It is unbelievable how poor they are on Covid safety measures. It is like they have not had any training. At least two employees had no masks or they were on their chins. And they don't seem to understand the concept of social distancing- several passed by me within 2 feet when it was easy to go around. Never go to Harris Teeter in Old Town. They were extremely unprofessional leaving a note on the back of my order saying "happy birthday bitch." I tried to tell the manager and she tried to make excuses saying they practice their handwriting. I said it was extremely unprofessional and asked for a full refund, and she didn't want to give it to me at first, but I refused to keep it; who knows what they did to it. The manager seemed upset that I didn't want to take the cake because she had to throw it away. After that, she called the bakery managers and they apologized and offered me a free cake. I ordered a vanilla cake with whipped frosting, asked for that, to get home and had chocolate cake with regular frosting...disappointing. I ordered the cake at 12PM for 5PM same day and they still couldn't get it right. My son's 5th birthday was disappointing. From here on out, I'm making my own cakes. read more

This is my second time at this location, the self checkout line both times have been towards the back of the store. How can you only have 2 of the many self checkout kiosks open. What makes matters worse is only 2 regular lines are open as well. There were many employees standing around chatting. I have a limited lunch break and it's very upsetting have to wait in 10 minute plus lines for 3 items. Not accepting Apple Pay is also a huge downside read more

Terrible experience. Bad service, poorly stocked, no carts, just all round poor. There is no such thing as a quick trip to this market. You'll waste your life trying to get waited on at the butcher and fish counter, but then you might not get waited on at all. Self check out is like a walk back 10 years in technology terms. So inefficient it's not funny. I cannot wait for Wegman's to open in Carlysle. Giant on Duke is better than this. People are helpful and the selection is much better. read more

Extremely rude staff and management. I would never go to this Harris Teeter again. Woman at the front door rudely turned me and an older gentleman away at 7:59 during the rush to get to the store before they closed at 8. I am so disappointed and let down by their inability to see my, and the older gentleman's, humanity especially in a time like this. I called the manager and her response was "we're closed, just come tomorrow". I'm gluten free and recently moved to this area. I don't have a lot of things to choose from at home right now due to my big move. So tonight, I probably won't eat a proper meal due to their horrible service and poor placement of signage. Love the entire store. Hit the organic blueberries. And seafoods. But, this is an ode to the Sam and his deli. If you're there on a Thursday at lunch or dinner, visit Sam and his super friendly colleagues in the deli. Try the pizza. Wow! And the bread lady, so helpful. But, Thursday's, its prime rib. For $10 a prime rib meal. Delicious. And Sam slices the meat with such a smile. Delightful. So, im there every Thursday. I tell Sam it's his personality and charm, and only secondarily the hugely delectable prime rib he serves. Uncertain if he believes me. 5 Stars all around! read more

Go there if you don't care about getting COVID-19! I saw a woman without a face mask and expressed my surprise and concern to an associate at the self check out area. She said I could talk to the manager but he probably won't do anything about it. Really?????? This translates to management not caring about the health and safety of their customers. I find this dismissive behavior very disturbing. Didn't the governor make himself clear about wearing a face covering inside grocery stores?They either don't have a television set or don't understand English. I will not shop there again and highly suggest you stay away too if you want to stay COVID free. read more

I finally gave up on this HT and started going to another grocery store that's farther away. The produce here is hit or miss. The meat is usually good. The primary problem is that they never have enough cashiers working, and never have any baggers to help the cashiers. It makes the checkout process unreasonably long. There are self checkout lines which are fine if you have only a few items. But the self checkout stations aren't big enough to balance a cart full of groceries or large items, and having to wait on an employee to come approve your alcohol purchase is annoying and holds up the line. It's just more trouble than it's worth to shop here. read more

Trader Joe's and Giant, be afraid....be very afraid. There's a new grocery sheriff in (Old) town by the name of Harris Teeter. Tucked between Madison Ave. and St. Asaph in North Old Town within a block of a subpar Giant and Trader Joe's with the most obnoxious entrance with the added inconvenience of validated parking, Harris Teeter is a total GAMECHANGER for residents in Old Town. Wide selection of everything you would want from either of its competitors (minus some of the quirky items that put Trader Joe's on the map) along with a wide selection of prepared foods ranging from sushi (stick with the cooked items), rotisserie chicken, an amazing spread of beautifully baked goods/desserts, a hot food bar and pizza bar, and extensive selection of wine/beer. Having made a few gourmet meals at home, I can attest to the freshness of the seafood, meats, and produce. With the store being open 24hrs and plenty of garage parking without validation in a well-lit residential area sitting at the base of a luxury apartment building, there is no reason to venture out of Old Town for groceries with perhaps Costco being the lone exception in terms of buying in bulk. There might be a slight upcharge in terms of pricing, but the VIC card (the name of their savings card) offers reasonable discounts and there's a cash incentive option for filling prescription meds from their pharmacy. I foresee the demise of Giant in due time and Trader Joe's should still be OK but they better step up their game so as not to lose too many longstanding patrons. read more

