This was my first time visiting Harris Teeter. I have driven by many times, but I never shopped here. Recently, I was in the area shopping elsewhere, so I stopped in. It was an impromptu visit, so I did not purchase much. I really wanted to look around and select a few items while doing so. At first glance, the organization, flow and cleanliness of the produce department captured my attention. All of the produce presented nicely and it looked fresh. The prices appeared a little high for some items, but as the adage says, "You get what you pay for". I purchased mostly produce. The navel oranges and pink grapefruit were huge. They were also deliciously sweet and juicy. Before going to the checkout area, I moved along to other areas of the store and found consistency with the level of cleanliness. I ended the visit in the area with health supplements. In my opinion, the selection was relatively extensive for a grocery store. I was able to find what I needed and then walked to the checkout lane. Many of the items purchased were either on sale or discounted with the store's rewards member card. Since this was my first visit, I did not have a card, so the cashier used the complimentary store card. She informed me that I could sign up for a card at the customer service desk. The checkout process was fast. Finally, I walked over to the customer service desk to apply for a store card. The customer service supervisor/manager was nice. While processing the card, she made friendly, small talk, which was pleasant. The reward's card process seemed a little extensive unlike many other stores, but it was fine. I forgot how much I love Harris Teeter. It was my go to store in the Outer Banks region when on vacation and to discover that I am now in the land of HT, I was happy. They always have what I am looking for and then some. I came into this location and wasn't really in need of anything, but decided to pick up a few items I could definitely use. I went around the store, grabbed a few items and before I knew it my hands were full. That was cue to me to make it to the front of the store. Set my items down on the belt and let the cashier ring it all up. The reason I love HT so much is the customer service you get in one of them. I know I was going to be a bit of a pain in the butt during checkout because I had a few things going. I had multiple Visa gift cards with lingering amounts on them. I asked if she would mind if I used them all and got them out of my hair. She didn't mind a bit and we went through all the cards and I was finally free of that mess. When it got down to what I was left to owe I also wanted to get cash back. Before she could give it back to me I asked if she could break it down in a certain way to make it easier on me. She did it without batting an eye. I was lucky to have such a nice cashier get me through the checkout process and I was grateful that she took the time to make sure my needs were met. I come here every week because there are some good deals and better sale prices than Giant Food. For example, this week until 8/2/20, a dozen of large eggs is 77 cents with your VIC store card (limit 4). However, please be careful with the fruit prices charged by cashiers. On my receipt, my cashier had charged me for a watermelon, but I didn't buy one. I had grapes in my cart. I went back inside to customer service and was refunded and charged correctly. Last week, I also noticed on my receipt the 10 yogurts I got were charged 10 cents extra each. This was a computer error with pricing. BUYER BEWARE. I understand it's Covid, raining New Year and their busy yet get your ACT honest. No need to be sorry or give an excuse. JUST BE FAIR. I home delivered items that was not in the drop off. On top of it the salmon fillet was less than 1 pounds. We have to drive there after 1 hour of the drop off to use their produce scale in store. We are right less than a pound. Then charged us 1.52 lbs for $$ ? We did not open the package till it was refunded and brought back home( they have/can't take back fresh seafood). Inside is this....stare at the image/price/weight/label. Tell you butcher area this is Salmon Steak and not fillet. Mistake but honest ? Luckily I did not open the package in front of the Customer Service counter that was no one in sight. I have to flag a cashier and was told they are busy ? Am I not a customer that just paid for your mistakes and need service ?...... One more thing. I was told he can't give me credits 'coz the items are not on hand to be rang ? If Harris Teeter was a person, I'd give it a hug! I love the fresh produce, the hard to find unique items. They sell a large amount of items for ppl with dietary restrictions. Gluten free, vegan, non dairy etc. They are always fully stocked and someone does a great job of "straight facing" the shelves! I used to work retail in high school . They usually have more than one cashier working and the self check out is always operable. This makes getting in and out of the store a plus! All in all, I love Harris Teeter and oh when they have good sales, they really are on items you would want to buy. read more

