We had been looking for a front door for a while. While the sales person we dealt with was professional and brought lots of options, the follow-up to find out about our door was disappointing. We understand we should have insisted on another sit down to go over everything. It was installed on a cold Jan day and couldn't be happier with our selection, and their help/professionalism when installing. As mentioned in another review, Rinata also hung up the phone on my mother. Harris was hired for a roof repair because of a leak in our kitchen, of course their recommendation was to replace the entire roof along with some "suggested" add ons. 9 months and $10,000 later after the 2nd snowfall of the entire Chicago winter the roof started to leak in the exact same spot. After emails and calls to Harris they of course denied this was due to their poor quality of work but instead they blamed a new problem from the heavy snow when it was clearly one of our mildest winters in Chicago. After sending emails with the owner, Phil Davis included, we didn't receive a response except from the one person who was on leave during this time, which shows the lack of integrity for this company. Since they were dealing with my senior mother during this process I can't help but assume they were taking advantage of her since there was no attempt to resolve this issue. If you want quality work and a company with standards and integrity, I would not hire Harris, especially if you are a woman or someone that doesn't want their mother, daughter or sister taken advantage of. Roof I would not recommend this company and please email me if you want more specifics. We had several issues in the beginning and they had to come back out several times to fix. It was done fast and sloppy. The gutters were done well. As life goes - they fixed a few things and then we had to let some things go. We replaced our roof after twenty years and never had issues with debris sitting in creases. We've had the same trees and if any debris besides tree limbs that we have had the debris falls into gutters after a rain or blows away. I promise you this is true. We noticed this year to be different. We also had a good rain and it didn't wash the debris into the gutters. Being the issues we had in the beginning with this company this warranted to be looked at. I looked around at all the same homes in my subdivision and not one has debris sitting in a crease. I called the office and spoke to Renita. I shared my concern and she said she would get back to me. She called back days later and said she asked around and everyone told her it was normal. This was on a phone message. I called back leaving a message even though what she said is a norm I still wanted someone to stop by and look at the roof as well as educate us on the whys. I received a call days later and it was on voice message. I called back today and Renita was adamant that it was normal and there was no issue. When is the customer wrong first and the company right. She kept repeating herself to make sure she won this call-case. She accused me of talking over her and she got angry at me and hung up the phone. Talking over her or her not wanting to see the other side of it. I called back and spoke to another person that answered the phone and I shared Renita hung up on me her not liking me challenging the issue. I said I would contact the sales rep and she was kind and said I would do that. Shortly after I received a call back from Renita and she said the roofer would come out that did the roof and look at it but it wouldn't be right away. It could take days. I said ok and we hung up. I drove up to my home today and this man was taking pictures of my roof. I rolled down my window and I kindly said oh are you from Harris. He said yes and he started to rage on me. I have it on video and photos. He preceded to tell me I yelled at his employee Renita and I said that's not true and then he said this is just debris. He didn't even go on the roof per my husband who was home at the time and no doorbell rang. I just looked at ring and he didn't ring doorbell. He just took pictures from afar to prove his point. He said in a rage voice I drove all the way from Wisconsin. He was so angry and you know that saying "Karen" which I do not like. Guess what this was a Karen. He came to my home in rage and he left in a rage fit. He got in front of my car and kept screaming at me and even said this wouldn't be covered under warranty anyway. Grateful my neighbors witnessed this too. Anyway - people do your research. We had issues with the quality of this job. The sales rep was nice. Other than that I would not recommend. There is no problem for a customer to question a concern. We hire contractors for their expertise. If I didn't already have issues with this company in the beginning which I have many pictures to confirm maybe I would have a little more faith in them. I have never experienced a rage filled person like today and he's an owner. No one told him to drive from Wisconsin and that is not what I was told who was coming to look at roof. This man took his anger out on me and it's unacceptable. I can let things go but this I will not. This is not right. People shouldn't be treated this way. He stormed away. I called the office back and Renita answered I said