Pies are very good and full of chicken. They are not cheap, however, and you cannot buy them on the south coast.

Fresh Chicken pies are great... we buy 2-3 and freeze 2 fresh ones... I add a can carrots, corn, green beans maybe... They need more variety??? Maybe a rotisserie or Cajun flavored chicken pie? Turkey pies, how about meat pies... beef or lamb like Australian pies... even a pork pie? It's worth noting that you should call ahead for them to warm up the pie for you so that it's piping hot upon pickup. I tried their chicken pot pie for the first time today (Pi day) and am not a fan. There was an overwhelming amount of potatoes and carrots and very little chicken. Of the chicken pieces, they were quite dry. I've never been a big fan of chicken pot pie but considering this, it wasn't too bad...it was fine. A thick crusted heavy filling chicken pie.... Kinda reminds me of chicken cream Campbell soup with chunks of roasted chicken. Harrows has been around for a long time and their chicken pot pies are famous. But I wouldn't consider this anything spectacular or state-of-the-art pies. It's basically what your grandmother or great-grandmother would have made for you back in the 1930s to 1960s. But I will say that it is definitely a meal because the filling is very heavy and the crust is quite thick for one slice. It took me 2 hours in 375 degrees to get this pot pie cooked from a Frozen state. After 2 hours, I was too hungry waiting for the pie to cool down so it was a bit runny but typically you should wait for the pie to cool down so it can coagulate. read more

Exceeded all expectations! A few years back I tried Harrow's chicken pie at a phantom gourmet food festival and found it to be nothing more than average but tonight after giving it another try, all I can say is wow. The pie was still warm when I brought it home and was filled with delicious large pieces of white meat chicken and some vegetables (carrots and potatoes). Typically I like pastry all around the filling and not just on top but the top at Harrow's was the perfect thickness to create a great pastry to filling ratio. Rolls tasted very fresh as well. I'll also add that the pies can be requested dairy free which just means they don't brush milk over the top. Rolls were also dairy free. This is a huge win when you or your child have a milk allergy or are avoiding dairy. Great job Harrow's! Will be back. read more

Carb Heaven.... I know I should have just stuck with a chicken pie, but I decided to try something different for dinner that I could just microwave and tried the mac & cheese. It was OK. Just OK. Decided to visit Harrows in Dedham today after seeing their commercials for a while... it is THE most excellent chicken pie I have ever had and can't figure out why we waited so long. Also tried the soup and chicken salad which are also great along with a few sides. Don't want to leave out the fresh cornbread- a bonus indeed. The chicken pie guys! The chicken pot pies are SO good! From the crust to the gravy to the fall apart chicken and tender veggies. Their rolls are definitely average, you can get them at the supermarket for less money. I hate that they close so early because by the time I get there after work, there usually aren't hot pies. I don't want to have to wait for the oven to heat up and then wait for it to cook. As stated in other reviews, they do use a thick gravy but it's tasty! I usually throw crush red pepper or black pepper on my portion because it can be bland. However, chicken pot pie tends to be bland in general. I haven't tried any of their sides. The people that work there are pleasant and it's a convenient location, I just hate having to cook it myself. read more

Tasty Pie, Rude service. I stopped in Dedham location at 4pm on a Saturday- no one in there. No hot pies but they offer to cook one if you give them the 60 minutes it takes to cook it. Young woman behind counter could not have been more rude. She should never be allowed to talk to a Customer. Cashier was a little timid, but kindly offered to bag up my meal. Got the Pie with veggies (a generous term, as it meant carrots and a few pieces of potatoes). I grew up on Willow Tree, but Harrows crust and gravy are legit. I found their rolls disappointing and over priced. I got the cornbread this time, which was very good. Pie is a little bland but little salt and pepper flakes helps. $21 for 4 serving pie seemed high and couldn't find any online coupons. read more

Interesting pie shop. Like some of the other reviews, I have heard about Harrow's on the Phantom Gourmet and have driven by their Saugus location in the past. I have been dying to try them as they opened in Dedham a few years ago, and just recently made the effort to call ahead and make an order. If you haven't ever been to Harrow's, you should know, pot pies take about an hour to cook, so you must call ahead to order (about an hour in advance), and then show up at the given time. You can order different sized pies (depending upon how many people you are order for), I believe it is 1, 2-3, 4-6, and something else. They also have mashed potato (another delicious option from Harrow's), and rolls (that are also amazing). The staff are friendly, and the interior is clean, concise, and perfect for a shop as such. For my first visit I ordered a regular chicken pot pie. I would say it was worth 4.5 stars. It could have been cooked a bit better, and could have been more flavorful, as it was sort of bland, but the next time I'll order the one with vegetables. Other than that, it was tasty and filling. I definitely think these are the best pot pies in the area (the only other place I can think of that even sells these pies similarly is Boston Market). Harrow's in Dedham is located on Providence Highway Northbound, in a small plaza with The Vitamin Shoppe, Dunkin Donuts, and a few other shops. It's accessible from the Northbound side via the plaza entrance (there is a little "drive thru" sign at the main entrance for Dunkin D's). From the Southbound side of Providence Highway, the best bet is to turn left at the Best Buy & Friday's restaurant. Following, turn right into the Friday's lot and go to the very far back to a hidden road over Wigwam Pond. It leads to the back of Harrow's. Other than that, ample parking lot, and convenient access back to the highway. I would definitely come back in the future for more pot pies! 5 stars. read more