Yesterday, after a very long few days, my husband was released from the hospital after having a heart attack on Friday. While he was in the hospital my wonderful daughter tackled our refrigerator, tossing everything that was not up to her standards, which didn't leave us with much, other than pickles and grape juice. At around 4 o'clock yesterday I submitted my order for pick up with Harris Teeter in Laurel, and got the message back that I could pick my order up between 730 and 8 o'clock that evening. To my pleasant surprise, I received a text saying our order was fully packed and ready to go an hour and a half before my scheduled pick up time. I wanted to be sure, so I called Harris Teeter and spoke with the manager who assured me that yes in fact my order was ready and I could come for pick up anytime. Unfortunately, I completely missed the managers name when he answered the phone due to my extremely high stress level with having my husband home after such a traumatic event. But I would like to thank him and his staff for doing such a wonderful job not only with my order yesterday, but every day. The store is always beautiful, clean, well stocked and organised. And the staff are always so friendly and ready to help. Thank you, thank you, thank you to the entire staff of Harris Teeter in Laurel. Your kindness, professionalism, and just plain "get 'er done" attitude saved me yesterday. I was exhausted from top to bottom and couldn't figure out what to do for food but you guys save me by having my order ready, not just a little early, but an entire hour and a half early. Please read my first review and add that this store has gotten much worse. The people working there are clueless and RUDE. The cashier was very nice but s l o w as molasses. The check out is a place for fights as well. Ladies in front of me in line awhile got confused which way they needed to maneuver to check out, and had accidentally cut off the next line's patrons. FIGHT! In today's world if someone brings a gun who knows what will happen? Weirdly designed check out system. BAD BAD BAD!! Yes, their check out is very slow, confusing and poorly designed. I have lived in Laurel for the past 4 years. I was excited when I discovered Harris Teeter was in the area and actually pleased with the store for maybe the first year or so. However! I have been frustrated with this location for the past 2 years. They are ALWAYS OUT OF EVERYTHING.....Organic and Conventional Produce, Philips crabmeat ( which they haven't had for at least 3-4 months, right now they're out of bagged RICE and LEMONS (simple items). Today, I popped on for potatoes and a couple more items. There were only 4 bags of Nature's Bounty organic potatoes and 3 of them were growing the little heads on them indicating they were getting old. The fruit is often moldy. They were once out of craisins for months. I've spoken with the Produce Manager in the past about the produce and he was always helpful and apologetic. Now that we're are in this COVID 19 crisis it's even worse. The shelves are empty of the simple items. I would blame it on the crisis and the difficulty in receiving shipments, but that's not the case. I know this because I have been going the the Maple Lawn location instead or (when I don't feel like the drive to MoM's or Wholefoods). Their location is well stocked of most items....I was even able to get rubbing alcohol and peroxide last week. Imagine that. There was even toilet paper if I needed it. The Laurel store has a new General Manager, but that hasn't changed anything. My friends all agree that the Laurel location is always understocked and messy . I've even gone to the trouble of taking pictures to send to the corporate office, but I haven't sent them yet. Im sure the excuse for the empty shelves will be blamed on the time of day I was shopping....but I shop at various times and its always the same.....messy and out of stock. They also don't appear to have a limit on the number of shoppers in the store at one time, even though there is a sign posted regarding it. The store today looked like "business as usual" with the number of customers shopping. The ONLY good thing about the Laurel location is the customer service and the employees. EVERYONE says hello and the cashiers always ask "did you find everything you needed today". Sometimes my response is "No", but that's as far as it goes. Please help us out in Laurel. The grocery store is fairly clean, employees are friendly, and the shelves are well stocked overall. They're ALWAYS out of everything I frequently buy, or only have little supply. Just one example is organic fruits and veggies, and if they're not out then they're moldy. I asked once about a certain kind of almond milk that I always buy after going to the store 7 days in a row. I asked manager if they stopped carrying it and he went to the back to check and they gave me 1 bottle, guess they just forgot to restock it?? I don't know, but it's ridiculous. Its a shame because it's walking distance from my house, but I've decided to start going to Shoppers instead from now on. When I found it the 1st time the stand was by the self checkout near the end of the aisle w/ the teas. Went in there to find it again and had to walk around the entire store to find them. I have a decent time finding the items that I need despite the high prices. However, every time I come in here, I notice that the employees look very sad. Also, the few times I have asked a manager for help, they weren't any help. I'm sure other customers notice this too. When lines are long, the managers are just standing around as the cashiers overwork themselves. It makes me wonder what kind of workplace this is. I came here to check out the "new" grocery store...although we have 4 in a two mile strip. I came once and basically never left. There are such gems here. The produce section, where I spend most of my time, has a great selection with great prices, its always fresh, great veggie/organic frozen section. They have more section in the aisles as well, a great variety for gourmet cooking, healthy cooking ingredients, etc. I also like the beauty/convenience store area. The lines are normally short, and there is always staff to help with the self check-out lines. I really like the HT brand as well. I went to purchase food and seafood for my seafood lasagna. I went to seafood for the shrimp and crabmeat. And, the fellow weighs my shrimps and prints the ticket and then gives me about 7 shrimp extra and tells me that because they were almost gone that I get the rest free. I get the shrimp home and ready to cook. The shrimps are slimy and smells really bad. I'm taking the shrimps back today and it ruined my seafood lasagna because I couldn't put the shrimp in it. I like shopping at Harris Teeter in Laurel because it is a very clean store. The first time I walked in the store I notice how big this location is as well as how bright the lighting is. Love it! The produce and the meats are fresh and the staff is friendly. The produce area is not very big, but adequately stocked with regular and organic items. There is hot food bar as well as a pizza station. The pizza is pretty good. The prices are average compared to any other grocery store, although I do like their sales. They have a lot of by one get one free sales. For Starbucks lovers....there is one as soon as you walk in, so can get for coffee or tea fix while you shop. read more