someone just stopped by -the owner and he was filled with anger and rage and I told her that she told him I yelled at her and I didn't. She said I didn't say that to him and I didn't know he was coming. In tears I said what a horrible company and hung up. I was very happy & excited to have the rep, Dave come out to take a look at replacing our original windows in our 1955 home we just purchased. It would have been a simple job as 14 of our windows are the same size and 2 windows are another size. Simple. He was very informative and helpful. However, he NEVER followed up with a quote. I sent him several very kind friendly reminder emails that we were excited to hear back and we're even considering to have Harris redo our siding as well, but he never responded. it is not going on 4 weeks with no response when he told me it would be just a few days. I think this speak volumes about the people Harris decides to have a part of their team and also is a reflection of their business practices. Four of my windows were in dire need of replacement. It included a leaky window which was damaging my living room ceiling. After 3 estimates I decided to go with Harris. They gave me the best price and worked with me on the custom trim I wanted on the inside. The estimator gave me different options on windows & was very informative. The window installers were professional and they seemed highly competent. One of the workers made sure he took care of the leak by installing a drip edge under the problem area. Called to get a quote for new basement windows, new soffit and facia and new gutters. Salesman came out took a look and was positive. Waited a week and did not get a quote so I called the salesman back. He said he still needed to talk to his labor superintendent to see if they wanted to take the job. He told me he would get back to me later that day or the next day at the latest. Never heard back from him even after leaving him two additional voice messages. I guess they are so successful they can pick and choose which jobs they want to take on. As a person in the construction field, this is terrible customer service because now I am writing a bad review when all they had to do was call and say they could not take on the job instead of leaving me hanging. Overall pleased with the process of getting a quote and installation on all windows and 2 patio doors for my condo unit. Was less than impressed with their follow-up, post installation. Lance, their salesperson, was matter-of-fact, friendly, and very responsive during the quote, signing of contract and such. Also they were very patient and open with communication while my HOA took their sweet time approving changes. Installation was very smooth; the crew was professional and efficient, cleaned up pretty well (left minor things like pencil markings on wall, but were thorough with vacuuming). Where I had difficulty with their customer service was _after_ installation (and final payment was already submitted), when I noticed minor issues with two windows (minor bowing of sill and a sash window not staying up). I called 3 times and each time they promised someone would call me back to set up an appointment for a team member to come out and take a look. The follow up call for an appointment never happened. It made me feel like they were only helpful and eager when I hadn't yet fully paid them. I no longer have that to bargain with... It has been several months since installation, and windows themselves are holding up well now that we're entering the winter. I have resigned myself, and don't feel like calling again to empty promises. read more

Our first contact with Harris was with their salesman Lance. He was very informative and helped us select the windows and siding we wanted Harris to quote. The price he quoted was within our budget and time frame for completion. We purchased siding, windows and gutters. We are very pleased with the workmanship and quality of materials. The project was completed within five weeks from the signing of the contracts. Would have been faster if mother nature was more cooperative. If anything was lacking it was the time it took to correct our punch list items. Again mother nature had a hand in delaying things. Not impressed. Very unprofessional. Salesman Lance told us they could get the windows installed and delivered in about 6-8 weeks. It took him about that long to just put the order in. Additionally he told us that he was able to match the current window sizes. Only after we made a deposit he calls and says we can't get the size as he promised. He then expects us to make a decision about window size at a moments notice even though he had over six weeks to place the order and contact us. He also talked very poorly about women and got upset when I told him I wanted to discuss the changes with my wife before making a decision. Installation crew was rude, disrespectful and extremely slow. Installer Dave took 5 full days to install 5 windows (a job that probably should have been 2 days at most). They did significant damage to our walls and did not repair as promised by one of the installers. Harris is making a big mistake paying these crews by the hour. Dave intentionally works very slow to pad his bill. Additionally they stored their tools in our garage the entire week making inaccessible for us. Dave also had the nerve to harass us every single day in an attempt to get us to buy him lunch. My wife offered them a dozen donuts on the last day. When my 3 year old son saw the donuts he wanted one, so my wife said she was going to take just one for him. Well, Dave had an absolute fit that she took back one of the donuts (that we provided) for my 3 year old child. Something is really off about that. We didn't even feel safe having him in our home after that. Lastly, Dave even suggested that he was going to make it a "requirement" that clients keep the air conditioning on the entire time they were replacing windows. Just crazy. I would spend your money somewhere else. read more