During our stay in Alexandria, we enjoyed stopping by Harris Teeter. They have a great selection of produce, grocery and deli items, among other things. The store was easy to navigate around and was clean. Customer service was pretty good, but I felt like the staff could have been a little friendlier during my three visits. I wasn't too much of a fan of their take home pizza and overall their prices are much higher than Trader Joe's (right down the street). read more

I come for the fish market. I live within walking distance of this store and visit it 2-3 times a week for the fish. I've upped my fish intake by probably 50% since this store opened. They have great sales and fair every day prices. 2lbs mussels for $5 - wild sockeye salmon $10/lb - snow crablegs on sale for $6/lb. A while ago I was even able to snag scallops on a manager's special for $10/lb (generally $18/lb). The fish is fresh and the service is attentive. Props to Mike who cut me a perfect pound of salmon the other day. I always ask the attendants to get it as even in thickness as possible (not easy) and it generally ends up about 70/30. Mike took extra care to find/cut me a filet that was almost perfect. Kudos to the manager, Kierra, for doing such a great job - Keith is awesome too. I don't buy much else in the store unless it is on sale. I find much of the store overpriced although I've notice them come down to TJ prices on some competitive items. read more

BEWARE!!! I've had my debit card numbers stolen 4 times in the past 6 months! The only link is this Harris Teeter. I swipe my card and a few hours later someone tries to make a fraudulent transaction. I'm not sure how its happening, because I get a new card each time and I go to different registers. But its definitely coming from this store somehow. Make sure to check your banking/credit accounts after you shop here! read more

I've enjoyed going to Harris Teeter since I moved to the Washington, DC area several years ago. I was super happy when this location opened up near the Sport and Health. Harris Teeter does quality food to go from their sushi to their salad bar (it's a great option if you don't feel like cooking after a long work out) well. I usually don't write reviews on grocery stores but felt this location needed to be called out for one reason, their customer service. I went to this Harris Teeter the day before Thanksgiving and thought the exceptional nice staff was an anomally based on the holiday. However when I went on 3/17/15 I was shocked and impressed that when I couldn't find items the staff would walk with me to find them. I highly recommend this location if to meet your grocery needs if you're in the area. read more

Our beautiful towne is now home to yet another top flight market, Harris Teeter. The space (being brand new) is understandably immaculate, and the staff is very friendly. The grocery selector of Harris Teeter is alright. The employees and service is not good. Ordering a sandwich at the sandwich shop is a process. They have a build your own option but when I ask for something, in this case pepperoni, I get a sigh and are you serious we have to slice the pepperoni as the response. So in order to avoid any further bad service I say it's ok nvm. If you just need something quick I'd go here but I'd go to Trader Joe's or Whole Foods instead if I were you. read more

SOOOO happy that the Teets came into town!! Boy did we need it. Before we had a Giant that was fairly crappy, and a Trader Joe's which I liked but didn't have everything, and would get really crowded. FINALLY we have a grocery that is nice and large, has a fish counter and larger produce section! Harris Teeter is great - we loved our Harris Teeter in Ballston, and love this one too. Free samples, the fish counter as said before, large with tons of choices, self-checkout. They also have more and better deals than Giant in my opinion. Maybe the new appeal will wear off over time and I will form some criticisms.. but for now I am very pleased! Best grocery store in our area! read more

Though I was sad about the old Giant on First St. closing and hesitant about this Harris Teeter opening up, I'm glad it did. Not only does it hold the only Red Box in Old Town (that I know of at least), it offers an array of options for quick meals when you're in a crunch (freshly baked pizza, made to order subs, hot bar, salad bar, sushi etc.) The hot bar adds up in price quickly and there are no scales at the bar to check yourself. You'd be surprised at how much 3 meatballs weigh! I'm a little disappointed in the salad bar in that it doesn't offer some of the ingredients that I typically enjoy at Giant (feta in particular). Prices vary. The meat is by far more expensive than Giant, but the fresh produce seems to be about the same, if not cheaper. There's definitely a large selection of everything which can be a good thing AND a bad thing, depending on how you look at it. I have no doubt I'll be regularly returning to this Harris Teeter, mostly for the Red Box and sub specials. read more

Now I will boycott altogether because of their racist practices toward one of our neighbors. Shame on you HT!!! Pro: Good location, good parking, nice employees. Management is nice as well but ineffective at keeping the salad bar stocked. Con: Salad bar is rarely 100% stocked. Today they were out of all lettuce, carrots and french dressing. The salad bar is frequently littered with empty cups, crumbs. Dressings bottles are not sanitary, and frequently littered with empty bottles. I eat lunch here 4/5 days a week, but today was forced to get back in my car to and drive to another grocery with, perfectly stocked salad bar. I have picture of both store's salad bars. Not trying to ruin anyone's day here. I just want to buy my lunch. If the salad bar is out going of order, they should put a sign on the front door stating such. read more