I had no idea this location existed. I'm fairly close to both the Reading and Saugus locations and go maybe every few months to grab a pie. This location was right near Legacy Place in Dedham. The parking was a bit odd but we found a spot. The prices seemed lower to me. I got the apartment sized pie with vegetables. I made it tonight and no complaints. I'll likely stop in again if I'm in the area and craving a chicken pot pie. read more

Oh how I have loved these in the past. Jan 27, 2019 stopped in and got a jumbo fresh one with veggies. Veggies were tiny pieces of carrots nothing else. The sauce or gravy was absolutely horrible, was like a rue. Chicken pieces were good. We both did not feel good a few hours later. Will never go here again. read more

These are the best chicken pies around and a trustworthy dinner option. A store opened in my town and I hope they stay open. We used to go to the one in Reading maybe once a year but now that it's local it's every one or two weeks. They are not highly seasoned, choose your own. I like cranberry sauce with them. read more

My review is of the chicken pot pie only. One of my pickiest foodie friends recommended this place a few years ago when I was looking for a meal for my best friend whose mother was dying. They loved the food from here! I got a chicken pot pie from here for my family as well. The pie was soo good - white meat chicken only - and carrots and potatoes. They also have meat only versions for those who don't want the veggies. I have only been here a few times as it is out of the way for me - I go to the Dedham store but live in Marshfield - but really good chicken pot pies wvery time I have gone. I got the dinner rolls and they were ok - not bad but not anything different than what you'd get at the supermarket. Next time I am in, I will try the chicken soup and chicken salad. read more

I have seen Harrow's advertised on Phantom Gourmet 60 million times. I have been wanting to venture out to Medford or Saugus to get one, but live on the Dedham line. All of a sudden I saw that Harrow's opened a store on Rte 1. I was like let's go! I bought the round pie. I think they said it was the family size. It was $16 and change. It was worth every penny. Some pot pies have this really thick gravy and you are left feeling like you ate a bowling ball. This pie is nice and light. The bulkiness is in the crust which is unbelievably fresh, and the gravy is slightly thickened and the veggies all cut the same size. The chicken is fresh and in nice big pieces. I usually buy Mrs. Budd's at the grocery store but that is crap compared to this pie. If I buy the same size as Mrs Budd's the rectangular one, I think it's like $12 for Harrow's. Mrs Budd's is only $5 or $6. But.... you get what you pay for. This tastes like homemade. It is by far superior to anything you'd get in the supermarket. If you like Chicken pot pie, I highly recommend Harrow's. I'm glad they came into my neighborhood! read more

I stopped by Harrows the other day and ordered the largest chicken pie, with no vegetables. The crust was good but I didn't like the smell of the pie, it didn't taste very good at all. I served some for my friends it was the same vote for everyone, no one liked the pie because of the smell I thought the pies were made there fresh everyday, nope the are all frozen! So the meaning of fresh chicken pies does not apply. If you want one hot they need 1 1/2 hours to prepare. My mom made better chicken pies fresh here at home, there is a big difference Sorry, I can't recommend Harrows pies, nor can my friends. Our pie was loaded (and I mean loaded) with white chicken meat, enough veggies and a delicious gravy. No strange smell. A yummy treat. Pies are delicious. If you want a cooked pie you must call at least an hour ahead . I come here only once a year or so, only because it is outside my regular stomping ground. There is actually another reason , and that is I find the pies somewhat addictive. They are not exactly calorie free and I find that I will usually eat way more of this item than anticipated if it is in my fridge. The 4 stars are for the pies. It is a take out establishment. I must say that (I will be picking one up in an hour but I have not been there in a while and maybe things have changed) I concur with a few other reviews that the owners of this establishment are missing out on some outrageous business opportunities. There really should be an endless supply of precooked pies, and a meal package , including a drink that you could pick up at a drive though. Waste really could be at a minimum with this set up, as suggested by a previous reviewer make the pies, those that don't sell in an hour could be frozen. In addition I will bet with a little time spent on research they could take a frozen pie of a yet to be determined shape and size and develop a technique to flash cook it , or quickly heat up a previously cooked and frozen pie and still maintain a crispy crust. All that being said they must be paying the bills every month so there may not be much incentive to innovate at this time. read more

Just had the worst experience there today!! I decided to give them one last try, after last few pies I've bought had very little chicken. I wanted a frozen one since I wasn't going straight home. I took two steps outside and realized it didn't feel cold enough to be frozen. I walked right back in and asked if it was frozen. They said no but that they would not exchange it for a frozen one because I left the building. REALLY!! I took two steps outside!! Worst customer service EVER! I don't know if this one will taste better then the last few, but I can NOT see myself going back there EVER after being treated like that. read more

The Dedham store has just opened and recalling the raves of a friend who lived in Reading, I had to stop by. In short, the chicken pie was excellent. It comes in with chicken only and chicken with vegetables (we ordered the chicken and veggies) both being available in four different sizes ranging from individual to jumbo sized. The service was excellent with the young Lady welcoming us to Harrows, offering us a menu and explaining that the pies area available either frozen of refrigerated. Despite Harrows being heavily associated with the Phantom Gourmet (a negative in my book), this is one of the few times where I've genuinely been excited by take-out food. read more