I initially had Harris exteriors come in to remove ALL exterior rotted wood and replace it with new wood and capping. Andy did the job. The job was done in a timely manner and the fee was paid for services rendered. Fast forward 2 years later and I am having my siding/roof redone and the current contractor notifies me that I have rotten wood along some of the windows along side my house. He promptly removes the wood which is black in color, indeed rotted. I called Harris exteriors immediately and spoke to Carl. He sent Scott (the salesman) out to see what the problem was. Scott came and saw the wood, admitted that it was indeed rotten, took pictures, and asked what he could do to rectify the situation. I asked for compensation in the amount that I now have to pay to fix the problem that I originally had paid 2 years ago to be fixed. This was Friday July 17, 2015. Scott told me that I would hear back from him or someone from company by Monday July 20, 2015. I called on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 when I still had heard nothing. The woman that answered the phone told me that Scott was on another call and transferred me to Carl. Carl told me that Scott's car had broken down on the road and this is why he could not talk to me. Ok, now they don't even know why he is unable to answer the phone?! Either way, I was assured that Scott would call me back. Today is Friday, July 24, 2015 and I called once again after not hearing anything back from the company. I spoke to Carl who assured me that Scott is just busy with consultations but he would call me back today in between consultations. It is now 9pm and of course no one has returned my call. I feel like I am being avoided. Harris exteriors as business professionals should at the very least return customers' calls. The work they did, or lack thereof, they blamed upon the fact that they could not see the part of the wood that had rotted when they did the work. Being professionals, I trusted that they would be thorough and ensure that EVERYTHING was completed. I brought them on as contractors to fix what was wrong and they did not complete the job. Had I not gotten my siding redone, I would have never known that I still had rotten wood on my house and possibly run in to much worse problems later. I am hoping by leaving this review, Harris exteriors will return my call, and properly rectify the problem that I am now facing due to their lack of completeness. Harris Exteriors replaced the siding on my home a few years before I purchased it. A piece came down during some recent storms. I contacted them, and was pleased to hear that they were willing to come out, even though the warranty had expired, but after sending an email, with pictures, and two phone calls, they have yet to follow through on this promise. I would rather they had never offered to honor the warranty; probably still would have hired them since they did the initial siding work. read more

Good upfront sales representation of product options and Harris's commitment to quality, but downhill thereafter. We committed to nine Sierra Pacific sash replacements after receiving multiple assurances of suitability and experience with the product. When measurements were completed arithmetic error in quote was identified resulting in nearly 10% price increase. Eight weeks later when installation was attempted, we were notified the product was not compatible and installation could not be completed. After pressing Harris to identify viable options an alternate solution was offered three days later, and multiple assurances were provided that the additional materials needed would be expedited to complete installation. Four weeks later installation was completed, and my wife was left to clean up resulting mess, predominantly sawdust which had blown into house and settled on unprotected surfaces. She questioned the work, citing scratches and gouges to interior trim and windows so tight that they could not be opened. The only response offered was that it was "a tough installation" and windows would "settle in". I returned two days later and confirmed the gouges/dents/scratching, large gaps between the frame and trim, extremely poor stain match, and one window which fit so poorly that it could be moved back and forth ¼" in the frame. When I raised these issues, I was offered little meaningful response and no clear plan to address. Escalation of the issue to President of Harris yielded the following response: Larry, I hope you don't pay me I will lien the home until paid, Phil Davis Despite this unprofessional and threatening tone, I persisted and gained commitment to make additional "adjustments" and add transition strips to cover large gaps and gouges/scratches/dents. They were installed three days later, with even worse stain match than remainder of the materials, and no improvement in the poor fitting window which was justified as "within industry tolerance" with no clear explanation of why it was different than the other eight. I can only conclude that Harris is not committed to their Mission Statement or any reasonable standard of workmanship. To Phil I say you have your full payment but have likely lost more through constructive review of this experience, and exposure to poor overall capability and complete lack of commitment to customer satisfaction. read more

