwalk. We can see the boardwalk from our little porch area which is perfect for a family with a young child. The hotel has a heated pool which is large and clean. They provide pool towels and keep them stocked. The room is clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. I wish the bathroom was a little larger with more places to hang stuff like bathing suits or towels but it's by no means a deal breaker. I appreciate that there are some chairs and a little table in front of our room so that sandy beach gear doesn't have to be tracked into the hotel room. This hotel is amazing! The check-in people were friendly and personable. Our hotel room was on the first floor, so my husband and I literally walked out the front door of our room, turned left and the boardwalk was right there! And Manco & Manco pizza!!! the rooms are the perfect size and all you need! I love that the sink isn't in the bathroom (just a shower and toilet) so I can get ready while my husband showered and we weren't in each other's way! Pool was great! Also, my husband and I left and 2 hours into our drive home, we realized we left something of extreme value in the room. We called and spoke with Mike at the front desk and he got into the room and found what we left and held onto it while we came back! I cannot tell you what that means to us. Just good friendly people and atmosphere. Anywhere else I feel like our valuable would have been lost. This was our second stay at the Harris House. For an updated 50s era motel, this is a wonderful spot to enjoy Ocean City. The location is ideal, only a half a block from the boardwalk at 12th street and right in the middle of everything. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Our room was ready on time, and they gave us a late check-out so we could enjoy more time on the beach in the morning. The rooms are updated and clean, a definite plus. They had a refrigerator and microwave, so they're good for longer stays. And the price was superb. We booked 2 days before our trip and had no issues. I highly recommend this place. read more

We have stayed at the Harris House many times over many years. I went there with my parents and now I'm taking my grandchildren. There were a total of 14 adults and 5 children in our group. This includes 6 adults from my sister's family. It is appropriate to say that everyone of us had an excellent time! We spent time on the boardwalk and at the beach. The grandchildren enjoyed the pool after a long hot day at the beach. I'm sure we will be back again in 2018. Thanks for everything Harris House!! read more

This motel is conveniently located, however, the room itself not clean or desirable. Maid service consisted of making the beds and taking the used towels only. Nothing else during our stay was done; bathroom wasn't cleaned, room not vacuumed, mirror not cleaned, recyleables not emptied for three days, appliances not cleaned. Also, the drawers in the dresser were broken, the light didn't work and the toilet seat would not stay up. It's just not an attractive looking room at all. This is our 3rd summer staying at Harris House. Location, location, location! Large pool! Friendly, very helpful staff! Every year they have upgraded some aspect of the facilities. They actually mop and disinfect the stairways, which impressed me. It is well kept, clean, and rooms have larger sized small fridges, and microwaves, which is soooo convenient! Coin op laundry machine if needed. It can be a bit noisy due to it's location on a busy street and right off the boardwalk ramp, but it's a friendly Ocean City type noise, and winds down after folks exit the Boardwalk for the evening. Often see families bring grandparents along, and it is an easy stroll to the boards and beach if you can't or don't want to hike it too far. We always call for reservations to make sure we are getting the best rate and to take advantage of any deals they offer. Added plus, after you check out, or before your room is ready for check in, you are welcome to use the two changing rooms/restrooms for the rest of the day. They are locked to the general public.It's not the Waldorf, but as Ocean City motels go, it's tops! read more