I would highly recommend this store. The Deli and Bakery are excellent, the staff is friendly and service impeccable. They are quick and efficient and always able to meet any special needs I have. I order all my cakes from their bakery and my catering clients rave about them. Their Deli is both quick, delicious and great service. Two complaints: 1 - You can't take shopping carts out of the front door. I understand why, but this cuts down on the amount of food you can shop for at one time (unless you park in the garage, which I never do). 2 - The staff constantly asking me how I'm doing? I'm fine. Since I can't get everything at TJ's, visiting HT is a necessary experience every week but this location is not my usual store. I much prefer the one across from me at Pentagon Row to this location. This location never seems to have what I'm looking for- whether it be a particular yogurt flavor, the Heavy Seas Loose Cannon beer I like to have in the fridge, or the limited black garlic cape cod chips I'm currently addicted to. All of these items I can always find at Pentagon Row but not here. I've only visited this location a couple of times after shopping at the nearby TJ's but after they had nothing I was looking for yet again, I'm setting aside the convenience of doing both TJ and HT in one trip and making the extra trip across the street from my apartment during the week to the HT that always seems to have exactly what I need. read more

On my way home I stopped to grab a few items for dinner at the Harris Teeter in Potomac Yard, one of the ingredients were a 1 lb of shrimp, so I bought fresh shrimp (spent about $14). Got home opened the bag and almost was knocked out by the smell...I smelled the shrimp and was like "oh HELL NO!"....grab my shoes and ran down to this Harris Teeter (which is 2 blocks from home) and told them the shrimp I bought from Potomac Yard was bad. The manager on duty/customer service was more than helpful! She gave me my money back plus a little more for the inconvenience ;) I'll tell you which Harris Teeter I will continue to shop at :) read more

Usually highly impressed with the renowned customer service provided by most Harris Teeter locations. In this case I was underwhelmed by my experience at the deli counter. The experience: Me: "Do you make sandwiches when you are open?" Two Harris Teeter associates behind the deli counter " No we do not make sandwiches." Me: "So you don't make deli sandwiches?" Two associates: "No." Me: "So you don't make sandwiches in the deli?" Then, I finally get the "We closed or stopped making sandwiches at 7:00." Which I am okay with, but it appeared they were more intent on the attitude of "No is the answer, what is the question." Harris Teeter, you are better than this customer service interaction. Give them remedial training or get them off the line supporting customers. This experience happened 7/31/17 at 9:00 PM. I have worked in the grocery business. Yesterday I was at the meat counter waiting to be served. No one else was waiting and 4 butchers were behind the counter. they were all talking and laughing doing various things, from time-to-time they would look over at me, but turn back to talking. I kept waiting to see if anyone would serve without having to ask. they would continue to glance over and then return to their discussions and some work. Finally, after a few minutes, one came up with a spit in your face look on his face and asked if he could help me. afterward I thanked him-he glanced at me with a sour look and walked off. First time at a Harris Teeter and it was very nice. The store was clean, selection was very good, and the staff was friendly.

Fast, friendly, and fresh. I came here after I discovered that the salmon was not only fresher but than its competitor, Trader Joes, but cheaper. The salmon was on sale for $6.99 per pound while Trader Joes was about $10-11 per pound. Typically, I am a Shopper's man because of it's affordability, but due to a few recent experiences, I'm good. This Harris Teeters was very modern and clean. I would highly recommend to those Alexandrians that like to cook. Get a VIC card account... It's worth the time. read more

This store is very convenient with parking garage underground. The Pharmacy Manager, Bri, went above and beyond to track down a prescription for me from a very busy CVS in DC. She called them multiple times and always checked back in with me. Everyone at the pharmacy is also always very friendly. Also, I purchased a cake for a friend from the bakery here and it was very delicious and was only $13. Definitely recommend! read more

I've repeatedly observed store employees fail to enforce the mask requirement among customers. So I'm done spending money here.

I won't ever shop here again and I will be calling corporate as well reporting this to incident to social media. My friend, whom was wearing a Black Lives Matter shirt, was approached by an employee who said that "All Lives Matter". This is highly inappropriate for an employee to do and otherwise a very racist act as everyone in the world knows that every life matters and that the Black Lives Matter movement is to bring awareness to a subset of lives that are facing a high proportion of injustice and racism. This was unethical and inappropriate. Not to mention, the manager Lydia, who spoke with the employee, also repeated "All Lives Matter" when called about the issue. I have been a frequent customer of this HT since I started working in the area back in March - overall, it is nice and big grocery store but they need to do better on cleaning and refreshing the salad bar, and the hot food bar as well - during the lunch hour it stays very busy in which someone should be monitoring the food bars quiet often and that seems to be the case on my last couple of visits. My customer service experience overall has been very good - not too many complaints about them. read more

Nice grocery store! Reminds of a Whole Foods without the expensive prices. I didn't explore too much around the store, as I really only need a quick meal and some fruit. I have to say I was really impressed with the deli selections, especially the fresh veggies spring rolls, which were reasonably priced (under $7.00)! The fruit and veggie selection was wonderful with lots of variety (from the standard to tropical/exotic). Everything was fresh and nicely displayed, which made anything so appealing! I went there to do my grocery shopping and one lady was at the fresh bread section was so upset because I asked if I can try the some dip that was on the table , she told that she want to leave and she doesn't have time then 19 minutes later I saw her chatting and laughing with another person in same section .