I needed a new roof. After getting 4 estimates, the prices quoted were all within a couple hundred dollars of each other. I went with Harris because Harris offered 0% financing, in addition to the fact that no deposit was required. Other companies wanted 30% down, or 10%down. My salesman, Joe, went into the attic and checked out the condition of the wood, and was there the day of installation. About a week after the work was done, I got a bill in the mail. The work was done quickly, they cleaned up very well, and were even careful, as I had asked them to be, in the back yard where my dogs hang out. Scott came out to check the current door, measure, discuss options, etc. However life events got in the way and we didn't end up getting the door until this year. When I reached out to them again, Scott remembered me and still had all our specs. He sent out a two-person team to install our door. They were friendly, professional, and timely. Everything was done exactly on time, no junk was left in my yard, and the roof looks great. More often than not, companies I have dealt with in the past drop the ball somewhere along the line. These guys did a phenomenal job on my roof. Last year a notice a water spot in my kitchen after a heavy rainfall. I thought to myself that this would be an easy fix, probably.just a broken seal around the exhaust vent. I could not have been more wrong. I went outside to look and the vent was exactly where the leak was. Then it hit me that the middle of my roof looked like it was sagging. I went into my attic to find many of the trusses holding up the roof were no longer attached to the plywood and holding up the roof. Never been in the attic and never needed to. They had to completely tear off my roof, secure the trusses in a method approved by the city and architectural engineer, put down new plywood, and secure new shingles. The yard was clean when done, they were extremely quick once the guidelines of the project were set and approved. I would recommend them to anyone. While it was tore off, I had them fix other issues that were incorrect with the bathroom exhaust and install an exhaust fan. Don't hesitate to have them quote the work you need done. read more

We are very happy with the service and work provided by Harris Exteriors. We had hail damage and put in a claim with our insurance company. The insurance adjusters inspected our home. Scott from Harris worked with the adjusters to make sure that our home was restored to it's pre-hail damaged status. Several different crews worked on our home - roof, siding and gutters. They were all very professional and experts in their discipline. The roofing crew had a dedicated worker to pick up old roofing and scrap as they worked. Needless to say they all left my home picked up from their work. We did have a discrepancy with siding color but that was resolved to our satisfaction. I would love to take the time to give Harris Roofing exteriors a review....run. Run far away. I got new siding several years ago. They DIDN'T wrap the house correctly. Every winter, I would get condensation in the same area and corners. I didn't know that was from poor wrapping. I had black MOLD in a closet corner that was recently discovered. Wasted a lot of time researching cause, then contacted Harris Roofing. Andy (their top expert) came to look at things, RELUCTANTLY admitted it was from their POOR job and tried to fix things. It didn't.. He tried to argue with me, but the evidence was in front of him. They never insulated the front light even when I asked them multiple times. When I recently had a repairman replace the light, he literally was able to touch the inside drywall. OMG. Now I know why condensation was ruining my painted wall inside every winter. This is why villages have permits. Interesting though - the permit was never signed off afterwards. Ooops - how did that get overlooked. After researching the internet and learning about different products, I settled on a mahogany finished door with a 1/2 frame etched glass insert. Next I called several companies and was impressed with Harris Exteriors. They got back to me right away and I didn't have to hear a 90 minute sales pitch to learn the price. Their price was fair, the door was delivered and installed on time as promised. The door and matching storm door are gorgeous. However, as with any project, there were glitches. The keypad lock was too large and interfered with the storm door. My consultant, Gene, special ordered a different lock and came back to rectify the problem to my complete satisfaction.