Five stars to HT!! We have visited the one in Columbia and we had a great experience. We wanted to drive to this particular one to see the Town Centre and all the new restaurants, clothing stores, etc. Starbucks, of course, my first stop to get me a chai latte. Service was outstanding. The baristas were really friendly and polite. The store is huge and very organized, very clean as well. I was able to find a favorite soup that I only find when I visit my daughter in Spokane, WA. I am thrilled!! We like the prices, location, pharmacy, vic card, service and all the parking they have. Decided to drop by here last night at 9:30pm for a quick run for some goodies for me and a lady friend. Guess I should have spot checked the checkout options first. I ended up having to put everything back. None of the self checkouts were open nor did the management think it was important to have cashiers, the line was way too long. Why do we wait in line to spend our money, it shouldn't take more time to checkout than it does to shop. You can always tell a poorly managed retail location when you can get in but you can't get out. read more

UPDATE: 6/2018 Thanks for the new fruit fly colony living in my house, HT! They enjoyed their journey from the onions just purchased in your produce aisle to my kitchen, and are very busy thriving and exploring their new environment. Didn't realize one could also acquire pets at HT. ------------------------------ Uh-oh. I may have spoken too soon. (Never did that before...lol) Last few trips to HT have been disappointing: - No strawberries in the regular produce section, desperately needed them for a recipe so I sprang for the overpriced organic ones. After I'd finished shopping, checked out, and was on my way out the door, what do I see? The produce guy finally re-stocking the regular, much cheaper strawberries. - Speaking of produce, I'm getting a little tired of the sopping wet red leaf lettuce and other greens. What's up with that? - Hit up the butcher counter (no other customers there) and stood patiently while one counterperson industriously continued slicing meat and expertly avoided eye contact (he knew I was there), and the other chatted outside of the counter with a colleague (he also knew I was there). I was the only customer...until another lady strolled up and positioned herself closer to the dude slicing meat. He immediately went to serve her first. Not wanting to be one of "those" people who make a scene about the rudeness of both the counterpeople and the lady who arrived after me, I chose to purchase my meat from another store that day. - Out of Stock Items I'd been buying regularly: pretzel rolls, take-and-bake bread, a specific tetra pack tomato sauce, and yes, that cheese, once again, nowhere to be found. Their cheese counter was decimated the last time I was in there. I am a fan of this location! The store is always clean, the produce options are consistently fresh and they offer a great variety of organic foods. Harris Teeter is a great addition to the Laurel area. I am a bit of a snob when it comes to seafood, so I haven't tried the fresh seafood options yet. But I must admit that the selections look pretty good. I also have to compliment the pharmacy. The service of speedy and the pharmacists are always welcoming and have positive attitudes. I would absolutely recommend this location for grocery shopping in the area. read more

