Good products, mostly helpful staff and it's a nice store the only reason for a 3 star review instead of a 5 star is the checkout experience I can only say this about one person and what I witnessed was a worthless self checkout staff member standing at the end ignoring and offering no assistance to customers that were having problems with the checkout machines (just the offer of assistance to some of the customers would have changed things dramatically) to keep this short in the end I saw multiple customers leaving the store frustrated and embarrassed. Being a business owner myself I would have high concerns about repeat business with having such a good experience turned sour at the end. -Another look- Not knowing if this staff member is having any medical, mental, or other limitations or maybe recently received bad news or possibly had a bad experience with a previous customer prior to what I witnessed or just simply having a bad day. This could be reason for failure to be attentive to customers. read more

I've been to many different Harris Teeters and they are all really good! I went to this one twice within 3 days and was pleased both times. I got a cooked chicken for dinner and it was excellent. Plus, I love the organic produce. I'm newly working in Charlottesville and will be sure to frequent this Harris Teeter! read more

Every time I've gone into HT I've truly enjoyed the experience. The staff is not only helpful, but cheerful. The food is well prepared and delicious. And they carry products that I can't get at my local super market. Good job, HT. Wish I lived closer! read more

There's absolutely nothing wrong with anything HT sells, per se, but getting ripped off makes me angry. Go to any other grocery store in Charlottesville and you can buy 98%-100% of the same stuff for 80% of the price. The produce and selection aren't better enough to justify spending 50% more. read more

Poor customer service. Don't be fooled by the samples and the "5% student discount", they cancel it each year and won't ever tell you. Just had an obnoxious encounter where a bottle of wine was mislabeled on sale, but I was charged full price for it. Price for price, this place is more expensive than the other near by grocery stores. Even for the exact same product. Kroger is much nicer tbh read more

This place reminds me of how grocery stores used to provide customer service long ago. They really are good to the customers. My best customer experience was with a wonderful manager that unfortunately is no longer with us, but the entire store is always looking to be helpful and please the customer. They will still bring your groceries to your car! As I am not a spring chicken anymore I really am grateful how they go out of their way to provide excellent customer service. read more

This store's customer service leaves much to be desired. Gift cards can't be purchased on-line or over the phone; you have to go to the store to buy them. That policy thwarts anyone from out of state who would like to buy a gift card for family or friends who live in the store's area. I emailed their customer service to inquire about this policy and have never received a response. My money is going to a different grocer now. read more

The deli is legit, and would be a great lunch option with the self checkout if it were better staffed. The unpredictability of whether there's someone there or you have to wait ten minutes is annoying. The quality of the meats and cheese is very high relative to other supermarkets/deli options. The sales are also normally very good, and the self checkout is a win. The staff is also really good. I'm assuming they get paid more here than at Kroger, and the difference in care, knowledge and hospitality shows. read more

i have a warm fuzzy spot in my heart for this grocery store. not to get into a big long story, but after being stranded at this strip mall for two days, my husband and i couldn't eat another meal at ruby tuesday. so we went to the 24 hour grocery store and shopped the shelves. eating pasta salad at 5am in a grocery store is one of the fondest memories i have of this town-- i even bought a teeter tote bag that i still use. read more

I truly love this Harris Teeter. I have been many, many times, and I simply don't have a bad thing to say about it. Everyone who works there is very nice. Yeah, they've made their mistakes (notably when they messed up our keg for a party we ordered in September), but they're always so quick to remediate their mistakes that all is forgiven. Further, they always ensure that samples are out during prime business hours--I'm a huge fan of the sugar cookies. Additionally, the prices are decent (if not as cheap as Kroger), and the customer service is good. I always a treat to grab a Starbucks while grocery shopping, which not every grocery store offers. Lastly, they have an amazing College Night, where they have terrific deals and samples abound. It's rightly known as the "Black Friday of Grocery Shopping." I'll definitely be returning many times to this HT. read more

The store overall is fine. It's clean and well stocked. The only real issue is the Deli department. When I went there to pick up some deli meats I must have stood at the counter for 10 minutes trying to get either one of the 2 ladies there to address me. While I was waiting another customer got frustrated and left. I cleared my throat, and spoke loudly several times trying to get their attention. But they both continued to have their backs towards me while discussing their weekends. I was able to get a gentleman employee's attention and he came over to help me. He had been working in the prepared food section. This is not the first and only time this has occurred. If one of the gentlemen is there you get great customer service. But if one of the 2 ladies is there. Just forget it and go somewhere else. IF you can get their attention they won't cut the meat the way that you asked and they treat you as if you are "bothering" them with your presence. Very sad read more

Picking up a reserved Redbox DVD prompted my first visit to this Harris Teeter. Being 9:50 PM on the day after Thanksgiving the store was very quiet so I took the time to look around. First impression was this is a very attractive store with prices quite a bit higher than the local competition. Price wouldn't necessarily put me off if a nice variety of quality merchandise and exceptional service justify the difference. But that wasn't the case. I selected an item from the bakery department and headed back to the front to pay. I found a long line of closed cash registers, four(?) self-check out stands and four employees standing around talking to each other. Each of the self-check outs had hand written signs attached that read: "Debit or Credit Only, No Cash Back". Not wanting to use a debit card for a $2.99 purchase I decided to interrupt the employees' conversation to ask how I was to make a cash purchase. They told me that if I really had to pay cash they would have to go open a register. I made them do that, which was not well received. Seeing how much it disturbed them to have to take my cash I decided they would not have to worry about that annoyance any more. I won't be back. read more