Soon I think they might have to reconsider better hours for 4+ years staff or at minimum let them teach someone else how to do bakery the best way possible. The new machines are very glitchy because they would automatically reset the date input and the amount of product input just as soon as you adjust the next thing for the sticker so it's slowing down the staff. The deli is currently improving on daily soups and the produce is improving the haste for the salad bar. In the near future if you smell rotten dried up fruit it is most likely because they might choose for that to be no longer handled by me. Currently before school starts they've been having a massive sale in the clearance karts and on select on sale candy with a yellow price sticker. I haven't seen any 3 for 9 soda sales since last year 2022. The management always makes a point to treat their staff like the little guy's and they really don't value our capabilities and I'm certain if we could swap district managers that we might convince folks to stay as a staff better because being yelled at during work really does hurt my soul and also henceforth hurts my productivity levels and delays my thinking for awhile to try and recuperate my tasks list in my brain, delays me at least 40 minutes after the encounter. The management boldface lies about the work schedule, and boldface lies about how they have to run around the store to find staff when the truth is very much the opposite where the little guy's have to chase down the management for phone calls, for double checking deli and bakery, for how it's really the little guy's trying to make the workplace better, and the district manager decides to yell at several people because she's jealous. I'm kinda likin' Harris Teeter as a grocery chain. It has a lot of selection and a lot of stuff I can't find in my local Safeway or Giant. The people in the store are always helpful and friendly. The parking is great. Once you get to know the layout of the store it's easy to get around to check the things off your list. Clean, spacious. The whole nine yards. Yes. It's a little more expensive than Safeway and Giant. But it's cheaper than Whole Foods and probably a little cheaper than Wegman's. read more

Harris Teeter in Laurel's customer service has plummeted. This is the worst service I have received in a very long time. I went in the self check-out line (as I always do) and scanned my items. I put my card in to pay. The machine showed that my transaction had been approved, however, it did not print out a receipt. I notified the employee overseeing the self check-out transactions that I had not received a receipt. She asked if I had paid, and I replied, "yes". She then began to scan all of my items over again. She asked me to place my card back into the machine. I notified her, yet again, that I had paid. She told me that it didn't go through the first time so I placed my card in the machine again. It told me the transaction had been approved, and again, did not print out a receipt. The employee replies in an aloof tone, "Oh, it doesn't have any paper". You would think that would be the first thing you checked if someone told you that a receipt did not print out. She told me that I would receive a refund for being charged twice and she went to go grab a manager. By this point, I had been waiting for fifteen minutes. It took her another five minutes to get in touch with the manager. She then told me to go bring my items to the counter by the manager. I never received a "Thank you for your patience" or even a basic apology, nothing. I then bring my items to the counter by the manager. She takes the receipt that they were eventually able to print out once they changed the paper, and goes in a back room. She comes out five minutes later and tells me that I only paid once, and hands me back my receipt. She told me that the transaction before mine had been a $20 purchase and therefore, my card wasn't charged twice. I said that I had been charged twice and I reach for my phone to open my banking app. While I am opening my app, she is literally standing over my shoulder. She could see all of my bank account information. I pull up my recent transactions and showed two pending Harris Teeter transactions. She proceeds to say, "Oh, I didn't see that one." She then goes in the back room again. Eventually, she gives me my refund in cash since it would take a few days for my transaction to be refunded. I tell her thank you as she gives me the money. She says nothing and goes to help another customer. I was floored. I have worked in customer service and, therefore, know how to treat a customer. This was not it. This was our go to store, convenient location, pretty good selection as far as product, a bit costly but doable. However, today will be our last and final day shopping here. I've notice the quality has gone way down since first opening, but this was the icing on the cake! On isle 3, which is the cereal isle what at first thought was a centipede, turned out to be a roach! Wondering the isle in broad day light. When I brought it to the managers attention he was very nonchalant, which leads me to believe this is more than likely an occurring nuisance. I'm sure plenty of places I shop and dine at has roaches and only God knows what else. My motto is, out of sight, out of mind and since this was clear in sight, I will not ship there ever again! read more

This morning was my first time at this HT location. I like their layout. The staff was friendly and helpful. I went early in the morning so the things I wasn't able to get may just not have been restocked yet. Nothing of importance was missing, though. The essentials were well stocked with good dates on them. The prices, as always, are good and the selections are much better than the ShopRite near us. There is plenty of parking and the store is kept clean. I'll be back! read more

I love this Harris Teeter!! I always save a nice amount of money here and with all the sales and deals they basically give you groceries! During their opening week I received 10% off my total bill and who can turn down sales like buy 2 jars of spaghetti sauce and get 3 free! I just signed up for e-Vic so I'm anxious to see the savings there as well. I filled and picked up a prescription here today and the pharmacist informed me that one of my medications were free! Not only that but I also got $20 added to my VIC card to use the next time I buy groceries. It doesn't stop there because I'm also transferring a prescription from another pharmacy here (they do the transferring) and will get another $20 added to my VIC card! #winning! How can you not save money here?! The store is nicely stocked, clean, and with a really nice produce selection to include organic foods. The staff is also very friendly, patient and eager to help. I haven't checked out the hot bar or pizza yet but I'm sure I will very soon. Kudos to a great grand opening and I hope all the goodness and savings continues!! ....now if it only sold wine..... read more
